    Beautiful Documentary, Laura! Living in California, both of my parents worked in the industry. I've seen just about everything. I remember women getting the works in the 60s when I was a child. I've been through extensive facial reconstructive surgery due to cancer.
    As wonderful as these options are, I feel our society has gone overboard. There is too much focus on eternal youth and beauty. Most people who are disfigured medically are never helped. Many people are maimed through medical procedures. This is due to radiation which destroys the bone and skin. What isn't discussed is the lack of access to reconstructive surgery. Insurance doesn't cover it in the cases of oral and skin cancer. As a result, those patients have the highest rate of suicide. Love all of your vids! You are a blessing! Thank you!

      Unfortunately insurance companies deny as much coverage as they can. They can be very cruel because they put their profits first. Any reconstructive surgery needed because of illness or injury should be covered.

    Marlene Dietrich's makeup artist would take fine plaits of her hair, pull them back hard and embed them in her scalp with a surgical needle after disinfecting the area, to give her a temporary 'facelift.' Can you imagine how painful it was. Then the wig would go over it. She would also have a very fine layer of silk glued to her skin first before makeup was applied. This was during her Vegas period. She went to great lengths for her public appearance when she was in her middle age and renowned for her 'fountain of youth.' None of it was real; there was literally nothing natural about it and would have taken hours to get ready for a performance. Someone I knew over 30 years ago had known the makeup artist and they had relayed all the things they did to achieve the Marlene effect for stage.

    After watching that Hedy Lamarr documentary 'Bombshell', I had to side eye her on this. I think she actually was addicted to plastic surgery. The filmmakers insinuated Hedy was giving her doctor specific orders on how to modify or push the boundaries on her face. It seemed she was so unfulfilled in so many ways, with the patent, with trying to bypass the big studios and distribute films independently, with losing money when financing those films, and with just aging and Hollywood casting her aside and blatantly disowning her son. I suspect Hedy may have gone so far as to construct/design her own face to be that perfect, early on and this is really mental. It's sad she didn't stop because - really, plastic surgery is not an exact science. It's still high risk, more for some than others.

    @Laura Jane Atelier another amazing presentation. However I knew of a dear friend off my who had her lips done. And oh my goodness the damage was utterly awful. It took her years to recover from her cosmetic nightmare.
    So I would advise anyone who is thinking about cosmetic surgery please do your research first. Before making a decision that could change your life for the worse

    Rita Hayworth actually did not want to go through with that procedure. it was, what was decided for her, after her contract with a film studio. they did pay the procedure and she probably would have would have breached a contract or whatefever. not sure, if that was a good idea or not, it was already decided for her quickly. I guess, it is not so easy, to stay firm and say no, when you yourself don't know, if your possibilty to wark at all in that field depends on it or not.

    Marlene Dietrich didn’t have any plastic surgery done she was terrified of even the idea. Her own daughter had to basically force her there when she desperately needed medical attention. But she did use wigs and tape and she had teeth removed.

    Dear Laura Jane Atelier, thank you for this interesting video and have a great new year 2023. The history of famous beauties is really
    thrilling and about Marlene Dietrich told my dear grandfather , who saw her often in person on stages in theatres in the Berlin of the
    Golden Twenties, where she was-- before Hollywood a well-known actrice, that she had a magical radiance, real Cheekbones and the
    most beautiful legs in the world!!!💄👛✨👠

    @kevinjewell233 Рік тому +9

    Much of the story about Marlene Dietrich having so much work done was terribly untrue, what she did do was diet, upon wrapping the filming of 'Ange Blau' she went on a strict diet and lost 30lbs (13,5 kilos) before she arrived in Hollywood...which would have been a couple of months between filming and editing the release in Berlin and then her immediate departure the same night as the opening night after the filming, a week in her stateroom and and on the train from NYC to LA...and she arrived looking like the fabulous creature we see in the photo's taken in NYC as she debarked with all her luggage.

    Perhaps a small amount of elective plastic surgery enhances someone’s features... but what is being done today is so much more extreme (especially in Hollywood, modeling, music, and “influencers) and mostly just looks grotesque. It’s all too much and we see it all, very obviously.
