The organ covers the complete spectrum of emotional expression just like an orchestra does. Its only limitation is not being able to produce percussive sounds without using chromatic percussion as a separate register, which most (but not all) concert organs and all church organs lack. There were Glockenspiels incorporated in some concert organs and harmoniums with a Glockenspiel register built in were also produced and composed for.
Even by the normal standards of Rheinberger Sonatas Sonata No.4 is turgid and tedious. It seems an odd choice - why not No.11 with its lovely Cantilene or No.17 an unusually vigorous and tuneful work (for Rheinberger) which almost sounds as if it was composed by Elgar? While I'm posting, the track beginning at 49:35 is only the final movement of Sonata No.8, not the full work.
@@kmrerk You, sir, are an idiot. How am I going to know that a piece is turgid and tedious (or glorious and uplifting) unless I listen to it in the first place?

Organ music sounds as a mystery, nostalgic or sad; but the true feeling is a different and supreme kind of joy. Thanks for sharing!
lindo 😍

This is music of sublime beauty played on the King of Instruments.

I'm new to classical music, and thought I'd give it a try. So far I'm really enjoying it, Rheinberger in particular.
Listening to Sublime music in organ is wonderful. Thanks for uploading. Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil.
He is one of my favorite Romantic era organ composers. I learned his 10 Trios.
Great performance! Many thanks for sharing!

Turgid & tedious ? Then why listen ? You sir, are a pompous snob.
