This is what critical thinking is, which I was pushing it aside for years. I also had doubts about miracles and why god just watch people debate for years about him. And those apologist pretending like they know god’s mind, bragging they speak for him, in reality they know it’s just their own voice hoping for people to give money. Glad my intuition helped me to realize it, and so thankful of the facts from logical speakers.

Generally most new atheists will say: My parents were at fault, or the community I was in how could I have known better? etc Someone elses fault, not theirs. It would be the same as saying: Hitler was NOT at fault. It was merely his parents/environment/upbringing/experiences/etc. Which begs the question. WHEN is an adult (I'm not including gullible young children) when is an adult at fault? When should an individual adult take ownership of poor reasoning, 'mistakes' , or being dead wrong! In civilized society we say: A person can believe in a 6 foot tall rabbit if they like, or ANY belief. But its not until those beliefs cause adverse actions upon themselves or others, that we find them mistaken (or even criminal). Thus its the actions of theists. Actions of taking time to pray, gather at church, speak of their God, or act out on others (or themselves) in critical or adverse ways. The answer must be that whilst atheists were once Christain, then any actions from that absurd belief were MISTAKES.

Rather, the Judge says: Irrespective of any belief you have, you neglected to take care of your children (causing death usually). They are then tried and sentenced for cold blooded murder. This is our civilized society. We take responsibility of our actions irrespective of so called victim of God! However if their plea was: My husband was beating me, and as such I was a victim who subsequently allowed neglect of my children. Then a Judge would in fact consider a victim case. There is a plethora of logical problems with all god-based religions. My biggest complaint is labelling the Christian god as "merciful, all-loving", etc. Isn't this the god who wiped out all of humanity in a flood? Really, did _everyone_ deserve drowning? What does that mentality symbolize to the world? Is this the all-powerful god who allows such things as birth defects and horrible diseases? And that is a "loving god"?
This is also the same god who killed the first born of Egypt for crimes their parents committed. Innocent children just punished for non crimes. I don’t believe it actually happened, but if it did happen how can one call that god “loving”?

Yeah, it’s true that we’ve heard it all a hundred times from theist callers, and I agree that this is a pleasant, uninterrupted format, but every once in a while, I get my ya ya’s by listening to Matt rip a theist’s argument up!! There’s just something so cathartic about hearing a theist struggle, and squirm, and desperately try to save themselves, as Matt holds their feet to the fire, with simple questions that they are so afraid to answer, for fear of being shown to be WRONG! This helps me to release even further, the indoctrination that was placed so deeply in me as a child, I can feel it diminish just that much more, with every call.
There’s (hopefully) always new atheists that haven’t heard it all before. They might find the call in show entertaining. I think that’s why Matt keeps doing it: for the newly deconstructed, the doubters, the Christians who never thought about their faith seriously etc.
Would regrowing a limb be a miracle? It's actually hard to say. The problem is that these categories, "miracle" and "non-miracle" are entirely based on our expectations of reality. We never see people regrowing lost limbs, so we think it is impossible, and therefore it'd be a miracle if it happened. But what if it was the result of a beneficial genetic mutation? Like one day we discover that there's a small percentage of the human population that can regrow lost limbs, we sequence their DNA and discover that there's a genetic mutation that makes it possible... That still doesn't actually tell us whether that mutation was a "miracle" or not. Did a god provide us with a beneficial mutation? Or did it develop by random mutation? Now suppose we fast forward a couple thousand years - just about everybody has the mutation. (Actually I doubt the mutation would be beneficial enough that it'd naturally spread to the whole species in just a few thousand years, but whatever) Most people don't even remember it was a mutation. If you asked them if regrowing a limb was a "miracle" they'd say "of course not, it's just a thing the human body can do" We categorize things as "miracles" when they seem impossible. But if a thing happens with any kind of regularity, we no longer see it as "impossible". So what we perceive as "miraculous" isn't necessarily tied to what is or isn't the result of direct intervention by a god.

That Satan knows all about God and still chooses to rebel is a fascinating concept. So, what was the reason “god” refused to allow my father to grow back his bilaterally amputated legs that had to be taken off, below the knees, due to diabetes and neuropathy? My stepdad was told that he would go blind without surgery to remove a chunk of the lens from the inside of his eyeball after surgery went wrong. He went for his last check-up, and the chunk had disappeared! There's still his macular degeneration to deal with, and the cataract on the OTHER eye, but at least the Flying Spaghetti monster chose to heal the one thing that was most likely to resolve all by itself without surgery...! I really should send that Tim Minchin song to him, but I don't think my parents would appreciate it...

Moreover, many (most?) Christians (at least) will tell you that God "hides" Himself so that humans will have free-will to choose between good and evil, but this collapses in on itself the moment He grants one person a vision of heaven, or an NDE, or speaks to some lone prophet - because He wants and expects that person to share what they've seen, thus nullifying the whole hiding of Himself so we'll have free-will.
The arguments for Free Will fall apart with not much scrutiny. "You could have chosen differently." Could I? Show me how I can choose two different things at the same time. Or go back in time and change my bad decision. Never happens! You chose what you chose because it (at the time of choosing) is the ONLY thing that makes sense to do at that time. That is not a matter of choice. It's a matter of taking "one step after another". It's how life and living works. "Choice" is only in our imagination. We think about what we should do (in our imagination) and then do the thing we think is best - only ONE thing! "God" can't work without "Free Will". Religions need us to have the "choice" to be evil, or else religious leaders are out of work! Determinism requires God to be the one who is responsible for us being evil. And that makes God evil, or at least happy to allow evil to exist. If that's the case, then why even have a God? The world is the same with or without "him".

Some time ago my uncle was diagnosed with some type of cancer and was given 6 months to live he in fact had a long and healthy life and even the doctors were amazed that the cancer was completely gone, the kicker is that my uncle and his whole family were atheists their whole life.

Then He does destroy cities, send flood etc. New Testament we get copies of the Moses stories with part the sea to walking on water mana from Heaven becomes the feeding of the 5,000 etc. What since we had real science hs Yahweh done? what big action ? That is the meat of the argument here but you have no answers for us apart from "read the book"? So have you read the Quran did it convince you? Funny how the Bible tells you that all you have to do is seek God for Him to reveal Himself to you. And if you bothered reading the Bible then you would get your explanations. I don't usually comment on these videos as I've never been a believer and most every argument for god I've ever heard falls flat. These discussions usually only matter to me insofar as religious belief does tangible harm to a lot of people the world over, but the topic of god healing people really hits home. My aunt was a remarkably devout Roman Catholic, devoted herself to helping her local parish and believed deeply in capital g god. When she got cancer she prayed. So did her family, myself included even though I don't believe, because I don't *know* if there's a god but I sure as shit hoped. And she still died. I didn't believe beforehand, and I fucking well don't now. If god does exist he's fucking worthless.

Honestly, most of the godly miracles are pretty weak sauce. Even the scaled up ones like 'The Flood' are unconvincing. Agreed. I feel like we don't talk about this enough. If god has the power to take someone in their sleep (stop their heart), than why not go that route? It would be most humane, quick, with no apparent suffering, no drowning, no watching your family get murdered or drown, or be hacked away by swords, etc. I am also talking about the atrocities committed by god in Exodus and Joshua, among others that dashed babies against rocks, raping women and bloodshed. So, why all the gory theatrics when "better/more moral(?)" ways would have sufficed that still could have been prophesized?

I have ulcerative colitis and when i was first diagnosed my Mom and other relatives said they would pray for me. I went into remission and they gave the credit to god. Not my doctor or the medications i was on it had to be god according to them. Well apparently it didn’t take because i still flare ups every now and then.
I too have ulcerative colitis no one prayed for me… and it went into remission after months of taking medication that the doctor prescribed and scientists developed. I’d be dead or suffering now if I just hoped for prayer to heal me. Oh, and colitis in remission is mild IBS, which accounts for the occasional flare up.

To the argument that God wants us to have faith I ask how much faith do you have? Because Jesus says: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." So if you have even the smallest amount of faith the miracles the christian argument is explaining away should be totally possible.
@@MrTheclevercat it's early so I might be misunderstanding your post here. It seems as though you're reading my post as an argument in the affirmative support of the Christian god... it's not. I'm arguing that at the very least it's a contradiction for the Christian to say that the reason for divine hiddenness is because the Christian God wants us to have faith, since Jesus himself said that if christians have even the smallest amount of "faith" then "God" would not be hidden due to the miracles they could perform. You get into tricky waters because faith is difficult to define, but these are allegedly the words of Jesus so they should probably be taken more seriously than the words of Paul. Also, if I remember correctly, the "truly" preamble was meant to ensure that the following portion was supposed to be taken literally. Essentially, the "God is hidden because he wants us to have faith" argument is a terrible one.

I was just talking with a friend about why god chooses to show himself in ridiculous ways to some people in the bible and that why he doesnt do it anymore. One question I always had is why is one god more likely to exist than another god my guess it is because people were raised to believe that their god is the only one and for some reason other gods don’t exist. I’m of the side that there is probably no gods at all.

A person (such as yourself) may mistakenly WAIT until 9/27 to prove them wrong of course ;) But within the waiting for YEARS, you keep thinking of the supposed cure date (or end of world date) and years later you actually believe in a God! I mean it stands to reason, if you keep waiting for years and years, I'm telling you that psychologically it will impact you. And belief in a claimed God (reevant to the authentic waiting) may well be the result! So what to do to avoid such a thing? Especially if you begin believing in a God and 2027 comes and goes but no fixing of your issue! (seems it must be a few more years ahead and didn't realize that originally). How you avoid this is by saying: We don't believe and then wait for the evidence! We don't wait for lepricaun or fairy or even evil wicked witches evidence to eventutuate. We believe AFTER the evidence is shown. Therefore there's no need to wait at all for something you presently don't believe in. I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and I was _actually_ told (alongside the excuses you mention) that we don't need bible-like miracles today _because_ we have the miracle stories in the Bible(!), and need to have confidence and faith in them. So there.
I was raised in a Protestant house church. Though I never saw an amputee's arm grow back, I have seen and heard of enough "miracles" to convince me of the truth of the gospel. The "miracles" are the primary reason that I'm convinced it's true.

Turns out she asked me to go to church with her a few Sundays later. She and the new couple picked me up on my doorstep and the four of us headed to church. When she arrived at the church she pulled out some crutches from the trunk and used them to enter the church although she didn’t seem to use them or need them when she came to my door a half hour earlier. She was also featured in the church music group as a singer so she was onstage with those crutches during the service. When it was time, the pastor called for the people to come forward to have demons cast out in the name of Jesus and whatever else they start shouting about They anointed my date with oil, prayed like the dickens and concluded the frenzy with the throwing of the crutches across the stage and the declaration of a Miracle received! That devil continued to deceive me until a few years later we finally broke up. There were many more miracles spoke about during the time we dated and many times god’s answer to prayer was no. But now I know that just because the car doesn’t die when the gas gauge shows empty, or that when you pray for a parking spot in a busy lot and you find one, it doesn’t necessarily constitute a miracle.

However, I'm not sure how much it relates to what I've seen in my own life... These are the type of stories that keep me convinced that the God of the Bible is real: A Christian woman, lets call her Rachel, was watching a game of the soccer world cup game 20-30 years ago on TV. Marco Etcheverry, the famous Bolivian soccer play nicknamed "El Diablo", was playing in the game. Out of apparently nowhere, Rachel suddenly had the urge to pray that she would see him in person. Sure enough, a while later (I don't know how long), when she was in an airport, she saw a crowd of people gathered around an area. After asking about it, Rachel was told that the Bolivian national team was about to arrive to the airport. Excited that God was answering her prayer, Rachel sat in anticipation with the rest of the crowd, waiting for the team to arrive. But, due to some sleeping disorder, she fell asleep, and when she woke up, the team had already arrived and passed through the crowd. She missed the chance God gave her to see him. Very disappointed, Rachel boarded her own flight. But when she went to her seat on the plane, she found Marco Etcheverry sitting right next to her. In the conversation they had, Rachel encouraged Marco (who was apparently a Christian) to be a testimony to the rest of his team. THIS WOMAN is my mother. She is the opposite of an attention seeker. She doesn't even like to watch soccer. I've never once known her to intentionally lie (except for in a few rare jokes she took part in). The faith she has in the Bible and Christianity is evidently very REAL. As a whole, I can see no reason why she would fabricate a story like this. Now, one story like this is a coincidence, but when this happens with multiple people multiple times who are in the same group, there is a reason for the pattern. I could tell stories from my mother, my father, my brother, and MANY more from the small churches I've gone to (each one had maybe 20-50 people in it). Stories I've heard from people I know involve prayers like this as well as prophesies, miraculous healings, and even demons. If you want to find evidence of miracles, I would recommend finding a small, Bible based, Protestant church. The bigger the church is, the more likely it is to be corrupt.

I was expecting a comment about god turning from all-powerful to maximally powerful. As far as I'm aware, not a single god has been shown to have any powers. Can god lift a pencil? All-powerful god coukd, but maximally powerful could only, if the maximum god-powers were higher than those required for lifting a pencil.
Actually, Christain Apologetics answer that. They say a God won't interfere with logic, reason or laws (descriptions) of physics. A God will not illogically, unreasonably send a 'good' Christain to the naughty place. Thus he must follow logic and reason (and titbit: That means he can be reasoned with). Nor will God normally (other than claimed miracles 2000 years ago) all of a sudden do some anti physics tricks, say like a square planet, or a pencil floating up outside the laws of physics. HOWEVER, he supposedly did change the laws of physics when Jesus's body flew away, and water into wine etc etc Noah's Ark 10,000 seperate miracles required to allow this one thing to happen. THIS is the very reason why Christains say: God made the Earthquake, or tsaumi or cyclone etc etc etc natural disasters. As God WILL do things that are within the realms of it happening naturally in the first place! But NOT a pencil lifting up on its own. Now you know ;) And heads up, ALL questions have been answered by Christains, the answer is always: God dun it.
If God took the tedious time and effort to lift a pencil for someone, this leaves no obligation for said person to respond with logic and reasonable. Anyone could witness such an event and simply scoff and deny its power which would bring shame on God.

This is what critical thinking is, which I was pushing it aside for years. I also had doubts about miracles and why god just watch people debate for years about him. And those apologist pretending like they know god’s mind, bragging they speak for him, in reality they know it’s just their own voice hoping for people to give money. Glad my intuition helped me to realize it, and so thankful of the facts from logical speakers.

It is true that recovered theists (from religion to atheism) tend NOT to say they were mistaken! Truly shocking.
Generally most new atheists will say: My parents were at fault, or the community I was in how could I have known better? etc Someone elses fault, not theirs.
It would be the same as saying: Hitler was NOT at fault. It was merely his parents/environment/upbringing/experiences/etc.
Which begs the question. WHEN is an adult (I'm not including gullible young children) when is an adult at fault? When should an individual adult take ownership of poor reasoning, 'mistakes' , or being dead wrong!
In civilized society we say: A person can believe in a 6 foot tall rabbit if they like, or ANY belief. But its not until those beliefs cause adverse actions upon themselves or others, that we find them mistaken (or even criminal). Thus its the actions of theists. Actions of taking time to pray, gather at church, speak of their God, or act out on others (or themselves) in critical or adverse ways.
The answer must be that whilst atheists were once Christain, then any actions from that absurd belief were MISTAKES.

There is a plethora of logical problems with all god-based religions. My biggest complaint is labelling the Christian god as "merciful, all-loving", etc. Isn't this the god who wiped out all of humanity in a flood? Really, did _everyone_ deserve drowning? What does that mentality symbolize to the world? Is this the all-powerful god who allows such things as birth defects and horrible diseases? And that is a "loving god"?

Yeah, it’s true that we’ve heard it all a hundred times from theist callers, and I agree that this is a pleasant, uninterrupted format, but every once in a while, I get my ya ya’s by listening to Matt rip a theist’s argument up!! There’s just something so cathartic about hearing a theist struggle, and squirm, and desperately try to save themselves, as Matt holds their feet to the fire, with simple questions that they are so afraid to answer, for fear of being shown to be WRONG! This helps me to release even further, the indoctrination that was placed so deeply in me as a child, I can feel it diminish just that much more, with every call.
There’s (hopefully) always new atheists that haven’t heard it all before. They might find the call in show entertaining. I think that’s why Matt keeps doing it: for the newly deconstructed, the doubters, the Christians who never thought about their faith seriously etc.

Would regrowing a limb be a miracle? It's actually hard to say. The problem is that these categories, "miracle" and "non-miracle" are entirely based on our expectations of reality. We never see people regrowing lost limbs, so we think it is impossible, and therefore it'd be a miracle if it happened. But what if it was the result of a beneficial genetic mutation? Like one day we discover that there's a small percentage of the human population that can regrow lost limbs, we sequence their DNA and discover that there's a genetic mutation that makes it possible... That still doesn't actually tell us whether that mutation was a "miracle" or not. Did a god provide us with a beneficial mutation? Or did it develop by random mutation?
Now suppose we fast forward a couple thousand years - just about everybody has the mutation. (Actually I doubt the mutation would be beneficial enough that it'd naturally spread to the whole species in just a few thousand years, but whatever) Most people don't even remember it was a mutation. If you asked them if regrowing a limb was a "miracle" they'd say "of course not, it's just a thing the human body can do"
We categorize things as "miracles" when they seem impossible. But if a thing happens with any kind of regularity, we no longer see it as "impossible". So what we perceive as "miraculous" isn't necessarily tied to what is or isn't the result of direct intervention by a god.

My stepdad was told that he would go blind without surgery to remove a chunk of the lens from the inside of his eyeball after surgery went wrong. He went for his last check-up, and the chunk had disappeared! Christians (at least) will tell you that God "hides" Himself so that humans will have free-will to choose between good and evil, but this collapses in on itself the moment He grants one person a vision of heaven, or an NDE, or speaks to some lone prophet - because He wants and expects that person to share what they've seen, thus nullifying the whole hiding of Himself so we'll have free-will.
The arguments for Free Will fall apart with not much scrutiny. "You could have chosen differently." Could I? Show me how I can choose two different things at the same time. Or go back in time and change my bad decision. Never happens! You chose what you chose because it (at the time of choosing) is the ONLY thing that makes sense to do at that time. That is not a matter of choice. It's a matter of taking "one step after another". It's how life and living works. "Choice" is only in our imagination. We think about what we should do (in our imagination) and then do the thing we think is best - only ONE thing!
"God" can't work without "Free Will". Religions need us to have the "choice" to be evil, or else religious leaders are out of work! Determinism requires God to be the one who is responsible for us being evil. And that makes God evil, or at least happy to allow evil to exist. If that's the case, then why even have a God? Some time ago my uncle was diagnosed with some type of cancer and was given 6 months to live he in fact had a long and healthy life and even the doctors were amazed that the cancer was completely gone, the kicker is that my uncle and his whole family were atheists their whole life.

I don't usually comment on these videos as I've never been a believer and most every argument for god I've ever heard falls flat. These discussions usually only matter to me insofar as religious belief does tangible harm to a lot of people the world over, but the topic of god healing people really hits home. My aunt was a remarkably devout Roman Catholic, devoted herself to helping her local parish and believed deeply in capital g god. When she got cancer she prayed. So did her family, myself included even though I don't believe, because I don't *know* if there's a god but I sure as shit hoped. And she still died. I didn't believe beforehand, and I fucking well don't now. If god does exist he's fucking worthless.

I have ulcerative colitis and when i was first diagnosed my Mom and other relatives said they would pray for me. I went into remission and they gave the credit to god. Not my doctor or the medications i was on it had to be god according to them. Well apparently it didn’t take because i still flare ups every now and then.

I too have ulcerative colitis no one prayed for me… and it went into remission after months of taking medication that the doctor prescribed and scientists developed. I’d be dead or suffering now if I just hoped for prayer to heal me. Oh, and colitis in remission is mild IBS, which accounts for the occasional flare up.

It seems as though you're reading my post as an argument in the affirmative support of the Christian god... it's not.
I'm arguing that at the very least it's a contradiction for the Christian to say that the reason for divine hiddenness is because the Christian God wants us to have faith, since Jesus himself said that if christians have even the smallest amount of "faith" then "God" would not be hidden due to the miracles they could perform.
You get into tricky waters because faith is difficult to define, but these are allegedly the words of Jesus so they should probably be taken more seriously than the words of Paul. Also, if I remember correctly, the "truly" preamble was meant to ensure that the following portion was supposed to be taken literally.
Essentially, the "God is hidden because he wants us to have faith" argument is a terrible one.

One question I always had is why is one god more likely to exist than another god my guess it is because people were raised to believe that their god is the only one and for some reason other gods don’t exist. I’m of the side that there is probably no gods at all.

How it works is:
A Christain will say 'one day' in the future your issue will be resolved from their claimed God if you believe first! They may even provide a date: September 2027 will do.
A person (such as yourself) may mistakenly WAIT until 9/27 to prove them wrong of course ;)
But within the waiting for YEARS, you keep thinking of the supposed cure date (or end of world date) and years later you actually believe in a God! I mean it stands to reason, if you keep waiting for years and years, I'm telling you that psychologically it will impact you. And belief in a claimed God (reevant to the authentic waiting) may well be the result!
So what to do to avoid such a thing? Especially if you begin believing in a God and 2027 comes and goes but no fixing of your issue! (seems it must be a few more years ahead and didn't realize that originally).
How you avoid this is by saying: We don't believe and then wait for the evidence! We don't wait for lepricaun or fairy or even evil wicked witches evidence to eventutuate. We believe AFTER the evidence is shown. Therefore there's no need to wait at all for something you presently don't believe in.

I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and I was _actually_ told (alongside the excuses you mention) that we don't need bible-like miracles today _because_ we have the miracle stories in the Bible(!), and need to have confidence and faith in them. So there.

I was raised in a Protestant house church. Though I never saw an amputee's arm grow back, I have seen and heard of enough "miracles" to convince me of the truth of the gospel. The "miracles" are the primary reason that I'm convinced it's true.

Turns out she asked me to go to church with her a few Sundays later. She and the new couple picked me up on my doorstep and the four of us headed to church. When she arrived at the church she pulled out some crutches from the trunk and used them to enter the church although she didn’t seem to use them or need them when she came to my door a half hour earlier. She was also featured in the church music group as a singer so she was onstage with those crutches during the service. When it was time, the pastor called for the people to come forward to have demons cast out in the name of Jesus and whatever else they start shouting about They anointed my date with oil, prayed like the dickens and concluded the frenzy with the throwing of the crutches across the stage and the declaration of a Miracle received! That devil continued to deceive me until a few years later we finally broke up. There were many more miracles spoke about during the time we dated and many times god’s answer to prayer was no. But now I know that just because the car doesn’t die when the gas gauge shows empty, or that when you pray for a parking spot in a busy lot and you find one, it doesn’t necessarily constitute a miracle.

These are the type of stories that keep me convinced that the God of the Bible is real:
A Christian woman, lets call her Rachel, was watching a game of the soccer world cup game 20-30 years ago on TV. Marco Etcheverry, the famous Bolivian soccer play nicknamed "El Diablo", was playing in the game.
Out of apparently nowhere, Rachel suddenly had the urge to pray that she would see him in person. Sure enough, a while later (I don't know how long), when she was in an airport, she saw a crowd of people gathered around an area. After asking about it, Rachel was told that the Bolivian national team was about to arrive to the airport.
Excited that God was answering her prayer, Rachel sat in anticipation with the rest of the crowd, waiting for the team to arrive. But, due to some sleeping disorder, she fell asleep, and when she woke up, the team had already arrived and passed through the crowd. She missed the chance God gave her to see him.
Very disappointed, Rachel boarded her own flight. But when she went to her seat on the plane, she found Marco Etcheverry sitting right next to her. In the conversation they had, Rachel encouraged Marco (who was apparently a Christian) to be a testimony to the rest of his team.
THIS WOMAN is my mother. She is the opposite of an attention seeker. She doesn't even like to watch soccer. I've never once known her to intentionally lie (except for in a few rare jokes she took part in). The faith she has in the Bible and Christianity is evidently very REAL. As a whole, I can see no reason why she would fabricate a story like this.
Now, one story like this is a coincidence, but when this happens with multiple people multiple times who are in the same group, there is a reason for the pattern. I could tell stories from my mother, my father, my brother, and MANY more from the small churches I've gone to (each one had maybe 20-50 people in it). Stories I've heard from people I know involve prayers like this as well as prophesies, miraculous healings, and even demons.
If you want to find evidence of miracles, I would recommend finding a small, Bible based, Protestant church. The bigger the church is, the more likely it is to be corrupt.

I was expecting a comment about god turning from all-powerful to maximally powerful. As far as I'm aware, not a single god has been shown to have any powers. Can god lift a pencil? All-powerful god coukd, but maximally powerful could only, if the maximum god-powers were higher than those required for lifting a pencil.

They say a God won't interfere with logic, reason or laws (descriptions) of physics.
A God will not illogically, unreasonably send a 'good' Christain to the naughty place. Thus he must follow logic and reason (and titbit: That means he can be reasoned with).
Nor will God normally (other than claimed miracles 2000 years ago) all of a sudden do some anti physics tricks, say like a square planet, or a pencil floating up outside the laws of physics.
HOWEVER, he supposedly did change the laws of physics when Jesus's body flew away, and water into wine etc etc Noah's Ark 10,000 seperate miracles required to allow this one thing to happen.
THIS is the very reason why Christains say: God made the Earthquake, or tsaumi or cyclone etc etc etc natural disasters. As God WILL do things that are within the realms of it happening naturally in the first place!
But NOT a pencil lifting up on its own.
Now you know ;) And heads up, ALL questions have been answered by Christains, the answer is always: God dun it.
If God took the tedious time and effort to lift a pencil for someone, this leaves no obligation for said person to respond with logic and reasonable. Anyone could witness such an event and simply scoff and deny its power which would bring shame on God.

Merely claiming God is the universe, or love or energy! Is not a good reason to believe.
Where's the evidence or reasoning that universe=universe + God? Or love=love + God? Or energy=energy + God? There isn't any.
We can measure energy, yeah we worked out that to confirm a thing is true, you have evidence first then belief, NOT the other way around. So if there's even an unknown energy, we withold belief that lepricauns or fairies or aliens or Gods dun it, until after we have the evidence of that claimed thing.
Are you aware of the evidence of a God? I'm not, I'm not even aware of a reason to justify a belief in one.
BUT if you had a reason or evidence to THEN believe in any claimed God, then you'd likely be a billionaire because so far NO ONE has ever supplied this.
Atheists (generally) don't say NO God(s). They merely say: No reason or evidence has been supplied to warrant a belief in one. Evidence first THEN belief, makes sense to you?
