I have never seen a composer love what he does as much as this guy. He really enjoys his job. Fabulous music. They used London Symphony in Lord Of The Rings Movies. Awesome music.
it sounds more like a movie theme than a symphonic masterpiece. even then, the work provides opportunities for people playing a wide range of instruments to showcase their talent, and it can probably even appeal to the tastes of those who wouldn't usually sit down and listen to a piece of classical music. a great piece overall, and a fantastic way to unite the global community through music, the universal language. bravo, tan dun and the youtube symphony orchestra!
I put this on a list of my favorite songs years ago. I came across the list today and couldn’t remember it until I had another listen. I’m so glad I wrote it down! It’s so good!
I love the facial expressions that Tan Dun does while conducting. It's as if he's absorbing the fantastic sounds the orchestra is producing and jumping in glee. Has he conducted orchestras before? I need to read up on him. He might just be my new hero. :D
You know, I think the reason I like this is not because the music itself is quite pleasing, but rather, the fact that people from all around the world are willing to be part of an orchestra which is playing a symphony...for an internet site. Also, the fact that the instruments dont exactly blend together and sound like Bethoven kind of gives it it's own distinct feeling. It's an organized, yet a loose composition. I like that, and that's why this deserves 6 stars out of 5 and a favorite.
Tan Dun's improvised music was so awesome. Tan arranged and created his own percussion like car wheels and mags of the car! Wow! So fantastic and wonderful musical arrangement! This is an EPIC SUCCESS!!! Yipeekahyay!!!
Perhaps one of, if not the greatest orchestral trumpeters of all time Maurice Murphy. His sound and musicianship are legendary. Listen to the beauty of his trumpet playing at 1:07. By the way for those that aren't aware of him. His trumpet is the prominent sound on most of John Williams's movie sound tracks such as Star Wars, IndianJones and the Superman soundtracks and more. Recently retired, he is "The Man" when it comes to how the trumpet should sound.
Dear Tan Dun, this is NOT a symphony, it is film music. Symphony for UA-cam couldn't be so romantic, it MUST be symphony, this is only short schmaltzy music!
I have just heard this piece and must react. First of all, I do NOT understand music as much as some of you might. I'm not a music scholar... What is important to me is the feeling I get when listenning. From this one I get joy. It is full of life and so real and so joyful. I mean, come on people don't you hear the love for music in it and don't you see he gives all of his heart into it?! Just watch him and listen. This is simply great!
follow your dreams dont let no one say u cant acomplish something u really want in life if your passion for it is there and it makes u happy do it with all your heart
Simply beautiful. I actually cried. Man I wish they had something like this for choir, I can't play an istrument but I can sing, I would love to do something like this.
i don't care wat people say- beautiful music is beautiful music.

Oh people were excited to listen it even people who likes classics, even people who does not. This piece is quite connecting everybody together and I believe that this is the main purpose of message in this music.
It might seem strange at first glance that he calls for car wheels and brake discs in his score, but he manages to make them really part of the music! Bravo!
i dont see why everyone hates this piece, i personally think it sounds great, and this was written as a audition piece in the first place, it isnt supposed to sound superb..
Tan Dun makes every concert a fantastic, memorable show! I adore the way he conducts - you can clearly see the fun and joy he feels while doing so, it's hard not to smile along with him and instantly the whole concert seems like a private meeting of good friends :))) He's also a very enjoyable person off stage - he tells a lot of jokes and smiles all the time :)
They are used for percussion. Many things can be used as a percussion instrument. Pots, pans, and cowbells are fairly popular instruments in symphonic works.
Wow !!! Tan Dun conducts with his whole heart, soul and body - he uses his Cerebrum and cerebellum altogether, according to my daughters. Nice work, extremely nice. Gives my girls something to aspire for.
wow...this is amazing.. I dont know about the movements. All i know is that when they move, especially the violin, they move harmoniously and its truly a spectacular sight.. I would love to watch them live..
That was Beethoven's "Eroica" (Symphony No 3) This was written by the conductor specifically for UA-cam. However around 2:39 they play the theme from the original Eroica,
let's not forget the conductor rehearses the orchestra!!! The public never sees the rehearsal but may equally as important as what happens on stage in the concert.
Really awesome!!! Wonderful! Beautiful!!! to all the Orchestra members... Kudos! More Power to you...God Bless you. To Mr. Tan Dun...you broke the barriers of Oneness...Music is no respecter of separation and divisiveness. Congrats! May your tribe increase!
i love tan dun! seeing someone whos so into the music just makes everyone else work harder and appreciate the piece more. i guess that goes for loving everything, not just music.
i LOVE the LSO! even though i live in nyc and hear the ny phil at least once a month during their season, nothing compares to the few times i was able to hear the LSO live in london.
tan dun incorporated the theme from beijing olympics victory song. but even the that was composed by HIMSELF. so it's not like he copied from someone else or anything. this is simply a rearrangement-- and it's a rearrangement beautifully and gracefully done.
The concept is good! An Universal Idol contest! There is not point on criticizing! The emotional achievement of a conductor amalgamating the individual skills of each performer it is what matters! Very few will be able to make a living but music can be a nice hobby on the side at any level! And that's the point music to enjoy!
they actually wrote it together , they have worked together in the past. most of it is dun's composition with bits taken from Beethoven symphony no. 3 also called eroica you can hear it in the beginning.
I think this is very well-played. The tone is phenomenal. Even though they auditioned over UA-cam, I personally think they pulled this off magifincently.
I have never seen a composer love what he does as much as this guy. He really enjoys his job. Fabulous music. They used London Symphony in Lord Of The Rings Movies. Awesome music.
It's so nice to see a conductor actually enjoying himself. They always look so stern and uppity. Tan Dun is great!
i LOVE the conductor, i dont think anyone else conducts with as much joy and spirit as he does. love it
This was one of the first videos on youtube I replayed over and over again

Soo much emotions, colour and character in the music... Just can't stop watching it everyday...

That last roll always sends chills down my spine...
Sooo epic.
You might think that they're weird, but the more excited they are, the more exiciting the music is. All great conductors are like that.
Simply beautiful. I actually cried. Man I wish they had something like this for choir, I can't play an istrument but I can sing, I would love to do something like this.

WOW !! Tan Dun is a genuis, and well done London Symphony Orchestra for pulling this piece off and making it sound so musical =D
It might seem strange at first glance that he calls for car wheels and brake discs in his score, but he manages to make them really part of the music! Bravo!
I love this soooo much 😭😭😍😍 why did UA-cam stop doing this every year?
I've never heard a Trumpet really just SING like that before. That guy is awesome!
Two and a half years and it still makes my eyes well up.
So much energy!!
Amazing!
I just wished the sound quality was better.
The timpani is the major give-away.
Grandes músicos!
I think the movements the conductor does make the performance even more interesting to watch.
The young women on the mallets...i love her way to play....the whole orchestra is amazing
i dont see why everyone hates this piece, i personally think it sounds great, and this was written as a audition piece in the first place, it isnt supposed to sound superb..

i believe this is the time of more modern symphonys, using new techniques that shall move this style of music forward into a new age.
really captures what youtube is all about. Crazy! Fun! Chaotic! Touching! All over the place! With meaning and meaningless at the same time...
The conductor makes this video AMAZING!!
I actually saw this great composer conduct his piano concerto and Marco Polo in person! It was great!
This song was a LOT of fun to play for the auditions!!!! I still play it once and a while! Can't wait till the next UA-cam Symphony!

He conducts an orchestra while performing Tai Chi, wonderful!!

That was Beethoven's "Eroica" (Symphony No 3) This was written by the conductor specifically for UA-cam.
However around 2:39 they play the theme from the original Eroica,
it may be repetitive, but I really like the melody and the excitement of the song... A great symphony to me indeed...
best expression on a conductor i've ever seen
let's not forget the conductor rehearses the orchestra!!! The public never sees the rehearsal but may equally as important as what happens on stage in the concert.

The concert master represents the whole orchestra. The conductor can hardly shake the hand of every member.

Considering this is youtube official, I'm supprised it's not widescreen and HD, but it's pretty amazing none the less :)
Very nice, catchy , soundtrack style tune. Really like the wheel and disc brake percussion.
Had to favorite, one of the most amazing things accomplished in Internet History. Good job, great song.

The ghostly silhouette of the cello case behind Tan Dun! I wonder how many cellists around the world has that case!
I love that. I got chills at the end.
