You unlocked something with this interview . Answers to questions we didn't even think we would hear.
This is when we first started doing hand rails, street just started.
Are you THAT Kenna?
@@samdustinchris which Kenna are u talking about
KENNA Martin Of Martindales Goodby
$1.00 per board these guys made on Powell Peralta. It's amazing how many skateboards were sold in the 1980's for these guys to make their earnings outside of contests.
My favorite board from my youth. Saved up for months to get it. Having such a nostalgia moment
My first real board was Saiz. I had a blue one. Dope!
Dude…$20k in the 80’s was easily like $250k rn. Real Talk.
Because things were SO Affordable then. Legit almost cost nothing.
You could Buy a fresh regularly neighborhood house for $20k. Real Talk.
95 You got a 2 story house with a nice lot in Vegas for $110k
Mid to late 80’s you could still get a nice 1 story house for $20k. No BS
no, 20k in 1980 would equal to around $70,945.63.
@@RickySpanish168 For $70k in Vegas 1980 you’d get a decent house and still have $ 15-20k
His part in Public Domain was awesome.
That’s rad!
STEVE SAIZ best miniramp part.
Everything goes back to Peralta. It will be epic if they get him.
I had to think, but then... the board was right there in the background. Understandble, look at those graphics, come on. I didn't have that board, but one of my friends sure did, caus I remember it clearly
That must've sold insane numbers, just look at it!
My cousin bought one of your decks when we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach at a shop in '89. I was at his house not long ago, and he still has it hanging up! On a side note, I bought a Vallely EOE deck on this same trip. Unfortunately, I don't have that one anymore.
Most people don't understand if you make lot's of money legit that you don't make much money because the government will take almost half. People become millionaires because they figure out ways to not pay taxes (Amazon).
Amazon also employs thousands of people. So there should be tax breaks, Especially when you are creating jobs. Are you implying “the rich don’t pay there fair share”? Lol
@@DMoney505 Um, why should there be tax breaks? They are employing thousands of people and paying them peanuts.
@@robert3640 That’s how capitalism works. They have to pay employees their salary/wages, Insurance, Medical etc. No tax breaks and all jobs go overseas, That’s what happens when you have a socialist running the country “TAX THE RICH” even though the top income earners pay the most taxes, Not too mention all the philanthropy!
This is America where you can literally come from another country with nothing build a business, Become a millionaire and be able to write off expenses! 🤷🏿♂️
@@DMoney505 If anything, it should be small business getting tax breaks so they have an opportunity to expand and bring new ideas to the market place. Politicians and corporations would never let that happen. I don't think you have a clue what is really going on.
@@robert3640 They only want mega corporations in business, Which is why mom and pop couldn’t remain open during COVID but Walmart homedepot and McDonald’s was not a problem.
But Small businesses do get breaks when you compare to a normal employee working for an hourly wage. Taxes are still high, But not when compared to the income you are able to earn and being able to write off expenses.
Every kid with a skateboard in the late 80's in shitty Erlanger KY had a PP deck. They mustve made so so so much money!!
Monty rode for Schmitt Stix too backside Smith namesake 💯
I want a Steve skaeboard
Steve Saiz
Bothers me they don’t put the persons name in the title sometimes
Is skateboarding just not as popular now? I've always felt its still at it's peak, but seeing this blew my mind. Had no idea board companies paid this much back then
lol being on powell back then was being a member of The Beatles. Skateboarding has reached more people now for sure versus back then, but back then people were fuckin RABID about skateboarding and were throwing their money at the big brands. People today hardly give a fuck about what board they ride, as long as they have a board to ride. Back then, having the "right board" was crucial lol.
@@davidristic3800 that makes sense. it's so crazy to me too because i've heard board sponsors pay the least now since shoes and drinks came into the space, but it always blew my mind because it felt like the board sponsor was "the sponsor" to have.

One of the skaters that was on the Bones brigade.... Steve Saiz
@@samgreen9752 thanks for not being a douche and giving a actual answer rare to see nowadays 👍🏽
Watch Powell Peralta "Ban This" and "Propaganda" burn it into your brain son
@@samgreen9752 content crrators have gotten lazy in the description menu! Thanks.
@@BobbyGeneric145 seriously what do you expect from crob. Dude's as fake as it gets now see if I did the show it probably wouldn't last long because I'd be honest I thought that was the whole point of doing interviews was to get some like good details about their life not fluff honestly the show kind of sucks that's my rant sorry
How many hairlines are we ashamed of?
We need to blow up Skateboarding again and make it popular again. Like how punk rock made a resurgence because of MGK
*pop-punk
Punk is making a "resurgence" because of MGK? LOL ok little one, go listen to Turnstile/Viagra Boys/Idles. Your welcome
That's either a joke or you're a little kid
@@johnsellas4455 even the guys were talking about the good ol' days. How everyone was buying their boards and they got paid because of how popular it was. Supply and demand
@@RuseGuise skateboarding is way more popular now, I remember my dad complaining about how much my first Vision Jinx cost which was about 120 for complete some completes went up to 150 skateboards have gotten way cheaper compared to 80’s because there is more companies and more skaters, I think the first major exhibition I went to in the 80’s there was no more then like 20 ppl including the skaters there it was also the first time I had ever seen Freestyle skating.
