"Farinelli's singing voice was provided by the Polish soprano Ewa Malas-Godlewska and a countertenor, Derek Lee Ragin, who were recorded separately and then digitally merged to recreate the sound of a castrato." Hopefully this helps! :)
Yes true except for this song in which Derek wasn't involved.

I can’t believe some people say that they don’t like the way the actor’s facial expression. It is a film abt a castrated boy.. He expresses what he’s been through since he was stolen his body, mind and love at that moment. Not just a Rinaldo. He couldn’t choose to express to soley cry, sing, or roar but mixed a lot of things. He was stood there his heart beaten and wonded.

The literal English translation from Wikipedia about this song:
Let me weep over
my cruel fate,
and let me sigh for
liberty.
May sorrow shatter
these chains,
for my torments
just out of pity.
was he abused as a child?
But what's it about ?
@@ravenandrewricamora8698 he was castrated

In the movie, he did not want to be a castrato, but his brother took advantage of his superb voice and so drugged him with opium and castrated him...

Love the peacock quietly opening its tail behind Farinelli. It has nothing to do with anything, it's just eerily beautiful.

One of the most beautiful music diamonds ever!
Thank you to whoever wrote this❤❤❤
When I first heard this song, saw this film many years ago, it was unlike anything I had heard or seen before. This made me feel something so deeply exhilarating and yet also profoundly sad all at once. I never forgot that feeling. So now, many years later, to find it again here, experiencing it is as if for the first all over. Truly unlike anything I'd ever heard then, or since.
Castratos, the first singing superstars. At quite a human and personal cost!
Dieser Film hat mich tief berührt. Was für ein aufgezwungenes Schicksal. Diese Arie ging tief unter die Haut.
For me. One of the best sorrowful compositions in the world and sung with such passion. Grandiose.
As I mentioned before, Handel wrote some of the most beautiful compositions in music
i have heard every version of this in youtube, but still this exact version including the impactful ending is still the best ever version. although i know this voice was digitally mixed creation of two real singers. i dont care. this is still my favoite version.

This quite extraordinary scene never fails to bring tears to my eyes. In the midst of the beautiful singing, the sublime singing, the politics between the composers Handel, Porpora and Broschi and the bigger political battle between the Prince of Wales and his father George II, there is the magnificently understated scene of the newly castrated boy placed in a bath of milk as blood slowly rises to the top. Such terrible abuse of children, tolerated for so long, is presented in this background of one of the most beautiful pieces of music there is.

I recall entering a music shop and they started to play it. Good speakers. I was shook to the core.

Great sensibility
Some music sounds so harmonious and natural that it's almost as if it has always existed. The composer was just the first one to write it down.
That's just how I feel, like it was already in my head and someone just let it out.

Sei già vissuto in quell epoca
Comparto tu comentario y añadiría Enrico Caruso, mítico e inmortal.

So relatable
I just woke up from a dream where the world was different..I was dancing with a young woman in her living room to the piano rendition of this her mother watched or was playing actually. We quickly yet softly released each others hold with us locking fingers just before quickly letting each other go..as her father made his way down the hallway...and I remember looking at the sheet music which brought me here.... because in my dream I was so entranced by this song and that moment..I've never heard this song before...but this is the song I heard...
Maybe your subconscious is releasing a distant memory from a past life. Those must have been happy times :)
Haendel, hermoso todo lo que creó; inspiración humana o divina Es inmenso
Mi commuove sempre questa canzone.
Still the best interpretation ever, even if it was done by computer technicians. You can tell they put their souls in to get it as near to the castrati voice it was written for.
It's just the soprano Godlewska singing in this particular song.
I personally find castrati singing revolting.Listened to some recordings. There is no debth to their voices.

No depth? Blame the recording quality of cylinders. The Castrati singing in this video is 45 years old, recorded in 1904 which was remastered to remove recording scratches and cleaned to more modern standards of recording. There's actually a lot more depth than the best modern male counter tenor singers who rely too much on head voice as shown in this video.
Handel's difficult moments...👏🎶🎵😍
I love this movie and its soundtrack, I just wish the actor playing Farinelli would have had a coach who taught him proper mouth movements/positions for his singing parts. One doesn't simply open one's lips as wide as possible to make these sounds, one has absolute control over them, and the amount of air and sound coming out of them
I watched the film about creating this movie. Stefano Dionisi has rather nice baritono, and he was singing mezza voce while action. There was a teacher who taught him correct breathing and sounding.

MEZMIRAZING TO SAY THE VERY LEAST. BRILLIANT.
"Lascia ch'io pianga" is a famous aria from George Frideric Handel's opera "Rinaldo." The aria is sung by the character Almirena, who is lamenting her fate. Here is the English translation of the Italian lyrics:
Lascia ch'io pianga
(Let me weep)
Lascia ch'io pianga
(Let me weep)
La cruda sorte,
(My cruel fate,)
E che sospiri
(And that I long)
La libertà!
(For freedom!)
Il duolo infranga
(Let sorrow break)
Queste ritorte
(These chains)
De' miei martiri
(Of my sufferings)
Sol per pietà.
(Only for pity's sake.)
The aria expresses a deep sense of sorrow and longing for freedom, conveyed through its beautiful and moving melody. Handel's music, combined with the poignant lyrics, has made "Lascia ch'io pianga" one of the most enduring and beloved arias in the classical repertoire.
