This tip has had instant and transformative effect, on promoting a turn (instead of a mostly-arms swing), slowing my swing and improving my ball striking and accuracy, all in just one practice session. The 50% slower swing has only cost me 10 yards, because I’m hitting the ball so well. There’s more work to do, but this has shown me the way I need to play from now on. Thanks Chris!
By far the best golf videos on UA-cam. Thanks for all you do Chris, you've really improved my game and made me feel a lot better out on the course. I don't watch any other golf teachers on UA-cam anymore.
Chris, thanks for the lesson. This is a great foundational idea, many things must be done correctly for this to occur. Malahos from Pat, Kapolei Hawaii
Great explanation and demonstration. I struggle with getting my hips open enough to get proper shaft lean at impact. The feeling of the front toe lifted, forcing more weight on to my lead side heel forces my left hip to move away from the ball not toward the ball and then this feeling opens my hips slightly more. Just a great feeling. Hit balls on the range only thinking of this with great results. Can’t wait to ingrain this into my swing. Thanks for your great demo and explanation. Well done!
Man, been looking for this video. I think too much about checkpoints in my feet and not my hips - keeping them pretty static and my feet over exaggerated leading to no balance. This is such an eye opener
Thanks Chris. This was a great video. I’m trying to develop this foot action ... hip turn and feel. Such a challenging game. Golf 2020 ... the challenge is on 🇿🇦
Great stuff recently, which I am benefitting from. I’m a 16 handicap and would really appreciate some focus on the ‘feels’ and drills to concentrate on during the winter months to get ready for next season. Seasons greetings to you and yours.
Hi Chris! That's great and useful! Would you have some sort of recommendation to break the long bad habit for those who have been spinning their trail foot too fast before ball impact. Thanks!
Mr. Ryan, I don't know if you have done a video focusing on how the knee's should move during the swing? However, I would like you to consider doing one if you haven't. You covered the feet and hips but I am still having trouble transferring my weight to my lead side. Thanks🌲🌲🌲
To all commenters, This lesson is the key to a proper golf swing. BUT, this will be a lot of work for many mid to high handicappers. You will mostly be looking for and hopefully finding the proper posture/set up positions to make this work properly. Without these positions the footwork and hip positions will not fall into place on a repeating basis. Lots of luck based/ trial and error learning will ensue..as most of have done in this everlasting quest for a functional golf swing. Now...there is a functional pre shot move that will aid in achieving this postural KEY that will allow the foot roll to control the swing. I know what it is BUT, I hope our instructor Chris Ryan will properly address this KEY component and incorporate it into his lesson of proper foot work. The quest for golf swing knowledge continues.
I often find my lead foot turning towards the target at the end of the swing rather than be more parallel. Weight in the lead heel though, so I 'm pretty sure I'm not hitting off my trail leg. Just curious if that may be an indication of something I can work on.
I do have the same issue, where the left foot rotates quite substantially towards the target....always done that. Is this a problem to developing good consistent ball hitting?
Yes same thing happens to me especially with driver - do see it happen on TV to some pro players though they don't always have the nice balanced finish Chris is showing here. It feels like my hip rotation drags the foot round at end of the swing. @@sevenoranges
After hitting for awhile I have a pretty sharp pain in my left ankle (right handed). It happens because I get a bit up on my toes when I follow through. Any tips on keeping your feet planted? I've tried but sometimes cant help my left foot getting on its toes and twisting in my follow through. Any advice very much appreciated.
A great practice drill is try putting a ball under your trail toes and hitting golf shots. This will help ensure you shift the weight to the inside of the foot. Cheers
Strange question, but something I’ve been curious about. Has anyone ever thought about what the feet and toes are doing inside the shoes during the golf swing that may affect what’s going on in the foot work or lower body movements during the golf swing? (Ex: Toes clinging/extra tension etc.) I was hitting balls barefoot the other day for the first time in a really long time and I started thinking about it. I also know I wear out the big toe in all my insoles of all my right shoes, but not as much my left shoe insole. My foot work in my swing is something I’ve always struggled with. Anyway, just curious.
Having the feet open Manoj, helps open up the hips and get a better weight transfer. Don't have to have then open a lot, but just a couple of inches so at least they are no pointing straight ahead. Cheers
Does the lead leg straightening cause the hips to open ?
4 роки тому
No. Internal/external rotation with Your thigh muscles causes hips opening. If You kick Your lead leg straight You´ll have severe back problems at some point of Your golf career. I am unfortunately doing that and I am trying to get rid of it. If You kick lead leg straight You block free rotation of Your trail hip. In this video (Not Chris) is explained quite nicely what You should try to do to get hips open. ua-cam.com/video/Gw1v0SJ9-Hs/v-deo.html

I will definitely be trying this as I only have golf domes this time of year so this drill will hopefully help my game

Great explanation! I definitely need more hip turn at impact. I will work on footwork to help make that happen. Keep ‘em coming!!
I slowed my footage of my driver swing down and my heels ever so slightly come up and fall down after impact?

reverse C. Very important is the footwork. Great video
Great tip Chris hope you and family have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year thanks for all you do
Foot position in the golf swing is critical to distance and ball control. Thanks for drawing attention to this!

Great for early extension also Chris. 👍
Another great tip Chris! Cheers and happy holidays

As an older player, footwork has always been a problem.
Good exercises Chris!
Will be practicing in the new year

Brilliant! This might fix me hitting off my back foot. Definitely don’t use my hips enough

Superb advise 👍
Please send info about Orlando golf school in March

Excellent- thanks
Pl tell how much knee should bend? This is crucial to stability.
Do you load your weight into the instep of of your trail foot in the backswing?
Chris, I have an issue where I get on to my trail toes rather than shifting to the inside of the foot. High rights are killing me, any advice?
A great practice drill is try putting a ball under your trail toes and hitting golf shots. This will help ensure you shift the weight to the inside of the foot. Cheers
I swear he reads my mine. Feet and hips this year. I know one thing when my hips open the contact is so clean. My arms still trying to win the race.
Don't let those arms win the race Frank, keep at it. Cheers

Hi
Can you plz tell me why we need to open my left feet 🦶 lift bit
Is it good to open or it parallel to each other 🦶

My feet leave a noticeable amount of damage to the grass after my swing.. is there a such thing as overactive feet or too much foot pressure?
I feel like I rotate far too much, my heel comes off the ground during the downswing, is that bad?
is it same to driver.the legs?

Is this why I struggle to get to a good follow through ? I end up with my weight to near my toes and don’t feel well balanced!
It could well be Wayne yes
🤠💞💞💞😎
The feet/ankle effect the knees. The knees effect the hips.
I got PTSD when he said I’ll be in Orlando in March 2020
