- What a corker! Washburn chucked all the best bits at these. 18:1 Grovers, all mahogany and a really clever humbucker to single pickup control. These things are utter bargains - if you see one, get it bought!
Had my Washburn Wi pro 2011 for about 8 yrs..It covers my LP needs🤜🤛👍🎸
Hi there Ben :-) Ah, the one that got away. Absolutely everything about this guitar boils my egg. I love the Marvel comic headstock logo and the VCC control combined with those super hot SD pickups.....not to mention the quality set neck wood choice and Grover 18:1 rotomatics - what was I thinking? I'm currently stalking another one. Cheers, Gary :-)
YES! I have one of these! It's been my main guitar for the better part of a decade now, but I have to admit it was initially purchased by a dear friend of mine who is frankly a genius, thoroughly did his research on it - amazing guitar, especially for the price!
Hi Robert :-) These guitars are incredible. I'm always on the lookout for the WI Series instruments. That Buzz Feiten system is excellent and these guitars are vastly underrated. As are Washburns in general, I think. I've got an old Washburn KC Chicago series which I just can't part with. You've got a keeper there Robert. Cheers :-)
I had one of these for a few years. Mine had an identical spec with the SD pickups and VCC, but was satin black with a little skull on the headstock. They are a great spec and really cheap. The Buzz Feiten tuning system actually has a compensated nut which helps with tuning and intonation across the strings. Very clever, but to be honest the shape didn't inspire me, so I got rid in the end.
Hi there Garry, nice to hear from you mate :-) Yeah, the specs and quality bits are astonishing and it's so easy to play. I think the main problem with these things not taking the world by storm are the country of origin and name on the headstock.....and obviously, beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. There's not much out there that impresses me in a significant way but this one really did. Thanks for the Buzz Feiten info buddy - cheers :-)
Now i want one of this color, after seeing yours. Mine is gloss black with SD pickups.
Hi Cabway :-) Oh how I miss this guitar. I sold it back to the guy I bought it from and he's since moved it on. Washburn is one of my most frequent searches and I'm frequently stalking them on eBay and Reverb. One of the guitars I actually can't bear to part with is an old Washburn KC Chicago Series Superstrat from 1990. Ah, I still get the whiff of Spandex and hairspray every time I open the case hahahahaha. Seriously though, if you have one of these in gloss black or any other finish then you have a great instrument, I reckon they're one of the best guitars I've ever played. Cheers, Gary :-)
That sounds great foxy, really nice tone!
Hi there Ben and thanks :-) I've got to be honest and tell you I was reluctant to part with this guitar but one can't keep everything. Anyway, it went to a mate of mine who'll probably sell it back to me once the honeymoon's over! Cheers :-)
love these guitars, don't know why they never caught on
Hi there Κράτος :-) Yup, totally agree with this. These really need snapping up when they come on the market - utterly astonishing and way better than I could've hoped for - cheers :-)
I have a rather rare WI66V with vibrato arm - I've never seen another one since I bought it new. Fabulous guitar. I loved the original "Idol" shape until Washburn changed it to resemble a plug-ugly bastardized Les Paul-a-like. Great shame. Also have a couple of the cheapo entry-level Idols for thrashing on stage and like those too. Amazing value for money in their day.
Hi Mirlitron :-) If it's the one I'm thinking of it has a Floyd Rose type vibrato system and looks a similar shape to those Jarrell guitars (which are no doubt copies of the WI66). In my book, any Washburn that has a designation ending with the letter 'V' will be fun to play. I'm sorry I let that WI65 Pro go TBH. It was a corker and had all that Buzz Feiten electronic wizardry going on. Cheers :-)
That squeals nicely 😀
Hi there Anthony and thanks :-) Oh my, what a lot of guitar for the money and absolutely stuffed full of goodies! I can hand on heart recommend these for materials, craftmanship and playability. Oh, and price! Cheers :-)
I would give real money for that! If I had any.... Ha ha!
Don't really use the tone controls either but its nice to know they exist.
Anyway.. Awesome axe. The playing was superb and the review was great!
Yeah.. gonna put some grovers on my epiphone cornetto. Thanks man!
Hahahaha, thanks Mr White :-) I must tell you that this thing's a diamond. Get one bought whilst they're still cheap. Same as you, I don't really have a need for a tone control, let alone coil taps or splitty push/pulls but I do like that humbucker to single blending thingy - very clever. Mmmmm, Cornetto, lovely gelato - Cheers :-)

Hello there Foxy, I'm wondering, I just found one of these, for around 300£, would you say it's a good price? I can't find anything around to compare.
Your playing was fantastic, great review, much appreciated mate 🤟🏻
I've been wondering what are your thoughts about ESP guitars, or especially LTD EC-1000?
Hi there Time Toulouse :-) So weird you should ask because there's a Kirk Hammett coming up in few weeks with a Floyd Rose and EMG pickups. Rock solid guitars that are well built. Cheers :-)
Very blues grass
Hi there Dherdy :-) What an astonishing guitar. I just had a listen back to it now and wish 'd tried to buy it from the guy who owned it. I'm on the hunt again. Cheers :-)
Bloody brilliant yare 🤙☎️💿🥛
Hi there Tyke and thanks :-) These guitars are so much better than the price would indicate. Get one bought while they're still cheap - cheers :-)
Epiphone Matin Washburn are the oldest American guitar makers
Hi there Doctor S :-) Yes, agreed. Epiphone turns out to have Greek origins but I think Rickenbacker made the first electric guitar. I saw one for sale recently that was made from Bakelite!!! How cool is that? Cheers :-)
Question.....How to ruin a perfectly decent guitar....easy just sell a Washburn WI 65 to a Tony Lommi fan on a budget.
Hahahaha, hi Michael :-) Agreed about the budget status but man, these are really impressive and you get a load of bang for your buck (or quid). I thought Tony Iommi was an SG man. To be honest I'm not an SG fan but I do have an interesting older model coming up in a couple of weeks or three and to be fair to this guitar, were it not for the name on the headstock I've honestly enjoyed playing the Washburn so much more. Loving that humbucker/single blending thingy. I'll probably not use it so often but it's a neat trick - cheers :-)
I had a Tony Iommi SG but when I got this, the one in the video I put some cross sticker inlays on it because it has no markings whatsoever otherwise🤔
Hi Vinny 🙂 I know what you mean. I have a Gibson Les Paul Menace that has only a brass fist inlay at the 7th fret. I found after a while that the tiny dot markings on the side of the fretboard were enough to get along with but you've certainly got to retrain your brain to adapt! Cheers 🙂
