What I find interesting is that in a world where we break down every pixel in every movie ever made, a colour change in the French flag went unnoticed for an entire freaking year. The internet has failed 😂.
Conspiracy theorists don't give a Flying Philadelphia for France, obviously
It's not changed. its the original version. The darker blue version is the original designed in 1794 after the revolution used until 1974 (excluding the years 1815-30 when the monarchy was restored.) In 1974 France adopted a lighter blue to honour the EU. However there is no explicit law stating whether the dark blue or light blue is official. They are both correct and are used interchangeably.
Palki is way better than any media person we have here in the USA

I may not be French but I definitely like the darker color on the flag more because not only it's appealing or elegant to the eyes but also, has a rather amazing history behind it!

i'm french and i actually prefer the lighter shade of blue, but i generally prefer bright colors. Also to be fair, the french constitution states that the flag is blue, white and red, but doesn't state what shade of blue so for all legal purposes, macron did not "change" anything, as evidenced by the fact that no administration was asked to change their flags. both are perfectly valid.

If my leader changed the flag in any way without a broad public discussion I would feel it was grossly arrogant he thought he had the power to do so.
Same.
We in my country ( U.S.) would just change him/her
The US hasn't changed its flag in over 60 years. I still have the old one.
But then: it is a return to the « genuine » colors, so we are all ok with it, here in France.
Apart from those who couldn’t care less, and they are many.
MACRON must be changed in stead of changing French FLAG.
I was surprised to read about this change. However on reading the history of the French flag I found that the lighter shade was introduced in1976 by President Valery Giscard D'Estaing. The French Constitution of 1958 does not specify a shade of blue or red and in fact President D'Estaing also slightly changed the shade of red. Both versions have been widely used with the darker shade particularly but not exclusively on government buildings. President Macron has only asked the darker shade to be used on the Elysee Palace and has not specified it must be used elsewhere. So this story is a piece of trivia signifying nothing.
Logos subtly change across mediums.
Exactly. And the Navy flag even kept the darker shade of blue.
Yes. Dark blue is the first from the revolution.
I prefer the colors that I got used to until now. They are refreshingly more exuberant than the American colors.
Very interesting to know that Afghanistan has changed its flag 19 times…. They really change their mind fast.

Nobody knows what tyrant cult may come along next better keep it fluid
Boy are you high! The problem is that the people don't stand for anything not for themselves not for their country or culture soo that's why when every fool takes charge he changes the flag
Unfortunately they haven't changed their mindset.
Shows how stable it is..
The darker blue is the original blue shade of the french flag in the napoleonic era.
So actually it’s not changed to a new flag. It’s gone back to the original.
The color blue on a flag usually symbolize vigilance, patriotism, perseverance, justice
It does?
I think it s military.
it's strange, however, that a president can change the color of flag without congressional approval.
No, the color blue symbolizes untrue, as blue appears to be a color in nature that you seen unnaturally.
I don't see the point... it's still blue
People: "why did change flag, Mr. Mac?"
Mac: "better blue."
Macron: I gotta change the flag and I don’t know why,
People: who cares,
He's making France seem confused
The crux of this all.
They seem to care now.

I know this is out of topic but I love the French motif fleur-de-lis. It looks so beautiful. Would definitely use it in my flag if I had my own country. lol
For once you did not do your homework correctly, WION:
The French flag used to bear the Navy blue until the mid seventies when then president Valéry Giscard Destaing switched to a blue that would be closer of that of the then EEC (bound to become the EU later).
The problem with the lighter shade of blue is that it is linked to Mary (mother of Jesus), and this cannot bode well in a country so vehemently secular as France.
Last: why the navy blue?
This has to do with the revolution: the nobles’s color was the white, that of Paris was and remains Navy blue and blood red, it is in fact the colors of Paris, representing the people, surrounding that of the aristocracy.
Here you go.
Super travail ! 🙌🏾
Thanks for explaination.
wasnt it also used during the time of napoleon
@Pilk Dog: Napoleon rose to fame during this revolution, he did indeed officialize the « tricolore » but it was adorned with golden lys flowers ( again a symbol of the monarchy) later replaced by bees, as it was « his » animal of predilection.

Changing flags, means many flags are suddenly labeled as "old". It costs a lot of money and you almost never gain anything. All other countries for a while won't know about your change and keep waving the old. Books around the world showing the old flag.
Suddenly you see a new flag you never saw before and you keep wondering what the country is, because you learned all flags from the books. Is there really nothing better you can put your effort in?
It has cost 5000€ as a whole and is actually a return to France’s normal flag.
He has too much money to spend.
@@jetaddicted The blue of all red white & blue North European flags has changed, (as has the red, from red orange) in graphics, a result of changes in technology and taste. (Has anyone checked the stars and stripes for comparison?)
For example WWll Union flags in museums have Navy Blue. (Note this blue was a different from one component part of the union flag, the flag of Scotland in which the blue isn't greyed down)🏴 Technical context,
n the age of black and white newsreels a difference in tone would be more eye-catching. As in, red then reads black and the navy blue reads black leading to stark contrast. In the technicolor online age, pure colour competes better.🇫🇷
(Globally, the newer the flag the brighter the colours)
Why the change? well you have his verbal allusion to the reign of terror,🚩 l mean the glorious revolution, where a covert group of the Old Order became a Monopoly and The New Order through "eliminating all competition", and then eliminating original "prosecutors" in turn, and so on down the line, until the blood lust turned to disgust.
Plenty of evidence of fraternity, 🚩not so much of liberty ( apart from the early release from prison of the criminally insane) ... or equality.
So it would be an ominous association, why would he want that?So the new old flag nostalgic, more jingoistic, more "subtle" (from subtile) But is it a🏳️ as well as a 🚩? or a flag to be dipped in blood?
I prefer the colors that I got used to until now. They are refreshingly more exuberant than the American colors.

@@DCookStaVideo doubt it. His poll results are low compared to his ex-prime minister who is also competing for presidency. And that years long mass Yellow Vest protest certainly does not help his image either.
@@porkysharma8423 poll results mean nothing, and you don't make policy out of polls (doing that would be setting yourself up for failure, opinion is volatile and changes from day to day), policy making is not a short term popularity contest... I know it's difficult for many people to understand in this time where image seems to be everything.... but image doesnt make a political result in the end, image doesnt put food in your plate daily, and image certainly does not solve any systemic problems...
you can check the polls made in the years before any previous elections in the last 2 decades, none have ever predicted accurately the end results (best excample is a certain april 21st where the polls favourite did not even pass the 1st round).

@@aiziszizis2536 Macron is under the military's control or it is someone else with a mask.
Strictly it is a non-issue, though a major change in the flag can rouse passions. Deeper blue colour doesn’t change the essential characteristics of the French flag.

It concerns me Macron did this without telling anyone for 16 months. That means he lied to his own people for 16 months.
I am French. I want to know what this darker blue represents. However, besides that, it does not bother me. Poor Macron has to do something to mark his time besides all the disasters.
it means the same thing, the exact shade of blue and red are not decided in our constitution. If you want to have a blue white red flag with different shade than the most common, it will STILL be a French flag. Also the darker blue version is, in fact, and has been for a very long time, the most common version anyway (all the mass produced French flag have that darker blue). They only put a paler blue in THAT PLACE in the 70s to avoid having the tone of blue clash with the EU flag's tone of blue, because it was right next to an EU flag. Macron reverted that.
