- Johnny Depp has spoken to the BBC about his return to cinema following a three year break.
The Hollywood actor attended the premiere of Jeanne du Barry, in which he plays Louis XV, at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival.
It is Depp's first major role since a series of high-profile court battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Shame on the BBC for this line of questioning. He was cleared of DV allegations and rather appears to have been a victim of it. The BBC should’ve focused on the film and his role within it as an actor and not tried to drag up the past which as he say has been dealt with by the court. Goes without saying that a female victim of domestic violence would not have been questioned in this way.
Very much agree. The way they did the line of questioning is more like something an American journalist would do, which is definitely not right. The BBC needs to be above that sort of thing.

He was cleared of it in a specific court, in a specific state in the USA.
When he tried to claim damages from the Sun for labelling him a wife beater, he lost the case, because a UK judge deemed there to be sufficient evidence to label him as such.
So, I guess it depends on who's verdict you think carries more weight, the American state of Virginia, or the national courts of Britain?
Depp also had a great deal of information deliberately repressed during the court case in Virginia.
He's a rotten, stinking old creep, and Heard was the victim.

Your web 'news' article accompanying this is a disgrace. Obviously written by someone who didn't watch the trial, and had no knowledge of the case at all. He won in the US for very good reason; his accuser not only had no evidence of her claims, but there was hard evidence that directly contradicted ALL her claims, and made them impossible to believe. I know because, unlike your reporter, I actually watched it. He was the one who was abused in the relationship - how do I know? Medical records, eye-witnesses, terrible audio recordings where you can hear her hitting him, not to mention prior abuse incidents in her previous relationships. The UK trial dropped the ball and the accuser was allegedly perjurious on the charity pledges/donations issue which was the critical point for turning the UK case to the Sun's favour. The US case subsequently challenged and disproved all her UK trial claims. Do better with this BBC, otherwise that's another licence fee down the pan.

I watched the hearings in the UK and in the US. Obviously it was complicated because Depp and Hurd are complicated. But after watch all of the many days of hearings in the US I was convinced that Amber Hurd was lying viciously, vindictively, with the aim of totally destroying Johnny Depp as perhaps an imagined path to glory, and instead she is now living in a kind of infamy. Depp is a genius, unique, a grand star of cinema as Art, and I am glad to see him back in such a fine role and vehicle. Brava to Maiwenn for casting him. The film looks very interesting indeed and has an amazing cast. I wish Johnny Depp peace and happiness and many worthy future projects. And I add I extremely supportive of #MeToo which has brought needed light to the plight of the abused everywhere.

The BBC and the other Heard the Turd supporters are bitter that she wasn’t involved with the Cannes Film Festival, so they have to mention her. If anybody wants to talk about controversial actors, they should talk about Heard and Ezra Miller. Heard is the one in the recordings who is the only abuser in that marriage. Plus, she is the one who has a history of violence against women, especially her ex-wife, for which she got sent to jail. Johnny never went away and he never will, some sensitive people need to get over it and look for more meaningful things to worry about.
