I support #MeToo with all my heart, but we should move on now and let this marvelous, brilliant actor continue to entertain us at the cinema now and have back some sort of private life. The circus is over and the press needs to raise up its discourse to important issues like Climate Crisis, World Peace, and the like.

Actually, that’s not what happened. Johnny didn’t “speak out about Hollywood boycott,” he was asked a question on the subject by an unprofessional reporter from Variety. Mr. Depp, answered the question saying, “Do I feel boycotted now? No,not at all.”

What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that Depp has never been a "movie star" in the way some seem to imagine. He's not one of those actors who plays the game, who kisses behinds, who does whatever script lands in his lap. Go back through his work and really LOOK at it. This isn't stuff Chris Pratt does, it's not stuff an agent gets for their client after schmoozing with an exec, they're not roles he agrees to do to pay the bills. Depp isn't the kind of "star" who ever needed paparazzi, or drama, or headlines. He was part of a very special breed which includes River Phoenix, Christian Slater, Keanu, Minnie Driver, Winona Ryder... This collection of artists from that era are just built different, they don't think like other actors think. You don't "cancel" an artist like that, because he's built his career on his own terms. He doesn't need this entity called "Hollywood" to continue to create art, because it's always been what he was drawn to regardless of an "industry" that hijacks it. Depp is the kind of actor who just wants to play interesting characters in interesting stories. He can go from playing a Disney pirate in a multi-million $ movie to playing a random character in a no-budget indy film the next week, just because he wants the adventure.
He's an artist before anything else. You can see that in his discomfort when he's being interviewed.
I'm so glad he's doing well. I wish there were more real artists like him.

Everything he said, I echo… I am going to be the guy on the other side being myself, and I could care less what other people think. I’ve always been that way throughout my entire life. By putting yourself in the position to care what other people think about you, is putting yourself essentially on a merry-go-round that never stops. You cannot ever please those who require you to be something you’re not simply to appease them. As they will always find something else, that is wrong, that in their mind needs fixing. Being married to a narcissistic wife for too many years, will teach you that. as Johnny found out and I did.
