ATTENTION all those submitting challenge locks: Please include Gutting Disaster Recovery Document (or image file) This picture of the pinning tray revealing original pin arrangement will help in the case of any freak mishaps while gutting.
That's a fantastic idea. Something with pictures, so that when I inevitably screw up a gutting or drop a couple of pins I can get them back into the right place so we can figure out what the builder intended.
I do believe the joke was that even though there were pins within the lock, they were not needed to be picked. This was sidebar, or if you will sideball technology. Quite clever TJ. As always Bill, a fantastic presentation.
After seeing "the incident with the ball wall", I wholeheartedly sympathise with your nervous approach to gutting this lock. TJ has some terrifying ideas, bravo sir
I'm fairly certain the whole joke of this lock is to prevent you from tensioning it. The mod to the front to make it difficult to top of the key way tension, then the dent in the back is meant to stop the core from rotating with whatever tension tool you used I'd imagine. Thus, no binding pins and no feedback.
This is why I have so much respect for you, Bill, over many similar channels. If you can't get into a lock you say so. None of the ego massaging others go for.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the joke was the lock didn't actually lock. The wallowed out keyway to prevent top of the keyway tension, the ball bearing being held in the core by the screw in the side of the bible could cause enough of a bind on the core to make it feel like it's locked.
I freaking love this video Bill when u gut the look you can here the mixture of confusion and fascination in your voice at the same time it's amazing lol hahaha
hi Bill love the channel. Just started to learn to lock pick and as todays my birthday my gf just got me a training lock and its all down to you . so thank you Bill
Super congtatz to TJ for an awesome display of a brilliant design and precision manufacturing skills! The "Joke" was that I couldn't stop laughing at Bill being so "flustered" + mixing up all the parts -- Fantastic "joke" Mr. TJ
I am sad to see you go but I hope you enjoy stepping away. This video was one that really got me into locksport. I hadn't picked a lock at this point but seeing this locks inner workings really intrigued me. Thank you.
Loved this post. I have never seen a lock with so many crazy pins and gadgets to mess you up. And... You bet I will try to win the giveaway you are offering. Thanks for another great video.
Oh my god. You got that thing completely screwed up by the second pin. This might be the hardest one to watch. By the end of it you have it so wrong I can't even follow it anymore. Love your regular content. Thanks for sharing these.
That was a very interesting lock TJ's. Thanks for sending that in, but for a challenge lock....um no, that was a mission impossible lock. Thank you for the video Bill.
Thanks Bosnianbill Thanks to you and Lockpickinglawyer I decided to buy a set and started picking yesterday (shipment to EU took longer than expected). Love your videos and explanation.
Earlier this week, I finally popped open my Master No. 220. That, for some reason, was a challenge. I must have put over 12 hours into getting it open.
I agree with you tool. It doesn't look like a joke to me!! It's the kind of lock I would actually pay extra for..because this very talented lock picker couldn't pick it!! Isn't THAT exactly what Everyone WANTS to buy?? I don't need to repin it..I will just buy a new one. However, I don't loose keys..I think it would be a great commercial production lock!! If HE doesn't want to patent it, then YOU should!! There is a lot of money laying on that table pal.
Great craftsmanship on that lock, with a lot of time & thought put into it! It would be interesting to find out how many sign up for this weekend's drawing vs. last weekend's drawing. I don't think people were too impressed with those skull picks at $20 each. 🤔
I got completely lost while you were taking the lock apart. Sometimes I notice things you don't notice, but this time, I have no clue where half that stuff came from. Wow, I just realized you hadn't take the pins out of the core yet, geez. Maybe the "joker" part, is to cause complete confusion, if so, it worked on me.
One of my viewers made it about a year ago, but your timing is impeccable! I am in the process of making some very similar ones and if all works out with the CNC machining, will list them on eBay soon.
I bet if you populate the added chamber the cylinder will snag on it to mess with tensioning. It is commonly used in mechanisms to hold moveable parts in place by naturally stopping there but can still be overcome. Clearly TJ is a devious possibly deranged man and I am sure I'd enjoy his company.
You might think that things started going wrong when you didn't notice the three pin fall into the one slot, but I had a feeling things were going to go badly as soon as you chose a pinning tray that wasn't numbered.
agreed. I din't see it as a joke lock, but as a new kind of lock that hasn't shown its vulnerability yet. I would've sent a warning "not pickable by normal methods". It would be neat to have instructions on re-assembly, and shared by pickers to see if it can be opened in some way.
From what I could see, that ball bearing at the end had another indentation in the back so that when you align the dots the ball drops in and you can extract the core. As for the rest of the "joke"... This lock was beyond me.
wow Bill what patience I am afraid that if it was me trying to do this first it would end up in the skip followed by me with my wrists cut not before putting a hit on the sadistic s.o.b who put this evil thing together (very cleaver man) great video you deserve a medal haha
If I were to have made a joke lock.. I'd just fill each cylinder with the thinnest mastering disks I could find.. Very messy.. and about as secure as your average Master lock.. :P
Anytime I see the word joker, I can't help but sing to myself the lyrics to the steve miller band song "the joker." Which seems rather fitting cuz if bill did some "midnight tokin" as the lyrics say maybe he might have laughed at the practical joke lock a little bit more.
lol TJ has you Freaked Out about these Ball Bearings! *Now, THAT'S a Lock!!* The 'Joke' is to see Lock laugh last. =D Perhaps we'll see new Pick coming out soon? How not get Pins to hold ('Non-pickable') ~ Ball Bearings - ? IMAGINE what the GUNS are like ! I always wondered, How the Pins become held when picked, and 'Why the need (except for locked out)? =\ - and springs, used to push back?
If you cannot pick a lock modified by a pistolsmith, does that make the lock fall into the pistol-whipped category?
Carlo Nel correct!
*Groan!*
Ba dum tiss...
Or you could say TJ was "busting his balls"
Depends if his name is PJ or TJ 13:20

Took some time to design that one out! Nice job, I can't believe how smooth it was opening with all the craziness inside!
I'm wondering if the ball at the back was meant to add tension while in the locked position in order to hide feedback.
That's what I was thinking - it would mean you'd need to really turn up the tension on your first (few?) pins
Pretty cool how he leaves you hidden instructions in the crazy lock. 🍺😎
TJ had a ball designing and building that one. You sounded genuinely crestfallen when you looked at the key. Made my day! Thanks Bill.
I freaking love this video Bill when u gut the look you can here the mixture of confusion and fascination in your voice at the same time it's amazing lol hahaha

Loved this post.

Liking before disassembly just because I really look forward to ball bearings rolling everywhere:)
Nice to see people can still surprise you Bill!
That's one ballsy lock from T J lol, very cool lock. Nice picking as always Bill 👍😊
I do like how you corrected your pin placement hehe ✌😎
That was creative to say the least. Awesome
Thanks Bosnianbill
Thanks to you and Lockpickinglawyer I decided to buy a set and started picking yesterday (shipment to EU took longer than expected).
Love your videos and explanation.
I did the same 3 weeks ago.
After 1 week I tried my garage space lock. Raket it in less than 10 seconds.
Bought a new one.
I should change the lock on my shed
What a headache! I'm definitely feeling the giveaway, waaaay better than last week.
What a mind for craftsmanship and wit...even better gunsmith I would fathom to say
Earlier this week, I finally popped open my Master No. 220. That, for some reason, was a challenge. I must have put over 12 hours into getting it open.
Very strange but effective ! just looking at the key you wouldn't think it would be too tough.
That is a really nasty looking key. It looks so simple yet utterly alien to what keys are supposed to look like.
Tj is quite the joker! Lot of balls...
Doesnt it say at 13:20 PJ lock? not like the title TJ???
What an insane lock. Can't say I've ever seen anything like it. But hey, it kept an accomplished picker out so it's fairly effective.
Fantastic giveaway again Mr. Bill, some really great stuff. Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.
Best video ever would be you trying to put the lock back together👍😂😂😂
I thought it was even more interesting that it wasn't so easy and quick like most. 👍
Is the epoxy ball bearing to keep the core locked straight and to deaden the feeling on tension when picking?
What a world we'd live in if this type of design was standard, mental! I think a lot of people would drop their picks for bolt cutters, lol.
@Jarhead Hahaha! :P
I don't get the joke.. If you can't pick it and the key works just fine, how is it a joke lock?
the joke is on the guy who takes it apart
I agree with you tool.

@@garyheaton4791 only if it can be mass produced.
BRILJANT...key is awesome!
Great picking Bill, this kind of locks is what i expect to see when i watch your clips.
I was afraid a really mean practical joke would trigger a flashback from your time in a bomb disposal team.
Lol, I was thinking the same 🤣🤣🤣
Username checks out.
Would love a kit like that. Always wanting to learn new things everyday
Ive been looking everywhere for a Vise like your but i cant find one. Any Idea where I can get one? thanks for your help!
Check the description.
@@bosnianbill cant believe I never noticed that. I'm dumb. Thanks!

I hear you, but my webmaster said that almost 400 people are signed up as of 1800hrs today. I was betting we'd have trouble getting 10!
I have no luck. I'm auto subscribed as a sponsor and I cant even win the shitty skull picks!!
@@bosnianbill, does that 400 include all the LockLab's sponsors that are automatically signed up? 😂
Yes.
Oh my gosh, I've never seen the keyway of a lock, magnified that well before. You could count every scratch in the lock and on each pin, EASILY.
Jay H And that's how insurance companies check if a lock was ever picked.
@@johnfrancisdoe1563Yep. I also have magnifiers, but no where near that good.

Do like the gunsmiths! Put the thing inside a gallon ZipLock and take it apart INSIDE the bag so ya don’t lose parts!
Joke lock: impossible to open to anyone who takes it seriously
that sounds like a neat magical item
Nice pinning tray, where did you get it?

12:55 I am screaming at him to just turn the damn lock upside down and let it fall out
Excellent lock with alot of imagination used to create it. I like the fact it cannot be picked!

I've seen TJs work and its really good... definitely google his name and look up his gun work.
Fantastic lock great job my friend👍😊👍😊😎👌
when a joke lock is highly secure lmao
Great content, thanks BosnianBill
casually pulls out a surgical scalpel like it’s nobody’s business
TJ is a mad man lol awesome lock. Great review Bill ? 🤔
The fail on this gutting reminds me of all my failed attempts.
It's like looking for treasure on a desert island with hidden clues.
I got a headache watching you disassembling this Joker lock,it was tedious work.WOW!
that was a one crazy lock Bill.
Wow Bill beaten twice by TJ and with Master locks as a base! TJ needs to give some lessons to Master locks so they can really be called Master locks
The new joker series would be the least of a joke they put out.
Good looking pick set
Bill, you were rattled even before you stuck the screwdriver into the shackle hole. Good job anyway.
That is one nasty core bitting
Don't worry about "Long" videos, I love them all.
PS, just had great service from UK bumpkeys, fixing an issue, highly recommended!
Very interesting design!
Ooh 😯, ooh 😮 ! Picks n parts. I want!
This TJ has some skills IMO.
Great video Bill.
Wow what a lock great stuff bill
On the surface it seems deceptively simple but those ball bearings really screw with everything
A good design and the other thing is a not made with a very fragile key like some of the designs that are challenges🙂
From what I could see, that ball bearing at the end had another indentation in the back so that when you align the dots the ball drops in and you can extract the core. As for the rest of the "joke"... This lock was beyond me.
I liked the cat at the end.
His name is "Hoggy", and by the size of his appetite and pendulous belly, lives up to his name.
We may have a new concept for a glitter bomb, designed solely for locksmiths.
wow Bill what patience I am afraid that if it was me trying to do this first it would end up in the skip followed by me with my wrists cut not before putting a hit on the sadistic s.o.b who put this evil thing together (very cleaver man) great video you deserve a medal haha
You put Pin 4 in the tray in slot 3 .
Yep, he sure did. Must not watch his own videos.
I think that epoxy screw is for positioning in the lock body
do we have to be subbed for the contest?
I think the joke is the key and the last pin is the only one holding the lock.
I think the ball in the back maybe to hold something in place when assembling and disassembling
That's certainly creative!
I think TJ has a bit of a sadistic streak. :):)
Well, he _does_ make guns...
RWBHere 😑
Complicated beyond belief.. I can see why it is a joke.
Reminds me of my wife's VW.....
Jason Carlson Yet greatly limits the number of different keys.
Meh...look at a linotype machine sometime. Complex used to be what people were amazing at.
I think I've figured it out, sorcery.
Bill , you had a hard time with this one. I do appreciate the video though!
Way beyond me but something to aspire to
13:08 “I’m not seeing why this was so difficult.” 😳
I couldn’t have opened that with the key! 😂

I like the funky key :)
Damn lock has you rattled Bill . I couldn't do any better lol.
Gosh bill. Get it together!!
I'm glad it wasn't me doing the disassembly.
It would've been a disaster.
Seems to me that it's made to prevent tensioning and ward picks. It's just an anti-lockpicker lock.
lol TJ has you Freaked Out about these Ball Bearings! *Now, THAT'S a Lock!!* The 'Joke' is to see Lock laugh last. =D
Perhaps we'll see new Pick coming out soon? How not get Pins to hold ('Non-pickable') ~ Ball Bearings - ?
