  • Which is Best? Dayton Audio PS95-8 or Markaudio CHN-50 or AIYIMA 3" Full Range Drivers. I have tried to put together a short review of all 3. The box sizes do differ though so, you will need to take that into consideration. The driver for the Markaudio CHN-50 was configured to use just the single driver for the review.

    I would have liked to hear the Dayton with bass part in the first track too.
    I suspect the Mark Audio could be a bit cleaner with an enclosure with only one driver (the second one shown here will be acting as a passive radiator).
    At least on my headphones, the Dayton seemed the cleanest, the Mark Audio the best potential. The Aiyima sounded small, partially due to cabinet but also being a budget option.
    I'll probably try out the Mark Audio because I like the engineering decisions. Flatter cone profile and dedicated "tweeter" dustcap for extended and wider response.

      Basically supposed to measure the parameters that the makers actually supply (but on. Individual basis and not generalisation). If you are really then into accurate speaker building then you can use these figures to calculate speaker cabinet size, porting etc to get the best from the driver. Depends on what you do.

    It's really hard to compare speakers in different enclosures IMO. I've built a two different pair of cabinets for Dayton Reference RS100-4 4" full range drivers, the first of which were 12" tall bass reflex design. The other cabinets were 48" tall Folded Voigt Pipe. The small speakers sounded like small speakers and the Voigt pipe ones sounded much larger than they were.

      @DIY-AUDIO  11 місяців тому

      👍

    • @BenHeien
      @BenHeien Місяць тому

      Each speaker needs a specific enclosure to get the best sound out of it, so it’s actually impossible to compare speakers in the same enclosure and get any information about the drivers other than how they sound in that specific box.
      Use a sealed box that gives the driver a qts of .707 and then compare. If you want to just build 1 box, find what driver wants the biggest and build that. Then for testing the others you can use scrap wood placed inside the enclosure to take up the extra space.
      A good enclosure can make a crappy driver sound great, and a bad enclosure can make an incredibly high quality driver sound bad.

    By the time the sound has gone into your mic then compressed by UA-cam and played on my pc speakers there's not much valid judgement can be made. Maybe if the drivers were fitted into an identical enclosure then listeneed to? Or maybe a frequency / amplitude graph of the sound? What is your opinion on the best driver, as you listened to them all in person?

    • @DIY-AUDIO
      @DIY-AUDIO  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Al, thanks for your feedback. The mic is set to highest quality it will go but, as you say everything is compressed. I find listening on my headphones is better! An way, if you like the highs, the 7w markaudio is nice and a very tight sound. But, I reckon with a large box, even the cheap AIYIMA could sound good for the average listener. It's just if you like to have a good finish on your speakers, the Dayton or markaudio may be the way to go as overall, there isn't a lot to my ears difference!!

    The AIYIMA sounded like it was stopped up and had a cold. Of course the box was smaller, how much stuffing did you have in that box? I've seen other comparisons where Markaduio stood head and shoulders above the rest but the Dayton Audio sounded pretty good as well. @DIY-AUDIO I got the same impression. I have thick cardboard tubes that I think will sound great. Not big though, 1.5 l volume just about. I will give it a lot of stuffing to remove all resonance since tubes suffer from that a lot. They are so stiff though that they will not vibrate. And because they are tubes, essentially no baffle.

    The mark audio bring low mid (300-1k approx maybe slightly lower) to the forefront, with another focal point around 5-8k & seem to give overall more mid detail than the others. The Dayton is fairly flat, but gradually dropping 3-5 dB from 1k downward, the aniyma sounds like low mids are down 5+ dB fragile. Do you adjust the microphone height, to match the centre of the driver, and can you please repeat the same portions of the song for each driver, preferably with acoustic section then bass sections in 2 parts = scene 1 music low bass content , speaker A, B, C ... scene 2 bass content Speaker A, B, C just my interpretation, in an ideal world, the speaker box would be designed & tuned (eg winisd) for each speaker, to give the posable low-end responce. But hey I appreciate you going to the effort to produce the videos, & too many keyboard warriors preach & pick on good people like yourself, over trivial insignificant things, I don't see them contributing for the greater good. Thank you again
