Any questions or help just ask!
why you guys always make video in 10% volume and then music in 300% .....
That’s a really good observation, and I have finally obtained a decent microphone so from todays new video and onward should have sorted that issue out. Thanks for the time 🙌🏻
What a thoughtful and beautiful interior layout. One of the best conversions of the Nissan Elgrand I've seen, Love the stealth exterior look too, congrats! I drive a Toyota Vellfire 3.5 V6, love these Japanese mini vans!
Thank you! I too like the Toyota and some other small vans. I’m hoping to have an updated video soon, I have done some updates 🙌🏻
Were you able to rap the wood effect parts of the dash without removing them?
Yes I left it on, was a bit fiddly but managed it. I’m not happy about the difficult bit behind and above the steering wheel but on the whole was ok.
Use another piece underneath the one you are placing so that it doesn’t stick to the car.
Thanks for watching!
That is a really nice build. Elegant looking.
That’s very kind of you to say! Thanks bud 🙌
hey buddy can you make a video on the thule bike carrier... is there any modifications required or is it a plu n play kind of thing and also your review on the stability and general tips on it. that would be great as I am looking to get one soon
These imports are nice but one big down fall is roof bars and tow bars are near impossible to get in the uk . Only reason I sold my import
@@lweleven3423 yeah sadly I agree, you can get the parts you mention, but difficult and expensive
Doesn’t the Elgrand have crappy mileage. I’ve read that it doesn’t have a great MPG. Nice conversion though. Obviously put a lot of work in.
Yeah the MPG isn’t great to be honest, it’s a 250bhp V6 2 tonne van which goes like a sports car, I would say mpg comparable to a long wheel based van to be fair. Anywhere from 18 to 30 mpg
Me personally I love the performance and as I don’t drive that far don’t mind the mpg for the return.
Silky smooth and powerful V6 and the engine roar 😍
If you are buying for mpg then get something else.
Yeah she is my pride and joy 🥰
Thanks for watching 🙌
We just want to know about the vehicle, not what music you like, watched the video without sound
Noted, thanks for watching though 🫶🏻
Can we have some written measurements for benches please?
Yes definitely I will get measuring and let you know 🫶🏻
absolutely love the look and the dash upgrades also the stretch carpet amazing. I will keep the 8 or 7 seats but will deffo be doing all these upgrades including the alloys when I get my hands on a E51. currently in the process of finding a good example and tempted to get one imported myself. in either case I will be in touch when I get one for some pointers and tutorials on your great upgrades. look fabulous
Let me see it when you are done!
noticed you have a 5.1 system, were you left with a few speakers not working with the new head unit?
I installed a 5 channel amp so have all speakers 🙌🏻 it was tricky wiring but a day working on it sorted it
Elgrands always look better in white.
I have to admit they do look good in white! Much easier to keep clean and to polish too.
The tri colour G30 black I have is gorgeous but only when absolutely clean and shiny 👍🏻
Enjoyed your review but lose or turn down drastically the music!
Thanks bud yeah my editing skills weren’t great on that one lol
But please do more content on your fab car, subbed 👍
Well done and informative video your Elgrand looks nice, I have the same bike rack and a Black Elgrand and will spray it black as we use Brompton's I want to use it as a luggage carrier for the awning etc etc, you have also given me some ideas.
+LotusElise
That’s great news! I bet black will look top notch, you must send me a pic when it’s done I may do the same 👌
Is the Elgrand a 4WD or 2WD? How much did it cost for the build? Would you install a pop top?
Ellie is a 2nd 3.5 bud
The build is difficult to cost, the interior I would say was mainly time and effort and perhaps a thousand quid. As for a raised roof, yes defo if you can get one for a good cost 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thanks. Safe travels bud!
@@zumezoom9593 you too 👍
I did the sound proofing also. The roof was rhe hardest due to the double sun roofs.I replaced my carpets in the rear with marine black carpet. I like the new silver rail protectors. That's very very nice. I'd love to use those also. I also considered doing a hard floor while I remove the floor vents. Hard to decide.
Yeah the flooring was hard work and took some time! The silver rails finish it off very nicely
Hi been looking for a similar bike rack for my elgrand. Was wondering what it's fixed with on the top and bottom also does it fix from the sides
Thanks Chris
can you please do a video on that Xtron 19 inch unit, how it was wired up etc, thanks in advance.
Hiya, difficult to show as the wires are all hidden etc not sure how I would explain? I just wired a brand new wire to the unit and used the old frame for the screen by turning it upside down! 😎🤣🤣
Really enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing 😊 All your hard work pays off wonderfully as it looks so smart now and also very practical
Thank you so much for the comments!
She is a beauty and I have done a few more bits since this video too, just can’t stop myself 🤣
What a fab job you have done heaps of great ideas 😁
Thanks 🙏🏻 I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and it’s so good to help inspire other owners 🙌🏻
Fantastic thanks
🙌🏻
Nice compared to my shedmobile E51. I ripped everything out of the back of mine. Seat, rails, trim. All very heavy BTW. Then I put down a floor. Big empty space for maximum versatility. Just chuck in everything I need for whatever I'm doing. Camping, hauling, cycling, canoeing.
When I started my conversion and ripped everything out to start I was so tempted to just insulate and carpet the inside! I can see why you would, so practical 🙌🏻
Nice
Thanks bud 🫶🏻
Some very clever innovations here, mate. I’m turning mine into an off-road adventure camper. Just posted a short video about the suspension if you’re interested. 👍🦘🇦🇺
I will check it out!
Hi bud can you tell me please how good is your Internet I have got the same unit and sim is it reliable and consistent and also fast with good coverage cheers
I’m really impressed with it! For a tiny unit it works really well, I sometimes get a signal on this and not my phone too 🤣
Hey, some great ideas here. Well done and thank you for taking the time to share. Isn’t this exactly what UA-cam is all about? 👍👍👍
Absolutely! 🙌🏻
I agree with you re the bling grille! Mine is white. 👍
Right on!
Very nice and well done.
Thanks Andrew much appreciated. 🙏🏻
Superb conversion totally inspired by what you have done can i ask what dimensions of the plywood boxes you custom made and the size of the table thank you.
Sorry bud not ignoring you will let you know
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic any update on the question would be appreciated thanks
@@relaxingminds6099 I will don’t worry but I’m in Florida at the moment give me a week 🙌
Brilliant! Love the concept of this conversion! How difficult was it to fit the TV by replacing the original? Was it as easy as plug and play ?
It wasn’t quite plug and play, working out the connectors and which did what, then fashioning a bracket from the original too.
If you are not sure then I suggest a pro fit unless you have some basic wiring and diy skills.
Thanks for the view 🙌🏻
Great job , I have the alphard version bet van I’ve ever had and about to have lpg put in which will make a huge difference on running cst
I love the Alphard too and was torn when I bought Ellie
I have just finished a full update and is now even better, video to come soon 🙌
what dashcams ate those please? and how have you wired them? a video would be great on a how to!
They are next base from Halfords I got them to wire them as it was only a small amount extra when you buy them and saved me the hassle 🤣🤣
I like your work and it has inspired me to do a similar conversion, mine have always been remove all seats and install kitchen in front side and fold down bench seat.
Question, do you have a way of opening the rear tailgate from inside the van or can you only open it from outside??
I'm thinking about adding an electric tailgate but it looks a bit tricky.
I open from outside only, but there is an entry point inside that you can fashion with a lever meaning opening from inside is possible
Great video. I have an Elgrand and want to vinyl wrap the wood parts of the dash. How did you remove them? Or did you wrap them without removing them? Thank you
I left it all in pace and took my time using a small heat gun. You can remove but risk of breakage vs the hassle of leaving doesnt make it worth it
Very nice car mate. I have an elgrand too and got some nice and smart ideas from yours. Thank you. Nice video
Thanks bud, have done more too so a new vid soon!
Absolute quality
Thanks Dale 🙌🏻
I love my Elgrand! Wathing this makes me want to go and explore
Thanks for watching, and if this has inspired you that makes me really happy 😃 don’t hang around the world is waiting 🫶🏻
Hi, I’m a new Elgrand (Elvis) 2.5 V51 owner. I’ve joined EOC. Can you please do a video featuring all the features of your drop-down screen, inputs & remotes? I’m sure I have the same one, but my dog has chewed the small white remote, so I don’t know how to use it. I don’t have any technical skills, so would greatly appreciate any advice you may be able to give me about oil, servicing, parts etc. I’ve arranged LPG conversion & under-seal is pending. I’ve subscribed to your channel & look forward to more Elgrand videos & adventures. Many thanks for your great & informative videos & any advice you may be able to provide. Kind regards. Jim from Glasgow. 🕺🏼😎🚐
This might help!

@@ADoubleGymAndTonic That’s GREAT! Many thanks! 🙏
Hi what wheels are on your van they look fantastic cheers
Here you go basewheels.com/70581-msw-sahara-5-wheels-gloss-black-machined-18-inch-8j-et40-5x127
Have you done anything on the pain work it looks very clean and shiny and new...
Just a full compound polish all over and a wax, as you may know black G30 needs cleaning and waxing almost daily 🤣🤣😳
Great van! Looking to buy one….do you want to ever sell it!?!?😂❤
Bless you, have you seen my latest van tour from last week, where she is almost finished?! 😎
This is what I would like to do to ours. This is what I would call a soft conversion and linked up to a really big drive away awning would make the most awesome space for holidays and as it is days out. Well done you, I’m quite jealous 😂 Ours is due from Vine shortly so will have plans for it!
+Evolve Office Ltd
Yes it’s such a great use of the space!
The van is never big enough for a full blown camping trip really but as a day or two is fine, with an awning or tents is amazing 🙌
+Evolve Office Ltd
Let me know how you get on! Would love to see pics too 👍🏻
What a conversion! This is exactly what we are looking to do with ours. Thanks you for this very informative video.
Thanks 🙏🏻 I really enjoyed doing it too! You must show me when you are done ✅
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic , it’s going to be next year, but before the summer.
How did you find the strip out? Clips n trim? Did you break any when running the cables? Did you take it back to the bare shell?
I was really nervous to be honest and you are right to ask!
Having never really done anything in the interior of a vehicle previously, save fitting a cheap stereo in an Audi TT, had to learn from doing it.
Many of the fittings came off with a bit of persuasion, some easier than others and yes the odd one did break, mainly the little single pointed clips on the foot steps, I bought a giant bumper pack of various replacement clips off eBay which many did work, some with a slight trim here and there.
I did take it right back to the bare metal all over the inside and was pretty petrified staring at the metal work.
Nearly all went back on, replaced some, the odd one did break but as there are so many on each plastic panel you wouldn't notice to be honest.
I have yet to remove and sound proof the side doors as I'm too nervous to remove those panels as they are not obvious of how to remove, I am told just pull them after removing the interior handle.... I will have a go at some point. Have you removed the sliding door panels?
Thanks for watching, hope this helps.
Subscribe so you don't miss any new videos :-)
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic hi. No. Only did a small trim removal at rear as the middle sun roof had a blocked pipe. Only picked up the elgrand at the weekend. So currently in the process of mapping / planning the electrical system. Using yours for inspiration.
But same. Once all arrived. Next job will be complete rip out. Dreading it a little haha.
Thanks for the information.
Fantastic nice one thanks for sharing, lovely.
Thank you for watching 🙌🏻
What a great job. This is something that I would want to do if I got the Elgrand.
I’ve actually put a deposit on one. But the interest I just got on HP WAS LIKE £7000. So I may be stepping back from it.
But yes I love this car, and what a great job you have done…
Thank you so much ☺️
Yeah that interest sounds very high!
I have enjoyed the build so much and am now enjoying using her.
Let me know if you do one I love seeing others 🙌
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic okay I will do.. thanks… and enjoy 👍 🥃
Wow,you've done a great job
@@paulfallon181 thanks bud !
done a cracking, neat job there mate!
@@s1dew1nd3r4 thanks bud! 🙌🏻
Thats not near the Vyne in Bramley is it??
@@nathb18 well spotted! 👍🏻
Hiya! Love the work you've put in, looks factory! The swinging table is ace. I'd love something like that between the standard middle and third row seats but can't work out what table is best or whether to go from the floor or the side of the van.
Can I ask, the usb charging hub you have in the rear from the 100v socket - what is it please? Just ordering a dash clock on Ali express (Amazon are cheeky and want nearly £30 for them!), So wondered if I can get a charger too, but can't work out what I'm searching for 😂
Lovely work! How has it been since you made the vid? Any additions? If you can, would love you to talk the wiring and electric set up through. Two leisure batts, charge from car battery etc
You must have run wires around a fair bit? What's the best routing?
@@richardcowtan6848 thanks so much! I have done quite a few update videos! Click on my channel and you can see there are quite a few updates to the van 🤣
I have since updated the entire electrics and some other changes. Take a look!
Ok will do. I had a question about the sound deadening. Presume the car wasn't too bad before.. Did it make a big difference? You must have taken most panels off to do that? Was the car bonnet one anything special because of the heat?
@@richardcowtan6848 yes I took every single panel off 🤣 I suppose it made a slight difference but if I did it again would not bother with all of that. I did the bonnet only because I had some left over and thought why not! I’m not sure it does much to be honest. I guess all together it is slightly quieter as I did the entire floor which also reflects the heat back in. I also where possible put recycled bottle insulation behind the removed panels. The van is always warm and stays that way so must have made a bit of a difference all together.
Excellent build and looks to be to a great standard!
Thanks Tom, and for the follow too 🙌🏻
Top job mate looks the business! ;)
+iDesignyou... thanks 🙏🏻 Glad you liked it
Love the video - and congrats on the van - it's stunning. We've just bought an Elgrand and are looking to get a bike rack. Did you have to do any drilling of the van or modification of your bike rack to make it fit? Any help much appreciated. All the best
No drilling or mods required. The Thule bike rack is very rare now and you need a certain metal bracket for the bottom bit where it joins the underside of the boot
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thule-Backpac-973-Bicycle-Rack-Nissan-Elgrand-E51-Specific-Brackets-973-JW01-/274766802703?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thanks - that's a huge help. I'll search that out. So did you buy the Thule 973 backpak and those lower brackets and that was it? Anything additional needed for attaching up top, over the spoiler?
Yeah mine came with them 973 rack pack 18 for the spoiler
I really liked ur set up and the colour of the car the inside and outside, the wheels. This would be my template to do with an LPG conversion. Well done!
Thanks so much, yeah it’s a great colour are you going to get one? 🙌🏻
Im contemplating of a ford custom or an elgrand and do it myself. Hope to see ur van in real life im in Leicestershire.
Both are a great choice, although the Elgrand engine is Devine! I’m down in the far south of England
Very nice if you can afford the fuel that thing guzzles 😂
Pahaha you are not wrong! She loves her juice 😅
Mine is a guzzler too!! BUT I’m not spending on a holiday abroad, air tickets etc, etc. So putting that money in for fuel for days I love out and about is no different than the annual cost of a holiday abroad.
It’s not my everyday car.
Love this. I just purchased an E51 last weekend. Looking to get an english manual, upgrade the headunit to utilise all the functions, radio/satnav/bluetooth etc. Do you where I could get these from?
I'm looking to buy one after watching a number of videos on here. Where did you purchase yours and any advice you could give?
Hiya,
Thanks for watching and great choice of van!
Its probably best to follow a facebook group - there are some great ones - Elgrand OC and lots of other who answer many of these questions as well as covering loads of topics you will find useful.
I follow quite a few and although some rubbish content - lots of really good stuff!
I would say - look for a good dealer with a good rep
Ensure you get verified BIMTA certified mileage.
Be happy with it! If spending a lot of cash then consider using AA vehicle check as they do a great job, the RAC do a similar service.
Join the Facebook groups for Elgrands there are loads 👌🏻
I have just replaced the whole lot with various units and ripped out the whole Nissan stuff
Unreal! Love it! I’ll be getting one of those bike racks!
Great van nice job quality !! Can you tell me please is your internet wired in or do you charge when needed I just bought one and wondering which way to go
The 4g router is wired so although I charges and can be used for up to six hours without being turned on or connected I still have the option from either the car or leisure battery to charge it 👍
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic sorry to appear thick this is wired to where is it the switch by the sliding door pillar and where did you pick up the power for the switch also what did you attach the router with please thanks for replying
Yes from the switch on the door pillar - this power was from an existing supply already connected to a TV transmitter I removed under the drivers seat so was perfect.
I used Velcro stuck one side to the window and the back of the router 👌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic last question I promise is there anyway you can leave it switched on on a live feed constantly or is it dangerous as you can tell I’m not a electrical genius living on the isle of wiget it so expensive to get things done
I would never leave anything switched on all the time. It charges when I drive and can be used for up to six hours on that charge. I can switch it on when I choose to recharge the internal battery. My advice is don’t leave it connected live all the time, but that’s a personal choice. If it’s a live only connection just put a switch in so you can turn it off 👌🏻
Who fitted your xtrons tv? I am finding difficult for someone to.fit it, can you help me?
@@paulcuttill5121 I fit mine, myself. I did try and get quotes but they were into the hundreds! 4 to 5 hundred! So I did it myself. Took me a couple of days, but worked it out.
I removed the old one first. Then using the original bracket turned it upside down and it connected to the kit with the Xytrons. I can’t remember exactly but it came together ok 👌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thank you for replying oh wow, I have no experience with electrics so I might find it too much for me. Is yours connected to the leisure battery too?
@@paulcuttill5121 no I used the connection that was on the ETC from Japan, the traffic thing that spoke, disconnected that and used the switched live feed to the normal engine battery via this fused connection. I just cut and taped off the original wires it was too complicated to use them. I suppose it would have been easier as you say to wire to the leisure battery!
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thanks for the info I will see if i can find somewhere to get a quote. Really appreciate your help. Hopefully I can get it done 👍
@@paulcuttill5121 yeah good luck bud 🙌🏻
Awesome build! Can I ask you about that bike rack more specifically? Did you just use the factory VW fitting kit, or have to make some special adjustments to the mounts? Are you able to do a video on how to fit that bike rack on please? Thanks a million in advance.
Its not a VW rack, its a very rare backpack with bespoke fittings which I found on ebay!
This so kool love it
Thanks bud 🙌🏻
Great idea looks really good
Just wondering how you fixed your floor down with
Thanks Chris
Thanks for the view bud, I just used a no more nails type adhesive blobbed here and there and didn’t screw through the floor at all.
It has worked a treat!
simply amazing
Thanks 🙏🏻 🙌🏻
your new xtron drop down screen...where did you get it and how is connected to the origional cabling from the old dropdown screen ?...thanks
The screen direct from xtrons and I rewired it so didn’t use any of the original cable
How did u underseal it? I have a daddy 1998 e50....i love it....mint underneath and sealed it myself....
Hiya Paul, I used Hendy Performance in Southampton who did a cracking job
did you need any extra brackets for the drop down xtron screen. looking at doing this myslef
I took the existing one off the old screen, turned it upside down and fixed it to the xtrons and hey presto!
Spraying the grill black is a must on a black elgrand imo, the chrome makes it look either like a hearse or a Chrysler. Vinyl over the wood too 👍👍. I prefer black leather but that cream makes it bright inside
+slabby rider hiya, yeah agreed the grill was so bling! Had to get rid of that. I did prefer black leather and normally would, but the cream as you said is bright as well as looks slightly posher 🤣🤣 like a high end Range Rover
Thanks for the view 👌
Great conversion, looking to change my roof mounted dvd myself, out of interest how hard was it to change over
The difficult part is making a bracket for the new dvd, I used the old one upside down along with the new parts of the new screen.
The other issue may come from speakers, use an as battery on the twin wires one each end to ID each speaker, or like I did use a screen that uses FM mode to send the sound via your radio to the stereo
Is the front screen redundant now that you have the double din. I have the 5.1 and have been toying with the idea of replacing the radio but it seems costly on this model
+James Denton no it still does both cameras and any warning along with the climate control settings 👍🏻
Fantastic job ! im jelouse so much - i dream about Elgrand for so long time. Happy jurneys and maybe one day see you
Thanks buddy 🙌🏻
What size are the wheels?
Did you wrap the whole car?
How did get the carpet down?
The wheels are 18’s
The car is not wrapped on the outside at all
Not sure what you mean about the carpet?
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic hi, thanks for the reply.
The front carpet is what I meant, sorry if I wasn't clear, I am going with lino flooring, from the 2 front seats to the back, was thinking of wood flooring, however with young kids that might not be a good idea....
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic where do you get your engine car parts from, I tried to input the reg on euro car parts with no joy.
I used four way stretch carpet spray glued direct to the original front carpet. I just removed it all in one piece and glued it then replaced. Lino sounds great!
I keep getting back to this van conversion video as I just got a 2008 Vellfire and we're in the process of thinking about options for making it a camping machine. Fantastic work on your car and lovely conversion, looks stunning!
You are so kind thank you!
I have since upgraded her even more 🤣🤣
New video coming soon.
What have you done to yours?
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic looking forward to that video then! Mine has nothing on it so far, currently on planning stages. Already got a bike rack and ordered roof bars from Japan because they are impossible to find in the UK. Might stick a rooftop tent on them and make a living arrangement above the car, so we can use the inside for other stuff
A very smart vehicle, like the additional blacking, really suits. Ideal day van and everything a sensible use of space. Just a question please, are you running more than one leisure battery and if so, are they on one split charge relay? Interested how you wired this please. Thanks.
+beaufighter245 hiya, I am using one 40 amp split charge relay and two 75 amp hour batteries in series 🙏🏻

Cheers bud, yeah I defo agree👍
Hiya. Amazing example of an Elgrand and all the work you have put in to make it what it is. Well done to you.
Seriously thinking of investing after doing research and watching your vids.
Do you have any advice prior to committing to buy ? Another question that not many utubers talk about is engine reliability ,consumables and parts availability and also working on.
If you could advise I would greatly appreciate it, as I imagine you must have had the same reservations before buying yourself.
Ps- Nissan looks stunning, only hopes she drives the same.
Hey, thanks for watching 🙌🏻
I bought this initially as I don’t like following the expensive VDub crowd, wanted something different and just love a powerful smooth engine. This ticks all of those. I just love the look, amazing drive and value for money.
Of course parts will be harder to source, once you find some great suppliers then it’s pretty good.
The around town mikes to gallon are awful, the longer runs almost double.
If you want economy then don’t get one, as for being reliable they are like any other car, keep them serviced and maintained to get the best out of the.
I have never struggled to find parts, nor are they expensive.
Join some Elgrand Facebook groups there are loads, these help a lot, although have a lot of negative people too, just weed those out.
I have done a load more upgrades and will post a new video or two in the coming weeks, I just can’t get enough of the van, it’s like a love affair.
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic Thanks for reply DG & T.
Thanks for your view point and experience with the Elgrand and working on her.
I think that you have convinced me to commit and buy one possibly as early as tomorrow morning as I viewed one Saturday and was not disappointed.
2006 registered in 2007 with 66, 000 on the clock and very clean. Abit nervous but I'm sure we will enjoy and embrace the experience.
fully aware of fuel consumption but would not use it as primary vehicle for work so shouldn't be a problem.
Look forward to your new posts on utube and picking up more tips that you share.
I have to say that I roared out LAUGHING when you said about, more like a love affair, still laughing now. Haha, not so sure how the wifes going to take it with a third party in our relationship ! Haha
Thanks once again for advice.
Will let you know how I get on, with the Elgrand and the Wife !
@@paynedavid5664 great news! Sounds like you have a plan 👍
My wife loves the Elgrand , I wasn’t sure either at first.
Good luck!
Hi I'm interested in the bike holder and installation as haven't seen one for Elgrand before. Thanks in advance.
Hiya, it’s a Thule model which is no longer made and sadly very difficult to source now.
EBay sometimes has the odd one though
I think its a 973
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thank you and by the way love your Camper. Is the rack specifically for the Elgrand? I'd really love to get one.
Fantastic job. Have fitted the xtrons to my Elgrand. In the process of swapping out the non working 100v/ 100w Japanese plug for a 2 x USB rocker type switch. I can't locate the invevertor, it's not behind the panel. My plan was to to cut the 12v wire and run the USB directly off this, bypassing the 12v - 100v invertor. Do you have any advice please?
Hmmm, I just used. Japanese plug with a USB port on the adapter and then into a double powered USB. If you do that may as well wire up a brand new power source?
Thanks for responding. If no joy at the auto electricians will splice the power from the 12v cigarette lighter feeding the rear.. Found a Toyota USB rocker style switch with 2x USB ports on amazon which fits the dimensions of the current 100v/100w acc output.

Absolutely love what you've done, don't suppose you put together any guides for the stuff you've done have you? I'm interested in the leasure battery side and drop down screen replacement in particular
No bud I wish I had recorded as I went now! The only thing I could do would be a walk, talk through using my own Elgrand and the pictures I took along the way?
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic that would be really handy but no rush, only do it if its something you'd enjoy doing! 😁
Your car is immaculate mate… nice job
Thanks bud! She has been a labour of love ❤️
Are the bench boxes screwed to the sides of the van or just to the floor you put in? I am thinking about leaving the carpet as it all is but it might look a bit weird once I take the back seats out. I am nervous about drilling holes in the van but I suppose I just need to bite the bullet!
Also, what thickness is the plywood you used? I know the laminated furniture board stuff it 15mm but it's hard to get that locally, 12mm or 18mm is available. I was thinking 12mm structural might do the job and keep the weight down?
The ply is 12mm and is very rigid I wouldn’t go any thicker.
I didn’t screw into the floor and I first used ply on the floor to screw into.
The benches are only screwed into the ply flooring not the sides 👍
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thanks for this. I am going to go with 12mm and save some weight then. I was going to leave the carpet in but now I think I will go same route as you. I am thinking of taking up car/camper upholstery if I can find an industrial sewing machine at the right price...
so your wrap to cover the wood grain....where did you obtain it and did you wrap it in situ or strip the dash ?
Wrapped in situ just took it slow and worked out great!
This is one of my next jobs I think
Nice video, and nice work too. Like it
Thanks Stew 🙌🏻
Nice Job, not overly done, 👍
+BrightAndAmazing thanks 🙏🏻
I am doing my conversion like yours but have got stuck trying to find the rails you used to support the table top when in the bed position. I run out of ideas of what to search for! Can you remember where you got them please?
I just used two strips of wood bought from b and q
They are edging strips for wooden floors 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic I thought they were black plastic rails like the type you get for drawers! I might have to use strips of plywood covered in carpet due to time constraints for now as we are going away in it at the weekend! It's not finished but should be manageable! thanks
@@michaelpalmer2192 no worries I would love to see it!
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic I will send you some photos when it is done. I have used the side bolts from the rear seats to hold the boxes whixch seems to work but just hoping it hasn't made the top too high. I am not too bothered though as my other half is shorter than me and has lots of headroom still and I am happy sitting on a captains seat with my feet up!
thats awesome conversion
Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi, your Elgrand is very nice, i have just purchased a Rider S Autech in white. I was wondering about your rear cycle rack. I contacted Thule and they said that they do not make one for an Elgrand. Can i ask what parts you used and how you got it to fit so well to the tailgate?
Thule used to do one that with particular top connectors and after market bottom brackets would fit, this is the one I have. You sadly can’t buy either any more and the one I purchased was from Germany. Strangely as I don’t really use it much I am going to sell mine, it’s in perfect almost new condition if you were interested. You would need to be local ish as postage might be expensive. If not just look around they do come up for sale every now and again.
Thanks for the view 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic Ah that's what i thought. Where are you based and how much would you want?
@@seanmyhill7129 I am Hampshire based
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic Ah a fair way away from me then. I guess if you dismantle it maybe postage would be cheaper?
@@seanmyhill7129 I guess it does come apart.
I have the Thule rack, an extra carrier making 3 cycles.
The top and bottom brackets.
The anti theft locking brackets.
Locking cycle holders.
All in perfect condition as I’ve never actually carried any bikes lol
I would sell for £350
Postage would need to be negotiated.
The actual cost to purchase was nearly 150 quid more than that as I had import taxes from Germany.
Was keen to see how you set up the bed did I miss that part
Sorry bud I didn’t do that in detail, I will now though give me a day or two 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic that would be great thanks mate!
Really nicely done!
Thank you!
I have been busy with some more big changes, video to come soon!
Great work, purchasing one myself shortly
+IronMountainX thanks bud! Are you going to keep original or convert in some way?
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic going to convert to a camper. Out of interest did you manage to wrap the wood effect dash trim with it in situ, or did you have to remove it to do so. Like you am not a fan of wood trim in vehicles!
@@IronMountainx I did it in situ using a light heat gun and plastic tools to push and prod it bud
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic 👍
Forgot to ask before - is this 2wd or 4wd? Thanks!
Two wheel
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic great! Any issues on grass, sand or mud given the weight? We are a bit nervous with the 2wd...
I e had her on grass, mud, sand and she is faultless. The diff lock or snow setting works a treat too
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic thanks, that's good to know!
Thoroughly impressed with your set-up - top job! I am now looking at doing mine like this as I think it will feel more spacious than the standard rear conversion and I like the idea of sitting inside with trhe tailgate open with a clear view out the back. I also like the bigger bench seats and bigger table. I don't think we would use a sink much (friends have had a vw camper for years and never used the sink!) And I think an electric hook up with an induction hob you just plug in will be nicer than using a gas hob anyway. If we can get a kettle to work off leisure batteries we will be happy anyway! Lots to think about. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to do this video.
Thanks Michael, I was like you and couldn’t see the benefit of following the crowd. This design as you say really does give you a bit more freedom and space, and yes the tailgate being open at the beach etc is amazing. I wouldn’t have it any other way now. Let me see what you do 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic Thanks for your reply. The main part that gets me stressed is the electrics although I have found out you can get plug and play kits which look pretty simple. I think I would go for an electric hook up but I would like to be able to charge the vehicle and leisure batteries through the EHU - I think you need a charge sergeant? Anyway, I am going to get planning as I need this usable by April! Good luck with your 5K a day! I am off for a run now...
@@michaelpalmer2192 enjoy your run!
If I did this again I would likely use something like a Jackery just to simplify it and enable a bit more flexibility with the batteries.
Keep me updated, and I am quite enjoying the 5k a day at the moment! More test it’s for a worthy cause 🙌🏻
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic I am thinking a jackery or similar and a straightforward electric hook up might be the way. Just need to work out how big it would need to be to boil a kettle a few times! All the best
What a brilliant job . Awesome 👏
Thanks bud 🙏🏻 do you have an Elgrand?
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic I’m actually going to look at one tomorrow so your video has been brilliant to see it’s a 2005 3.5v6. With 88 thousand Miles on clock . B
@@nflbtc great news I wish you well let me know how it goes 🙌
@@ADoubleGymAndTonic I will do mate . Has 1 electric sliding door needing fixed but that apart seems in good nick .
Great conversation you have given me a few ideas 🤔 how do you support and keep the extra bit of the bed I assume there must be something the bed only looks about 4ft .I looked at these amazing vehicles, I held back just couldn’t take on the running cost of a 3.5 as nice as it would have been. I went for a Honda Stepwagon . 2.0
The top part where the table sits is for the top of your body and the legs go over the folded down middle row captain seats so no need for another bit in in fill as when you lie down the boxes are wide enough and feet only on the seats folded 👍🏻
Great job…..well done!👍
Thanks 🙏🏻 it’s been a proper labour of love
