I love how focused Toei Sonic is so focused, yet he still takes time to admire, like when the death egg explodes. Quite beautiful how those two aspects of him contradict one another, isn't it? Just makes the character that much better.
Junio Sonic is, in my opinion one of the best designs of sonic, not cocky, just FOCUSED in the mission of saving little planet and that is simply amazing

Definitely one of my favorite versions of Sonic. The same animations also holds one of my favorite metal sonic designs, toei metal, who I feel isn’t talked about as much, I absolutely adore how different it is to a traditional classic metal sonic design. I really don’t know why, but I just love the overall design of him in that animation and his reference sheet. Definitely one of my favorites, along with the OVA’s very own “Hyper Metal Sonic.”
I love these 'where were you?' moments. I first discovered Sonic the very year it came out. It launched in June 1991 and I saw it in a game demo at the store that fall. I loved it and begged my mom to let me play it in the electronics department while she shopped. Needless to say, my Dad brought sonic and a Genesis system home with him that Christmas. I bought every game Sega pumped out and started collecting the comics in 1993.

I remember buying sonic cd on mobile one day when i was around 8, i wasnt too good at the game then, however, the intro was an absolute treat for me! The way he looked was so cute and cool at the same time, and the way he was animated truly gave him that 90s aesthetic cool vibe to me. I actually kinda found that style the same way, tho my dad game me a copy of sonic cd he played as a teen instead of finding it at a church building. It truly gives out his personality in every way

I’ll ALWAYS remember when I first came upon this animation. 7 years old, exploring Sonic World in Sonic Jam for Sega Saturn. I was still a newly minted Sonic fan at this point. Only having just discovered Sonic the prior fall at my babysitters before starting kindergarten. I was in absolute awe over all the things I was discovering in that game. Sonic stuff I had never even known of, as this was in 1997, well before the internet age. I still remember pouring hours and hours in the theater that was in Sonic World, watching all the little trailers, videos, etc over and over. This Sonic CD intro is the one that I always come back to. I’m a huge fan of anime now at 33 years old. I didn’t even know at the time but this animation was my first exposure to the medium. I was just so struck by how it looked, how it moved and how fast Sonic felt. It just felt much different from playing Sonic the Hedgehog off that 6 pack Genesis cartridge. It still sticks with me now here in 2024 as a full ass adult. It still gives me those same feelings now as it did when I was a kid. For that, I’ll always appreciate it.

Seeing Toei Sonic for the first time is honestly a very great experience just seeing him bounce around in nature with the bright background and good music brings out the feeling that you’re in for something fast although it’s not that fast due to the level design
I will always call it Toei Sonic, since I’m used to that more but it’s definitely my number one favorite Sonic style. He gives off this badass blue menacing look that inspires kids being way past cool.
I remember when i was little, i wanted to go to our cousin's house because they had a playstation 3 with minecraft (also that's how i also grew into minecraft) we were there and it was a special day bc me and my dad could spend the night over. It was evening and i wanted to watch a movie on my cousin's computer, my dad was searching from youtube anything that could get my attention, and there it was "Sonic ova 1999" my dad thought that this was good enough. No. It was the BEST, from there i started to slowly get into sonic media also loving the junio sonic.
For those interested there was an archie sonic comic called Sonic Megadrive which uses the Toei sonic design while also applying it to tails and knuckles. It’s a great read and perfectly captures the expressiveness of ten character.
Of all the iconic moments in the Sonic CD opening, the one that I think sums up Sonic's character for me is when he's standing heroically on top of the mountain looking at Little Planet all chained up whilst the camera does a 180 degrees turn and then zooms out to show the entirety of the Never Lake. If you've read or seen the Hobbit, one of the last things Gandalf says to Bilbo Baggins is that he's only quite a little fellow in a wide world, which is what Sonic is within that moment on the mountain top. He's only a small hedgehog but you can tell from the serious look on his face that he has a big heart and knows seeing Little Planet chained up just isn't right before jumping off and launching himself up to Little Planet to start the adventure of Sonic CD to make things right again. I'd also say when Sonic jumps down from the mountain top, he's letting his heart and courage guide him which is what makes Sonic a good role model.
Tbh i personally draw every day of junio Sonic, which makes me finish like 30 minutes it really helps me motivated every time it has the most simplest sonic design i have ever seen
Eggman boss track anxiety inducing? Yeah, right. The drowning sound effect wants to have a chat with you in that dark alley. It's totally not going to put a bullet between your eyes behind a dumpster.

Exactly. Goku from Dragon Ball and Toei Sonic are so similar. The sonic storyline is based off Dragon Ball. Sonic and Goku are one and the same, Sonic's smarter than Goku, but they're basically the same character.
Toei Sonic is also the true Sonic for me. He's more focused, we don't hear him speak even once which adds mystery to his character, and although his face (more specifically his eyebrows) takes a frown we see him smile every here and there, acknowledging his own coolness in his ability to so swiftly take down one of robotnik's robots with no problem.
Woah now! Hang on: Satam Sonic was just as cool. In fact, in the OVA i dare say I found the dub made him seem much more of a dork. Just me though. I would rather that Sonic than...whatever he is now and I can't wait for Sonic Freedom! :)

I wonder what it was like to figure out about sonic at the age of 5. As long as I can remember I've known sonic. I was born in 2011 so I have grown up with sonic boom, and sonic underground DVDs. It wasn't until I was 3 or 4 that I actually played sonic games. And my brother told me everything about almost anything, so I learned most stuff from him. Five Nights at Freddy's? Him. Sonic? Him. Undertale? Dan The Man? Any other popular thing that gen z engaged with???!!! Him! He's an introvert now, so things are ALOT different. But sonic is awesome
Toei sonic is my favourite sonic design. He looks clean,cute,serious and just down right epic. His design is very detailed and I'm glad he was in the sonic mania intro/ending and sonic mania adventures and sonic the hedgehog OVA movie. His design is incredible and I hope sega makes a 2d pixel version of toei sonic so we can play as him. The design is so underrated but so clean and good
Omg is the CD of Sonic Cd clear or did it have a white matte finish as the background? My dad gave me the clear one and it shattered in pieces! I can't even find that cd ever again on the internet. No one even knew it existed. Made me so sad that my copy was broken in pieces, otherwise I would have shown it off.
