It would be easy for me to say yes but I think it’s circumstantial. It’s a fantastic tool, sounds great and feels great to play. If you are someone that has a few valve amps they love and can play them at the volumes they want for live or practicing, I’m not sure you would really gain much. I still gig valve amps for pub gigs and dep gigs all the time because to me, it’s a more suitable solution to that situation. I can get my hands on any settings in a second, no menus, no fuss. I wanted a Kemper for ages but couldn’t justify the expense and wasn’t willing to sell my amps to get one. Then I landed a new gig that meant playing theatres & festivals, band on IEM, front of house engineer and had to cover a lot of ground. The Kemper fit the bill perfectly. It’s the consistency night to night and the reliability factor that really seals to the deal. I use it extensively now for recording too. The ease of having limitless amps, mics and cabs ready to go if you wanted it just makes getting what I’m hearing down as quick as possible. If I know exactly what I want ahead of time, I still go to an amp because it does that ‘thing’ I’m looking for but the Kemper can get 90-95% there in most cases and in some you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Sorry, bit of a long reply 😂
No apologies for strings and playing 😒. You were a bit too down on the much awaited update. It cracks me up how horribly SPOILED we are as musicians and our gear goes. I thought you offered a good demo of the new drives. It’s crazy how Kemper users have squeezed so much out of the green scream and the soft shaper. This update offers so much. I’m grateful I’m a Kemper user. Thanks so much Christoph Kemper. I use a compressor or a Kingtone drive pedal in front turing on and off for some EXTRA OR MORE moments. They were pricey hardware options. I love em. Christoph gave us all an early Christmas present.
Regardless of how you use the Kemper, it’s effects capabilities just get better and seem a little overlooked. There’s v little I can’t do on the Kemper that I was doing on a bunch of Eventide and Strymon units with the notable exception of the Strymon Deco. Great piece of kit. I bought a Helix and thought the effects were naff. Sold it.
Glad I stumbled back across your channel and and this time subscribed! I've only had my Kemper and Remote a little over two months now. I really like how you methodically go through the controls and most importantly (to me), you play pretty much the same licks as you make the changes. There's some talented people on UA-cam but their gear reviews and tests are inconsistent compared to yours. Well done and thank you from Orlando, Florida!
Cheers mate! I do my best to stay consistent so you guys have a frame of reference when changing settings but it is easy to get carried away at times 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Dan, I've been waiting for Kemper to do this for ages, I think these drives will be more to my liking. I've been using my Wampler Euphoria into the front of my Kemper but prefer getting my tones without the extra cables and noise. Excellent demo as always.
This should do the trick with a bit of tweaking mate! Because the Euphoria has a pre bass control too, the definition control works similarly, just backwards!

Sounds like there’s a lot of inspiration to be had from these new pedals already! Opens up a lot of possibilities for me. Very nice first walkthrough 👍👍 By the way, really enjoyed your Kemper Pack! Hope your channel will grow🤘 Keep ‘m coming thanks!
I tend to leave my output EQ pretty flat. I often boost the Treble & Presence slightly if I’m playing at low volumes or recording to go into a full band mix. This is just direct in with no processing.
I join those who subscribed to your channel with gratitude! You are a great fellow and a wonderful guitarist! Your videos are very helpful. Go on, bro! :) My hand to you! ..
You are absolutely right sir, this is just a habit I seem to have developed 😂 Too much time video editing I think! To be honest I’m not that experienced with Rig Manager, when I first got my Kemper you couldn’t use rig manager to edit patches so I just got used to doing it on the unit itself. After doing this video though I can see how handy it is. Especially if I didn’t waste time dragging things all the time 😂😂 Thanks for watching!
@@DanLeggatt also another useful tip when you are browsing thru a long list of rigs looking for the perfect profile (some packs have hundreds of them) you can use up or down arrows on the keyboard to move from one to the next and THEN use left or right arrow to load the one you want. Or if you just use right or left arrows it will autoload each one of them while you browse up and down the list. I tend to lock the effect and stomps modules while I do this to even the field (even some times I lock the Cab module also)
I'm NOT saying the drive pedals don't have very different sounds but I think Kemper is showing us that the differences are pretty fundamental. How hard to does it hit and what frequencies are you focusing on boosting/cutting. Very simple really.
Good point. As I said in the video, things like the TS & SD are very close in real life. The main difference is symmetrical & asymmetrical clipping which I don’t feel like the Kemper drive presets change or emulates. I think they probably sound in the ballpark of their hardware counterparts but they don’t feel all that different to play. The hardware versions definitely do to me. This is a massive upgrade to the Kemper for sure and I’ve been using the Kemper drive especially for boosting profiles. To my personal use I only love a few settings but for others it could be the ‘be all, end all’ drive for them. It’s all personal preference. Thanks for watching 👍
Man, this sounds killer! Do you know which pack the MBritt profile is from? I have the 67 Luxe from MBritt but it's not labeled the same as yours, or maybe you changed the name?
I actually can’t remember the pack, i just have a big list in rig manager now. I could of changed the name to be honest. My Kemper had some profiles on it when I bought it too so could be an older profile. I think Britt has changed some of the names too, possibly for copyright reasons. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Hi Dan! Awesome video as always.. can you help me? Where do i find these presets (klon, timmy,kot...)? I just updated my kemper and i couldn't find anyone of these.
On rig manager, go to the list on the left and you will find 'All presets'. Click on your Kemper in the presets menu and they should all be in the list. If not you have fx presets in the folder that you downloaded to do the update. You can just drag them across.
Hi Mike, all of my Kemper videos are just stereo XLR out of the Kemper into my Behringer UMC404HD interface into Logic. No post processing. In my Kemper master EQ I always have a boost in the treble and presence for recording situations and always flat for live 👍
@@DanLeggatt Dan, thx for quick response. Would you mind sharing what your output levels are from Kemper and recording levels in logic. I can use the same preset from M Britt and still not get close to your tone here. Any tips much appreciated sir!👍
My output level from the main outs is -12db I think, I set the inputs on my interface for a healthy signal with some headroom and then just adjust the level in logic depending on what I’m doing. I rarely leave a profile in stock settings. The deluxe I called up for this had more top end, less gain and slightly more compression in the amp settings if memory serves.
I was hoping you'd demo this. I too was hoping for a better selection of drive models, but I like the new ones so far. With the reverbs, they added a couple of extra in the release version, so I'm hoping they do the same here. BTW, that Les Paul sounds glorious! What pickups are in it?
Thanks mate! If I’m honest, it’s a good update and really useable tones. I just found the Kemper Drive to sound like different settings on the same pedal than different circuits all together if it was hardware. Really though, that’s what it actually is, it’s just the info that came out made it sound like a lot more. The Les Paul currently has a Tonerider Birmingham in the bridge and Rebel 90 in the neck 👍
They are cracking pickups! I’m due to be working on some official demos for them in the next few weeks so you’ll have more to listen to if you haven’t taken the plunge by then 👍
@@DanLeggatt I knew I had seen you somewhere before. You did demos of their pickups. I got a Generator set a few years back and was blown away at how good they are. I got a few more sets after that, largely convinced by your demos.
Awesome man! Those videos feel like another lifetime ago to be honest. It was my first time doing anything like that and I was just brought in to play not really knowing the products. I don’t think any of us really knew what we were doing at the time 😂 The coming videos for them should be miles better!
You have to go to downloads and in the drop down box you’ll find ‘beta firmware’. I don’t imagine it’s all over their site because it’s not an official release yet 👍
Have you updated the rig manager? You should be able to go to the ‘presets’ on the left hand menu where all of the normal fx presets are and scroll down to find them. If they are still not there go to your download of the firmware and there is a file in there with all of the presets and you can drag them over 👍
@@DanLeggatt Thanks!. I used rig manager to update my profiler. It did not pull the presents. I went to the website and downloaded the beta. I pulled the preset folder from there and now it works.
The OCD is sweet. Love that pedal, glad Kemper now includes it.
It’s very cool and a big upgrade for the Kemper. Thanks for watching 👍
That's such a huge upgrade with the EXACT drives anyone could want!!! the TS in there is good, but man to have a Timmy and a Klon!!!!!
Did you go for the beta download? How are you liking the tones?
Dang! That sounds killer. I’ve been thinking of buying a Kemper for years, but never tried one. Are they “that” good?
yes
