+Herb Williams Lol I didn't want to break it to him... Maybe you can let him down gently. If his C6 runs on 4 cylinders it needs to be in the shop asap.
#6 It also has launch control. Double tap traction control button for competitive mode, hold the brake to the floor, hold the gas to floor, then let off brake.
@@lebojay lol, you apparently did not engage it properly if it didn’t work. It absolutely works if you know what you’re doing. Lawyer won’t help much, you do this at your own risk, no one forced you. Do some research it is designed to do this.
The V4 mode causes the car to shudder after a while. You will have to change your transmission fluid if it is already doing it, and get a Range AFM Disabler to prevent it from happening again. If you let the problem go on you may have to replace the torque converter as well.
The original transmission fluid in the A8 as hygroscopic. There is a NHTSA bulletin out there with a flushing procedure and a new upgraded trans fluid that avoids moisture. Follow that procedure and the shuddering will go away. And get that Range AFM bypass to save the lifters in your engine!
We've had our Stingray 2 years today, Happy B-day!! We just noticed last month that it has auto-up windows, holy crap!! Last week I realized I can set the dash in Track mode independent of being in Track mode. I've set the dash to Sport and Tour before (also set it so the dash would align itself with the drive mode selector), but I never thought about actually setting the display in Track mode without the drive mode being the same. I guess that's what happens when ya only put 12k miles on in 2 years. This thing is still amazing after 2 years, absolutely love it!!
FYI, letting it go into 4 cyln mode can cause lifter failure, and this is a common issue with (DOD) displacement on demand. If can be tubed out or you can get a module from places like Amazon that disables that feature. Around $100 shipped.
The '63-'67 had a "Sting Ray" badge. The '69-'76 was the first "Stingray" badge. The C7 is named after the C3 models. It shares many styling cues with those cars as well.
+Bill Dollarmovie Lol so far I've managed to keep it that way. I don't even like to valet my old Volkswagen Passat, so I don't see myself doing it anytime soon with my Corvette.
I'm like that with my Vette, Mach1, and Jaguar. I have a scratched up old Camry to drive around most of the time so I can eat in the car and park anywhere.
When I got my Vette, I drove it, first time I gave my husband the keys, he crashed it. I had it for a day. It's a good thing I love him more than a car.
Hi, I just found this channel a couple weeks ago and I found you very entertaining. You aren't bragging about having a Corvette and you just want to inform people about it. Plus by the sound of your voice it sounds like you are actually exited about telling us about the Corvette stingray (c7) great job and keep doing great
I’ve heard that the cylinder deactivation feature leads to catastrophic engine failure. I wouldn’t use it. There are sites that offer aftermarket modules to bypass it. I have the manual so I can just never use eco mode
Excellent presentation. BTW: Back in the 1950's, I used to ride to school in our neighbors 1955 White Corvette w/red interior. Have a 2014 yellow Corvette Stingray, but would rather have that 1955. 😆
6:30 I recently had the pleasure of filming the original Stingray in Atlanta Ga while there filming other vettes. The Corvette is in such great shape it looks like I went back in a time machine and filmed it.
I think some of my favorite thoughtful and unique features in addition to those mentioned are launch control, auto down and UP powered windows on both sides (surprisingly uncommon), and that your music and accessory power will not turn off when you turn off the car until you open the door. Also MSRC for the Z51.
Saw another video saying the v4 cylinder deactivation is actually bad for the car overall. That you should avoid it doing that and the fuel saving is very small compared to the cost of repairs later down the line. Affects the auto trans car mostly due to the torque converter. In auto apparently the only way around it is if you keep it in manual mode and manual cars just need to have eco mode turned off.

NIce informative video. I have had my car for a year now and didnt realize what the valet mode was for but i love the hidden compartment behind the media center. and great to know about the spare tire. I didnt know if they put a small spare under the back lid area near the battery.
I noticed you wrote Stingray as one word on the post, showed it written Sting Ray on the cars badge. You should tell the story of it being changed. Sting Ray Becomes Stingray The second generation (C3) of the Sting Ray had a body that was styled after the Mako Shark II concept car and it was in production until 1982. C3 coupes were the first ones to have T-tops. In 1969 the name was changed to what we are familiar with today, Stingray, all one word. ’69 was also the only year that C3 buyers could choose between side pipes or rear exhaust with chrome tips.
The 4 cylinder mode is a good idea. I know GM tried it in the 80's but the technology just wasn't there at the time. I remember hearing at one point once a car is up to 60 mph it only requires something like 40 or 50 horsepower to keep the car going the same speed. This was for a normal car I wouldn't be surprised if it was less than that for the Corvette as it weighs a lot less and had much better aerodynamics than the normal car. It's actually pretty amazing how low they're able to keep the weight with all the safety, sound deadening, and tech features. I'd love to own one, it actually looks like base model 2014's are already in the high 30's which is a great value.
Your points are well taken. Obviously, you've done your homework. I have one addition regarding no spare tire. It would actually be a problem to try and add a spare since the tires are different sizes, front to rear and are directional. And as you say, run-flat tires cover that kind of problem. Thanks again for the good info.
I couldn't help but to think of the movie, Ferris Bueller's day off!! When the valet driver was redlining and jumping that Ferrari!! LOL The camera is a nice feature to have. Ive always wondered what goes on, when my brother borrows my C6 !!
1 4 cyl bypass, yes already knew that. 2 in dash storage good to know. 3 helpful tip how to get in when the battery is dead. 4 gas cap becomming more common. 5 Stingray really any car guy knows about the original Stingray. Sorry this video scores a 40%. Thanks for teaching me something new.
Hello again, last question, I just bought my c7 laguna blue, she I thought would be my last vette since I have a heart condition, but sports cars of all class and countries I love them all. Ok, 2nd question, I have taken your words to heart (no pun) but when a person doesn't have ones own odometer. I still have my c5, trying to sell her, the dealer did a recall on the wheel column and now a 20amp fuse blows every time, so my hvac unit doesnt work. Sorry for the long drama, but my dad passed served in army. My wife and i are also vets, but you know your stuff, keep up the site, I don't like dealerships taken advantage of us. Your thoughts buddy. Thanks again, Col. Nels, USAF
+Nelson Morales Thank you for you and your families service to our country! I appreciate you watching the video and taking time to leave feedback. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to do about the fuse situation. Hopefully your able to get it resolved so you can get top dollar for your C5.
The C7 won't appreciate in value like the original C7 because of supply and demand. There is a lot of C7 supply and there will be for the whole run. Great video.
The first item mentioned, the V4 mode, only works in the Eco driving mode, not in all driving modes. I think in fact that's the whole purpose of having a separate Eco mode. Also if you've driven it a while you can tell when it switches in and out of V4 just from the little thunk it makes.
+BigDTexas It only happens in Eco mode with the manual transmission. It happens in all drive modes with the automatic transmission. You'll notice in the video I'm not in Eco mode while it's happening. The only way to avoid it with the auto is to switch to the paddle shifters.
I know a guy who babied his Vette so much that he had the upper cylinders mess up, that’s how I know about cylinder deactivation! They’re too tiny for me. I’ll have to look into renting on off of Turo maybe
My hwy mpg ranges from 26 to 40+ depend on how I feel! My best on a 153 miles trip using 3.7 gals that over 41 mpg . Bet it can get up to 45+ mpg w set of LRR tires.
Janusha What's outlandish is your accusation. Just because your pre-conceived notions disallow your brain from understanding this could be true, you assume he's lying. Here's why YOU are wrong. I actually owned a C5 with a manual transmission. On the highway, I was able to get up to 36 mph with regular driving. 8 cylinders pumping the entire time. This C7, weighing only about 3000 lbs., could CERTAINLY get mpgs in the 40's running on only 4 cylinders. Think before you write and accuse others of lying. Maybe lose the snotty attitude as well.
I've come across this idiot, Janusha, on more than one occasion. He spends his life bashing American sports cars from his mom's basement. For someone who has so much contempt for American sports cars, he spends a lot of time watching their videos, and commenting on them.My father owned a C6 and was a mechanic for Chevrolet. Getting 40 in a small window of pampered driving is believable. If you're easy on the throttle. A highway trip could easily get you 30+, and up to 35. His boss owned a 900hp Lingenfelter 427 and still could get up to 28mpg. Janusha's disbelief is his inability to acknowledge why GM elects to continue using this modernized push rod motor. The answer is obvious. Reliability and efficiency in real world driving.
Janusha Sorry brah, no opinion on my achieved results. Your response to my comment makes no sense- you apparently have an opinion to share regardless its appropriateness. I did get that mileage several times on highway trips- so what are you talking about?
You might want to disable the 8 to 4 cylinder function before it ruins the engine, check this out, same system in other chevy V8 engines , fails often. , need new engine.
Key was also in the C6 fob. It did not start with C7. Thanks, enjoy your videos. How about one showing the proper way to close the rear access lid. Please do not shut lid like a normal car. The C6 and C7 have a pull down motor that will gently close the lid. Just slowly meet the lid with the bottom of lock and the motor will pull down the deck lid slowly and completely. This is an awesome feature and will save the integrity of the rear deck lid. 😊
Thanks 4 the info I was going 2 buy a 2018 zo6 but when I heard u say that the car doesn't come with a spare tire you save me a lot of money and the aggrevations ... Good looking out
Please find some direction for your life. Not every Porsche shows over 30 mpg average. You are not entitled to your own facts. It is still apples to oranges. Most of the European V8s/V10s are pigs on gas for several different reasons. Those are small N/A 6s on the few Porsches that do get over 30 mpg. The high hp Porsches get about 20 mpg. The C7 Z06 is one of the most fuel efficient cars at 650 hp. Go research and stop spewing your opinion because it falls victim to facts.
You couldn't be more wrong. There are several Porsche models that don't make your 30 average mpg cut. One such example is the Cayenne Turbo S. And to properly sever you some knowledge you are clearly lacking, here is a link to the GERMAN Porsche website. If you need help translating the German, let me know: www.porsche.com/germany/models/cayenne/cayenne-turbo-s/featuresandspecs/ You're gonna have to do some math as well, which I know is a bit beyond your grasp, but if you need help, just ask. PS What compels you to just make things up?
I am interested in your thoughts on the newer Corvette, the new rear engine design, your thought. Do I keep adding upgrades and options or do I wait for a better Corvette in 2019? Thanking you in advance, Nelson.
Hey Nelson, that is a great question. I think that the C8 or 2019/2020 Corvette will be significantly more expensive than the C7. Everything I've read is pointing toward both models being sold at the same time. The C7 as the entry level and the C8 as a more elite supercar. If you think that 150k+ is in the budget I would wait to see what happens in 2019/2020, if not, then continue to mod and enjoy your current car! Either way I'm excited to learn more about the C7 ZR1 and C8 Corvette in the future!
Robin Sage Definitely will, it happens with all cars, especially when they change the generation. They're currently decently priced if you look into the '16 models so they will be a lot more affordable when the C8 drops.
My dad has a c3 Corvette stingray from 74 he painted a metallic racing green. I want to buy a new stingray and keep it for a long time so one day when I get old I can take my kids on rides on it.
CCandT. Well done video. You might wish to also show viewers the manual way you can exit the car from either driver's side or passenger's side in the event of an electrical failure. Also possibly include how the car can be started if the batteries die in the key fob. Both of the aforementioned features are well thought out and you never know when you might need to know it. I've found that even some dealers do not about the aforementioned and have to read the owner's manual when asked.
Do you know that there is HARD DISK in C7 ? 😲 Yes 🤗 I have c7 and i can record the radio ( the speech or song or any thing in the radio ) i think this is the new information that you don't know about it 😉
Ours is a 2014. When listening to the radio (am/fm), you can literally 'pause, play, ffw, and rewind!! We've had our 2 years and just found that out a couple weeks ago when tinkering with it, saWEEEET!! At same time, found out we have LIVE weather maps, forecast, etc. I've tinkered with the radio before, but these features never did anything until a couple weeks ago, unless I was doing something wrong up til this point. Our Stingray never disappoints, its like driving a new car everytime we take it out :)
Very informative most of these I found out from the dealership . A good one to cover would be to let everyone know there's an open slot on the steering column for the key fob to charge I was driving around for days with my key fob in my cup holder until I saw UA-cam video where somebody went over it now my keys fit right in just like if I was driving a car with it ignition
Don’t think the fob battery is rechargeable, the slot is to program new fob, if you lose one and buy a new one you can program it in a few minutes with the slot.
On the 2014 with an automatic transmission, putting it in manual paddle shift mode disables the V4 mode and keeps it in V8. On the 2014 the V4-V8 shift feels like an engine miss. In regular automatic mode and using cruise on the highway, as the car throttles up and down slightly for hills, the car is constantly shifting between V4-V8 mode and is really annoying. I just keep it in manual and use the paddle shifters which is much smoother anyway than the ragged 2014 6 speed transmission shifts. Since the Corvettes haven't had a spare tire since 1997 that is not particularly interesting. A much more interesting question on a C7 is "Where's the battery?"
buy the module to disable it altogether, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, GM never ceases to amaze with the bullshyte they spend money on, the hell would anyone buy a 'vette to have 4 cyls deactivate to 'save gas' you want to save gas buy a miata, a prius etc...
It’s bad - lifters can fail inside your engine from going in and out of V8 to V4. Plus the A8 transmission is clunky. If you have shuddering, there’s a NHTSA bulletin requiring a new transmission fluid after triple flushing. The original trans fluid allowed for moisture buildup
I just bought a c7 last month someone told me that running the car in four cylinders will ruin the engine and that I need to get it turned off on my car. Is this true??? Or is just someone being a hater??
Going back and forth between V4 and V8 causes lifter issues. There is a class action lawsuit pending about this. Get the Range Technology AFM bypass plugin and stay in V8 at all times!
I love my 2017 Grand Sport but do not like the gas fill inlet system. Corvette design team could have also made better interior use of space to accommodate smart phones, change, etc...... The hidden compartment behind the touch screen info center gets too hot as does the armrest storage compartment. Armrest compartment heat was also a major problem on C6’s of which I owned an ‘09 and ‘12. It was disappointing to realize Chevrolet did not correct the problem in the C7.
I believe the C7 is the only Corvette to have standard amber turn signals in the rear. They went back to the combined brake light/turn signal in the C8. Just my $0.02 but an amber turn signal is safer and I'm disappointed Chevy again cheaped out on this for the C8
+Ken Wright It really is an awesome car! I hope my videos help a few new owners/potential buyers see the full potential of the car. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback!
The V-8 can run on 4 cylinders . . . "it's actually a really innovative design." Well, they may have an innovative design for this car, but 8-6-4 cylinder deactivation has been around since at least 1981.
Had my c7 for a couple years. Things that are needed: 1) Option to always display gear (currently only able to do this when set to manual) 2) Option to disable 4 cylinder mode 3) Option to disable air/seat for passenger 4) Option to run iTunes and Google play (stereo and GPS is awful) 5) Better stereo interface/options (all GMs use a cheap integrated software that has no place in a Corvette or any car that costs more than $50) .
I only knew the 1st cylinder deactivation 100% As for the second i have serious doubts ?? No-3 , 4 & 5 never knew : Thanks for the video dude cause i'm a vette fun :-)
Thanks for all your efforts. I am planing to get the C7 but bin really confused between the Base one 1lt or the Z51 !! I dont want to track it at all , so it would be better to get the Base one. But in Europe every Car dealer prefer the Z51 Model !!!? I am thankful for any tips :)
Even though you don't have the package with pdr do you know how to access the valet info of the data and see how they drive it exactly? I think the 2 front cameras record as well as the rear camera
Really cool, never saw this info on any other Corvette channels.

This is so true, I have one for my Silverado and my Corvette. One of the dumbest things GM ever did to their engines.
I love it on my Cadillac XT5. But I don't drive my corvette around to save gas. LOL
Yes, it can cause damage. Recommend the Range Tech AFM disabler that plugs into OBD 2 port. Easy fix.

Haha, when you first started talking about the secret entrance I thought you were going to say “and then you crawl in through the hatch...”
That was the original concept but not everyone that can afford a new corvette is athletic enough to do that so they put in the door release cable.

Active Fuel Management ruins the torque tube. Tune it out, use paddles or buy an AFM disabler. Most ridiculous feature added to the C7.
Absolutely correct! And it can ruin lifters as well.

If you hear valve rattle when going from V 8 to 4 or vice versa, get a OBD plug in to cancel it out before you detonate your engine or tranny

+Terry Chan That's pretty insane! 40+ mpg in a 6.2L V8.... Thanks for sharing!
Heck I get 17.5 MPG in my 2010 Mazda3s (2.5L) when I drive it aggressively in the city..... guess the Corvette has me beat in more ways than one. :)
THANK YOU, I did not know about valet mode.
The Corvette "The HOTTEST Hatch"
I've been slamming my trunk shut 😆
I’m suprised about that 4 cylinder fact! Why does no one talk about that???? That’s such a cool feature
worse thing ever. It is known to cause transmission problems later. First thing I got was a device that stops the 4 cylinder mode for good.
Thanks for the video, I want the C7 Grand Sport.
+Devil Dog Thanks for watching! Me too lol
If I buy a corvette I will not be concerned about saving gas or the price of gas I will unplug the fuse that activate it ecosystem
Thanks 4 the info I was going 2 buy a 2018 zo6 but when I heard u say that the car doesn't come with a spare tire you save me a lot of money and the aggrevations ...
Good looking out
Comes with run flat tires
I have a 2014 Corvette Stingray I take out on weekends and I am still finding neet little things it does - Love my vet............
my next toy...can't wait to get it!
+E. Carter Nice 👌 Congrats man. You're going to love it!
Awesome video man! Definitely my most favorite C7 spec to brag about is getting 30 MPG hehe
+MP87 Thanks for the feedback! 30 mpg with 460 hp is pretty incredible.
If you need help translating the German, let me know:
www.porsche.com/germany/models/cayenne/cayenne-turbo-s/featuresandspecs/
You're gonna have to do some math as well, which I know is a bit beyond your grasp, but if you need help, just ask.
PS
What compels you to just make things up?
Hello Do you think the c8 corvette will drop the price for c7 corvette?
Robin Sage I hope so I’m waiting til next year to get a stingray
Robin Sage Definitely will, it happens with all cars, especially when they change the generation. They're currently decently priced if you look into the '16 models so they will be a lot more affordable when the C8 drops.
Mine has been rising at kbb & nada for 2 years now
My dad has a c3 Corvette stingray from 74 he painted a metallic racing green. I want to buy a new stingray and keep it for a long time so one day when I get old I can take my kids on rides on it.
THIS IS THE BOXSTER OF THE SPORTS CAR WORLD
I bought a corvette sport car v8 I sure as hell do not want a 4 cylinder for any reason
+Daphne CArey Very true... Maybe a part 2 of this video is necessary?? Thanks for the feedback!
Do you know that there is HARD DISK in C7 ? 😲
Yes 🤗
I have c7 and i can record the radio ( the speech or song or any thing in the radio )
i think this is the new information that you don't know about it 😉
+Faisal Albather I've heard about this, but haven't actually tested it. That's a very interesting feature. Thanks for the feedback!
How does the hard disk work??
5:07 immagine getting lock out of your C7 then you pop the key and trunk to realize there was no roof xD
I agree, going in and out of V8 to V4 is so dumb. I bought the Range AFM bypass and never looked back! No more V4.
I have a '19 c7 manual and the 4 cylinder mode still comes on in sport. Maybe I need to check my settings
buy the module to disable it altogether, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, GM never ceases to amaze with the bullshyte they spend money on, the hell would anyone buy a 'vette to have 4 cyls deactivate to 'save gas'
you want to save gas buy a miata, a prius etc...
I heard the the V4 mode is really bad for the transmission, it is true?
It’s bad - lifters can fail inside your engine from going in and out of V8 to V4. Plus the A8 transmission is clunky. If you have shuddering, there’s a NHTSA bulletin requiring a new transmission fluid after triple flushing. The original trans fluid allowed for moisture buildup
I wish it looked more like the 60's Stingray because I love that car. Chevy modeled the C7 after the 70's stingray that looks weird.
This car looks amazing
+superpiff420 Thank you!
It was disappointing to realize Chevrolet did not correct the problem in the C7.
re: my C7, thanks for the info :)
great stuff, thanks...new ownerr ray/la
The Stringray name was also used on the C3 cars from 1968 to 1976 !!!! Chevy dropped the the Stringray name for the 1977 models.
its a new stingray---neosstingray---oldone starts 30grant
The C2 is Sting Ray and the C7 is Stingray the original Stingray is a C3
I have a ‘75 Stingray. It’s the last year of the c3’s also the lowest valued one. So that’s why it got moded up😎👍🏻
Thanks WoW I didn’t know this and bought in 2016😂
Is it true that cylinder deactivation can lead to engine problems?
Yes, get the Range AFM bypass and stay in V8 at all times
Where did you get your black rims. I have a 2017 stingray C7. I love your rims in black Also like the red calipers in the blue vette
just ordered a 2018 and this was very informative!!
I got a new stingray few weeks back.. so much stuff on it is mind boggling. I just get in it and drive it and ignore all the features.
+geo land There's nothing wrong with that! The driving experience alone is enough with the C7s. Thanks for the feedback.
Had my c7 for over a year before I knew about most of the bells and whistles
So what do you do if you have no spare? Have to call for a tow?
I believe the C7 is the only Corvette to have standard amber turn signals in the rear. They went back to the combined brake light/turn signal in the C8. Just my $0.02 but an amber turn signal is safer and I'm disappointed Chevy again cheaped out on this for the C8
You dont have to slam the trunk hatch.....just place it down gently and a motor catches it pulls it closed
There's no motor in for the trunk on my c7. Maybe yours? My c6 did.
Great video, great car. Many thanks for sharing these details.
+Ken Wright It really is an awesome car! I hope my videos help a few new owners/potential buyers see the full potential of the car. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback!
James
The V-8 can run on 4 cylinders . . . "it's actually a really innovative design." Well, they may have an innovative design for this car, but 8-6-4 cylinder deactivation has been around since at least 1981.
Ask the folks who have a Class action lawsuit against GM for lifter issues caused by AFM how they feel about V4 mode!
Love the interior! Such a nice car!
+National Dispatch LLC Thank you!
Awesome video , kinda inspired me to open up my own channel to talk about my C7 :)
+2BFRANK Go for it! This video was filmed, edited and uploaded from a smartphone 👍 I was hesitant to get started, but I don't regret it at all.
How is the ride?
awesome … have had mine for 4 years and love it. 2019 Grandsport
I own a 2017 ctsv Rn but really thinking about getting 2014 stingray next 2 weeks just having second thoughts if I should or not ? Tips ?
Do all C7 have the targa top?
Yes, except for the convertible models of course lol.
1:50 that’s bad for the car, it can blow your engine & even cause torque converter & or transmission failure
Eco mode using 4 cylinders while the other four are still working that’s for caddie lack
I hope chevy fixed the lifter issues with the Tahoe had
i want a corvette🙏
Nena Garcia I have a corvette 😃
I only knew the 1st cylinder deactivation 100%
As for the second i have serious doubts ??
No-3 , 4 & 5 never knew :
Thanks for the video dude cause i'm a vette fun :-)
+Thelionfan11 I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! I appreciate the feedback.
Active Fuel Management, GM's being doing it since at least '07.
I WILL BUY THIS CAR ONE DAY!!!!!!!!
Mr AMU Or a Zo6 or Zr1
Even though you don't have the package with pdr do you know how to access the valet info of the data and see how they drive it exactly? I think the 2 front cameras record as well as the rear camera
Great info - thanks very much!
