I am from Cebu, but i agree, groceries, food selection, shopping, fashion, nightlife, redlight, clubs, international concerts, & infrastructure would be Manila, my family always did vacations in Manila when i was a kid.

You make good points! I'm right in the middle, 51 but in pretty good shape where people all tell me they thought I was early - mid 40s. I've spent time in both Manila and Cebu and (for now) would lean Cebu as a landing spot if some day I choose Philippines to live. I admit though I did not spend too much time in Manila will be back there in October to give it another chance. I also want to visit Davao as a possible landing spot.

Recently emailed you. I've lived in Cebu City, Davao City, Dumaguete, and now Manila Tivoli Garden Residences and I'm finding dating in Manila brutal like you said.
I'm not moving from Tivoli Garden Residences now but living in BGC would definitely benefit me. My life in the Philippines is always six months.
Manila dating has been brutal but being here is still better than the United States. I also believe that I'm just hitting a bad luck streak.

If you have ‘Frame / Stature / Presence ‘ you want the city that’s shaping the future…
If you have no concept of Frame, you’re wounded, tired, go someplace quiet… it’s beats the trailer park in Florida 🤣

Age 62. 45 Days from Civil Service retirement/ 90 Days from Cebu City. I'm doing a Six Month Trial of the Philippines. I'll base myself in IT Park or Business Park & visit from there. I like that Business Park & IT Park are a half hour walk apart. I like that either Development puts my Daily wants within a 20 Minute walk of the Condos... Government Offices with a Half Hour Taxi Ride [at the most!]. I'll see what I learn on the Ground...

I've not been to Cebu for 15 years, but was in Manila a year ago. I think there's more undesirables in certain areas of Manila than Cebu. As for Boracay, it's good for a week maximum. I made the mistake of spending 10 nights there in March 2009 and found my days on repeat after 6-7 days. I stayed at La Reserve in Station 2 run by a genuinely nice Frenchman named Laraunt, who upgraded my beach hut free of charge when I discovered a problem with the door lock.

    • @JasperinthePhilippines
      @JasperinthePhilippines  2 місяці тому +1

Gotcha yeah I stay in the nice areas of Manila and I think it’s superior but it’s open to interpretation. Certainly yeah Boracay is an acquired taste. I can stay there for a month or two, but I used to live there and I don’t mind it.

Luzon is a big island with many choices about where to live. One can live in Luzon and even close to Manila, if desired, without having to live in Manila. This applies to any of the islands and their respective cities.

@@JasperinthePhilippines Cheers Mate! Hopefully I can get boots on the ground there next year, and check it out for a couple of months. If one wants to be a valued commodity, go where demand outstrips supply. Go to a place where your value goes from being a 5-6 to a 9-10 predominantly based upon a change of location, and being a highly desired but scarce product. Work smarter, not harder. 🙂Take care Jasper!

    Neither.
Angeles City is where smart expats live.
It is a city which is geared for expats and has all the products and services you need within a very short distance.
It has modern hospitals, Western style apartments, visa agents, lawyers, shops selling Western food, restaurants of all nationalities, the huge Clark Zone with all the industries, amusement parks, museums, etc.
In addition, Baguio is near, Manila is near, Subic Bay beaches are near, there is an international airport, there is not much traffic and not much pollution. And you have privacy and respect for it.
In short, AC is the place.
Manila has all those but the distances are huge, the traffic is horrendous and the air is not clean. It can also be expensive.
In Cebu, same thing. Traffic and pollution and huge crowds.
What I personally don't like about Cebu is while the locals are very friendly, they also tend to be too much into your business, making comments,
staring, etc. Some try and get into a fight. Sorry, I just had to say it. A good place to visit but not to live in.
Angeles City is where you should be heading.
