For all the people shitting on sunmi’s vocals, know that cheerup is a surprisingly hard song to sing. It’s not like people in the video were mad at her either, they were filming a variety show. She’s supposed to be entertaining, sunmi was just having fun and I find that cute.

For a song that continually changes pitch and is meant for 9 people Sunmi did fine. It’s an entertainment show not a talent show. She can obviously sing, the chorus just isn’t in her vocal range.
It's not that Sunmi lacks singing talent. Cheer Up IS a really hard song to sing. Idiots were shitting on TWICE, saying they couldn't sing when they, singing AND dancing at the same time, used to lipsynced the highest parts to catch their breath. Mad respect, especially to Jihyo.

It's not hard if your voice is naturally high pitched or if your vocal range can cover the upper register well, Sunmi has a lower voice so she can't really reach those high notes with ease

I think some of y'all underestimate the difficulty of Twice's songs. Many of you can say "oh I can easily sing Twice's songs", and that's one their charms, to have their songs be catchy for anyone to sing, however how many of you actually tried to remotely sing the song in the original pitch. It's quite difficult (of course you'd also may consider that Sunmi on average has a slightly lower tone than most of the girls in Twice and that the 9 members share the roles of the whole song). If you guys want more receipts, Jimin from 15& also the winner of Kpop Star Season 1(? Correct me if I'm wrong), is known for her singing skills and have said how she's surprised Twice can sing Cheer Up and dance to it, as she was out of breath without even dancing.
This comment is simply to educate those who are misunderstanding the video, and giving props to both Twice and Sunmi. Sunmi is obviously just having fun :)

Nah twice has 9 members and have their own part. Whereas, now Sunmi have to sing the whole song which is tiring
Thiha Kyaw Thar I've said it in my original comment that it is factor where you have to consider Sunmi is one person whereas the song is divided into 9 parts for the members. However you can even attempt to just sing the chorus in the original note and possibly dance to it (often shared by ONLY Nayeon and Jihyo in this one) and you'd already see how tiring it is, with breath control as one thing that you'll have to remember.
I used to be someone who did criticize (with respect and constructive criticism) Twice for not being able to sing their songs during rookie days, so I use to have that kind of mindset. Again, if you factor the fact that Sunmi is one person singing a nine person song, it is pretty difficult and it's factor both you and I should consider before making an opinion, I still say it's a difficult song, but of course I can't force you to think anything and your opinion is respected :)

Sunmi sang Cheer Up to show her support for TWICE. She once was in the same company (JYP Ent.) with TWICE. BTW Cheer Up is a hard song to cover if your vocal range is not high enough and you are sole singing to it. In Idol School (survival reality show), the contestants had a hard time hitting the right note. Somin (KARD) once covered Cheer Up, but the song is too fast pace that she gone out of breathe after singing the 1st chorus.

Anyone singing outside of their range will not sound great. That's not an indication of their actual talent. She's forcing herself in the spirit of a variety show but Sunmi is talented enough to sing in her own range when she's actually performing

The key of the song is up. But its not really difficult. Per se, if you listen to dumb dumb, not only is it in a high key but it also has many runs and adlibs which make it hard

Ad-libs arent hard to do. You just have to make it up and down instead of make it straight. Also runs arent also hard doing. So CU and DDD are both easy plays for someone who has basic vocal lessons

Love Sunmi so much but this is honestly too hard to sing for just one person (tho mad credit to jihyo this made me realize how talented twice is) and additionally it’s not her vocal range at all. I get that Cheer Up is a popular song but maybe she could’ve rearranged it because she sounds so tired and I’m pretty sure that it isnt’t good to strain your vocal cords like this even if it’s “just for fun”. Media is harsh these days and people take things out of context, so no I don’t think this was a good song to sing on a tv-show that airs on national television. I still love her though.

Have y'all not heard Jihyo's vocals on the actual track though? She just belting out all them notes and it's the type of singing style that isn't really Sunmi. Doesn't mean Sunmi's voice isn't good. She just has her own sound that she clearly owns in her recent songs.
Jihyo doesnt have high pitch voice too. Literally no twice member has high pitch voice.

I'M GLAD TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE COMMENTING ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY OF CHEER UP. It is one of the most difficult songs vocally that I have ever come across. People are really downplaying TWICE. They can perform this song well while having synchronization unmatched by many groups. Sunmi did just fine here. It is just at a different range than her own.
This obviously show that TWICE does have TALENTS look at those people (including some covers online) not being able to wing the song perfectly, because TWICE’s vocal line is one of THE BEST.
The song is so high pitched she is a good singer but only Twice can make this song beautiful.

As you have higher voice you just reach high pitch easier than those don’t have it. Besides, Sunmi mostly known for being an amazing entertainer ( she performs beautifully ) more than an great vocal. In the end, a song can not suit everyone’s voices

Well she’s got guts. Incredibly bold move to attempt to solo cover a 9 member song.
Everyone has a limit on their vocal range naturally, some can get lower than others, and some can go high, that's why there are alto and soprano.
With years of training like artists in the kpop industry, they can get the natural best out of themselves. Sunmi is simply not a high notes singer, but it would be silly to say that she is a bad singer because of that.
Cheer Up and most of TWICE's song goes extremely high, but it fits their vocal. Likewise, Sunmi, since Wonder Girl, has her own part that fits her and she is very good at it.

Before hating on Sunmi's vocals, I want to tell you something: first of all, her voice isn't high as TWICE's, so it's normal if it sounds strange at first; then the song isn't easy to sing even if a lot of people think so, and finally she couldn't hold her laugh (and that's obvious, because she is on a variety show so it's suppose to be funny and entertaining, not with perfect vocals).
But if you listen closely, you'll realize that in some parts she was actually very good (when she wasn't laughing or being embarassed), so please don't insult her. She has a beautiful voice and I bet that if she made an official cover of "Cheer up", it would be amazing.

Sunmi has a deep voice unlike twice so of course this song wouldn’t suit her. A lot of Twice’s songs are very girly and high pitched while Sunmi’s songs vocal range are deeper and more mature in style so that’s why I think she couldn’t pull this song off but even Wanna One members can sing girl groups better than when she tried (not hating on her but she could have tried better)

I’ve heard Sunmi sing and she did surprisingly well. I like singing Twice’s songs because my voice is more suited for higher pitches.
