This is the real Charo! Look at her concentration and when she plays. This is world class talent. Such a shame she is known in America for anything but this.
If Charo says it's "a very difficult song," you know that's true. She practices 3 - 4 hours every night in the off-season and has been classically trained by Spanish gypsies and Andres Segovia since age 7. A master of flamenco guitar.
I can relate... I have played violin (fiddle-Scottish, Irish, country, bluegrass, actually) for 23 years now. And if it’s a passion, it’s not practicing as a laborious act, it’s fun! My orscfice sessions usually involve me just going through every tune I know, every song, every recording I’ve learned, and just going through them all. And I’m always gradually learning new music, once I’ve heard it and it’s stuck in my mind, and I can sing it, I can translate it to the instrument. That’s what one famous musician once told me: if you can SING it, you can play it. Because then you know what it should sound like. Sounds basic, I know, but it’s very true. Plenty of ppl have heard me play and immediately want me to teach them the fiddle. But unless you’re actively listening to Irish music, or whatever it is that you want to be playing, then it isn’t present in your mind.. a concept has to be flowing mentally for you to be able to even attempt it.
@@erikm8372I tried to learn fiddle/violin a few years ago. Sadly I had no teacher, You Tube and Google were not a 'thing' yet and I live in a rural area. I eventually gave up and sold it. My grandfather played fiddle and I am of Scottish roots so it seemed fitting. 😔
Never ever miss a chance to see her. She told us that the "Cuchi cuchi" got her to the bank, but who she really is is a classical guitarist. Segovia considered her the best.
So very true, as a guitarist I just cannot believe how amazing she is and makes it look easy. She’s right up there with Carlos Montoya and other greats.
I’m came here as a drag race fan, seeing Charo pop up every now and then, thinking nothing of the silly lady with plastic surgery. After seeing this I’m a legit Charo fan! Wow. Underrated and overlooked talent!
Andre Segovia considered her one of, if not, the best classical guitarist in the world. Google him too. We saw her in concert and she explained that the "Cuchi cuchi" takes her to the bank, but she a classical guitarist is who she is, playing for more hours per day than I can recall.
Cool! I just finished watching her on Carol Burnett....Carol was frikken hilarious playing her mom! So I got to searching Charo as i vaguely recall seeing her in the 70s when I was a little girl! But to this day, never realized she was a classical flamenco guitarist! Pretty cool!
Don't judge a book by its cover. She started out as a serious musician, but got famous for cuchi cuchi, and appearances on The Love Boat. I'm not a huge fan of classical guitar, but appreciate that she is very talented.
I love this music. I love this music so much I married a Spanish girl and bought a home on the beach near Marbella and lived for many years in Spain. The only thing missing is I never had the opportunity to see Charo perform and play her guitar. I ate many times at her restaurant but never got to meet her or see her play as I was told she might for her dining guests. My loss for sure. She is as beautiful as ever. A real angel.
She's a star a shining star in the world of music. I didn't know she studies w/ Segovia ! Aha ! something told me she must have studied with the master himself. Now I learn it's true. And those gypsies, they "own" that instrument. 😍😍
I recently discovered Charo as a serious musician. From what I read, she was recognized as an excellent musician by people in the know. It seems to be the general American public that didn't know, having only seen her as the cuchi-cuchi girl, as I did until very recently.
To this day I can first remember seeing her on all the entertainment shows in the early 70's when they were still trying to promote her as a singer and comic relief for talkshow hosts. The moment I first heard her play Aranjuez, I knew I was going to have to learn to play the Spanish guitar. I have always admired her technique, as a student of Segovia you can see the control and mastery. At times she may have become more flamboyant with her type of flamenco style, even a little too showy but she has always worked hard to promote herself over a period of time when women were not taken seriously. I truly admire her and enjoy her playing.
She is actually a pretty great vocalist. I mean, you cannot possibly be this good at guitar and be a *bad* vocalist - but she actually has a great singing voice. But yeah, she's a guitar virtuoso and makes it look totally effortless. That she manages to be so adorable about all of it makes it even better lol. Truly an amazing woman.
CHARO PLAYS MANY OF THE SPANISH CLASSICS,AS WELL AS A LOT OF POPULAR MUSIC FROM MEXICO...SOME YEARS AGO I CAME TO KNOW THE MUSIC FROM THE ISLAND OF CUBA~IT IS LIKE NO OTHER -ENERGETIC AND DEEPLY SOULFUL,~A PERFECT FIT, FOR THIS MASTER GUITAR.PLAYER...PARTICULARLY ONE SONG ABOUT A CUBAN MARTYR-I AM SURE MOST PEOPLE KNOW THIS SONG THROUGHOUT LATIN AMERICA
Dear Charo, I remember the 1st time I heard you play guitar after so many appearances on Johnny Carson, convinced that you were just a beautiful comedian and being floored by your true talent. I was reminded of you while watching a "Ten Best List" video that you weren't on. God bless you. I'm going back to the other video to straighten them out over there.
Charo is awesome!, what a unique talent, she has beauty & class sophistication, & great comedic ability, & she looks great here. Beautiful hair outfit and guitar.
That's what I always remembered Charo for since I was a little girl. I hadn't thought about her in possibly 40 years. Until 3 months ago I came across some _SalSoul record company_ Disco music she was singing on. I decided to see if she was still alive _(yes)_ and to be in awe of her massive talent beyond the Cuchy Cuchee Coooooo. I never was into Flamenco music. However ... Listening & watching her play her guitar with graceful intensity made Me appreciate more of this musical genre. I listen to most genres of music I grew up with anyway, being a midrange musician - _Jazz, Soul, R&B, Calypso, Salsa, Ska, Reggae, Rap/HipHop, Rock, Metal, Disco, Etc., and now Flamenco._
What an amazing talent ! such a beautiful gift . I remember her as a young person she was on TV but all I remember is her coo chi coo thing on stupid television in the early 70's .such a shame that her gift's were not shared with the american public as not only as a gifted guitarist, dancer and singer she really is.
I have a serious Love Jones for Charo, what a talent, what a beauty,. And I've seen Paco y Carlos Montoya, Manitas de Plata y Andres Segovia she's wonderful, they all are.
Around 2:15 the orchestra starts overpowering her exquisite guitar playing. They should have left everything out except for her playing, which is amazing.
Well First: Aranjuex is a concerto so she is appropriately playing with orchestral backing. However her arrangement of Asturias has backing because it A) makes it easier and B) she made her own arrangement of this piece....AND it leaves out the hardest right hand techniques....making it quiet bland and boring, in comparison to the original, in certain points of the piece . I like many other classical guitar players have performed Asturias on stage (its kind of a staple piece that a lot of players/students know they will be asked to work on or perform at some point in their career.) This isn't meant to insult her skill etc, it's just an explanation why she wouldn't have played without the backing and why it sounds better for her with it
I would have said closer to 2:45 but she is also playing very softly. The orchestra is also playing very softly, but string instruments do have a bottom threshold for producing a sound, creating a minimum volume that can be played, and they greatly outnumber her.
Well I been playing guitar for 38 years I did not know she could play like this. I am definitely impressed. I bet queensryche listened to them I heard her influence in their silent lucidity
Charo - so great to hear you again - sorry to hear about Kjell, I hope Shel is doing well all grown up! This is Cugie's friend - we worked on a project Tico Tico (Carmen Miranda project) - I wish we would have done that film . . . anyhow I have always been in love with "El Cid" (Miklos Roza) you do it fabulously!!! I'd say I was surprised about your brilliant playing but wasn't I already knew how wonderfully talented and funny you are! Deby
