Hello Ladies, Being a 73 year old Carpenter, I decided to give your oatmeal cookie recipe a try, I've followed your directions and have done two batches over the past 2 weeks, They were perfect, The Nieghors are calling me Chef Leroy,, thank you so much, I'll always remember this way of baking these cookies
I really like when you guys talk about the reasoning behind the proportions and steps with ingredients. This oatmeal recipe should be the gold standard for your video recipes.
I live in Nova Scotia,Canada and I love, love,LOVE these videos!! We don't watch T.V., and I'm so glad America's Test Kitchen decided to upload the 'shows' to UA-cam because I get to watch them every week...and that makes me a 'happy camper'!! LOL Please keep the recipes, equipment corner, gadget guru,etc.,etc.,coming!! Thank you! :-)
America's Test Kitchen is there anyway to buy all the seasons on DVD? I've searched everywhere and can't find them. At the end of the show it used to advertised that you could buy them. I thought I was buying them and I got the massive cookbooks which I love but can't watch those, lol.
I will say this: I have NEVER HAD A TRADITIONAL REAL OATMEAL COOKIE TILL I MADE THESE❤️🔥❤️👍🏼🥰💯😘THEY ARE PERFECT AND DELICIOUS AND YUMMY 🤤 THANK YOU SO MUCH, LADIES IT WAS REALLY VERY EASY RECIPE TO FOLLOW ❤️
You are not kidding. You can really taste the oat in this recipe.finally an oatmeal cookie recipe where you can actually taste the oat. Thank you sooo much guys❤️
@@kokolatte825 I kinda see what you mean! Milk Street is great, but there was more comedy in A.T.K. Also, you just can't help but stay attached to something that worked good, like A.T.K. crew, especially with Julia & Bridgette, which made the show come alive with their humor of all sorts!
Thank you for explaining what ingredient causes which reaction in the process! Practical and usable information on a great looking cookie!! Great vid! Subscribed
I love watching this show. If I were 50 years younger, I'd open a very charming B & B or inn and serve all of ATK recipes to the guests. I can picture these on a well dressed table for afternoon tea.
The pecan bars look delicious. I might add a few finely-ground pecans to the crust, and will definitely add nuts to the oatmeal cookies. Nice work, Elle!
LOVE that blue hair! I've been contemplating...😋 Learned alot from this. Especially about the oats and pecans which I also love lol! Guess besides breakfast I'll use my quick oats for meatloaf. That's how my granny made it and I like that the best anyhoo. My grandkids only like raisins from the box. You might want to smack me here but I like to put cinnamon or butterscotch morsels in instead. Those cinnamon chips are the bomb! I really like those little dishes myself too! I bought a whole bunch of different ones yes ago. Need more now. I have stainless and glass... But my faces are the little ceramic colored ones. I got those from a pet store😁🐾. Use them for everything. Sometimes even pets haha. Pecans!!!! I made homemade pecan pie for my ex yes ago with pecans we got from his grandmas farm in Arkansas. About the freshest you can get! Lot of work tho shelling etc. This bar recipe sounds so yum and is so EASY! I just wish nuts were cheaper. Jeepers it's scary going to the store anymore....for anything. Thanks all you ladies. This one was right up my alley!🤗🍪☕🍶🍣
I have a recipe that calls for toasted oats. The cookie is crisp all the way through and that is the way I like them. Crunchy. Soft cookies are breakfast cookies in our house. For bowls you all need to try Dollar Tree, 4 for a dollar for the small and 2 for a dollar for the larger size. Walmart is also cheap.
I'm with Bridgette on the raisins! I don't like cooked raisins but love raw one's. On recipes that call for raisins (not oatmeal cookies) I'll substitute dates that are chopped instead & it really gives an extra flavor that's yummy! Definite a must try especially in sweet breads
This recipe is so easy to prepare and taste very good too. Super chewy n soft, I hv reduced the amount of sugar n turned out perfect too, thank you so much
Oh good, I was just thinking about pecan bars. A while back I made Ina Garten's pecan bars and it was a disaster. I'll try this one now. ATK has never let me down.
Agreed! I stopped watching for a while cuz they seemed out of touch with the real world without any diversity. Also, Julia CD make a very tone-deaf comment about her daughter not liking things that were dark! I was done...
This is a truly great and flavorful cookie. What a great find this recipe is and thankfully, no chocolate chips were added to spoil the flavor of the oatmeal. The addition of raisins is a perfect choice because they don't change the flavor of the oatmeal. Chocolate chips belong in chocolate chip cookies. I agree with the people who think this is the gold standard recipe.
I saw this just recently, and baked my first half-batch a few days ago. It was GREAT! and I made my second batch yesterday afternoon. I love your recipes and your sense of humor. I remember that you recommended sauteing rice, and I've liked the result. I suspected toasting the oats would similarly improve the oatmeal taste, but I'm not sure how I'd do that. I'm not a fan of raisins (and I'd have left them out) but I included them and I'm glad I did. For yesterday's half-batch I added pecans.
Omgosh!! My mouth was totally watering as you cut and bit into the pecan bars!!! It brought my beloved memories of pecan pie into full swing and I couldn’t help but sigh with sheer pleasure!! Yesssssssss!
Both the cookies AND the bars are a must try. I just couldn't decide!! Lol. Thank you for all of the segments of this show. You all do a fantastic job bringing us valued information. YOU ARE ALL ROCK STARS! I miss you, Christopher Kimbal. Rest assured that the show is doing well. I LOVE you all at ATK!!!!! 💕
Love watching you guys together. We don’t like overly sweet desserts. But still enjoy a snack at the end of the day or with coffee. How much sugar can I decrease without compromising flavor and the ratios too much.
Been living in Europe and Asia for the last 10 years and I stepped up my American cuisine game in the last couple of years almost solely due to you guys! I love you ladies! I'd LOVE to send you some Swiss chocolate if you leave a P.O. Box. I simply can't live here in Switzerland and not share the best chocolate on the planet with people who clearly enjoy great tasting fare!
I make the pecan bars every year for Thanksgiving, but I've figured out how to incorporate Bourbon into every layer of the recipe, without compromising texture ;)
I have made oatmeal cookies my entire life and I made these last night and these are the best I've ever made. They are even better after being in the refrigerator overnight. This is my new go to recipe.
Those pecan bars looked so delicious. I wish there was interactive tv. I’d loved to be a part of the audience and get to eat the leftovers. You guys know what you’re doing.
I love to add shredded coconut to my oatmeal cookies. Not a lot but it adds chew and no one seems to recognize what the difference is, but they are always a hit.
Well i made them . they came out real good . i put walnuts insted of raisans . . i scooped the too big . they blended too big. But the next batch are smaller . lolo . everyone loves them. Their so tasty too . yum . thanks guys. I love your cooking . easy to fallow . ♥️
Those pecan bars look fantastic! ...a lot like butter tarts, which is just a shortbread crust in muffin tins, with a brown sugar n btter filling, full of walnuts or pecans and currants or raisins. they have an egg in there, too...gives a wonderful fluffiness to them.
Excellent video, explanation, and final product. My favoritw cookie is oatmeal raisin and this is the best recipe I have tried. Thank you for tweaking!!
Tried these cookies today. I used quick oats (that's what I had in the cupboard), 1/4 cup white sugar instead of 1/2 cup. I baked mine for 12 minutes to get some colour... Very easy to make, tastes delicious, a lil too sweet (next time I will used 1/4 cup less of brown sugar)
first time making oatmeal raisin cookies. hands down best ever. love your adjustments. wish your site wasn't behind a paywall but luckily someone here listed the ingredients :)
Would love for the Gals to make a Costco soft oatmeal raisin cookie. No one beats that cookie! And they are never offered in just a box of them alone... we need that too. I LOVE these gals, and entire gang and they all seem so much happier as well.
I made mine with bran flake cereal and used Splenda brown sugar and Splenda white sugar also added coconut flavoring with the vanilla same amount of each instead of raisins I chopped up 1/2 cup of whole half walnuts and they turned out awesome
I've got my father-in-law's paternal grandmother's oatmeal cookie recipe, which she brought from Germany when marrying Grandpa, and was translated into English. it's the best recipe, as there's a few after baking steps, which makes them extra special. Maybe I'll combine Great-Grandma's recipe with this one for THE best cookie.
Outstanding, ultra nutty pecan bars is RIGHT! I’ve made then twice now and everyone gives them rave reviews! Thank you for the wonderful, new family favorite recipe!
literally just made the oatmeal cookies, 1st batch is in the oven now. Not sure if I missed something but the batter is ever so crumbly but enough moisture to form a ball to squish down. Here's hopin!!!
I gave small batches as Christmas gifts, my friends are asking for them now! I've tried my 8th batch with dried cherries changed nothing else, will see how they taste! I love the toffee flavor. Next, the pecan bars💃
I followed the recipe for the oatmeal cookies. I didn’t have any all purpose white flour so I used whole wheat white flour. The texture was so dry it wouldn’t roll into a ball on a cookie sheet. So I added another whole egg and some extra oil. They turned out delicious.

I've made both of these recipes. They're awesome. A good substitute if you don't like raisins is craisins (dried cranberries).
Excellent idea!
At Christmas time, I like sub craisins and add white chocolate chips.
how many cookies you made
Jason Mizuno I added chopped dried apricots instead of raisins and my friends lived it!
