Struggling to hold the 15m² Kite in the air

  • As mentioned in the previous video, there has been another day in Pohara. As you can see the sun was shining and it´s been a beautiful day. The wind was just tad lower than in the other video. It amazes me what difference a knot or two in wind speed can enable.
The KauperXT Nerio 15m² is just a brilliant kite. In lower winds you will struggle when you push your limits. But with this kite you will struggle less :)
In the end I just gave up on riding and just played with it in the air. As you can see the wind jumped above what the kite needs to fly and then dropped below, jumped up again.

Oh Buds... I've been there many times. I know the feeling! The struggle is REAL! haha. Im 90kg and the biggest kite I need to use with a 1200cm front wing is my 10m. You just have to loop the sheit of out her to get up and going.. in 8knots. If shes lighter than this.. good luck... huge foil kites are require IMHO. I dont run foil kites and Im a relative newbie on the foil still.. but you should be able to get away with a much lighter kite (max 12M) the 15m is really more for TT riding when lighter winds are out. Again IMHO.

The kite used in this Video is a 15m KauperXT Nerio. It´s a special kite for lightwind and foiling. The weight of this 15m kite is at about 3,1kg - for a kite in this size this is insane.
This kite is a beast in low wind conditions, be it foil or twintip. The wind on that day was just too low. I recon below 4 knots with lulls to absolute zero and gusts to 5 maybe 6.
I´ve had foil kites in the past and used them regualary. From my experience you wouldn´t have taken out a foil kite on that day too.

In a light wind situation like this on a foilboard do you think you could get away with a smaller (13m^2) lightweight kite designed for foiling? Something that launches a bit easier when wet. It seemed like once that kite got a little soggy it did not want to launch.

I have to admit, my expertise in this field is not high enough to answer your question. Might be the case, might not.
I´ve had a 15m² single strut kite in the past, I´ve had a 18m² foil kite. You get to know lightwind and develop a certain skill for situations like these. I couldn´t even get the kite up while walking backwards steadily in the waist deep water.

Haha, wouldn´t have worked with any flysurfer product in these conditions :)

That is absolutely not true, hybrid will fly in these conditions 100%. Add a big wing foil board and you are golden
