      @@KnowArt Found what I remembered, and it's actually an interestingly different construction: PAL video glass delays.
      It delays the color signal by 64 microseconds (I don't know the entire specifics, just remember how the whole color signal in PAL is an off-phase, or was it fully time delayed, wave superimposed on the signal), and that allows comparison between previous and current scan line.
      Works with a piezoelectric transducer in two corners, one as a transmitter, the other as a receiver, and the signal travels through the quartz glass for those 64 us until it reaches the other end.
      As UA-cam loves deleting comments with links, I'm not gonna post one but if you check "Delay-line memory" on Wikipedia, the specific part on the PAL crystal delays shows the device, "ultrasonic delay line" on Google shows some good pictures as well.

    Should be noted that the whole tradeoff you are talking about between the bandwidth of the signal (set of frequencies you are interested in) and the amount of information that can be transmitted per second through that signal, is a consideration shared by the source of the signal and not just the receiver, and does not necessarily have anything to do with the physical mechanism of this device.

    Incredible video! I never knew about this, but the concept is so intriguing!
    A lot of people were talking about the mouth thing, and i didn’t even give it a second thought until i saw the comments complaint about it, it just seemed to flow with your style or something, so i just went with it. I wasn’t able to make out what you were saying though, was it synched up with the speech?
    As always, incredible animations though, I think this channel really packs a punch when it comes to teaching things, the visualization helps so much! How do you do these animations‽‽‽

    • @KnowArt
      @KnowArt  2 місяці тому +1

      thanks for the kind words. I make my animations using bigbrain1996 running on cheese sandwiches. I sometimes use advanced calculators for the final polish. But I've found them pretty clunky

    Can you do a follow up short explaining how new data standards can transmit more data? For example comparing 3G, 4G and 5G. How do they get a performance boost, is it from these filters mostly or a combination of things?

    • @KnowArt
      @KnowArt  3 місяці тому

      could be interesting! Bandwidth is determined by a lot of factors, but I guess the leading cause of faster speeds with 5g is the (much) higher frequencies used. So high even that these saw filters don't work anymore I believe!

    Big fan of your videos. I have a suggestion though. When you do outside recordings, don't be afraid of capturing a "less clean" audio track there and then. It's a bit distracting when your voice sounds overdubbed!
    It's completely fine, and more natural sounding, to go between field-captured audio when you're on the screen, and studio audio when we're seeing animations.

      Thanks! These long form videos are a whole process to figure out. I have since bought some lav mics so hopefully no more overdubbing

    i don't remember much school past "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell", so I'm unaware if there is some reason directionality doesn't matter here. Would it not matter if the filter is situated perpendicular to the wave?
