I notice all that changes. I dont hate changes. I hate being robbed blind by greedy corporates.
Yes, because government regulations and taxes have nothing to do with it.
Ah, a Biden voter. Inflation is hitting all of us, including corporations. They don’t want to raise prices, but they also want to make a profit and be able to pay their bills, much like we do. It’s like you asking for a raise in order to keep up with rising prices. And then the company you work for has to find a way to pay increasing wages. It’s a nasty little cycle. It’s called inflation, a side effect of unchecked government spending and printing more money, decreasing the value of the dollar. Vote wisely this November.
@@pandorasrevelations9873 no, they hasnt. Bear in mind Corporations have already huge Tax Cuts..

Haven't started the list yet, but the "Didn't this use to look bigger?" hook reminded me of summer vacation last week. We had a pack of peanut butter Oreos and a pack of Double Stuff Oreos, and noticed that there wasn't much "Double" to the "Stuff," so we stacked two peanut butters, compared it to one of the Double Stuffs, and came to the conclusion that there was almost no difference between a regular Oreo and a Double Stuff one. Shrinkflation is just sad.
Yeah the new double stuff is what the originals used to be while the originals have half as much as before. I remember when the double stuff actually looked like someone doubled the cream of a regular Oreo. It's that way with the Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches, too. They used to be 3/4 the length and almost double the thickness, now they're the same thickness as the regular ones while still being 3/4 the length the you're just getting less for your money.
@@SesshouFan22yup. Fat Boys arent fat no more. Bought box two weeks ago amd thought the same exact thing! They feel different in my hand too!!!! Dont get me started on Oreos! 😮

Not to mention competition. It makes sense for people to eventually have enough and stop buying that product so that the corporations would pay the price for their shady business practices; oh wait, too many people choose to submit to them! Never mind!

One thing I noticed was hen you mentioned Kraft mac and cheese , I remember when I was younger, the cheese was darker, and tasted better, now the cheese is paler and tastes terrible.
I got a Toblerone for Christmas from a friend, opened it, and was completely baffled because I hadn’t had a Toblerone in years but remembered the peaks being more curved. Still slightly scarred

According to recent news, shrinkflation may not be legal for much longer if lawmakers have a say. That doesn’t mean it’ll stop since most companies do so much illegal activities. But at the very least it could be a step in the right direction for us consumers.
Working in product development and branding, I have faith at least some kind of law will eventually be passed to discourage the more offensively deceptive practices shown here. As for small changes to make the products healthier and safer, I’m all for that but with transparency and openness to the public for feedback.
What do you mean us consumers? Everyone is a consumer
@@the_flying_chihuahuaI believe that’s exactly what they said.
Guess I'm a little different than most customers, I ALWAYS look at the ounces on everything...and can catch them "red-handed" at trying to scheme us. 😮
Hurray! I found someone like myself. I notice change quickly as a rule due to watching the ozś and ingredients. I feel were all being robbed.
@@aunt_b3365 It's all about making a bigger profit for corporate....at least you and I are aware of it.
Me too! I thought I was the only weird guy counting ounces and watching things change. I've been telling my wife for years the packages are getting smaller and the quality is out the window
Yea I remember looking at a package of Black Diamond cheese slices with 22 slices in there when a week prior they were 24. I was dead broke at the time, practically homeless and this change meant I went a day or 2 without cheese. Back then I could eat for a month off $20 worth of groceries. That's no longer possible.

Shrinkflation sucks! I'm fed up with it! Bring back normal sizes already! I mean, "large" size boxes of cereal used to be regular sized. Now, they call this a "large". Our "Family size" was our "large" back then. And the "Giant" size we have now was our "large" then
Oh well, cerial is horrible. Kids should never eat that garbage. Kids are mentally ill on drugs due to poor diet. Cereal is top of the list for trash.
The MoM cereal bags used to be enormous, now they’re only slightly bigger than the name brand but often more expensive
I actually found that bagged cereal gives you a lot more cereal if you’re looking for cold cereal and I also found that if you’re looking to buy bigger sizes, you should try either Costco or the one associated with Walmart even if you have to pay a membership fee it’s still less expensive in the long run and I found that out with Costco‘s water.
I figured out that if Costco has a basic membership for 60 bucks a year and you buy approximately 20 cases of water with the amount of money that you save between that place and Kroger by the time you pay for 20 cases you are saving the $60 you need because at Kroger the water is approximately seven or more dollars a case and at Costco it’s around four dollars a case so in the end 20 to 22 cases of water from Costco will save you money which means that the cost is very much different and this is just water we’re talking about it might be surprising to figure out what else they give a better deal on
@jeremytoney9367 Bagged cereal may be more cost effective, but most of the cereals are full of sugar and not much fiber or essential nutrients. Shredded wheat is the exception, but it also dissappears quickly. Boxes have a lot more variety, and a lot more fiber- rich brands
@@petermiller4953 shredded wheat is just garbage too. Delusional to think any cereal is even kinda healthy
Whiska's Perfect Portions wet cat food used to come in a 100gram package. The company split the package in half, added more packaging, but each 'half' is only 37.5 grams. Same price but you're missing 1/4 of the cat food.

Actually I believe stuff like this is what makes a time machine somewhat practical. If I had a time machine, I myself would be a little bit nostalgic. I would probably go back to some of the restaurants that I like that are no longer around. I would also use it too shopping for better deal and to get the products that I remember growing up with which have changed today.
I’m thankful our family stopped eating food like products about 8 years ago. We don’t eat anything that has artificial ingredients or flavors. Only sprouted breads, no seed oils in any form, and no refined sugars aside from coconut and maple sugar in our coffee.
Subway in the UK isn't legally allowed to say "eat fresh", because their vegetables are flash frozen (as is their meat, which is made of a paste + meat glue and isn't actually pieces of steak etc). Their "bread" is classified as cake due to the massive volumes of sugar in it and their sauces might as well be frosting.
🤢
That's gross! You make me glad I stopped eating there years ago.
So basicly it's a big cake with other gross things?
@@leydeebug202 Yep its essentially a sugarloaf cake with sugared garlic mayo/sugared chili sauce, and defrosted vegetables and glued-together meat cubes.
Flash frozen is actually fresher than fresh. The rest is undeniably deplorable
McDonald's fries used be fried in a beef tallow and were, for a few decades, considered the best tasting fast food fries worldwide. Then they changed to vegetable oil for health reasons, I think, and all of that flavor was lost.
My favorite fries are Chick-fil-A fries
They didn't change the oil for health reason. McDonalds and all the others think only MONEY. They shit on you and your "health".

A few years ago. Toilet paper rolls became, much more narrow. Our toilet paper holders. They could only store 4 rolls, now they store 5.
Usually a certain global affliction gets blamed for that. Most TP manufacturers took about 3cm off the side of the roll while keeping the length intact. This kept it the proper "puffiness" while still skimping the product.
They may have removed artificial yellow 5 & 6 but it was replaced with "sunset yellow" which is still an artificial colour and dangerous to those who can't consume artificial colours and flavors. (M.C.A.S. OR Histamine Intolerance) and it's in everything and I mean EVERYTHING. My latest shock this week?... Hickory Sticks have artificial red, yellow AND blue in them yet they aren't even colourful! Check ALL LABELS folks!!
Sure glad i quit eating that trash. 10 yrs ago doctors said i had max 5 yrs to live and i was on so many pills. Started buying healthy foods mostly direct from farmers. Off all those chemical pills and healthier now then 10 yrs ago. All that garbage food is killing us.

I can tell the difference between old and new kraft Mac and cheese. I miss the old stuff, I don't care about color but it changed the taste too. It's not in my head either because I noticed it before I realized it had changed.
Yes I agree with you the taste got real bad way back, also the package says it feeds 4 people? Guess I am 4 people now! 🤣🤣🤣
Shrinkflation. That actually started during the 2008 crash. I remember ice cream companies jumping on that first. 1 pint 160z went to 14 oz think it dropped to 12oz now.

Remember: Corporations *ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.* All they care about is Your Money in Your Pockets, and nothing else, so whenever a company does the Shrinkflation, they are not thinking about the people buying the product, they only care about the Profits they make and the money they cash up on.
Also, on this list, I do believe the Domino's Pizza section showcases when corporation owners put aside their greed and actually do the right thing. They shouldn't be just an example for all the other companies listed in the video, but also every other company in the world.
Yeah
That’s true! All these corporations really care about money. And that’s fucked up 😂 and at the expense of fucking up people’s expectations and health☠️😂

2:39 Gatorade actually introduced the hourglass bottle over 4 years ago - it was just available in different stores. Gas stations and vending machines and it, but grocery stores had the original. It’s only recently that it’s become the only bottle available
In my country since this year it is illegal to make changes to product sizes without warning the customer about the change! Basically the retailers have to put out big warning signs for a few months if there's a change in any products' usual packaging size. Like : WARNING U GET LESS FOR THE SAME PRICE!
Not sure about the recipe changes.
Well, that seems like a great idea! Hope it happens here
2016 is mentioned a few times here. Shrinkflation wasn't preparation for things to come, it was a response from businesses to things that had happened the years prior.
But, yes, they did keep the same prices and size/quantity in most all cases.
I work at a grocery store, I see these changes firsthand, because I see a LOT of it.

Honestly, I think that people should decrease the size of their stores at this rate of decreasing items.
Most of the foods that took out the food coloring, replaced in with a plant that's was in the nut category. Every day we go to the store and find annatto added for color. This sucks with a family member allergic to nuts. So if anyone has ever felt sick after having something that has it in it and a nut allergy, now you know.
My brother bought a case of airheads and I swear to God there's like an inch of dead space inside each of the wrappers.
back in my days...I mean like early 2000s.
I always had trouble to open them because they were always filled from top to bottom, leaving no space to open it without ripping the candy itself.
I love the Coca-cola story because most people who didn't know which was which preferred New Coke, but people hate change and so rallied against something that most would've liked better. Imagine a car company making their cars quieter and more energy efficient and then having people whine about it "not sounding the same"
Magnum ice creams! Thank you again for exposing the greedy shrinkflation techniques so many companies have employed
12:45 I know. Products advertise “no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors” or “whole grain”, but it doesn’t make it any more nutritional. Some of the removals may be better for health; but it doesn’t really make that big of a difference. And unless you’re going to go all organic, you’re going to get all of those things from other sources
Oreos, I have a lot to say about this tiny biscuit. Why on earth they were allowed to be sold inn Australia I have no idea. The thing is we have better tasting biscuits and cookies than those tasteless things. The only 1 good thing I will say is they are so small that the kids don't get a massive sugar hit.Honestly we have a better chocolate biscuit called delta creams.
I'm here in the U.S. but agree with you about Oreos! Most cookies/biscuits and what is being sold as bread here are not that great & yet they continue to add more unhealthy ingredients, fillers & preservatives while reducing size & raising prices. Enjoy your Delta Creams!
Did you know th at general Mills put Tri sodium phosphate in cinnamon toast crunch, lucky charms ect.
I just checked the bag of Cinnamon toast crunch and sure enough trisodium phosphate is an ingredient. Trisodium phosphate is also a powdered cleaner. I used to use that to clean floors!
Canned tuna salad was hands down my favourite sandwich as a kid, but in recent years it's been more difficult to make more than one sandwich per can.
Realized why when I looked at the weight. It was 8oz per can way back when, then shrank to 7oz, now it's only 5.
Curiously this does not afflict certain retailers as the last 12pk of canned tuna I purchased (sometime last month) was 12 cans, 7oz each, for roughly the same price as 12 individual 5oz cans.
7:12 Woody Harrelson is not going to be pleased to find this out!! 😁
What they should do is completely remove dyes and get rid of at least 50% of the sweeteners
Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I've always hated Twinkies.
Same. I have never been a fan.
Same
My mom was happy when companies removed artificial dyes from products. She has an allergy to them. I have always noticed when something shrinks, changes flavors, etc. And Domino's has always sucked and still does.
One thing I noticed from McDonald's, and probably other fast food, is that when you add a ingredient like Mac sauce they charge you $0.25. but if you minus the ingredient like Mac sauce, they don't lower the price.
This is a perfect example of how infinite growth isn't possible. I wonder if companies will ever realize this before society collapses.
Uhh, if the new Twinkies had "left the recipe alone", they would've gone bankrupt again within a year or two because the high cost/waste of the old kind was losing them money. Is that somehow a better option?
I remember having a giant Toblerone 😂

19:53 Am a Brit (South Wales, UK) and I gotta say that the change was actually better, as it wasn't overly sweet like having a mouthful of sugar, it became more fruity and can taste more citrus in it now 🍊
It felt weird tasting the US & EU version as it was more sugary sweet than citrus, that I actually asked for my drink to be switched with Coke Zero or a lemonade. (For context I was in a restaurant outside of the UK, and asked the server if I could change my drink as I couldn't drink it after a sip. The nice server switched it and took off the Fanta)
I totally understand what you mean, I never drank Fanta before but tried it in 2019 and liked it. I didn't realise that it was less sugar only in the UK (where I live in West England), so when I visited Florida and bought a bottle thinking it was the same, I literally choked at how sugary it was, I made my sister try it (she likes sugary drinks) but even she didn't like it, saying "it tastes like a just had a tablespoon full of sugar" 🤢 we checked each drinks sugar context percentage after that, so we didn't get a repeat of the sugar Fanta.
After a long day, here comes be amazed

In the 80's to the early 90's. The Fanta came I. Juice boxes and the taste were really good. It was my favorite juice back then.
But suddenly, it went from juice to soda, and the taste wasn't the same. I still miss those juice boxes 😥
Just so you know anything that’s mass-produced in a box is dangerous like oat meal, cereal, milk, macaroni and more

I saw a new video the other day from a McDonalds patron. In it, she showed that inside the bun was a 'meat' patty that was noticeably thinner than the single, measly, pickle chip. Jimmy Dean breakfast croissants, significantly smaller than they used to be, while as far as I can remember, have not gone down in price.
We need a part two!
I have not bought or eating any Toblerone since they did that stunt.
If all the big companies just listened to feedback about their product, I think the world might be a better place.

Dude… I was wondering why Kraft mac and cheese went from yellow to greeny yellow. Everyone thought I was dumb but now I can confirm I’m not
Thank you for bringing up the issue with soft drinks in the UK being ruined by this stupid, greedy sugar tax, They were already about double the price compared to mainland European countries anyway and now many are off the list altogether for me and many others, due to the noxious Saccharin and the poisonous Aspartame.
Tim Tam an Australia favourite has gotten less. They redesigned the packaging so the pack remained the same size on the outside but inside they rechanged the inner tray so that the chocolate biscuits are now spaced further apart and you get less in the pack.
Also remember when Peters Light & Creamy ice cream also shrunk from 2 litres to 1.8 litres while still charging the same price.
Sugar tax in the uk was passed on to consumers anyway not paid by the producing company
So many items you can make from scratch or your own version that most people will stop buying the rip off product and make their own. Companies will lose out in the end and the consumer wins!!
Of all the products mentioned we have bought only two. Campbell's chicken noodle soup, which we haven’t bought in years now and Breyers, with their humongous shrinkflashion, is now baned in this as well.
I actually did notice the change in Kraft. But honesty, it is so minor. I had forgotten it was changed until you brought it up.
