That's the meaning behind a takedown. But in the UFC judging, any takedown attempt is scored like the one attempting is winning the fight. It's almost like you go around throwing punches against a opponent, the guy deflects all of them, but you carry the fight because you was being the aggressor. It's against every reasoning in martial arts.

watching this again, max's takedown defense and ability to get up are always underrated. like you see how strong volk is vs other guys and he really couldn't do much with the takedowns here. in the 3rd fight, he was just way too fucking fast and crisp, and that shot that cut max open opened up an already existing gap. i still think max won this one, but after the 3rd fight, there was no doubt in my mind that volk was the pfp best fighter on the planet
No doubt huh? I have quite a few doubts after his lackluster performance against Makhachev. I am completely unbiased in the fact that I have nothing vested in either guy winning or losing. I watched that fight repeatedly just to be as balanced as possible, and every time I watched it I saw only 30 seconds where Volk was useful in the fight. And Volk fans have a hard time facing that fact. They think that winning 30 seconds of a 25 minute fight means that Volk should have walked away victorious. But, that's not how things work. Volk should have lost this fight with Holloway (2) and he definitely lost against Makhachev as well. In fact Makhachev pretty much dropped Volk twice in that fight.

The championships rounds were close but i gave them to Volk.

I knew if Volk won the third fight, everyone would act as if he won this fight as well. That wasn't the case, most MMA media members scored this for Max and most fighters did too. That being said, doesn't really matter since Volk outclassed him in the third.
It goes down to the third round. Max won the first two and Alexander won the last 2. Honestly it could've gone either way, could've been a draw if they allowed that in their scoring system.
Volk hit 1 knee for a split second which could have been from a slip as well as the punch togheter, it was more of an off balanced KD not a concussed one couse Volk popped back up like nothing happened and fired back. So he wasn't dropped on his ass badly or anything, i can see why they don't count it as a legit KD

People forget volk was woken up by usada at 3am for a drug test the day of the fight. And took melatonin to try and get back to sleep, which if anyone has taken, makes you drowsy af the next day. Can’t imagine volk felt great this fight

I've watched this fight about 7 seven times, and all I can say is this: Max for sure won rounds 1&2, but that means absolutely nothing in a 5 round fight. Yes, Volkanovski was dropped twice, but he got right back up and continued fighting, and didn't really look any worse for wear (in my humble opinion of course). He also seemed to get stronger as the fight went on, and landed the harder shots, and he definitely won rounds 4&5. Round 3 was a toss-up, but I believe Volkanovski JUST managed to steal it by (again) landed harder shots. It really was a close fight. I love Max, and I wouldn't have been upset if he'd won, but I vehemently disagree that he was robbed. And the fact that Volkanovski completely dominated him in the third fight definitely proves he is the better fighter of the two. And really, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what everybody thinks: Volk is 3-0 against Max. So put that in your back pocket.

Otherwise, the round looked fairly competitive from my vantage point. A knockdown doesn’t automatically guarantee a 10-8 round to me.

Even Valk talked about Max's chin in this last post fight interview. I believe Valk will be at the top of that division for awhile.

Volk hit 1 knee for a split second which could have been from a slip as well as the punch togheter, it was more of an off balanced KD not a concussed one couse Volk popped back up like nothing happened and fired back.

Then in the third fight volkanovski absolutely dominated and wins 50-45 and wins. Whether max wins the second fight or not it doesn’t matter either volk is 3-0 or 2-1

I've watched this fight about 7 seven times, and all I can say is this:
Max for sure won rounds 1&2, but that means absolutely nothing in a 5 round fight. Yes, Volkanovski was dropped twice, but he got right back up and continued fighting, and didn't really look any worse for wear (in my humble opinion of course). He also seemed to get stronger as the fight went on, and landed the harder shots, and he definitely won rounds 4&5. Round 3 was a toss-up, but I believe Volkanovski JUST managed to steal it by (again) landed harder shots.
It really was a close fight. I love Max, and I wouldn't have been upset if he'd won, but I vehemently disagree that he was robbed. And the fact that Volkanovski completely dominated him in the third fight definitely proves he is the better fighter of the two. And really, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what everybody thinks: Volk is 3-0 against Max. So put that in your back pocket.
Max won rounds 1-3. Round 1 also should've been a 10-8 round. But like Dana said a long time ago, don't put the fight in the judges hand's.

Round 1 for sure should've been a 10-8. He hurt him bad enough to warrant a 10-8, on top of all the damage he did that round as well? Anytime it's a close fight, you never know with these judges and out of date scoring system. A system that is for boxing, not MMA honestly.
@@joeschmo247 see, for me, a 10-8 round is complete domination throughout the fight. The knockdown in round one happened at the very end, and as I said: Volk got right back up. Otherwise, the round looked fairly competitive from my vantage point. A knockdown doesn’t automatically guarantee a 10-8 round to me.

I don't think just a knockdown automatically makes it a 10-8 round. But put that, with what max did to Valk in the first round, I personally would've scored it 10-8. Either way, Valk proved everyone that doubted him wrong in this last fight. There's no denying this last fight who won, but still Max never got knockdown. Which is insane knowing how Max fights. Even Valk talked about Max's chin in this last post fight interview.
I believe Valk will be at the top of that division for awhile.
