A lot of Vintage 888/24 and 192io and 96io
@@B__Mer so sad , it is true
seriously considering pulling the trigger on a Volt 276 or if i can find one used at a decent price a 476 but also wondering if thats overkill for a pauper like me who would be just as content with a Guided By Voices, Sebadoh or Pavement production level as say Mutt Lang , Steve LilllyWhite or Visconti , i hate to spend extra money if all i really need is an M Audio Duo or an Air 192/6 , i feel so confused i'm considering changing my name to Vinnie Barbarino (yes i just aged myself with that outdated subreference)

Your version of "Time after Time" would make producer Rick Chertoff proud! Excellent review Warren... your production skills are second to none!!! Even with the heavy compression by UA-cam... I can still hear the high quality of the PreSonus ES2 & HD8 interfaces. 🎶🎹🎶🎸
That;s very kind of you! It was simple, Nick played a very straightforward acoustic guitar version, I then slowed it down, Becca sang over the acoustic and a simplified drum part that I had Luca play! Luca then sang and then I put electric and finished with the Bass part!

An HD4 would be greatly appreciated! Beautiful version of a timeless classic guys and gal! 😊
Came here for the audio interface, but got lost in the song. That's what an audio interface should enable musicians to do. Nice review.
Thanks ever so much Jasper!
I downloaded the session but I haven't mixed it yet. I just come back every other day to watch this!!!!!
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much
Warren that bass riff during the verses is amazing. Funny thing I"ve always heard it in my head pretty much this way and now you just did it, cool :)
Glad you like it! I was just following the amazing melody! The vocal leads the way
@@Producelikeapro yes, exactly. This is one of those songs where literaly 4-5 notes makes the magic (especially in the verses). I've been also fooled by the non-existing third chord there when tried to play it at the first time :)
Been thinking about upgrading my interface to the RME Fireface UCX II… now Presonus releases these interfaces and I am on Studio one. Now I don’t know what to do, those HD8 interfaces look very interesting, especially for me as a Studio One user.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
What a soulful rendition of this song. Sounds great.
Thanks ever so much!
These look beautiful. Very clean looking.
Will have to look into the specs of these more closely.
Please do! Let me know what you find out, interested to hear what people think!
That HD8 looks really cool. Nice to see something again with 2 Adat ins! More and more rack units of that size only allow one these days.
Marvellous! Yes, indeed Chris
Not sure if this is a good upgrade from my PreSonus 1824. I like having a dedicated knob on every input and output. I think fiddling around with buttons and having one knob is inconvenient....
Best video on the tube..he shows you how it works not just talk about what features it has 😂
Might have to check one out with the added features .... Although I do love my Quantum 2626. It's just fantastic.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Just got the ES4 the perfect setup for me with its 4 mic inputs.
Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic production! Love the duet. Thanks for the multitracks
Thanks ever so much!
The mic pre’s are transparent, it’s easy to use, comes with a GREAT DAW, and EVERY bit as important…..the latency is spectacular. And, all for $1K. I’m not sure anyone else out there is competing with that. I do wish Presonus would come out with another mic-pre unit for those of us who need more than 8. Come to think of it, why is Antelope & Roland the only company making a 12mic pre interfaces??? I digress…. Short of that, this unit looks outstanding for those of us on a budget with zero tolerance of unintuitive technology. Thanks for sharing!
Presonus is that AMAZING company that just keeps producing great gear and software that is reliable and easy to use!
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
A drummer on backing vocals? What manner of unprecedented witchcraft is this? 🙂 Great work, Warren and ensemble 👍
Haha it happens!
What an absolutely gorgeous cover! Great arrangement, angelic voice, beautiful mixing and mastering! This de-80s'd version is better than the original to my ears, except that I _do_ miss Cyndi's voice.
Thanks ever so much
Good video Warren. The voice of Luka(Drummer Bvs) is amazing.
Marvellous!
Very good sounding interface. Lots of features, clean, un-hyped preamps. I've had several Presonus interfaces which have been very useful. I get tempted to sell my expensive rig and move in this direction. I would connect it to my clock/master clock rig. Happy they provided the word clock I/O. Thanks Warren. I'm going to have a look at that Yamaha guitar as well. Almost forgot to answer your question. I'm running a UA Apollo x8P.
It looks like they took a page from my Antelope Orion Studio. It's very similar to it.
Interesting, I also have one of those! Do you mean the look of the ES2?
@@Producelikeapro both the look and some of the features. I love my Orion.
@@Feerlyss intersting! Looking at both in front of me, they are both black and a rectangle! Haha other than that not sure there can be any proprietary design issues
I really like Presonus. Big fan of their ecosystem. Im currently using the Studio 192 and it still works and sounds fantastic. I would love to try their new Quantum HD 8. The only thing i wish they would continue to make is an updated version of their DP88. They dont offer any 8 channel preamps anymore. I feel like they would sell a ton of them if they made a new DP88 with all the new HD 8 features similar to the DP88 paired with the Studio 192.
We appreciate that feedback. Thank you!
@@presonus thank you for listening 😁
@@presonus Owner of a first generation Quantum here, you can add my vote for bringing back the DP88! I'm having a hard time sourcing one (or two ideally) at a reasonable price.
Interesting acoustic guitar. A Tremeleuc ( French builder) which was a vague copy of a Lowden, built under license in the 80'/ 90's by Eastern guitar operations. Great video as ever.
Should have added, What a song !
@@GaryD6120 thanks! Glad you enjoyed the recording!
I have the Quantum 2 in my studio and I have one major issue with it (and the new one), the main outputs are 1 & 2 for monitors and that throws off using hardware inserts in pro tools. Since pro tools needs to have inputs matched with outputs (input 1 and output 1 etc). The way they have it laid out you can't use it like that since everything is off by 2.
You still have channels 3-8 for inserts. Also you can still use channels 1&2 for recording into pro tools. Then inputs and outputs 3-8 can be used as inserts (example- output 3, into "compressor", output of compressor into input 3 of interface, etc)
Presonus PLEASE bring back the Quantum 4848!!!
Yes, pretty please!
YESS!
As someone who currently owns two discontinued 4848’s - YESS, bring it back!
What's the difference between that and this unit?
Yes!!!
how do these mic preamps compare to the Focusrite Clarrett+ pre amps? im debating these two to buy
I haven't done a direct comparison so I can't honestly say. I don't like to have opinions on things like that unless I've actually AB'd them. The full song was recorded through them, so be sure to download them and hear for yourself. Many thanks, Warren
Very, very good and interesting introduction to these interfaces. Unfortunately I don‘t need another audio interface (I have 5 already: an Antelope ZenQ TB, a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, an Apogee Boom, a UAD Volt 1 and the Monitor controller Mackie BigKnob Studio+, which also offers audio interface capabilities, I wished an SPL monitor controller, like you have, but the newest model, which is a very expensive piece of gear for a hobby musician like me). Well, if I needed one it could be one of these Presonus Quantum ones, although I don‘t know if the microphone amplifiers can compete with those expense ones, like the Apollos, Antelopes etc.) Thanks for this perfect overview …
Warren, the website reads 32-bit/192 for the HD2 and HD8. Some reviewers are saying it’s 32-bit float. Can you clarify that this does not produce 32-bit floating point’s dynamic range to track…or does it? Thanks….who needs auto gain on a 32-bit floating device? Maybe it’s Studio One that can record to 32-bit floating even though the device doesn’t produce that range.
That was very nicely done cover Warren, thank you! :)
Glad you liked it! Many thanks!

Warren...you've answered this below but I wanted to be positive that the pres can be bypassed completely (converters bypassed). Is that on all pre channels of the HD8 or just two? Thanks.
I'm having issues with the quantum es 4 on a M2 pro macmini 2023 the unit is not getting enough power. The USB logo flashes red. Is connected via USB c. I tried on MacBook air M2 and it works fine. 🤷♀️. I got it for the macmini tho. Troubleshooting it to see if I can find a fix.
32 bit is the next level.
RIP missed the giveaway. How does the HD8 Compare to the Quantum 2 Thunderbolt ? On paper they look really similar to me. I'm trying to find an interface I can use with my active ribbon mic (se electronics VR2).
If this new HD line had a "4" port version and a price close to the HD2- I'd be set to go 😅
I hope PreSonus comes out the Quantum 4848 in HD with Tascam DB25 connects like they did the first run.
Hmmm, I wonder how the ES 2 and 4, even the HD 2 would work as a standalone audio interface with the Akai MPC Key37 Standalone. The ES Series seems to be class compliant (w/out the use of an external power supply), however the HD 2 does look like it as well but with the need for a power supply. In addition to that, will the Control App be needed, and/ or useful in the Akai MPC Key 37 as a standalone? Meaning, would I also be able to control the perimeters of the Audio Interfaces within the MPC Key 37? I'm trying to go the routed of DAW-less music creation.
It is class compliant, we just plugged it in and off it went! As for whether it would work in that scenario that would be a question for PreSonus themselves
@@Producelikeapro Plug and play? Like, you plugged it in an MPC standalone and it worked? Yesssss!!!!
Thanks for the reply!!!!!
Interesting they decided to drop the thunderbolt connection. No more daisy chaining the new quantums!
Yes, Thunderbolt does cost quite alot to add to a unit though, so it ,might be a cost thing? I didn't ask! I should have in retrospect!
@@Producelikeapro sadly thunderbolt is vanishing everywhere, not just macs. for windows it's even harder to get these days. spend A LOT of money extra to have a current generation motherboard supporting thunderbolt cards. there are very few left
Very pricey and actually pretty hard to find thunderbolt controllers. Plus you automatically exclude 70% of the world from buying your product, so very understandable.
There should be no problem getting them synced with no latency penalty like I’ve done with the Thunderbolt units. Probably requires direct connection to the host or a thunderbolt dock to work correctly, though. But in standalone, you could use a second unit via ADAT and avoid the data connection issues.
@@chrismonaut
That's because USB-C Gen3 is literally just as fast as Thunderbolt 4, but much more universal.
13:30 It would have been at jewel if the SE4 would have Optical in-out for at least 20ch like the AUDIENT iD44 MKII
DO you have a video doing AUDIENT VS PRESONUS HD8 comparison?
Minimalistic controls look nice but I'd rather have separate knobs instead of one knob that does 20 things. Also, it's a must for me to have at least 2 headphone ports.
I got the Quantum 26x32 and it’s a killing interface. Anyone care to outline the differences with the new 8 channel one?
Can someone tell me if a the Quantum HD2 is $500 for the actual quality of sound, or its just a $200 quality interface with a $400 daw bundled in it?
Software for me is an amazing bonus, you're paying for the hardware.
Y'all sound amazing!!!!!
Thanks ever so much!
@@Producelikeapro I love that song as well!!!
@@iengineer_247 marvellous! Me too!
I was concerned with luck of live monitoring knob..but now I see that main and headphone have separate control would it mean that I can control bleed from recorded sound vs headphones monitoring input?
I am little lost here.. how the live monitoring is dealt here without knob or push button?
I know we could use daw I monitoring but this with plugins would create latency…
This is a tough call for me...
I had pretty much convinced myself to purchase the latest MOTU 828. High quality, many ins/outs, MIDI, good latency numbers, excellent AD/DA action, bypassable pres (important), etc.
Then, Presonus finally upgrades their dated interfaces wiith this new line, particularly the HD interfaces. I use Studio One and have a Faderport8. Compatibility/integration should be excellent AND easy.
Both the MOTU and Presonus interfaces I'm interested in go for $995 American. Once again, just as I was about to get over my latest information paralyzation after comparing Audient id24/48?, Focusrite Clarett 4Pre, SSL 12 and go with the 828...the Presonus drops. My guess is, can't go wrong with either. Presonus has more pres. That's an edge. Ahhhhhhhh! What to do!
The PreSonus HD8 also has reamp outputs, 75dB of preamp gain and 121dB on 32 Bit Converters. Plus you also get 12 months of Studio One Plus as well as a perpetual license of Studio One Professional.
@@TheRickdoggie
The 32-bit converters caught my attention. I think it's the future. The SSL 12 had caught my attention because of that.
@@rjb7569 I totally agree with you.
The 828 has 32bit converters as well.
@@electricwhiterabbit
The latest I came up with on that, is that they are 32 bit integer, not 32 bit float which would be more advantageous as far as I can tell. I'm not too clear on it. Presonus hasn't concentrated on that feature, so I assume at this point that float is better. If they used it in these new interfaces they would be promoting it more, I assume, as that seems to be the wave of the future.
Great Scott!!! Another great piece of gear from Presonus. From the old Firestudio Project to this. Fantastic to see. Thanks very much for the review and last but not least Presonus gear will not break the bank and the quality is there. Cheers. Big thanks to the PLAP team

Wonderful review
If I'm not mistaken I hear a Precission bass and a Moog together, this makes for a nice fat bass, but with the awesome precission mids (precission and sterling bass are the best studio basses) And for the guitar I hear that they use a phaser, the effect that sometimes is being used before or after the middle eight, very 80's and 90's, Tom lord alge did a tutorial on this, it is not a standard phaser, but I don't know that particular one it mover more, it is used very delicately in the song..And imo, I personally think the chord synthersizer in the song is a touch too loud..by the way was it a roland juno 80? I have a virtual instrument of this model and the default patch remindes me of the meat and potatoes of the synth being played...cheers
Originally done on a Juno 60.
How does the HD 8’s round-trip latency compare to the Quantum 2626’s (~0.9 ms @ 192 kHz / 64 samples)? I’ll upgrade immediately if it’s the same or better!
*UPDATE:* PreSonus stated that at the above settings, RTL would be ~3 ms. Disappointing, and strange that they decided to release slower interfaces under the Quantum name when speed was the line’s primary selling point.
That really is disappointing and deceptive.
Where can I find that statement by PreSonus? I’m more interested in RTL figures at more typical sample rates like 48 kHz. If I can’t get under or near 5 ms at a 64 sample buffer at 48 kHz, that would be a dealbreaker for me.
I suspected that the latency would take a big hit when they moved to USB.
@@TheJonHolstein No mention of it's 32 bit recording capabilities in any reviews. So how is it a 32 bit audio interface?
@@thatchinaboi1 I have no idea. On the other hand 32 bit recording is just a marketing ploy. There are no microphones O have seen with over 144bB dynamic range (24 bit), and I don't think anyone has managed to do an audio path with signal to noise ratio higher than 144dB either. So the only case you might be able to make use of 32 bit, is if you set up the gain horribly wrong (typically it is the microphone that is clipping, not the limitation of 24 bit). Thunderbolt is problematic, so I get why they would want a more mainstream high end solution, but this is an extreme downgrade for the quantum line, it doesn't have daisy chaining, and I have even seen one guy manage to get two 2626 working on a windows system, despite the lack of daisy chaining in that model (and windows not supporting aggregation of sound interfaces). The stated latency number above is not exactly class leading, so I don't get the "custom low latency drivers".
My discontinued Studio 192 still looks far more superior, and its built like a tank.
I have a feeling the PUSH function on this will be the 1st thing go..
How can one add channels to this? Cheers
You can connect 2 units via ADAT or add some ADAT external preamps
Nice arrangment.
Thank you very much!
Price = Quality
So in this case would QHD2 be a 200$ quality interface with a $400 DAW bundled with it?

SO thunderbolt is dead?
Not sure it’s dead. But Microsoft isn’t doing it any favors. Apparently they released an update that removed support for using a tb1/2 device with a computer that has a tb3 port. So that made the original quantum and quantum 2 interfaces incompatible with newer pc’s. So I’m sure that’s made a lot of companies leery of using thunderbolt. At least until they’re sure MS won’t suddenly do something like that again.
@@cmatte82 it's also harder and harder to get mainboards with thunderbolt support. it's dying and it really, really sucks for audio.
Some brands completely stopping thunderbolt drivers for windows making interfaces useless also don't help (hi @ Slate...)
@@chrismonaut from what I’ve seen thunderbolt 4 and usb 4 are supposed to be more integrated. But so was usb3 and tb3. So who knows. I think it still has a chance. But I’m also not going to make any bets about its longevity.
@@cmatte82 Do you have a source for that statement? I have an original Quantum and it's still working fine with my fully up-to-date Windows 11 PC.
@@rdoursenaud I’ll look it up. I found it when I was looking to buy a quantum 4848. Im on a Mac so it wasn’t an issue for me. And if you have a thunderbolt 2 computer, it’s likely fine. It’s an issue specifically with thunderbolt 3.
