Don't sweat breaking the retaining tab off the connector. These things happen. I have a 5th iPod that developed a line across the display. Something had pressed against the LCD while it was in my backpack and damaged the screen. I got a replacement and while cleaning the iPod up and swapping the screen I broke the entire connector for the click-wheel on the logic board. It did make me quite angry at the time but then back to eBay for a replacement iPod logic board and problem solved. You can use electrical tape to hold down the fan cable. Over time with the heat the adhesive will get kinda gummy if you have to remove it again later on. Get a roll of kapton tape instead. It's not expensive and better suited for this purpose. The laptop cooler will help although it's also probably a good idea to apply new thermal paste to the cpu/gpu. Plenty of online guides for this procedure. Keep up the fantastic work!
What will the laptop cooler help with? Her laptop didn't appear to be overheating and there's no ventilation on the bottom. At best it may cool the surface temperature of the bottom panel by a few degrees, but as it doesn't act as a heatsink will have no practical effect.
@@FlyboyHelosim The cooler will elevate the laptop off the desk and allow for better airflow around and under it. It would also help to take the bottom hardshell case off as it is just adding an extra layer to the macbook. I have a 2007 MBP with the defective GPU. I can use it on a cooling pad without triggering a failure. Using it without a cooling pad causes frequent kernel panics.
@MrNorthNJ There's no ventilation underneath it so airflow under it won't do anything. And if you NEED a laptop cooler just so it won't kernel panic, that's a rather serious issue.
@@FlyboyHelosim It does not require open slots to cool the surface area. And yes, the kernel panics are due to a serious issue, that being the defective Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT gpu as I said.
30 year tech here. Saw your Linux install video. It was great! Why, because you made mistakes that newby’s make and highlighted those. Love your adventurous spirit! Keep showing the mistakes you make and how you discovered the solutions. You also make it OK to make mistakes. That helps people have the courage to tackle what seems impossible and save allot of money by not trusting Geeks to fix something they don’t really care about. Please keep putting out great videos and I wish you much success! 😊 P.S. Do buy a new fan if you think the existing fan is not working. The new fan will have the complete cable with tip. Close the latch towards the cable. Use a can of air going forward.
@stylishthriftye Nothing. You appear to have just dusted the fan out because it was dusty and making a little noise, but you didn't state that the laptop was overheating or anything. So you should just resume normal operation.
Fan blades can easily break so don’t prevent them from spinning and use a can of compressed air rather than powerful compressed air from an auto shop. Always hold the metal of the computer case for 15 seconds before touching the electronics inside to discharge your static electricity. Be gentle with soft bristles rather than use a new brush with hard bristles. I wouldn’t use a brush on fan blades because they are not very strong. Always use plastic tools when working parallel with the board. You don’t want to short components on the board.
@ You may be right. I was providing the time from my experience in computer repair and building electronic circuits. There in electronics, I used an anti-static mat with a wrist strap connected to a ground.
Hola. Get a small blower or car vaccum cleaner. I also use an aire pump from an inflatable bed. BTW, Happy New year. Is your mom Mexican? I bet you had a great Xmas dinner.
Good idea. I have a small air pump from the guest inflatable bed somewhere. My mom is Ecuadorian. WE did have a great Xmas dinner. Thank you so much. Happy New Year! :)
wasn’t that fun! I did not see but did you blow out the metal cooling fins? That is where there is a nice layer of dust. One of them I cleaned was so bad, the dust came out in one piece like a blanket 😂
Yes if you look at the design (you have the footage), the fan blows air through cooling fins that attach to the processors. The dust bunnies as you call them actually get stuck in the fins. That portion of the video was cut. You probably got them, I just was not sure. So cleaning the fins its where the party is. But if your fan is not going crazy anymore, then we got those bunnies!

Kapton tape...I learned something new today! Thanks!!

Housewife tips for computer nerds. Well done! 👍 Happy new year to you 🥂🎆

Very brave and handy!
if you're going to do the process of taking the fan out, just 4 more screws and you can replace the thermal paste for the cpu
if you do replace the thermal paste i recommend ptm 7950
@@tyrek78 Thank you!
You make it fun to do your own repairs and cleaning ..... xoxoxo
There's no ventilation on the bottom of the laptop so propping it up, or even a laptop cooling stand, will have next to no effect.
😟What happens now then?
