      @timg1097 6 років тому +7

      Well, the family of the founder of Citroën is Dutch, originally by the name Citroen. Which literally means "lemon". Eventually, because the French apparently couldn't pronounce 'Citroen', they changed their name to 'Citroën'. So yea it's actually the French who are mispronouncing it :P

    • @irov5884
      @irov5884 6 років тому +1

      @@timg1097 The French are not mispronouncing it, they added ë to the e to pronounce it in the correct way because French and Dutch don't have the same prononciation of word, but with the ë it's now pronounced the same as the original name.

    • @timg1097
      @timg1097 6 років тому +1

      @@irov5884 No, Citroen in Dutch is not pronounced the same as Citroën in French. Citroen is "Sea-troon", while Citroën is "Sea-troh-en". The French were mispronouncing the Dutch word Citroen, namely as Citroën, because I think the French don't have the vowel combination "oe" as one sound (They have words like soeur, but that's different). Eventually some French official misspelled the name Citroen as Citroën, and it stuck.

Then again, the original incarnation of Bugatti ceased to exist in 1952, the brand was acquired by an Italian in the 1980s who made the EB110 and even purchased Lotus, but in the 90s, the company failed and was sold off. No they are American companies and their technical innovations become a international accomplishment. This was France's golden age. There were many economic migrants at this time, and the businesses they built in France, were made possible because of France's growing economy. Bugatti's children all spoke French as a first language and went to school in France. My French cousins are half Sicilian half French and grew up in France and as far as they're concerned a French family. No 'Technically' Bugatti is French and was French racing blue for a reason.

I am bilingual in German and French and while in the video about the former I really couldn't detect any mispronounciations, I believe to have heard some little sounds that were off in this video. Then again, it was so little that it could also just be due to regional differences in pronounciation.

    • @The5thBeatle2010

      B VLampe I bet German is your native language because if you were used to dealing with french people in English you'd know the accent is fake. It doesn't sound french at all. BTW, he is from Zürich.

    • @bvlampe6801
      @bvlampe6801 7 років тому +5

      Both German AND French are my native languages, and I live in France. So I DO deal with french people in English. Honestly they are incredibly creative when it comes to mispronouncing so this could very well be a real french accent.

    • @The5thBeatle2010
      @The5thBeatle2010 7 років тому

      First of all he is from Zürich, so his native language is German period. Having said that.. yeah, I agree it COULD be a particular Frenchman speaking...but it would be very weird. What I'm trying to say though is that, even though he is really good with accents he fails to capture some very common stereotypical features of the french accent:
      1. First and foremost: The "r". Definitely not a french one with the exception of some parts of Alsace and Lorraine. He uses the German one, the one which you pronounce much more at the back of your throat. If you are native in both German and French (even though no matter what you say, you are more comfortable expressing yourself in one or the other) you know what I'm talking about.
      2. The i. Again it could be a Frenchman mixing things up. However, what you are trying to accomplish here is to capture the stereotypical sound and to isolate it. He is good, I agree, but he fails to do that consistently
      3. Modulation. Definitely not the cadences that you'd expect in the french language . (Which is what you are trying to accomplish)
      ...and more. I'm not going to name every little thing because it would be endless. This kind of things which are somehow misleading, are not present when he puts a German accent.

    • @bvlampe6801
      @bvlampe6801 7 років тому

      Oh I do believe you that he is from Zürich, don't worry about that. And I do not feel like being "more comfortable" in any of the two languages, although I wouldn't say it's impossible there is one I'm unconsciously preferring, I don't know about that. Also what you say sure has its merit, I'm no language expert, you're certainly correct but I'm not the right person to debate with over that topic.

    Knowing how to pronounce French car names comes in handy for when they inevitably break down and you're telling the road side assistance what car you drive.

      Mona Lisa was a gift of Leonardo Da Vinci to the king so we can say that it's "French", and we relate macarons to France because they took the recipe and then they changed the name. (the real name is maccarone)
