Give me a fence built by April Wilkerson any day! When you listen to her describe how and why she builds a fence a certain way there is no comparison. But I did build my gates with your recommendations Joe. Thanks for all the good advice!
Joe, you have to be the nicest guy alive to be so kind in your reviews of these videos. I would have more video edited out than usable if I were to record my reactions.
Hey Joe, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos in anticipation of putting in a fence at our next house-quick question for you: I’m looking for more of a traditional, decorative picket fence with more intricate details or touches. I’m split on vinyl or wood so I’m not dead set on either. My question is, would I be better off looking to go through a fence contractor, or a carpenter? Again, I’m ok with a good quality decorative vinyl fence, but is it even worth trying to find a contractor who can supply and has experience in that, or should I just go straight to looking for a carpenter to make a really beautiful, decorative fence? Thanks if you answer!!
I've been waiting for is video! So many things wrong. If you are gonna do something may as well do it right! Looking forward to the rest of the videos!
Thank you! Someone saying it as it should be said. As a contractor in springfield, i am tired of horrible work and im glad to see someone who takes peide it their work, i mean you of course although he might too, unfortunately he didnt take the time to speak with the fence expert first. haha.
Could someone explain on why you wouldn’t brace your post after setting them? We always do even tho our poles are always set adequately. Our logic is what if a storm comes thru that evening, or what if the client or their kids or even their dogs bump them after we leave for the day. Bracing them gives us peace of mind that when we get there the next morning our post are exactly where we set them yesterday.
I absolutely love watching you, a professional, trash this Jeff dude wanna be tv star without the skills! Hahaha. Me and my brother literally send each other his videos to have a laugh at Jeff’s hackery! 😂 Keep up the good work Joe!
I’ve seen some of Jeff’s videos. Some of the tips are okay, but some of them and the workflow tends to be chaotic, often incoherent. Usually he’s prescribing a less than robust way to do things. I appreciate Joe’s videos because they’re educational even when critical. Plan to put in a horizontal picket fence soon, will likely reference Joe’s videos during that project.
I think I argued against what you were saying in one of your original videos covering Jeff's fences. Don't know what I was thinking then, lol. Over the years, as I've watched more of Jeff's shit I'm continually amazed he hasn't hurt himself catastrophically or been sued out of business. The guy just wings so much shit and keeps pushing his 'cheap and easy' shtick. If I tried to put a fence in my yard like he shows here it'd be down in a year or two tops.
Post is at most 18 inches in the ground. Get the extension for the auger!! I hate the corner post. I've been building my own fence on 3/4 of acre. 2 ft level didn't do it. As you said, 4 ft min.
I'm pretty sure my fence being even remotely semi decent is my fence. I litterally eyed out a line as I walked with stakes I threw into the ground as I was walking past then ripped around with a auger attach to my hitch and speed blasted. Through 4×4 in the ground dumped a half bag of post hole cement. And through up 1 buy 6s. Looked great..still looks great that. Was 15 years ago. And the fence next door I did 15 years before that looks and feels solid as mine. They enclose 6 acres total in mid michigan. Never painted either of them once. Just sealed the ends and whatever ever the rest of the can finished..
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t use a string to get your post exactly straight and level. Some people have the “why do it right when you can do it wrong” mentality.
You do realize you are reviewing a "jack of all trades" that is giving a basic idea and courage to the homeowner that can not afford a "Joe Everest the fence expert.
I can't stand that Jeff's videos. He once said to rip out all my baseboards and flooring and throw them away and that it only takes a couple minutes to do this
that much might be true, depending on the room size and type of flooring. I have ripped up a room, baseboard and flooring in a 30 minute timeframe. I've also done it in 2 hours because of a different type of subfloor. Pretty sure in a hurry i coulda ripped 1000sqft of carpet and baseboards in under 30 minutes, but hardwood would take me hours.
@@MrAykron yeah it was hardwood floor from the 90s probably. i do flooring for a living and with 3 guys you cant haul the shit out to the truck in "a few minutes" much less demo the floor. not to mention all the nails and staples left behind that need to be removed before install. guys a half ass completion artist. shows in his work as well as in his videos
Just sharing my experience, they’re great at telling you how plumb that particular part of the post is level but if the post is warped or bowed in the least it could throw the whole thing off. To each their own, though. I appreciate you weighing in and sharing your experience!
@@JoeEverest tpu also need to stop hating on this guy! Seems to that u like to cut corners based on your response . Do you even look at your materials tou huy and see 8f they are straight...I bet you do not!!

@@JoeEverest I would have thought that Jeff learned something about building fences when reviewing your videos.
I am always a Equal Spacing kind of guy. I am also a fan of doing it right the first time and build to last.
Both are 💯 right, thanks for watching!
Totally agree with everything you said Joe 💪 I have seen all of Jeff’s videos on fencing he’s a funny guy. Can’t wait for the next review video
They get so much better/worse…
I think that post is maybe 2' in the ground and love the double string line and post bracing 😂

I need to get me one of those plastic post levels.........😂

I’d reach out to a fencing contractor first, they likely would have the vendor relationships you would need to source that material.
Jeff is a great guy to get ideas from and then find someone that knows what the heck they're doing.
His tile videos had me swinging at air.

Joe ! You can’t stop messing with this guy 😂😂😂 until he stops doing fences 😂
Absolutely not, I’d hate for someone to take him seriously and try following his advice to build there own fence!

watching you correct Jeff has taught me quite a lot.
Glad I can help, thanks for watching!
Joe, you keep forgetting that Jeff's motto is "Good enough" 🤣🤣
😂😂😂 fair enough!
I know this is an old video, but did you notice that the corner post had shrunk about 2 feet at the end of your video?

Bylaw in our area can't have a center support on a fence , only top and bottom , so kids can't climb it

Good luck getting below the frost point this far north of you can find a long enough auger you will be pulling out glacial boulders or worse.

Darn....I thought he would show how he cut the posts. His favorite saw is a "hack" saw as it describes him perfectly.

I don't know about the post holes, but I can say with a high degree of confidence that Jeff isn't very deep.
😂 💯
My favourite is you dont have to dig your holes in a straight line, just dig your holes then put the posts wherever the holes are.
Sometimes it seems like he’s doing silly stuff on purpose!
If that soil is clay you'd have no problem getting those post in 4 feet.
I’ve come to the conclusion that this dude in the blue is just trolling everyone, he has to be. HalfassDIYvision
