What we are seeing is a much needed correction - for the past few years 2nd hand prices have been unrealistically high, it is good that things are levelling out at last!
The value falling of vans could show there is a wider economic issue
Yeah, it was christmas, nobody was buying for much.
Every tradesman I know is booked solid…the people that use vans are fuelling the economy
They're not fueling it but they are an indicator of a solid economy!
We’re in a recession, a lot of people in these comments don’t seem the brightest
could be that modern vans are so easy to break into
Hi all happy New Year, sorry for the delay in getting content out over the last week, as I was away over Xmas. Anyhow I am now back and been filming lots of content for you, lets kick it off with a auction video where we take a look at the price of Vans. 👍👍👍👍
easy: economy outlook must be stalling therefore no investment into used vans for the own business or the private owners that push the purchase decision way back.
Same here in germany which means high volatile prices from week to week and month to month since lets say before the summer holiday which was June.
Since june the whole car market has turned upside down which means used car prices stalling the only difference that only a few have just some losses, but in general just what you can expect from a recession.
Wheeler dealer Mike Brewer told how he and his wife lost everyhting back in his dealer hay days about 1991 / 1992 when europe fell into a pretty deep recession and depression after the cold war was over. He described it in a 2 hour interview on another car channel and also why Ed had left even though no one wants to believe that. Really great interview and when he told about the era how he was falling into the car dealer business and broke at 27 it reminded me how terrible the situation back then had been over night with exploding interest rates that brought the solicitor (however it is spelled) into the game cause the mortgage for their house had been exploded from 1500 GBP to a few thousand GBP more in a moment, when his wife was ill in the hospital and the car market had stalled fully.
Listen to it and you will learn about his sales skills when the story is about a rather big old chandelier and how he became what he is now known for.
Really great interview on a rather small channel with 27000 subs or so and I guess Ben was the host. Long but really worthwhile to listen regardless if you are in the car or tv business. I have enjoyed it yesterday evening but I guess that it was a few days older.
checked it: it is 4 days old and called Mike Brewer Reveals the REAL Reason Why Edd China Left Wheeler Dealers & His Story Of TV Success
Host is Ben Fowler and they both had a great time so the time will run without being aware of it once you are in the story from the early childhood days on.
I had been working for Daimler for 2 decades when we the SPRINTER was born as the first baby of the newly built VAN division where the VITO and VARIO were following, which was quite a ride in that particular era in 1995 cause the division started with highest losses and turned into big profits within 2 following years and became the world market leader back then. Big times, big profits and big bonusses, but those years before which Mike was talking about were horrible for the company from 1991 or 1992 on cause the big boom in germany cause by the reunification and high demand from the east had only delayed the arrival of the recession, therefore the recession arrived later but hit us also a lot more than everyone had thought. For the first time since the War new engineers from the university were in mass unable to find a job for about 2 to 3 years at least. Therefore if the UK and US and EU central banks will not lower the interest rate soon the inflation will be gone but the industry will struggle with low demand and recession.
All the best for you and the channeln in 2024 !
Happy New Year Lee, apology not necessary, we were mostly on holiday over Xmas so why shouldn't you too. The "catching a falling knife" phrase is such an apt one at the moment, no one wants to catch that blade. You should try (probably already have) tell your Mrs that a Disco is better than a Sport 😁
Great video Lee I was waiting on this video ever since you mentioned it couple weeks ago,,
That black fiat vivaro style van was a very very cheap van especially with
no - v ,a ,t on it,, cheapest van in the auction that night mate god bless and stay busy,,
Happy new year by the way,,
Would be very interested to see you cover EVs auction prices this month and next.
Tools being stolen from vans is the problem. I know lots of tradesmen now refuse to have vans. They prefer to use estate cars etc. Much less chance of tools being stolen off back seat if windows are tinted and tools covered with a black towel.
UK economy is collapsing - Friday night and the high street here in Surrey is full of empty restaurants - it’s the mortgages which have cleaned people out of any spending money
Good. About time there was a reckoning.
1st weekend after new year,
I live in Plymouth, the centre is absolutely destitute, the same for nearby Torbay...the far south west is more advanced in the social and economic decline, but I think it is beginning to make itself felt in more affluent areas like Surrey....I've got a bad feeling the rot is so entrenched, it may be irreversible
@@tomwilliams7391still be rammed all summer Easter and when kids go back to school
People get their pay on different dates due to Christmas and some get two months in advance. By this time they’ve spent up and are broke. It’s an annual phenomenon.
Not falling, going back to normal as greedy dealers can't get inflated prices anymore, about time.
@@Antonio-gq6fx BCA are never letting the public back in
About time vans started to come down ! Been crazy for far too long . Excellent video as always Lee 👍
Thanks 👍 have a great 24 ian
price of scrap cars and vans dont help .. we could get an old banger with tax and mot under £300 now your looking at £2000 plus for junk that better of crushebd.. time prices fall there way over priced for rubbish..
I'm a gas engineer in central London, I've come out of a van into a car.
I probably need a van twice a month which I now hire for the day.
Driving a van at 20mph and parking is freakin hard unless it's auto and a van is a target for tool theft.
Yeah the insurance on vans up my way is ridiculous now
Just bought a Ford connect today - 11071 miles on a 21 plate- mint condition but still over 22k - never using a car buying site or main dealers again
Biggest indicator of price fall is that vans are being auctioned off again.
Biggest indicator the economy is going down the pan!
Great video Lee - how things have changed with van prices since Covid !!
Nice to see a video on the vans mate 👍🏼
Van prices I find are ridiculous at the moment I am surprised to see them going through so cheap at auction 😱😱. Goes to show how much profit some dealers are making..
Dealers don't pay VAT on their purchases, if we bid at these auctions, they add the VAT on top.
@@bluenose7984 Dealers do pay Vat

Fiat Tarento was a steal. Thanks for this one, makes a change from the cars.
Yes, I have noticed that the van prices are falling after years of steady climb. There seems to be more nearly new vans coming on the market. Thanks for making the video. 👍👍
covid made all vehicles harder o buy new ,so 2nd hand market boosted ,its coming back now as ne cars and vans are accessible for companies etc.
Not just dealers , but public also cautious at present.. great vid dude xx
This man is brillant wish here in Ireland prices would fall prices here are crazy top class video
They are ridiculously high prices now. I've just had to shell out £750 on a slightly battered petrol Berlingo. Not because I really wanted it, but to satisfy Khant. Always had Transits, but decent ULEZ compatible diesel ones start at 10k now, probably closer to 15-20k for a stupid van that's so 'clever' that no one but the dealers computers can repair/adjust.
Be a man and don’t pay the fine
I can't see it lasting the emissions zone
Indeed, “SMART” means that you can’t do anything about it if it doesn’t work as it should, and that a remote 3rd party is almost certainly surveilling you.
Berlingo are a nice van. I think the Transit is overrated. Merc Vito also a great option.
Hi lee, gotta say van prices where i am are definitely not falling i wish they were as im aftef a decent one at a fair price but lets see what happens 🙂
It's another great video. I am looking at a van just so I can get an advert in it parked up in places or driving round my catchment areas. Sounds like Jan / Feb might be a guide time to go pick one up at auction.
That guy with the DKNY coat and red kicks needs to get a few more jackets and beaters, its the only one's we ever see him in.🤣
Haha yeah noticed that
Happy New year to you and the gang Lee. All the best for the new year..👍
A lot of people bought vans during you know what as they needed to find an income and the increase in household deliveries. A quick search showed e-commerce increased by almost 80%. If they were 3 year PCP or HP deals then there must be lots of them on the market.
More like a lot of people bought new vans in that time from claiming all the 'free furlough payments' that they were 'entitled to', when work picked back up the amount of trades with new vans was off the chart but they didn't have any work for the previous 3 months 🤔🤔
I've seen a few transits going for reasonable money. But I wouldn't know which has the dreaded wet belt engine and which one didn't. So I've avoided all of them just in case.
Hi thanks for this video very informative I was planning buying a van but now after watching your video I'll hold of to see if I can get a better price cheers lee
Vat on old vans , government making a fortune 😮. Cracking video 📹 👌.
yeah fcuck vans ,but cars would work
Cracking start to the new year from CarUK. Wouldn’t have thought a van auction video would be interesting and that is possibly all down to our host, Lee. Prices might just be down to seasonal slowdown. I thought the auctioneer made a mistake on that transit which had no bids as he started the auction at £7k, that’s above bottom book as shown at £6750. The trend throughout was vans struggled to make bottom book.
Always like these videos. I’ve not directly bought from an auction but have attended some many years ago. I think the prices of second hand vehicles is still bizarrely high.
Hi Lee. Happy New Year to you and the Family. Back to the Grind again. But it will be a Great year for you and the Garage. God the prices for Vans is down, That last Grey Transit was lovely with no bids lol, and nice Mini. Chat soon buddy. 😅 🇨🇮
Thanks 👍
Loving the van footage
I still don't think anything will start To change until the Christmas credit card's are paid up
From Christmas. End of February is my bet, let's see ,great vid as always, Bill.
13% APR for a PCP? Public are not having it
I was looking at small vans on copart hoping i could get a bargain but they still seem to be going for crazy money.
Another Interesting video Thankyou Lee 💪
Happy new year great video
New vans are so underpowered to meet omission levels, most of them are knackered with 100k on them
Nonsense
Superb channel Lee, very informative.
Brilliant watch mate 👍
great vid lee
Top vid again, Lee...thanks.
Give it another 6-9 months and we might be back at pre covid van prices , there’s a lot of over inflated van prices still doing the rounds... 👍
I can't believe that last transit (with the replacement engine) went unsold. I was in the market for a 2nd hand combi van (space-traveller type) but with prices circa 18k upwards I got my 2008 plate expert tepee repaired at a cost of £2k, pricey, but I know the vehicle and love the versatility; seats come out loads of stuff goes in, when I've finished moving stuff, seats back in.
I'm looking to buy atm. Van prices are ridiculous compared to pre covid but so is everything else. The world economy is ever-changing but one things for sure if wages don't increase how is it sustainable.
Greed in the main issue.
Happy New Year good to see you back
Thanks Dave
2018 to 2020 transit prices have dropped by a lot on the trade sites this week I saw a 2020 transit 350 (biggest transit) trend 80,000 miles £14k no vat and seen quite a few 2018 for £10k with 90.000
My work mate has the first new transit in the south west. Bought it 4 weeks ago... 13 people wanting it. Best part of £50k. The new model makes the previous look dated. It looks lovely but needs bigger wheels. The salesman said Ford are making this model with bigger arches to accommodate bigger wheels.
Brilliant video 👍👍👍
I think the 1.6 diesel on ford is euro 5 and the 1.5 euro 6 so that black van would be euro 5sounds like injector seals which are common on that engine.
Excellent vid Lee.
My connect done 330k before i traded it in . Solid as a rock still
I recently bought a 65 plate with 152k & was concerned about mileage but you have restored my faith
Happy New Year to you Lee….. have they got any Vauxhall Movano’s
about time prices started to drop ,sheds was getting top money
Very likely Lee, some of these vans may have done a lot of very heavy carrying though.
When they adjust the Cap values will that help... They are off by 25% .
Traders may stop tormenting themselves about bargains when they merely Re-align to economic backdrop .
Have a look at Usa markets and you will get an idea of where this is all going.
What’s happening in the US?
@@giff1669 Most of the lots are full of nearly new vehicles….
Like it, intelligent comment 🤔
Well said that man
75bhp must be fun
And that comes from a 100bhp 2019 berlingo van driver😢
Don't know about vans as much, but the falling prices didn't last long, January madness has definitely started on the car side at BCA
It was because to COVID Everyone wanted a van to turn into a day van or campervan
The all important thing for me would be the state of the payload bay. Most of these van's look pretty clean yet inside the back could be a real mess. I would have to look inside the rear before bidding.
i was thinking the same, i always like looking in the back
Yeah, most of them have had a right hammering, and aren't sold until they're completely fucked.
Defo, smashed like ringos drum dont appeal to me
I’ve bucked that trend, my caddy is fucked inside and out 👌🏻
Is it a big deal though?? Working vehicle you expect it to be pretty rough especially in the cargo area
Good to hear.
My current van is 20 years old and has done 474,000 miles.
Nothing wrong with it, otrher than 20 years of use.
I think its about time I bought a new van.
I really bawk at spending more than £2000 on a vehicle.
Run till the old van dont run anymore . Your van is reliable unlike the newer models today
What van have you got?
@@paulk1322 vauxhall combo 1.7 diesel.

The 106 looked good value
Transit custom terrible hard suspension gives you a bad neck. Had one for 6 year pleased to get proper bigger transit to replace it much nicer to drive softer suspension and electric steering 130 bhp can stand up in back so no more bad back!
Big tam is a car and van dealer during covid and beyond Big tam like yourself made a killing but no he's struggling to get rid of his stock poor tam happy new year 🎉.
I am not like big tam I can sell my stock 😂 happy new year bud 👍
I’m assuming the finance payments have went up with interest rate rises so I’m guessing that has fucked things up especially the heavy stuff.
Dude love ya vids ❤
Appreciate it!
Im looking for a van atm, still quite expensive on autotrader etc
Happy New Year Lee, yet another great video, what small van would you recommend for someone on a small budget??
Under 3k for example, if its a very small van, ~Fiesta 1.4 Diesel, Nissan NV200, Partner / berlingo not bad but make sure the engine is well looked after. Transit connect I would keep away from under 3k they are very troublesome for Mot testing
@carukchannel interesting you say that Lee..anything in particular fr MOT? I've just bought an 07 (private sale) with 187k with a v long mot and it seems a good un tbf.
New shape ford vans have a problimatic history
46% increase in companies going bust in a recent report. No need to replace or buy a van for start up if the economy is tanking. Agree the drops are still to come before flatlining then it will pick up again but much more slowly .
3:23 in.
May I ask whats the concern over having a 6th gear in a van please?
That Berlingo could be converted into a microcamper with just the one seat in
Merc Citan is the same - most vans are the same bar different badging these days - ie that Talento is just a Renault Traffic in a new frock
As is the Merc. 😉
i think they need to invest in a better clearer sound system
Hmm but you must remember the auction commission pushes up the price, you don't seem to mention
They are not falling in Australia, vans are WAY more expensive than they were a few years ago. I just got a Merc Vito 2019 for 34k AUD with 60,000km on the clock which is not too bad. For a Ford Transit Custom you would be paying 40k+ with much more KM.
Great video mate, I'm just not into vans tho, I've had a few but prefer cars, don't know why.
I quite like the new Ferrari van.
Same, Although I have just taken in a old 56 combo in chop in green, ex garden van and very clean. needs a buff up and master cylinder so far.
@@carukchannel I gave a grand for a 200k combo last year bud, opened the bonnet and all the top inner wing had gone, after welding and other jobs I was rewarded with 20 net profit.

The market for combustion engine vehicles is about to end ..if what is happening in America is anything to go by.
The new emissions tests has made it impossible for these vehicles to pass. In the U S A.
Unfortunately this will happen in the UK .
This is the only way to force people to buy a electric vehicle. If I were in the car trade I would keep an eye on the way emissions tests are going.
As this is going to be the straw that broke the camals back. As far as the second hand car sales is concerned ..
Personally I don't think this is fair ..as people have not got the money for a electric vehicle... unless they remortgage their homes. ???
Anyway fella I really enjoy your blogs . and I am looking forward to the next video of yours .as they show just how much traders have to pay for vehicles at action ..at the moment..
Keep safe and well mate . and I hope you have a prosperous new year.

I match jobs with skilled workers. Many have gone to other European countries for the money (the ones with EU passports) and many older British tradesmen have just stopped working and changed to employed positions or just plain quit. I have lost 40 to 50 tradesmen in the last 6 months.
They are no longer cheap. I’m trying to buy one and the dealers are asking way too high a price!!
