    Let’s explore the incentives behind some of those reasons.

    Free Huey has and always will be the most stressful series to edit because of how much stuff I need to check before finalising anything. The design process deffo doesn’t help in that regard either.
    Regardless, it’s a special series that means a lot to me, and it’s nice to see it grow and impact people in some small way.

    With the rest of the world ahead of me, I wonder if there’s an ethical way for me to keep doing this. To talk like this but exist in such a space. I’m not so sure myself that I even have an answer to that question. So, I guess I’ll just keep living to find out.

    The main problem I have with the whole "just work harder lmao" mentality is that, don't you think if it was that easy, the problem would have been solved already? The people in my neighborhood work hard as fuck but they can't get ahead because of several factors beyond their control. But nah, we're just gonna ignore that.

      Few, if any, of the people who use that line do so because they believe it's really that easy. They almost universally do it just to both shut you up and put the onus on you to prove you work hard enough, which, of course, you can't. Even if you somehow managed to, they'd just move the goalposts and claim you don't have enough jobs or are spending frivolously, or any number of excuses, and you can't prove you don't do any of those things sufficiently. In the end, though, it doesn't matter. They're not trying to win you over and convince you that you really just aren't working hard enough, but rather to convince other people that you aren't, so they can get more people against the notion that there's anything wrong with the system.

To me it’s always been like the person getting to the door of Opportunity before you do, closing it behind them, ordering people to brick up side door behind them, them making a window next to said door, sticking their head out, and while you did everything you needed to do to get to said door but can’t open it and this jack-hole sticks their head out the window and goes, “Why don’t ya pull yourself up by your own bootstraps?! I live in the Caribbean, the Bahamas to be specific. To quell the uprising and class consciousness of the masses they gave us a piece of the pie. Black businessmen, black lawyers, black middle class. But the whites retained most of the economic power over the country. Today the Bahamas is a neocolonial neoliberal playground for wealthy white investors and the issues of poverty that was around since the 1960s still remain. This is because we attempted to fight capitalism with black capitalism. That's a game that whites will always outsource us in. They know this. This is why they suggest this method.

    All the issues that are involved with capitalism in itself can be said for black capital. Economincally investing yourself in this system is exactly one of the reasons why we as a people can't thrive. The problem with this concept is that people don't realize that it's only going to result in more classism, an even more uneven distribution of wealth, and a higher risk of exploitation. The correlation between money and power is all just to establish false sense of superiority and success when in reality you're just a pawn being used in a game of monopoly.

    • @BrendanPace
      @BrendanPace 3 роки тому +23

      The big issue of black capitalism is it has no inherent safeguards against another Tulsa massacre. White supremacy is core to capitalism. If you can divide the working class along racial lines you'll inevitably prevent meaningful change because the working class will either be torn down by itself or will jealousy guard the scraps you gave one half because you said the other half if the enemy.

      Why's the World Wyrd?
      We live in a world that focuses heavily on the obfuscation of the very nature of what makes us human, while simulation asserting that said obfuscation gives us the wyrd ability to decide our fates. Back when I was a freshman in high school I wrote about the Black Panthers for English class. When I was reading about them I read about something from Bobby Seale about how they chose the slogan "Power to the People" for the Black Panthers to communicate their socialist ideology. While their organization was focused on Black communities, they wanted to make it clear that they stood with all oppressed peoples because Socialist revolution is about solidarity. All oppressed peoples need to rise up together rather than focus on themselves because you otherwise don't have a revolution. Just a changing of the guard. It's strange to see my own Latin peoples champion the same capitalist movements that have robbed them of agency over their own fates for the last 500 years. But then I also get hope from the Zapatistas and what the people of Cheran, Michocan have accomplished. Real revolution is possible.

    Here is where I take issue. A lot of folks talk about uneven distribution of wealth. But what does even distribution of wealth look like? For example, is it inequality at work when Jewish people and Indian people have greater household incomes than white Americans?
    Do people realize that since the very dawn of civilization there has been unequal distribution of wealth? Basically if you want a society that is egalitarian, you have to go back to the days of hunting and gathering. Basically as soon as we settled down and started farming, society started to become unequal because somebody could always accumulate more food and resources and become the big guy in the village.
    Hunter gatherers have to maintain equality because if the food and resources are not equally distributed, the community loses cohesion. Survival in hunter gatherer societies depends on basic equality. But this necessity more or less disappears as soon as you have a settled society where people can accumulate things in larger numbers because you’re not limited to what you can carry on your back.
    Even looking at Black history this is the case. There is no African kingdom I am aware of starting from Egypt and going all the way to the forests of what is today Nigeria that has had equality. Probably the closest settled African culture were the various Igbo City states during the middle ages.

    He would see faces in movies, on T.V., in magazines, and in books....
    He thought that some of these faces might be right for him....And
    through the years, by seeing an ideal facial structure fixed in his
    mind....Or somewhere in the back of his mind....That he might, by
    force of will, cause his face to approach those of his ideal....The
    change would be very subtle....It might take ten years or so....
    Gradually his face would change its' shape....A more hooked nose...
    Wider, thinner lips....Beady eyes....A larger forehead.
    He imagined that this was an ability he shared with most other
    people....They had also molded their faced according to some
    ideal....Maybe they imagined that their new face would better
    suit their personality....Or maybe they imagined that their
    personality would be forced to change to fit the new appear-
    ance....This is why first impressions are often correct...
    Although some people might have made mistakes....They may have
    arrived at an appearance that bears no relationship to them....
    They may have picked an ideal appearance based on some childish
    whim, or momentary impulse....Some may have gotten half-way
    there, and then changed their minds.

    Thinking about Black Capitalism it would be a mistake to assume that there's no merit in making a business that provides for yourself and others on a basic level. The questions you need to ask yourself is how you would do things different. If you own a record label will you run it like a standard label and screw over kids in there 20s and be a vampire or will you give them a better deal and raise their business acumen to thrive in the industry. Capitalism does operate from scarcity mindset so build you space and businesses on a different mindset.

The owner would also be more likely lose his employees to the free market by increasing their value. He will also struggle to compete with reduced profits. Good employee relations goes a long way in terms of respect but capitalism questions whether respect is a sustainable business in the long run.

Activism and spreading awareness is something I'm interested in, but the mental strain of doing stuff like this too consistently really takes its toll on me.
      It'd be nice to have more creative means in which to discuss these sorts of things w/o feeling like a mindless machine. The UA-cam landscape incentivises you to commercialise everything for profit, and I don't really want to do that.

      This is a country and violent economic totality where the moment you aquire any social influence, it automatically becomes reduced to social capital, the individual a commodity to exploit, to discriminate, to target hate at, to align hate against everything you believe as if its a brand. Vast curation of media and propaganda by industries of dehumanization are in place to dismiss and villify the Other in the eyes of the state apparatus. What is one to even do, when we cannot breath here, how can we escape when the colonizer has its fingers in everything, from what words language or culture enters media, to the very way we discuss ourselves. At times it seems impossible to escape the vampire castle, and we know it feeds on the world, upon "the global south" with inescapable violence, what are we to do, but burn the castle down.

      Activism, particularly black activism, is another way in which radicalism is neutralised and whitewashed into doing a handful of state approved 'praxis'. As long as any movement is stuck in the nonsense of activism it will go absolutely nowhere, especially if it becomes personality activism. I mean have you not watched Boondocks? Did you seriously miss the character of Rollo Goodlove and the entire critique of activism?

While we can’t rich ourselves out of the system we can at least spread the money amongst each other as best we can while we try to dismantle the systems we all know exist that’s it. I honestly don’t even necessarily disagree with the video I just think it’s naive to believe that white supremacy is such an easy fix that we just fix it when truthfully we can’t. We have to live in it AND fix it. So why not MAKE LIFE EASIER WHERE YOU CAN FOR YOUR PEOPLE. The people are my main concern. The black people in my life, the every day black person. So dismantling the system can be on the list but I’m definitely going to help more black people obtain comfortability while we all HAVE to live in this world anyway

Also actual power on on a global scale and a willingness to embrace black people gloabally, allow them to imigrate easily, especially if fleeing persecution and the ability to put real pressure on nations that mistreat the diaspora, rather it be their immediate diaspora or the black diaspora in general.

    Just started watching. The fact you started the clips of with a Killer Mike clip taken out of context (and then continued to take him out of context throughout the rest of the video), and didn't mention Malcolm X yet used Nixon of all people to conflate Black self-dependence with the 'Black victimhood' narrative shows a complete misunderstanding of the conversation on a fundamental level, if not a deliberate ploy through which you wanted to attack capitalism by making it seem 'anti-Black'.
    I'm going to watch the video again before I comment again. But I also wanted to say congrats on graduating. And thank you for the shout out for the patreon support/you're welcome. Killer Mike makes his point clear in almost all of his interviews and talks. He cares about black people, but primarily the building of black wealth, business & banks. He quite explicitly has called himself a "compassionate capitalist" and strives to create a stronger black middle class. There's nothing to take out of context. He says it in almost all of his interviews.

    • @Yawdan
      @Yawdan 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheStorytellerAJ yet you've done it again there fam... One thing Killer Mike *has not* done is ever call Black people 'victims', and though he does indeed call himself a "compassionate capitalist", he doesn't advocate Black economics to get himself and his friends wealthy, and to get Black people to buy from white people, but so that others can't use Black people's financial dependence on them to manipulate or control Black people. Fairly different. It's partially why Malcolm X, who was indeed anti-capitalism to an extent, was also an avid advocate of African Americans/Black people owning their own schools, jobs, lands and even nation (which has some saying he supported Black people using capitalism to a degree to help ourselves)- it's not that he saw Black people as victims, is that he saw Caucasians as the devil 😂
      Killer Mike even said he supported Bernie Sanders- a social democrat- as Sanders policy was closest to Martin Luther King Jr's- who we know to be an anti-capitalist Marxist- philosophy ; and Killer Mike has advocated for forms of socialism in America. He also says "K!LL Your M@sters" as he doesn't believe people should be beholden to one political system or political party; and has said that if we aren't in a position to start a new system, the next best thing would be to try and make the current system work best for you (can see this in his VladTV interview, particularly the clip titled "Killer Mike on Russel Simmons' 'Bernie Insensitive To Plight Of Black People').

    • @TheStorytellerAJ
      @TheStorytellerAJ  3 роки тому +9

      I'm not interested in the concerns of a self appointed 'black leader' who champions the likes of Jay Z and T.I, calling themselves a "compassionate capitalist" while looking down on those who criticise the intentions of a growing black middle class. Killer Mike doesn't call black people victims, but he's the perfect example of what the likes of Fred Hampton, Franklin Fraizer & many black leaders which we claim to admire warned against. At best, he's a misguided pawn. At worst, he's exploiting us and he knows it given what he claims to have read.
