Thank you for this video. Personally I am looking forward to all of these changes coming in 3.23, but I still think the holy grail of server meshing is the final major tech part that is needed to solidify this game into something truly exceptional.
i find it funny when people call it a scam. I understand they are frustrated, however development of a game from the ground up isn't easy especially after the game had to switch engines twice. @@SpaceTomato I'm hopeful that the big reveal at CitCon will be 4.0 patch at the end of the year, it all depends on what they can do with server meshing in the next 6 months and what other big features will be ready by then. Static SM would be very welcomed with the pre IAE patch, although this iteration would probably not be able to handle 500+ players spawn on the same planet.
I assume feature is like a functional mechanic. So if cutting had some debug function that represented cutting that good technically be considered a feature
Bro just take a look at the new freight update. Nothing has really worked with the freight update for the vast majority of people with freight elevators being constantly bugged the truth. This game is an unplayable state and anybody that creates content around this game for the most part are just gonna make stuff up for Clickbait titles.
The sandworm gameplay demo at Citcon featured cockpit views with clearly indicated "SCM guns" Master Modes. The weather demo featured a Zeus flying through a thunderstorm with no such indicator in the cockpit and a suggested topspeed of 525m/s. I'm unsure what to make of this but I have a gut feeling that we haven't seen everything that Yogi has in store for the flight model yet.
If you're an OG backer, you almost guaranteed have it for free. If you log in to the site and find your OG backers package in your hangar, it should have "Squadron 42 Digital Download" as an item in it. That's your free access to SQ42. If you melted the package to get something else, it may not be there. If that's the case, might be worth seeing how much it would be to melt that and buyback the original backer package from the buyback section then get whatever other thing you have as an upgrade instead.
Do I still think this game, or games is/are impossible: Yes Do I enjoy watching Citizencon, despite believing it’s impossible, and knowing I’d never have the hardware to play it: YES
I agree that it would be ideal for Star Citizen to be ready when Squadron 42 ships. However, *if* Squadron 42 is ready more than 6 months before Star Citizen is, I think it would be a mistake to hold off releasing it. At some point the public perception of a "never going to be finished game" (like Duke Nukem Forever) will become too ingrained into public perception to be fully overcome by marketing and/or good reviews. In fact, if only first few chapters of SQ42 are fully polished, I would advocate shipping those, then ship the follow-on chapters as they become polished.
I kinda want us all to tune into Citizen Con just for them to tell us they are working on a plan for the next year and will tell us when it's ready, then just never tell us 😂
Yo Tomato, would be really nice with a 20 minute long "overview" commented video that goes through the best bits of CitizenCon. The problem is that there are so many and long videos that sharing with friends who are not that into SC isn't really a thing because it requires to much investment for them, so a video that highlights the best bits with some good comentary would be amazing.
For the most part, I do ignore the people who yell scam. You have your entrance fee of $40, and that's all you have to spend on the game. I spent more (daddy wants his virtual gunship) but I also view it like purchasing in any game, I ain't gonna see that money again. But, the fairest representation of "is it worth the cost" is a system that I think a lot of people devised, dollars spent vs hours enjoyed (as in ACTUALLY enjoyed, not spent doing boring stuff). For me, per dollar spent, I have to get 1 hour of enjoyment/fun from the game. For $40, I got far more than 40 hours of enjoyment from Star Citizen. Now, my criteria is probably different from others, but you can't deny that the system I use to determine if the game is worth it isn't unfair. As for "you may not even be able to play the game in 5-10 years!" Yeah, but the same can be said for a lot of games, it's rare for a game to be able to keep going after a decade or 2, and we really only remember the truely outstanding ones, like CSGO, TF2, LOL, ect.
I just tried to play again. The PU is in a worse state than it ever was. The amount of work CIG have ahead of them only to make that work which is already there suggests that SC has still a long way to go before we can actually call it a game. And no hype will change that. It never did.
I'm a little worried about the financial viability of SC and whether they'll have enough money to actually finish the game. I just read the Inside Gaming article and it has me a little nervous and a tad bit angry about some of the wasted time. Could we have had a good game by now without all the iterations and constant changes? I dunno.
The importance of having servers/shards with larger player counts will mean the difference between an MMO and just multiplayer. Fleet battles, orgs, and interaction in the verse was a vision from the beginning. Players that bought javs, corvettes, large ships, saw the bengal and vanduul kingships, and associated interactive gameloops need crews. Without larger player counts and servers that actually work well, I think the PU will fail and become irrelevant. 4.0 is an inflection point. Another decade of development will be ridiculous.
It finally... FINALLY, feels like CIG has reached a professional level. They have actually made 4 games by now. Star Citizen, then Star Citizen rework - and SQ42 and SQ42 rework... They never released, but it feels like they have learned from their mistakes. What they are doing now, actually makes sense... Having only 5 systems, makes perfect sense... But backers like me, that come from 2012 have also grew up and understand what the _numbers mean_ and, yeah, SQ42 2026 makes sense, I honestly didn't need CIG to tell me that - I knew it already, and quite frankly - it won't hit on 2026, probably around 2027. And 1.0 won't hit until 2030. I'm sorry guys and girls, but this is the truth. You don't want to hear it, that's fine, but its the truth. What you saw in this years citizen con - plus server meshing, AI, animal life and bringing all things to golden standard, and no major bugs - will take up to 2030. AT LEAST! So where does that leave us? I don't know... But its the 1st time in our lives that we actually get to have an ACTUAL scope for the game that is realistic. Obviously NOBODY should give CIG any more money... They are reaching 1 billion - that's about enough. Keep your wallets closed, play other games, and one day we might get 1.0. :)
Server Meshing "Working" is a a bit crazy. Because it didn't have NPC, didn't have the same inventory system, didn't have missions and multi people never successfully had good working sessions above 425/4 (around 125 max per server) and those werent very functional either. This project has been doomed for the same reason since the kickstarter, there isnt enough bandwidth to sync all these items, even with their version of server meshing. TECH DEMO.
Just my opinion but tactically speaking, I hope for their sake I do hope CIG release Squadron 42 within the next three years as I believe doing so will ease the concerns naysayers have and give the backers something to chew on (the proverbial lamb bone tossed to appease feral wolves). I'm sure it will be a true masterpiece once its done, the demo gave me old school Halo 2 and 3 vibes (though obviously much prettier).
Came to this video after not being able to play all weekend (30k and stuck in habs). Star Citzen is in worse shape today than when I last played a year ago smh
Also, what happened to pledged item recovery being discussed at CitizenCon back in June? CIG need their feet held to the fire for this!! No mention of this three days ago nor any mention of NPC crews. Some of ya'll let CIG off the hook far to easily.
I think at the moment, the recent updates and the ongoing stance of CIG vs. their community wont help the game at all, in the earlier updates we had hope when a patch came out broken or buggy, but i think most of us are way past that point. The Ignorance of CIG regarding the feedback on Master Modes which most of the old timers just hate and cant get around with the lowered skill requirement for space combat is a bit step into the wrong direction. The Recent Bugged Patches and the state in which they were released, dont help either, the ongoing waste of precious and limited ressources into stuff that comes out broken and/or is openly rejected or just hated by the community are just a few of the many things why people who once had hope for the project are just hating it by now. I've started with Kickstarter and i'm just done with everything they throw at us, the lies, the deceptions, the empty speeches, the broken patches and with the backlog they keep building while adding more and more to the plate everytime they lie again and again. At this point i just hope Sqadron 42 will fail and everything will be over soon.
Mastermodes makes me never want to play the game again. that and the flight hud changes, and the sniper glint, and the hash marks when you hit/down/kill someone, and...
I get peoples hype for this after citizen con. But the fact that they’re talking about a 1.0 release. It’s not really around the corner it’s another few years off. They can’t even release the system yet and it’s been 12 years. I think people need to keep the expectations in check because this whole event was a marketing ploy to get people hyped again. For all we know all this stuff is gonna be in the game but when is the real question? What’s the point of all this stuff is going to be another 10 years away?
Everytime I try to have a discussion or state criticism about the game people just start getting personal and start insulting me. Its COMPLETELY logical to say CIG is CASHGRABBING with star citizen, a statement from Tom Henderson (One of the most trusted gaming insider) made a statement and proved EVERYTHING I said correct. Or at least its very likely, CIG is running out of money for star citizen, at least the funded money. Missmanagement has led to alot of confusion inside the company, at the beginning of 2024 100-150 Staff were fired and the list goes on. Idk how blind or ADDICTED you have to be to be fine with just getting new ships in a completely unfinished and broken game, how is it not possible as player to say OKAY FOR FCKING 3 MONTHS NO MORE NEW SHIPS JUST FULL ON FOCUS ON DEVELOPEMENT. If youre not able to play the game for 3 months without having a new ship released bro you should seek serious help, youre addicted and youre the reason why CIG was able to basically just sell ships in a universe simulator which is completely broken. Its completely logical that if a company sees "OH WE CAN JUST SELL SHIPS IT SEEMS THATS ALL OUT PLAYERS WANT" then theyre gonna do that and dont give as much of a fck about the issues of the game. Yes you ship buying addicts are the ones funding the game but at the same time you WERE the reason why the game is still in alpha after 12 years of developement. AND AGAIN CIG RELEASES CARGO HANGARS, A NEW ANTICIPATED FEATURE, THEN CARGO HANGARS BROKE ON ALMOST ALL SHARDS ON ALL SERVERS AND THEY DIDNT EVEN CARE TO FIX IT FOR OVER 30 DAYS!!! A NEW FEATURE!!! That alone tells you the company does not give a sht anymore + CIG has registered a project for a NEW MMO (not Star Citizen) which leads ME to believe theyre gonna drop SC after 4.0 and Squadron 42 release and move onto the new project!
Dude, you hit the nail on the head. These dudes and Contant creators are seriously brainwashed by this game. I’ve been playing since 2019 often on and I really have got to appoint where I’m just kind of over it which is most of everyone that played this game wherethese people keep going to and cons and they revolve their whole life around is just mind blowing
Players have given hundreds of millions of dollars to CIG and they continue with delays, degraded server performance, pie in the sky its only 2 years away promises, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseam. CIG loves to show off their sizzle reels every CitCon then half that stuff is never seen again. Complaining won't do much as CIG does whatever the hell they want. What I'd like to see is a class action lawsuit. CIG and CRobert's finances need to to be investigated. Players are upset and emotional because they've held up their end of the bargain by buying ships and funding this game. In return CRoberts and CIG offer nothing but delays, SQ42 is always 2 years away and 50% of the time the PU is hot garbage. Same o' bunkers, virtually the same old missions. FIrst it was Road to Pyro for 4 years now its Beyond Pyro, rolleyes. Yea sure the swamps and jungles looked amazing. Rain and lightening was stunning but anyone who has been around a few years knows better than to hold their breath waiting for that to appear in the PU. Giving players the ability to build ships from scratch smells like desperation. It used to be 100 systems now 1.0 will only include 5. Also, why is CIG constantly tooting their horn about their game dev tools and how fast they can make planets and assets. Yet the pace at which assets and planets appear in game moves at a glacial pace. CRoberts and CIG knew years ago Pyro needed server meshing and its just now in the early phases of being ready. So why the hell were they promoting Pyro for several years ? That is the B.S. that players are tired of. Lies! Deception! Everyday more lies. Sure I'll put the controller down and relax, in return give me a refund!!!!
"Why I Think Discussion Around Star Citizen Feels Different Now" Cause atm Nothing works in game, and its expected to be a shitshow for the forseable future.
I was always expecting to at least see combat be somewhat realistic, but it seems like they are going the "pound the health bar till they blow up" route. Which is about as arcade as you get. Also don't see how nerfing space combat to the speed of late Korean war jets is a good move. These things should be moving mach 30 easy. Combat in space shouldn't look like a match of rock'em sock'em robots that can move around a bit.
Are you forgetting that human beings are squishy and can't sustain changes in pitch and yaw at mach 30 without liquefying; much less getting there at a reasonable pace?
@@frostmain9015 sorry your concept of space combat is ww2 in space. Actual space combat would take minutes of carefully crafted manuvers to get a split second shot window. Did YOU forget theres no gravity in space and kinetic weapons like a chaingun would spin the craft faster than a top?
@@cheesesniper473 did you forget that there are ways to counteract rotational force and that we are physiologically limited from ridiculous speeds and changes at those speeds? Yes, longer distances are great but can make for combat that isn’t compelling. You also discount the possibility of running into contact organically that is employing cloaking or running with power below the threshold of your sensors.
@@frostmain9015 well im going by the shills telling me "its a space simulator not an mmo", yet it plays like life is feudal in space with world of warplanes attached.
Most importantly CR wants ti make multiple SQ42.. if that game is a success he will immediately funnel all resources to sequels. Hope and pray its mesiocre ifnyou actually wasnt SC to ever succeed.
So, as of you releasing this video on UA-cam, Citizencon has been going on, and for the same 2 days, the servers have been "Seriously degraded" (read unplayably broken). A perfect illustration of the copium-world of CIG/RSI, and the reality of the product. While the CIG/RSI nerds perform a gigantic public circle jerk, the fundamentals of the game are just as, if not more so, broken as they were 3-5 years ago. Literally everything you talk about in this video utterly fail to match any objectively real experience of actually playing the "game". This is an endless daydream of what "could" be in the future, but looking at the track record of CIG/RSI, simply will substantially fail to deliver. But hey, I feel bad for you, as your entire existence on the internet is wrapped up in this game, and it is just tragic to see someone's identity so inexorably tied to a product that they have no control over. That being said, your tactic of, "people called me on my BS, so I claim it is a joke," that you are doing in the comments, Most people learned to see through that in middle school.
As a long time sc backer. I hope for the commercial failure of squadron 42. Otherwise Chris Roberts will never stop selling Star citizen ships to finance yet another chapter. Squadron 42 is the biggest problem with Star citizen and I just can't wait to see the gaming media shread it to pieces. sorry but this is good for Star citizen. otherwise we'll never get a game for another 20 years.

3:55 the way SQ 42 is "feature complete" is kind of misleading since its not content complete. Many hope for a "soon ™" release date at this years citizencon. We will see. 4:24 editing in the beggar is quite fitting given this years sales marathon. Engineering: So much work going down the drain for these features. What gameplay is this supposed to be. Of course you have to "take care" of your ship. But what is this supposed to look like, especially with maelstrom? A ship only left with the interiors, but because there is an engineering crew in there, it won't blow up, ever? With the new direction that fights are only supposed to take a few minutes (15?) with engineers now it takes 20 minutes? (thats a gigantic buff of 33%) But taking into account that you could have fighters or other ships filled with crew instead of engineers. Will be quite hard to balance. Its another feature in tier 0 with clunky animations, another source for bugs. That it has been in development for so long doesn't mean anything we see that it doesn'T mean anything. Master Modes: Yea this will change forever to attract as many customers as possible once they have your money. I actually like the newer way with MM, but MM doesn't really fit with engineering. Weird mix that in my opinion is contradicting and one side will end up with the shorter stick. Major FPS Change: The Sim aspect of the game also does not fit to the new MM. MFDs overall are still too "rule of cool" (not functional) and too filled up. 13:15 So you are saying SQ42 and SC will be released at the same time? Thats impossible, at least not if you consider a fair scope and a close timeframe. Unless your agree with the statement of CIG that SC is already released. SC will take at least another 8 years or so. SQ42 as you say is crucial from a financial point of view otherwise SC will be dead, well it is, but thats another topic. Server Meshing the holy grail. That remains to be seen. I don't believe that anymore unless they harshly reduce the scope thus its not star citizen anymore.
@@elh0242 lol, keep saying that after a few years, SC is still going to be in development for at least the next 5-10 years while they keep adding new ships to take your money.
I could say the exact opposite, and act like I speak for everyone. The fact is, that sq42 is what brought many people in. I am very glad they are dedicating resources to it. It will fund sc for a long time. SC doesn't get into the mainstream without squadron. I'd rather them shut down star citizen for 6-12 months to make some real progress, but the bottom line is that people are here for sq42. I understand that people playing star citizen have been there for the long haul, but let's not kid ourselves..there aren't enough tech nerds like me out there to make the game successful. Star citizen is entirely dependent on breaking into the mainstream, via sq42.
They just buffed ships though, what will we do! Also, can you put me in touch with where ever I need to go to get paid? That'd be useful. Other wise, it's people like yourself who pay me :P
I’m to a point where I just wanna unfollow your channel, this game is a shit show right now I played every form of the PTU and I was not surprised when I ran into a ton of issues trying to play the live update, fanboys of this game annoy me now and days and I used to be one of them, but people really need to wake up
Clickbait title, not impressed with the content. You sound like all those Star Citizen super fans that came before, they all drank the coolaid, and years later they woke up. Oh and faboys, don't bother trying to flame me, I have been around SC for a decade and I have seen and heard all your crap.
I understand you wanting to keep content exclusive for your paying customers but seriously, six months out of date for Star Citizen? That's effectively worthless to everyone. You may as well not bother.
Any videos that are time sensitive I try to release in better time. But to be honest, NONE of these videos ever take the place of a normal video, it's EXTRA content. I don't see why I shouldn't bother if some people still want the extra content at the end of the day.
I don’t find this worthless, when watching the video there is a lot that I’m reminded about from the last Citcon. This is a great primer for those who want a refresher of what we’re still expecting, even if it won’t be talked about during the event. Even if we forget about Citcon altogether and just examine the video, its main topics haven’t changed. It still sets the stage for why 2024 has had a change in tone for player discussions. What we’re missing and expecting from the game for 4.0 and beyond. Circling back to Citcon though, I’d appreciate a follow-up video to this after the Star Citizen 1.0 discussion. See how many of the talking points in the video are in-line with the games future, and see what CIG has decided to change. Which talking points do you feel are out of date? The video was made during 3.23 and the only major change between then and now was cargo elevators (which wasn’t a talking point in this video)

The weather demo featured a Zeus flying through a thunderstorm with no such indicator in the cockpit and a suggested topspeed of 525m/s. I'm unsure what to make of this but I have a gut feeling that we haven't seen everything that Yogi has in store for the flight model yet.
Thanks for the excellent content! 🍅
Thank you!
Thanks for another, superbly produced, exclusive video! Love the content.
Thanks for tuning in, M!
Will players who bought the game at the very beginning have to buy Sqdn 42 seperately? Or is it included in our original pledges?
If you're an OG backer, you almost guaranteed have it for free. If you log in to the site and find your OG backers package in your hangar, it should have "Squadron 42 Digital Download" as an item in it. That's your free access to SQ42. If you melted the package to get something else, it may not be there. If that's the case, might be worth seeing how much it would be to melt that and buyback the original backer package from the buyback section then get whatever other thing you have as an upgrade instead.
It's included
Fantastic video my friend
Thank you!
Great video, i enjoyed it. Thank you!
Great overview of what's going down - appreciate it. :)
Thanks for watching!
Do I still think this game, or games is/are impossible: Yes
Do I enjoy watching Citizencon, despite believing it’s impossible, and knowing I’d never have the hardware to play it: YES
"I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship, so I Became a Space Mercenary", look it up
I agree that it would be ideal for Star Citizen to be ready when Squadron 42 ships.
In fact, if only first few chapters of SQ42 are fully polished, I would advocate shipping those, then ship the follow-on chapters as they become polished.
lol, SC won’t be ready for years.
I kinda want us all to tune into Citizen Con just for them to tell us they are working on a plan for the next year and will tell us when it's ready, then just never tell us 😂
Maan, I am so waiting for your videos about the con, everyone is just posting the pannels right now, I want your take on all this ! ahah
Every year is SQ42 two years away, but every year it feels more real and close. So every year the stakes feel higher and higher. ;-)
holy moly i cant wait for citcon
I hate the new inventory system, it makes no sense for FPS items. It is such a pain in the ass to go looting NPC's
Literally one of the worst I have ever seen. Beyond tedious.
#4 made me poop myself, sir. Top tier content!
I'm a little worried about the financial viability of SC and whether they'll have enough money to actually finish the game. I just read the Inside Gaming article and it has me a little nervous and a tad bit angry about some of the wasted time. Could we have had a good game by now without all the iterations and constant changes? I dunno.
I’m right there with you dude, and I believe everything in that video given my recent experience with star citizen in the last couple of months
That article is fake

Love these extra videos!
Glad you like them! They are super fun to make.
Space Tomato is the *only* channel I go to for a clean, informative review of Star Citizen’s progress, be that what it may 😅
Nice video my friend!!
Becoming a game? News to me lol.
Another decade of development will be ridiculous.
why are you calling me one of the oldest :D :D come on man... even if it's true.. :)
😜
Ah yes here is all the rage filled salty takes i come to tomato for
(Its a joke dont kill me)
It finally...
:)
So.....this video just released 50 minutes ago but he keeps mentioning things coming in 3.23??
It is a 'member's only' video from earlier in the year
This video was released to supporters earlier in the year. It's now been made public
So, can we expect a full release in the coming years?
They need to get it running properly for 1.0, so quite a bit to go
Server Meshing "Working" is a a bit crazy.
At this point i just hope Sqadron 42 will fail and everything will be over soon.
tldr: might, will, should, is going to, perhaps, could and finally "as promised"
You missed "maybe"
@@SpaceTomato my god... thats a glaring omission. That literally changes everything at this point.... maybe.
Mastermodes makes me never want to play the game again. that and the flight hud changes, and the sniper glint, and the hash marks when you hit/down/kill someone, and...
I still think master modes is dragging the game
I get peoples hype for this after citizen con. But the fact that they’re talking about a 1.0 release. It’s not really around the corner it’s another few years off. They can’t even release the system yet and it’s been 12 years. I think people need to keep the expectations in check because this whole event was a marketing ploy to get people hyped again. For all we know all this stuff is gonna be in the game but when is the real question? What’s the point of all this stuff is going to be another 10 years away?
Okay I removed the joke hahaha
To be clear im not saying CIG is cashgrabbing but its logical why people think they do!
@@damaddmann Yeah... sometimes it actually feels like as if they've forgotten what a GAME is...
"Why I Think Discussion Around Star Citizen Feels Different Now"
Cause atm Nothing works in game, and its expected to be a shitshow for the forseable future.
I am not looking forward to engineering
Most importantly CR wants ti make multiple SQ42.. if that game is a success he will immediately funnel all resources to sequels. Hope and pray its mesiocre ifnyou actually wasnt SC to ever succeed.
2024 was supposed to be the year they delivered but they didnt
3.24.2 live launch has been pretty much unplayable..Not quite as bad as 3.18 but not far off.
# 1 too many fraudulent JPEG sales!
And we know who is the slimey one!
That Is an incredibly dumb take
@@MaLcH10R I'll drink to your post when the reviews are out. A decade of hype will make cyberpunk's botched launch look good in comparison. I personally can't wait to lol at CIGs reaction. Spectrum is going to be amazingly entertaining 🤣
@@walawala-fo7ds Bro, he's gonna do that either way. The PU and SQ42 are tied together for good. What's bad for one is bad for the other.
what's different? the worlds greatest grifter will stand up and promise the moon, deliver on none it, rake in another 100 mill from the suckers, and do the exact same thing next year
Wea ctually have 12 moons.
How about fix the damn servers....I'm amazed anyone believes anything these people say.
Not following the server meshing development, eh?
people are tired of financing Chris Roberts movie while paying for the MMO he refused to prioritize but marketed for a decade.
Lol you don't speak for others 🤡
@@elh0242 Cope bro.

I understand you wanting to keep content exclusive for your paying customers but seriously, six months out of date for Star Citizen? That's effectively worthless to everyone. You may as well not bother.
How is this video out of date?
He kept pace with CIG's rate of content delivery this year, in my estimation.
