Boris V Spider those pods on top of the fuselage near the aft section is where the satellite dishes are. These dishes provide something called kA band and ku band frequency which has the same broadband speed as your 3G and 4G network. They are synonymous with their large hump and can easily be recognisable.

I live in Lubbock Texas and our airport is a popular spot for aircraft to come practice crosswind take offs and landings. In fact Boeing has brought their 737-800 Max and they’d 787 Dreamliner here to test against our winds. Some days they can blow 30 knots and gust up to 50-70 knots. They cancel flights on the 50-60 knot wind days. But a normal day here has around here 10-20 knot wind.

As a child it was my dream to fly and I always thought I’d be a commercial pilot. I stopped my training after obtaining a private license to pursue a corporate career which I don’t regret. With that said, I still love flying and appreciate the insight from such a competent and passionate pilot.

Zero flying hours but I know how to taxi, increase thrust, rotate, gear-up, bug-up, adjust flaps, and switch on autopilot. I think.

  • @mrvwbug4423
    @mrvwbug4423 5 років тому +6

The weathervaning is something I had heard about ages ago but had forgotten about, but have experienced regularly when I fly in X Plane (the aircraft turning into the wind on takeoff in a crosswind). The assumed temp on derate is still something I am trying to learn for 737 (the 767 seems to automatically derate based on OAT). Airbus just calculates it for you automatically on the A320s. I am just a lowly simulator pilot, but still enjoy trying to make the experience as realistic as I can get, and I have fairly accurately modeled versions of the 737-800, A319, and 767-300 in X Plane.

As a private pilot with less than 200 hours flying Cessna 172s and Cherokee 140s, I can really see how nice it'd be to have a co-pilot. Just having someone to call "Speed Check" when raising or lowering the flaps or calling out "VR"would be great.

Thank you for your diligent presentation of details.
Would you please comment on small airplane techniques that are apparently not applicable to the NG? In mind are taking off in a slip such that the airplane rolls and then flies down the center line while also pointed straight down the runway - contrary to the video showing a plane crabbing severely while still somewhat supported by the wheels. Also, one can clear the ground rapidly and positively by holding the aircraft down on the runway to a higher rotation speed. The wings produce plentiful lift at higher speed without the need for a high AOA helping avoid tail strike.

It's the same in a jet as it is in a Piper Cub (and much more important in a Piper Cub :) But too much of the world only does training in a sim nowadays which precludes learning how to really fly an aircraft, and they end up landing perfectly good B-777's in the San Francisco bay.

examen: 67% 😩 good that I am only a passenger 😂. But I loved the video, now I understand even more why the airplanes "behave" so differently at take-offs, because different conditions requires quite different actions. By the way: the roughest landing in my life was in a Ryanair 737, and the softest landing ever, extremly soft where I didn't notice the touch down at all, was a Ryanair 737 too. Looking forward to my 5th flight this year @Mentour "s airline" in 4 weeks!

I used to play with Microsoft Flight Sim, doing the bad weather challenge approach using the C172.
The crosswind was so strong, I landed pointing direct 90 deg to the assigned runway and stopped without touching grass.
No exactly realistic, but that was still hard.

Got a 94% pass rate. Though only due to my interpretation of "right of mentour" from my point of view haha. But I'm pretty psyched I got that far :D Gotta stay above that important 75% from now on so these exams are nice now and then. Excellent video as always. I learn very well by visual cues so seeing your actions in the flight deck along with verbal eplainations I graps a lot or all of it very well so thank you! I will have to give kudos to you in the future somehow for all the help and knowledge you've shared with me and everyone. Keep it up.

    Nice work captain!
It would be interesting to show how you perform crosswind landing in ffs in addition to video which was published year ago.

87% on exan. Question on pillow, to right of mentor, from mentors perspective or mine. I answered from mine. Wrong. I also dont share much on social media.
    Great video

now that we have seen this crosswind takeoff video. How does the wx radar works? what does it picks up? does it only detect thunderstorms or normal precipitations ?

Hi, I'm learning to be a mechanic so personally if you'd go into more "technical specifics" in your future videos, we mechanics would definitely benefit from it...
Love your pod cast and appreciate it a lot!
    BTW. Awesome website and app.

87% - I'll take that for a train geek lol
BTW you make this look so easy. I've just tried it in x-plane, I have no engine one left lol

Awwww, almost there... I got 94% but failed on the pillow question :P
It was correct from my perspective as the question didn't specify Mentour's point of view, but the rest and the technical stuff was dead on, even my assumed Quiz answer to the Social media one.
I wanted to answer No there, why? Because I do not participate in any social media :D

As a non-pilot, and having been in a plane only a handful of times, I am surprised at how much manual control is involved in taking off.
