This video! This video, right here, is why you are amazing!! Thank you for your extremely detailed and professional explanations of ...well...every single part of whatever you are teaching at the moment. Again, I wish you were my pilot on every flight! ;-) Kudos, brother!!
@@MentourPilot can you plz do a video on what those pods are for on top of the fusalage, i have no idea what they for why they need to be external to the aircraft?
Boris V Spider those pods on top of the fuselage near the aft section is where the satellite dishes are. These dishes provide something called kA band and ku band frequency which has the same broadband speed as your 3G and 4G network. They are synonymous with their large hump and can easily be recognisable.
I got 80% on the quiz but I'm not studying to be a pilot. I like to know as many details of flight as possible when I'm a passenger. Knowledge is power and it helps to alleviate some fear to flying as well.
14:12 I'm sorry, I know piloting isn't a spectator sport but as both airline passenger and flight simmer, watching you do this is like watching a cool guitar solo or something. It's beautiful.
I got 100% ... that's a reflection of your skills as a 'mentor' and nothing to do with my skills as a pilot (I'm a paying passenger with no plans for any pilot training!). Please keep this content coming ... the best on UA-cam in any category!
I live in Lubbock Texas and our airport is a popular spot for aircraft to come practice crosswind take offs and landings. In fact Boeing has brought their 737-800 Max and they’d 787 Dreamliner here to test against our winds. Some days they can blow 30 knots and gust up to 50-70 knots. They cancel flights on the 50-60 knot wind days. But a normal day here has around here 10-20 knot wind.
As a child it was my dream to fly and I always thought I’d be a commercial pilot. I stopped my training after obtaining a private license to pursue a corporate career which I don’t regret. With that said, I still love flying and appreciate the insight from such a competent and passionate pilot. Thanks for everything you do for your channel, Mentour!
Mark From Texas same i also love aviation when i was a baby!! I count myself as an aviator because i love airplanes! Sat in a cockpit before in the RAF museum
12/15 - 80%. Confidence inspiring. Zero flying hours but I know how to taxi, increase thrust, rotate, gear-up, bug-up, adjust flaps, and switch on autopilot. I think. That would make for a bad captain's announcement. Haha. I'll leave the flying to the experts. But I would love to try a simulator.
"Zero flying hours but I know how to taxi, increase thrust, rotate, gear-up, bug-up, adjust flaps, and switch on autopilot." So you're an Airbus pilot? 😏
Yay, I just passed the exam with 15/15! I'm a bit too short sighted for ever obtaining an ATPL, but I'm an avid sim pilot instead. And that's also thanks to your awesome videos. I learnt something new again and now I can't wait for a bit of crosswind in my next sim session. Cheers!
The weathervaning is something I had heard about ages ago but had forgotten about, but have experienced regularly when I fly in X Plane (the aircraft turning into the wind on takeoff in a crosswind). The assumed temp on derate is still something I am trying to learn for 737 (the 767 seems to automatically derate based on OAT). Airbus just calculates it for you automatically on the A320s. I am just a lowly simulator pilot, but still enjoy trying to make the experience as realistic as I can get, and I have fairly accurately modeled versions of the 737-800, A319, and 767-300 in X Plane.
As a private pilot with less than 200 hours flying Cessna 172s and Cherokee 140s, I can really see how nice it'd be to have a co-pilot. Just having someone to call "Speed Check" when raising or lowering the flaps or calling out "VR"would be great.
Just wanted to thank you for your videos! I’m a nervous traveler and I find them extremely helpful to look at things from the pilot perspective. Yesterday our plane after aborting first landing attempt successfully did that in second go. In the raging winds of the storm Eunice. I thanked the pilot and I thank you for the professional and awesome job you do. And I always remember-have a FANTASTIC DAY 😊

@@eo9692 94% for me too (14/15). I used t 15 knots for both the assumed temp and the junior FO ban. The pillows question was easy. Green on the right, red on the left, like the nav lights!

AWESOME stuff *-->* Crosswind takeoffs/ landings are one of the more challenging tasks that a pilot can have at the beginning of his/ her flight or at the end.
@@MentourPilot why don't you make a video about what happens if you pitch up or down very much? This would complete the other video "what happens if you roll an airliner".
Absolutely fantastic as always. Could you please cover the landing gears and tyres? They seem to take serious loads while crabbing on crosswind takeoffs and landings. What are their limits? Specifications of design and operation? Thank you in advance for the top quality content.
The quiz is a great addition to these kinds of videos. It really puts you on the spot after watching it. I managed to only fail the rotation rate question. I had to go back and confirm you actually mentioned it, and indeed you did ;)
Thanks for explaining the rolling takeoff. I have always thought that was more about impatience on the pilots part and it always made me a tad nervous lol.
I'm a big fan of these sim videos you've started doing. As someone who is about to begin their ATPL it fills be with some excitement and a lot of fear as it seems like a lot to learn.

While in the simulator, are you allowed to experiment with deviation from SOPs? It would be fascinating to see why some procedures are mandated by experiencing the consequences of alternate ideas - with viewers watching, of course.
Thanks for another great video, Captain! I'm not a pilot in training, but these videos really enhance my home simulator experience. Perhaps one day I'll actually be able to afford real flight lessons and get a license (would love to be a private small jet pilot).
Nice !! In a piper .. it’s opposite to a airliner .. deflection of aileron into wind is highest at beginning and as we speed up slowly neutralise the aileron
Can you also do a Video on crosswind Landing? Also: what is the highest wind Speed you are allowed to land with and what do you do if they are to high and you cant divert to an other Airport?
As a non - pilot, I think the questions about dogs, pillows and steps are to teach you to be observant of your surroundings. Really interesting video, thanks Mentour 👍
Thank you for your diligent presentation of details. Would you please comment on small airplane techniques that are apparently not applicable to the NG? In mind are taking off in a slip such that the airplane rolls and then flies down the center line while also pointed straight down the runway - contrary to the video showing a plane crabbing severely while still somewhat supported by the wheels. Also, one can clear the ground rapidly and positively by holding the aircraft down on the runway to a higher rotation speed. The wings produce plentiful lift at higher speed without the need for a high AOA helping avoid tail strike.
keep going metour and treat us by more challenges any of normal or emergency circumstancing because we love, enjoy and learn from you in anyways. by the way I have done the quiz by 87%
80% ... the questions about dogs, pillows, and I didn't even notice the one about the steps! Funny thing is, saying "to the right" could mean either ... is it from the viewer's perpspective or from within the shot?
I just did my first cross-wind (winch) TO in a glider... No power-setting to worry about, but still a bit scary. Just as in this video, a LOT of aileron was needed to keep the wings level - and a gliders wings are both long, and near to the ground! Flying is not as easy as it looks!
Another well done video. Basic airmanship 101. It's the same in a jet as it is in a Piper Cub (and much more important in a Piper Cub :) But too much of the world only does training in a sim nowadays which precludes learning how to really fly an aircraft, and they end up landing perfectly good B-777's in the San Francisco bay.
