Hi Valerie I just want to give you the heads up about the plant you have on your island it is called a Dieffenbachia Seguine or Dumb Cane the info about it is --Poisonous characteristics
The leaves of the Dumbcane plant contain needle-like calcium oxalate crystals and proteolytic enzymes. Eating the leaves can cause TEMPORARY PARALYSIS OF THE MOUTH, TONGUE, THROAT AND VOCAL CORDS. If accidentally rubbed into the eyes the crystals from the leaf can cause TEMPORARY VISION LOSS and SWELLING OF THE EYELID.
    When observing this plant
If possible, avoid contact with its leaves. Do not eat its leaves. If you inadvertently touch the leaves of this plant, wash your hands thoroughly before touching your mouth, eyes or the area surrounding them.
Dieffenbachia is generally known as Dumb Cane, Exotica or Tropic Snow and it's poisonous to both dogs and cats. This plant's harmful toxins can result in burning/swelling of the mouth and tongue as well as difficulty in swallowing, vomiting, and increased salivation
Please be careful with it Valerie

We, too, have a great relationship and he helps me so much around our home here in Alabama. We recently retired and are enjoying spending our days together. We will be married 51 years next month. We married at 17 and so many people said it wouldn't last, but when you know, you know!! We knew we wanted to be together for the rest of our lives!! We're working on it !! 😂😂
Take care sweet Valerie. God bless you and yours. ❤❤

How about some garlic and some chives or winter onions? Chives will take over too and you get a lot for a little spot. Maybe put them in a small square pot and another square pot of sage. They could share one of your rectangular spots easily. Two in a spot. Or lemon thyme or something really fragrant like spearmint would be great for iced tea and smells great out on your deck too. Once again it’s a mint so in its own pot. As in all herbs, the more you cut off the more they grow. Our neighbor has chives. His grew into his yard. Now when he mows it smells like oniony chives two blocks away lol. Also here’s a tip: when you cut up onions, put a wet paper towel beside them as you cut. You won’t have tears. Plus if your hands are oniony, wash them well then rub them all over your stainless faucet. It takes the onion smell right off them! My grandma taught me that. It works! Plus if you roll your lemons while pressing hard on them with your hand or microwave one for 15-20 secs you’ll get twice as much juice from them. Love your little herb kitchen garden.

  • @Brownmahfun

I would put basil into its own pot because the amount of water it needs may kill the other herbs. Some herbs are not meant to be planted together, it is best to find out which ones can be planted together. Rosemarry is an invasive plant and will take over the whole bed, I would plant it by itself in a large pot. You can buy a marble cutting board or quartz, that's not to thick or heavy, maybe from a remnant store.

  • @sallygombita

I miss my old rubbery cutting board. It was yellow and in the shape of a lemon.I ordered two new square ones in lime color. One is small and one is regular size that slides too.I put a round rubber thingy under them,It opens stuck jar lids.I like to marinate my meats and chicken in good old Italian salad dressing in zip locks for a day or two.I used to overcook my chicken. Now I bake them at 350 for 40 mins or less.

WOW Valerie your garden boxes near ya'll new shed is really thriving alot...it looks AWESOME..GOOD JOB!!! also you will love having that lil herb garden on your porch near your kitchen...one of the herbs you didn't plant is something that I planted years ago and I am still harvesting off of them....that is green onions ( some people may call them onion tops or scallions) here in south Louisiana we call then green onions ☺ ....what I did to get myself started with the onion tops is this...I bought between 3-5 bunches at the grocery store and/or my local produce stands....I cut each bundle right above the root stems maybe 1-1/2 to 2 inches above the roots... then stuck them in the dirt leaving a tiny part of the top stem showing above the dirt...trust me they will grow for you...I have never purchased green onions again from a store!! oh and by the way....I chop up the long stem green onions and put them in a zip lock bag in my freezer....I have them all chopped and ready to add to my food ( I also do that with my celery and bell peppers...I chop and freeze them too .... ALSO another herb is oregano...that is a good herb for spaghetti sauces...any Italian dishes actually!! Good gardening ....Happy Days!! 🙂👍

I am so glad you and family have met new friends to share a barbecue cookout on Memorial Day! My hubby served in the U.S. Army and was wounded in Vietnam. I live in Tennessee. You sound so excited about your herb garden and l know it will be a blessing to have herbs anytime right outside your own back door. I live in a small apt., and l have a variety of houseplants. Valerie, you can grow anything and half of my plants have died. I wouldn't have room for them all if they had all survived. Today was a rough day emotionally. A close family member really hurt me and l have cried all day, it almost made me physically sick. You are very blessed with your beautiful family and homestead. God has been so faithful and graced me with a lot of blessings but sometimes there are a lot of tears too. Well, l plan to take a day all to myself and treat myself to a special shopping spree and Cracker Barrel lunch. Of course, sharing it with a loved one is better but sometimes l have to work hard on forgiveness, "get my bearings" as my beloved Mom would often say, and just have some alone time. Sorry for unloading, just venting to anyone who will listen. Your video lifted my spirits so thank you! Your meals always look delicious, l know your family is so appreciative. God Bless!

Your garden box off the kitchen for your herbs is nice. I grow different flavored mints. One of the vlogs i watch also grows mint. She has apple 🍎 and chocolate 🍫 mint. She dries the leaves 🍃 and saves them to make tea with. She uses the apple 🍎 mint tea for tummy aches. Just a thought.
It looks like you have some room on your side porch for some pots. My chocolate 🍫 mint cascades over the side of the container. It's really pretty. It smells wonderful when I water it too. I have plans to look for recipes. Hopefully, I can find a chocolate 🍫 mint ice cream 🍦 recipe to make. We'll see 👀.

I know everyone and their momma seasons the veggies directly on the sheet pan these days, but I feel like it’s actually way easier to keep them in the strainer, at the sink, add the oil and seasoning and give a good toss with one hand, and its super easy to rinse your hand after.. idk, that’s just how I do it.

A little butter in a frying pan with diced chicken, some crushed garlic or garlic powder,
Sprinkle it with chopped dill. Easy quick meal and it’s delicious

Thank you for the suggestions. I think I'm gonna plant some sage and oregano. I've never used coriander. I'll have to look up some recipes. 😊🤗😃🌄

The mint is really invasive. Once the roots get in the ground there's no way of getting it under control. I put a plant in our flower bed now it everywhere. We pull it all up we thought then came spring and it's growing everywhere.

Love your herb garden. Thinking of getting me one. The dinner looked so delicious! When you cut those pieces off your chicken you can save them and sauté them for you doggies. The fat is very good for their coat. Hope you have a wonderful day!

You're smart to plant your own herbs. They're so expensive to buy in the store. They're also easy to dry.

Please save all your scraps for compost. Don’t throw them away. They make great compost. You can actually dig a hole in those race beds and throw them scraps in there and the worms will just love it.

Hi Valerie I’ve been growing herbs for 50+ years
I know that you will enjoy them fresh & then harvested for use in the cold months TARRAGON is a great herb for chicken & for fish Remember, that when using fresh herbs you can use quite a bit more than dried herbs (as the oils become concentrated as herbs dry) Also, you might want to add your fresh herbs later in the cooking process as they are more delicate than when dry
ENJOY AS YOU EXPERIMENT LEARN & TEACH 🎉🎉🎉 Wishing you sweet & savory treats always

Saying "hey ya'll!" From Arkansas. Me and my daughter spend most of this sunny Saturday power washing half the stuff in our yard today. We are worn out. Just relaxing and enjoying watching you guys work now lol! I can so relate to you guys. We have a little 20 acre farm and we stay busy all summer. Love you videos!

Don't forget to save the garlic skins and other kitchen scraps for your compost. You had a nice mix of nitrogen and carbon to put in with your compost. Egg 🥚 shells are nice too. Uh oh! Carrot 🥕 ends didn't make it to the compost. I had a pig 🐖 for close to twenty years so I made sure that she could not get to my compost bins since I put coffee ☕️ grounds and filters in mine. Coffee ☕️ grounds can be fatal to pigs 🐖.
Compost is amazing. It's a natural fertilizer for the garden.

Awesome yummy meal. Thanks a lot for making your viewers hungry! Lol
For your consideration...I put all my veggies in a bowl with the oil and spices and then pour them onto the cookie sheet for baking or air frying. The flavors get incorporated more thoroughly in the bowl. Uses less oil and oil prices are getting ridiculous.
