I loved camping and cooking on a camp fire. When I was a boy my best friend and I slept outside at one of our many campsites in the summer more than we slept in a bed, If it was not raining we slept outside and when it rained we slept in the barn loft. Good memories.!! Your kids will remember these times for the rest of their life.
We used to do the same thing! Cook corn and burgers while the kids played in the creek! We even had a hammock up too. Great family times! Wonderful video Meagan! Enjoy those family moments! 😊❤
As you both focus on self sufficiency very successfully one thing you said is that you don't heat with wood. You are in a warmer climate than we are here in northern PA, but we heat our home with a wood stove. You can store wood for years if you keep it dry, and there is a lot of comfort in knowing you do not rely on any system outside your home for heat. Burning the stove in the winter is not too much work, but like Andy said about the burgers tasting better outside, the wood heat feels so much warmer than any other type of heat. The feeling of satisfaction you get from being self sufficient is warming to the soul. A full larder of canned goods, a full freezer and a full woodshed makes for a happy heart! Keep up the terrific work and videos!
The way our house is laid out a wood stove would be out of the question unfortunately. I absolutely love wood heat, that’s what I grew up with, maybe one of these days we could figure out how to make it work!
I really enjoyed this, cooking over an open flame is hard to beat. That looks like a really nice peaceful spot there by the creek. Can’t beat the family time either. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻❤️🙏🏻😇🙌🏻
This is such a great spot on your property. No wonder your children love to play there. It's so much better for them doing this than to play on their phones or whatever. I definitely need to practice more cooking outside.
Things do taste better outside, I am wondering if the cooking temperature is higher plus the smokey smell just makes it better. I want to make an outdoor cooking area with an old wood burning cook stove so I can cook and also can out there next to the spring house. Those roasting ears looked good!
So far so good, we built this particular set up back in early spring. I don't know how the long term will be, but they are holding up great to the heat so far. Good luck on the smoke house! How exciting! That's one thing I'd love to have!
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays my wife is the one that emailed you about that stainless pot. I will get her to email yall some pictures of it. I'm almost done with it and I am excited.
Meagan, I love this video. This is not about this video. Ok so I came across the same thing on your "turtle" problem. I put my game cam out and I found out that it was mocking birds doing this to my tomatoes. I put up netting over mine. I have a 5 acre garden. Hope this helps ya.
Good clean living. Love it!
Yes! Thank you!
Bravo, them kids will never forget this. Bravo
Yes! Burgers, or any meat, cooked over fire taste so much better!

Hey I have a legit question, I am in the middle of building a smoke house out of cinder blocks. Just wondering how those blocks stand up to that heat
