many years ago, on my 25th birthday, I had the pleasure of spending a day with him and having dinner with him and my Grandfather. Wonderful experience. My interpretation of "over the top" has always been in regards to the right should coming over the top in the swing. I know you are referring to something different here. Great video and thank you.
He's come in for a lot of criticism in recent years but the man is a legend. He might have odd flaw himself but to me that just makes him more personable.
Gary Player came to my hometown in Maryland and played a charity event at the course I grew up playing. I recall this was in the summer of 1978 the year he won his second Masters. It was a fund raiser for our hospital. He raised quite a lot of money that day and absolutely destroyed that course! He shot a 63. Brantwood Golf Club in Elkton Maryland. That course is long gone now but the day Gary Player
I was there that day as well. He held his weighted club straight out between two fingers, then offered a new set of clubs to anyone who could match his feat. No one could. Very impressive!
Solid words from my fellow south african. you have to out work them. hard work is what makes a champion. btw, have you ever looked into swinging a club that is about 3 to 6kgs in weight. I recently improved my tennis swing by using a 3kg weight. I quickly learned what the optimal swing path is. There is a specific swing path that is optimal and efficient. anything else is just wasted movement and the heavy weight gives immediate feedback. I know this is something Nicklaus talked about a lot. he used to practise with two clubs and I never understood that until now
Hi Christo, I appreciate you and your passion for the history of golf and the swings of it. A name not mentioned yet but this man was a sweet swinging OTT legend is the one and only "Silver Scot" Tommy Armour. Take a look, you will appreciate it 🤙!
There’s so much confusion in golf instruction. Leadbetter talks about hands stay inside and the club outside on the takeaway. Players takeaway the club go inside. If you stop at 3 to four feet turn to your right the face is open. For me personally it works to take the club inside on the takeaway and then I don’t cut a crossed it at impact.
Ive been crushing my irons with my ugily ott swing for 20 years now, can hit a 7 iron where ever i want to put it 200 yards, just cant control my driver consistenly for power or accuracy day to day with it
My ‘feel’ is that I drag the club away from the ball with my right arm during my backswing. This pulls my left arm across my chest and takes the club head to the inside. Half way back I stand the club head up i.e. swing the club up on its end. Then just swing down through the ball. Suddenly I’m hitting it out of the sockets.
If you want good swings, Tom Weiskopf and Johnny Miller in my estimation were better than all the ones mentioned. Swinging from the inside is were the power comes from but it important not to over swing it. When I want to fade the ball I bring it back a little straighter than inside and finish inside if I want to draw the ball I swing inside outside. Swing path allows me to work the ball, look at your divot. You have a great swing but what makes it to me is your timing and tempo and that makes a great golf swing, my opinion.
@@MiracleSwingExperience Pull with the left side (left hand side of back) and left arm for good tempo on downswing. Pushing with right side/arm gets twitchy and snatchy. Works for me
It's not a contrived "over". Is it not the result (in part) of his weight already beginning to transfer to the left foot and the initializing of his left hip beginning to rotate? He may be allowing the club to move "over" with a smidget of help but it's more of a fluid and subtle over as a result of previous movements going on in the swing. I think isolating the movement without talking about what's going on with the weight shift / and turning of the hips would be akin to owning Park Place but NOT Boardwalk. The two are connected in a synergy that creates the ideal scenario for everything coming together naturally and effortlessly. Thanks Now let us pray 🙏
Love your work and inspiring journey Christo. However I can't keep Player in such a high esteem since he cheated in the Open 1974, our oldest championship. Remarkable how the R&A didn't react and disqualified him.
Not many seem to do. But the evidence is for all to see when watching the official Open film and it occured att the 18th hole before Player played his 3rd shot (left handed) next to the clubhouse. I’ll let you all see and judge for yourselves if it is ok to improve one’s lie like Player did before hitting his shot. What baffles me is R&A didn’t do anything about it, yet they were right there and an official even denied him relief from the clubhouse building seconds before.
On his collar? Not disagreeing but NBC Sports works with communist China. If folks are going to point fingers they can look at a lot of uncool partnerships for sure.
I’ve been over top for ever I go for lessons and they try to change it Get fitted while changing swings Doesn’t work As an amateur Easier to take away to inside
Well, you are wrong, but I get what you meen and it is not wrong, just här me out now. That is not over the top and i think it might be missleading for some players. If a player would have an outside takeaway and do that downswing they would indeed be over the top and slice or pull every shot. What Gary player does and you teach is NOT over the top, it is inside swing plane and then right back on the swing plane, you can ho inside takeaway, outside takeaway, One plane swing, as long as you get back ON the swing plane you will hit pretty straight shots. All ways are the right way, but i think to say it is over the top is wrong and might be missleading.
Gary Player is religious? What religion is Gary Player ? Gary Players wife is part of the Mormon Church that is not a Christian Church and Gary Player should be told that Jesus Christ started 1 Church and there is no salvation outside that Church , Jesus Church is not optional to go into men started Churches. Jesus Christ Holy Catholic Church as Ignatius of Antioch taught by Apostle John said in 107 AD wherever the Bishops appear let the people be wherever Jesus Christ is so is the Catholic Church…

He’s a great man. He won his third Masters in 1978. I accidentally said two in this video as well. 🙏🏻

David Duvall called it getting on top of the plane
Feels like it’s under the plain going back and on plain on the downswing. 🤩 wow

Excellent analysis. Will give this a try

congrats to seeking out GP and for him to allow himself to be interviewed - love the whole series of interviews

Martin Ayers showed you the inside takeaway. Weren't you going to do a project with him?
I was lucky enough to spend time playing with him. His exact words…”Hands back and up. The club head is on a different path than the hands.”
Wow! Thank you for sharing this!

That’s a good move for sure.
If you take the club to inside wouldn’t the chance of shanking the ball increase?

All good stuff. I work on my tempo in the range but I get quick like many under pressure.

These guys that dug it out of the dirt with no teachers had longer careers and won more than the over coached golfers today.
Ben Hogan (& others) : OTT from Inside
i think you would find this video interesting.

I once heard The Black Knight call it the professional over the top in another video. What a legend!
I live that description!!!

I’d say that’s more Mike Austin in that swing back then Player and the rest had too swing hard wooden clubs etc
simple, most Pro's that swing "over the top" lay that shaft off on the way down..amateurs hold that shaft more up right
I’ve been over top for ever
I go for lessons and they try to change it
Get fitted while changing swings
Doesn’t work
As an amateur
Easier to take away to inside

Terrible breakdown of a great swing. THIS IS NOT OVER THE TOP!!
@Cody Dinger I find everyone is just trying to make a buck. I would agree with your comment
It’s 100% over the top. Literally.
This is no over the top swing ! The right shoulder of all good players goes down and not arround !
I don't get this.
Great information Christo and if Gary ever trusted in Christ ALONE as his savior he was immediately and permanently saved!
He is a good man.
Save your faux religion for a Drumpf page.

Nobody will tell you how great Gary Player is more than Gary Player.Huge egotist.
Perhaps, but he’s kind at the same time. He believes in himself and I understand he had a lot of shortcomings.
