Great list! We have some in common Some of mine are Usagi Sweet tooth Preacher Daytripper Pulp Mouse Guard Hellboy (sort of superhero ish I guess though) The Goon I Killed Adolf Hitler (or really any by Jason) Julios Day Fante Bukowski Parallel Lives Murder Falcon (sort of superheroish too I guess)
That’s a great list! And yes, Hellboy and Murder Falcon both went on my list as I was narrowing it down. I took them off because they were closer to super hero comics than any others.
Good video thank you. Love & Rockets is second to none and love Brubaker/Phillips work across all their titles. I don’t know if you would categorise Lazarus as a superhero comic but if not I would recommend that. Mister X by Los Bros and almost anything by Joe Sacco - The Fixer, Palestine. Oh and Berlin by Jason Lutes - superbly evocative tale of intra-war Germany.
Those are all great recommendations! And Mister X is actually a comic I haven’t read. Either the Hernandez run or otherwise! It’s always on my list. I just need to snag it.
YES! So glad to see Brubaker/Phillips make the list. Another great video as always, Taylor! There are plenty on this list that I haven’t read before which I’d like to check out. Thanks for showing them off!
I really liked your list. A lot of interesting comics in there. You mentioned some of my favorites like eight ball and Love & Rockets. I'm also a huge fan of Ed Brubaker and all that he does. A couple of comics I'd like for you to check out are Optic Nerve (published by Drawn & Quarterly) by Adrian Tomine. He starts off writing a few short stories in each issue, then one story per issue, then multiple issues for one story. Mostly slice of life stuff. He's also done a bunch of covers for the New Yorker. My favorite comic all together is American Splendor by Harvey Pekar. He writes about his own life as a file clerk in a hospital in Cleveland. It doesn't sound exciting at first but it's such a great read. Thanks for making cool videos
@@joelgreenlee9421 Thanks for watching! I have one collection of American Splendor, and love it! But, I need to get more. And I really dig Tomine! I have mini-comics box set thing D&Q released, Long distance cartoonist, and Summer Blonde. But, I need to get more.
Another great list! The only one I'm not really read on are Aliens related comics, having only read the Goodwin/Simonson one and the James Stokoe miniseries. It's hard to come up with a top 20, since I don't think there's a lot separating my top 20 from my top 100, but I'll just throw out five recommendations that aren't gonna be on many lists but I think should be: - "Arsene Schrauwen" by Olivier Schrauwen - "The Cage" by Martin Vaughn-James - "Conquering Armies" by Jean-Pierre Dionnet & Jean-Claude Gal - "The Man Without Talent" by Yoshiharu Tsuge - "Peplum" by Blutch And because I think there are far too many strips that get overlooked in best comics lists: - "Gasoline Alley" by Frank King - "The Kin-der-Kids" by Lyonel Feininger - "Krazy Kat" by George Herriman - "Polly and Her Pals" by Cliff Sterrett - "Prince Valiant" by Hal Foster
@@rickray1202 I’m definitely adding those first five to my list! I’ve never read those! And as far as the strips, I’ve always wanted to read Gasoline Alley and Prince Valiant! I think I’d love both.
Well as it goes I'm currently 'entertaining' the 2000ad forums with my top 100 Comics of all time (there's already 142 on that list! Don't ask) so I'm all prepared for this. In order (and editing the superhero stuff out - there are a few) we get: 1. Stray Bullets 2. Concrete 3. Nikolai Dante (from 2000ad) 4. Calvin and Hobbes 5. Grendel 6. Judge Dredd (by John Wagner) 7. Asterix (by Goscinny and Udzero) 8. Eightball 9. Bacchus 10. Lawless (from Judge Dredd Megazine) 11. Cerebus 12. Monica 13. Bone 14. Charley's War (from Battle / Battle Action) 15. Hate 16. Ducks 17. Corto Maltese 18. (I'm not counting Zot! so) Barefoot Gen 19. The Goon 20. Almost Silent (Jason) For context there are 4 superhero stories mixed in with those AND if any of those don't meet folks criteria then I'll add a few back ups, being, Flintstones (by Mark Russell), Cradlegrace (from 2000ad), The Spirit (by Will Eisner), Flaming Carrot.
@@colinynwa I LOVE the thought put into this list! 2000AD and the Battle Action stuff are big holes in my comics reading that I always want to explore more. I’ve read the hits like Dredd, Nemesis Warlock, Sláine, Halo Jones and some Thargs futureshocks. But there’s SO MUCH MORE to explore!
Let me know what YOUR favorite non-super hero comics are!
Man, I am loving these videos. Enjoying the overlap in our tastes as well as the new suggestions.

Good call on Jason. I take him for granted but my god he's great at creating a world that is equal parts funny, absurd and melancholy.
@@blurjose yea! I need to get more Jason in my collection. I only. have a few of his works.
