Jody, thanks for letting me interview you man, and thanks for what you're doing in serving the next generation Airmen! Hope to meet you in person in the future!
Man @@Jodywithawhy I have been trying to get into the Air Force since September. It’s been very discouraging and disheartening but I’ve been pushing through everything so far. I have my recruiter in Austin but I live in San Antonio. I just have to ask for my job I need a security clearance and I did all the paperwork but I made a bad decision when I was younger (im 25 now). It happens to do with my credit but my recruiter says I can’t be over $15k I believe. I got the thing taken care of with a settlement of $10k in December and made my first payment this January. I have to ask if this is true that I have to be under $15k? Second, I have never really had to look at my credit report so when he says $15k how do y’all calculate that so I know I’m ok to send?
Your credit check will be based off any outstanding debt, collections, charge offs, bankruptcy and a debt to income ratio higher than 40% (based off of your expected military pay compared to your debt). If any of these flag, you’ll be required to have a financial waiver. At that moment, you most likely won’t be qualified for any jobs that require a higher clearance unless the situation has been settled and can be proven it’s settled.

Good info for the newbies. I entered the AF in 1975. I scored 95 in electronics and mechanics. I had a guaranteed job (Analog Flight Simulator Specialist). However, my job choice was not available at the time so the recruiter put me in the Delayed Enlistment Program for 3 months. i talked to a recruiter around 2 years ago. I feel so bad because I haven't made weight yet, I let myself go heavy for a while. Now I'm working my way back down. I'm currently at 270-265, gotta be 225. It's not about me wanting to go, I need to go. I'm 20 years old and feel like my life will go south if I keep living the way I'm living
Have you watched any UA-cam videos of people's weight loss journeys? I find that UA-cam can be really inspiring. Or start video taping yourself to hold yourself accountable. Who knows, you could be inspiration for other people too! Good luck

That question on how to fix it "the recruiting problem ", I'm not sure if this is being done but I would say we need to address how the military is being promoted. This generation nowadays is not motivated to fight in war so I would say appeal to us with the benefits. Start at the high school level. I wish I new about the benefits of joining when I was in high school because now I'm in a situation where I have been out of high school for 10 yrs and I want to join because of the benefits but it would be a step backwards or slowing me down in regards to propelling my life forward in my relationship, education, and career that I'm already in. Like I really regret not knowing about these benefit straight out of high school
Talk to your Rep and Board of Education. Recruiters would LOVE to talk to every student of EVERY school but you would be amazed at the level of resistance to which these schools go to block recruiters. It's literally up to these kids to do their research for their life
That’s the catch though because at 18 many can’t visualize retiring by 50 and what life would look like. Many 18-year-olds don’t even know what lifestyle they wanna live. I certainly wish I knew more about the Reserves. I tried the more formal college route because I wanted to cheer collegiately. Little did I know I could’ve had the best of both worlds.
I love your videos Jody! I’m highly considering joining, just determining if active or officer is best for me and my family. I’m a single mother and making sure I know all the information before talking to a recruiter to not waste anyone’s time.
It really depends on your goals. Both paths are good, but the enlisted is more technical and hands on, while the officer side is more leadership like roles. It’s a slower process to joining however because of everything required to qualify. Enlisted you can expect 3-6 months from start to joining, while officers can expect 12-18 months. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Hey Jody, I'm a new Subscriber For over 2 weeks now I've been thinking of Joining the Air Force, and I've watched all you videos and others too as a part of my research. I'm not joining as a last resort as u mentioned in one of your videos of why you shouldn't join the Air Force. I'm joining to make a name for myself, not because its going to make my parent proud or anything like that but because I'm 21 and I still haven't seen myself at a place I want to be. Ever since I was a little kid (around 12) I've always being fascinated of an air craft and sometimes fantasize/dream about flying one or building one, but as time past society and the opinions of people will pin you down and my dream faded away. And so, now I'm going to school for filmmaking and Art (Illustration/painting), but I don't know where that fits in the economical status of society. The main thing I want to do is make a name for myself, but now I see my life crashing down, I don't know if I've made the right choices in my life and yes I'm 21 and I still have time to make good and bad choices. I'm dumb as a rock in Mathematics and that's why I chose Art in College, I've ordered the ASVAB Kaplan book and I don't want to fail the ASVAB. My GOAL is to get a high score and I don't know why I need you to motivate me but I do, please tell me I can do it, tell me that its not the end of the world even though it seems like it. Tell me I can make it to the air force with the right amount time of studying.
Aye bro. You honestly can do whatever you put your mind to. If art is important to you, and you’re already in college, that may be a good path for you. If you’re not fulfilled, than maybe the Air Force. The biggest thing is to find out what is most important to you. Who do you wanna be, what kind of legacy do you want to leave behind, what kind of impact do you want to make?? Those are the questions you should be asking, to help get to the next chapter of your life. Then choose whatever path you think will help you answer those questions the best. If it’s the Air Force, you’ll do everything you need to and make it happen. If it’s something else, same rules apply. But first, ask yourself those hard questions. That’ll be where you start. I hope that helps and good luck. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Hey bro, nothing is impossible the moment it becomes important to us. Dreams fade not because of the opinions n statuses but because we forget what we dreamt and why? Nothing should change your dream except a better dream, some dreams out here may sound like fairy tales but we still dream...I wish you well bro. Make the right choice while still young.
Man, I really want Active Duty in the Air Force. Honorable discharged from the US Marine Corps, but got out in 2011, can I join with a 13 year break in service? Please!!!
I am quite confused. Ive been googling and found out about EDPT and CT. If i made a good score on ASVAB do i still have to take them inorder to get in Cyber jobs? Some sources say that some cyber jobs in order to get into that job is to either made like 55+ on electrical or 52 electrical and CT. Is ASVAB alone not enough? Question for Airforce cyber jobs: Cyber Systems Operations (3D0X2), Cyber Security (3D0X3), Client Systems (3D1X1), Cyber Transport Systems (3D1X2). When do we take the EDPT or CT? Is it during meps? Is there a study guide?
A waiver basically says I am not qualified and then you have to tell the USAF why they should accept you....saw this a lot when I put together commissioning packages for enlisted applying for officer programs.
Question. 20 year old son going to see a recruiter soon. Have a daughter in the Navy. She said she only wants brother to join AirForce. Not sure her logic. How will the fact that he has been prescribed antidepressants in the past, effect his journey? It has probably been more than a year. It was more of me recommending him to get them and then him basically not taking them.
Hey Jody, I'm trying to re-enlist as prior service but from other branch. You got any information on what the Air Force is looking to fill in at this time? Any insights would he much appreciated. Your channel is 🔥 as always!
..Hi Sir Jody! Where was your recruitment station before? I might want to go there and talk to the recruiters. Kidding aside, I am already in touch with one of the recruiter here in North VA. Haven’t met in person yet, only through email. I just turned 38 yrs old, do you think it is still possible for me to pass the BMT in my age? Thanks for your videos, helps a lot. God bless you more and always.
Hey Jody, great videos! I was wondering if you can make a video about prior service from another branch joining the Air Force? I am transitioning from Active Duty and was curious about the process for going into the Air Force reserves. I have heard it is very different from the process for non-priors/ priors that got out some time ago (i.e. contract lengths, skipping basic training, selecting a MOS, choosing a duty station, etc). Air Force information always seems so hard to find compared to the other branches! Thanks in advance!
Hey Jody I appreciate your content and for your service. I'm a 33 y/o male with a squaeky clean record, physically fit, and ready to take my potential to the next level and be apart of something bigger than myself. Thing is, I have a fish allergy. I am not allergic to shellfish, only whitefish. Not asking for a definitive answer, but would love your insight. Seeing that the AF recruiting numbers are a bit off target, what do you think the chances of me getting in with said allergy are?
Food allergies are weird. I’ve seen them get approved pretty easily l, and I’ve seen the doctors not budge. What I’ve learned is the more severe the reaction, the less likely people are to get qualified. The only way to truly know is to try. I hope that helps and good luck on the process. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Hi Jody. My granddaughter took the ASVAB on March 24th, 2022. She got a 77 on AFQT. She is 17 years old. She will be 18 on August 27th, 2023. She will not talk to a recruiter until she turns 18. Her mother will not take her now because her mother does not agree with her choice. Her ASVAB score expires on March 24th, 2024. Therefore, what is the MEPS process for someone who has already taken the ASVAB. Will she be able to enlist before her AFQT expires? I don't want her to lose the benefits of this good score. Your insight is appreciated.
If she goes to MEPS before march she’ll be able to use that score. If she waits, she’ll have to retake the test when the time comes. I would recommend her explain to her mother how waiting can be detrimental to her job opportunities later if she were to get a lower score.
Great conversation guys; I appreciate the details and all the wealth of knowledge that you have and are willing to share with us! For Jody, my man your videos have been an incredible resource for me as I have just begun the enlistment process! I am super nervous about my medical history as I have had a minor breathing problem(not asthma), allergies, and eczema when I was younger; however, those issues do not affect me anymore. Could these things still prevent me from getting in?
It’s always possible prior medical conditions can disqualify you. It will really depend on the medical records and severity of the condition. Also if you can get a doctor to say all of those medical conditions are no longer present, that will help a ton as well. I hope that helps and good luck on the process. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@@Jodywithawhy After 5 months of running around grabbing documents, from various doctors, taking tests, going to MEPS for the ASVAB (scored an 83 overall, 93 in Mechanical) I am still awaiting a final answer if I can join or not. The whole process has been incredibly frustrating. Whenever I obtain some piece of information that the medical staff wants, I send it to them, only to wait a couple weeks and have them tell me they need something else. It's not looking great right now, as the last I heard the CMO wanted me to take a pulmonary breathing test (which I already took and easily passed a few months ago). They wanted every piece of info about the test results and even after seeing that I passed it, they still want me to do it again, this time at the MEPS. I haven't heard from anyone in the Air Force for three weeks, because my recruiter was transferred to another base. He told me another recruiter would be contacting me soon, but that was over three weeks ago. I have tried calling the recruiting office, but nobody answers. I this point I feel like they just gave up on me. Not sure what I can do
24:05 Bro, I think I know who you're talking about. I think she has the capacity to be kind but she has to be tough for the sake of the job but yeah. I saw a lady chew people out. Not sure if it's the same lady but yeah. Tearing into people. So definitely be serious there and follow instructions.
I know im late but my story is kinda like yours, im 16 right now but im turning 17 soon and i wanna join the Air Force really soon im doing all my research on here about it BUT the only thing stopping me is my past with the law i already watch the video you did about it but i dont know how to handle it. I really want to be in Air Force so bad its been my dream since i did JROTC. if anything helps lmkkk pleaseee
Fantastic video! Thank you both so much for the time and effort put in, it really is appreciated. Could you answer the following if possible please? I've obtained my green card with no restrictions and plan on joining once I obtain my US drivers license for more job opportunities. I have no health issues and no background needing assistance in regards to depression, anxiety or anything in that nature. My question is - how does genesis work for permanent residents who have no history in the US for health related issues? - I do plan on bringing my doctors notes with me from my home country but just wondering how this works for LPR's. Thanks!
I don’t believe Genesis would have any connection to foreign records, so your best bet is to gather all of your records yourself. Good luck on the process and thanks for the support. 🙌🏽
Jody, I know this is a late comment but I have been stressing out regarding a medical history I have. I was diagnosed with complex partial seizures in May 2011, and I have since been off medication/seizure free for over 10 years. Do you happen to know the likely hood of getting a waiver? A response would be Greatly appreciated.
I honestly don’t. It’s going to come down to what your medical records say, and what kind of medications you take. I did make a medical video of how to have the best chances getting a medical waiver approved. If you haven’t seen it already here’s a link. ua-cam.com/video/ynKjsxegEPE/v-deo.html
Can I join with a conditional green card? I heard recruitment is down, I have a degree and I’m very interested in joining. Can this be waived by any chance ?
I plan on joining the airforce in march my question is should I get the 2022-2023 asvab practice test guide now or wait until the 2023-2024 one comes out?
Hey Jody, my husband is trying to get into the Air Force and I know they pull medical records now but I was wondering what does he need to do to prove he doesn’t have asthma. He was prescribed inhalers a couple times since 2018 do to sickness. He also had hydrocodone a couple times in his life because of breaking his hand a couple times. What would he need to do to show it’s not on going?
It will depend on the severity of the condition. The only true way to know is by going through the process. I would say it won’t be easy however. I hope that helps.
@@Jodywithawhy appreciate you taking the time to reply. Actually it gave me the push to go see my recruiter yesterday and he advised the same. We won’t know for sure until I’m seen at MEPS but I’m relieved and encouraged it wasn’t an outright no. Thank you!
This is awesome. I’m so glad you overcame your fear and just asked the question. I’m even more excited you qualified and swore in. Thanks for the update, and I’m wishing you good luck on the rest of your journey. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I’m in sandiego area looking to join within the year, the only problem is that I don’t have a high school diploma I’m working on my ged and should be done in 3-4 months my question is should I start talking to a recruiter now or wait till I’m done with my ged? Thanks Jody love the vids you’ve helped me so much with this decision of change in my life
I would recommend reaching and take a practice asvab test to see where you are. If you have a GED you’ll need to score over a 50 to join, so that practice test will let you know if you’re on track.
What’s up y’all! I need a little bit of help understanding something. I graduated high school early (last week actually) to join the Air Force. I go to complete the second day of meps on Tuesday (already verified the PiCat a few weeks ago). But for some reason my recruiter hasn’t put me in “the system” as a high school graduate yet. He said that he could take an email anytime saying I graduated and that would work but he just wants to wait until after MEPS. He knows that I want to ship pretty quickly so why would he go through the extra steps? If someone could clear that up I would appreciate it. Also I got a score of 90 on the PiCat. Does the system still just randomly match me to whatever jobs I put down or is there any bias to people with higher scores? Thanks!
It’s probably cause he already requested your MEPS date with the previous information. If he were to change it now, he would have to submit new paperwork, and probably doesn’t want to go through the hassle. That’s what I would think. I could be wrong.
Hey what’s up Jody…quick important question…will I need give up my foreign citizenship from where I was born In order to join US Air Force. I am not looking into any special Secret job and yes I am permeant residential green card holder.
It may be. It will all depend on your medical records, and how the Air Force doctors determine your qualifications. The only way to truly know is to try. I hope that helps.
Yo bro I hope you see my comment man! I love your channel! I was hoping you could do a video about enlisting with a degree. Thanks Jody! Keep it up bro I hope you get a gold UA-cam plaque !
Unfortunately the Air Force can’t help you with the process of obtaining a green card. They can help you get expedite citizenship if you join with a green card though.
Sir: I have existing student loans and the Air Force Student Loan Repayment Program offered to attorneys. My primary goal is to serve my country and clear my law school student loan debt. However, I have been told that I am beyond the maximum age for enlistment and OTS. I remember your video"How My Most Disqualified Recruit EVER Got An Air Force Waiver." Any suggestions? Thank You, Victor Torres
You can join up to your 40th bday. If you’re older than that, the only way you’ll get an age waiver is for health profession career which require a health profession degree and experience.
One question Jody, I passed the asvab with a 50, I needed a 50 because I have a GED. What if I try to take it again to get a higher score but i score lower? do I keep my original score, a 50? Or do I keep the lower score and more recent score?
You’ll have to take the most recent asvab. Please, please , please don’t risk it. Just keep the 50, that’s a great score. “A bird in the hand, is worth two in bush.” That’s some old school game. Lol
@@Jodywithawhy thank you I just wanted to double check with you , my recruiter told me to keep the 50 as well. Thank you so much. I hope to be in BMT soon. I been doing a lot of push-ups and leg raises and alot of stretching. I want to be fit and ready for BMT. God bless you Jody
@@Jodywithawhy makes sense. You was holding back no punches in the vid lol. Was honestly entertaining because when you roast people you do it in a comedic way. But yeah, I can get why you took it down. Very admirable
You can join, but you’d need a green card or us citizenship. If you don’t have a us citizenship, you wouldn’t be allowed to work in cyber careers until you obtained citizenship.
17:17 and the dod wonders why they have a hard time recruiting LOL. Recruiters used to be better and the standards used to be lower. The military was for normal people. When my brother was going in 10 yrs ago, he was in the dirt and his recruiter bent over backwards to get him in. Now? Recruiters won’t look your way unless you were raised a spoon fed life with zero challenges in your upbringing.
So, recruiters aren't going to work til 8pm at night for shithead kids anymore. Good. It's the constant person who blames everyone else for their own lowly performance in life that never improves themselves, it's everyone else. Sounds like people need to take their life decisions more seriously and parents need to get more involved. Your military recruiter is not Jesus, he or she is not your miracle. They're a hiring manager. Be on time and be prepared for your interview. This is the military you're joining, time to put on big boy pants and be serious. You're joining the military and their standards are high.

i talked to a recruiter around 2 years ago.

Good luck
Thank God my son had a good hard working recruiter who had you as his instructor I'd talked AF to my son since he was 14. He's now an Airman..
So proud of him, and glad I could help you two along the way. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Needed a video like this. Amazing work!! Keep killing the game🔥💯thank you for everything you do. Starting my entrance process with my recruiter this week🤞🏽🤞🏽hopefully all goes well and smooth
Jody you have helped me with my Air Force journey so far I'm going to MEPS next week Thank you for all of you're information!
Ni problem. I’m glad I could help and good luck. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Can't wait to join the Air Force. I hope they waive my medical issue.
Hugs praying for you.
Jody I got booked a job I appreciate everything honesty
I plan on going next week. I hope my recruiter is like your recruiter and you. 🙂
It's literally up to these kids to do their research for their life
Facts. I would not have gone to college if I knew how good of a deal going into the AF straight out of high school.
Good luck.
@@Jodywithawhy it does thank you. Good to know a key difference between them
Hey Jody, I'm a new Subscriber
For over 2 weeks now I've been thinking of Joining the Air Force, and I've watched all you videos and others too as a part of my research.
@@Jodywithawhy it helped a lot. I’m on my way to the recruiting office right now. Thank you.

thank you for asking/answering so many questions that i didn’t know how to ask. this clears up a lot
Love you 2, easily the best resources you can find when it comes learning about the air force
Man, I really want Active Duty in the Air Force. Honorable discharged from the US Marine Corps, but got out in 2011, can I join with a 13 year break in service? Please!!!
I'm in the same boat as this 😅, was in the Army tho. We need answers, hoping we get some answers.
What a great video!!
I hope to join the Air Force in a year or so. I'll be finished getting my degree by then.
I’m just now coming to terms with being patient in this process.
I am 9 classes away from completing my bachelor's degree. Is it smarter to start applying now or should I wait until I get my bachelor's?
Is there a recruiter in or near San Antonio that you’d personally recommend for the Air Force ?

Currently in DEP, I ship out August 1st!
Hey Jody, have you ever signed someone up with a lower back pain.? How hard is it to get a waiver for it?
@@Jodywithawhy Awesome! Thanks for your time.
It wouldn’t be waived. It would have to be the 10 year green card.
I plan on joining the airforce in march my question is should I get the 2022-2023 asvab practice test guide now or wait until the 2023-2024 one comes out?
The 2022-23 will be fine.
Hello Sir,
I was wondering what recruiter you'd recommend for the San Antonio area (if not yourself). Thank you :)
What would he need to do to show it’s not on going?
sorry but he has no chance, that im sorry is a big disqualifier... ):
Any update ?
I've been scared to ask this but would having cataracts disqualify me from joining?
It will depend on the severity of the condition. The only true way to know is by going through the process. I would say it won’t be easy however. I hope that helps.
@@Jodywithawhy appreciate you taking the time to reply. Actually it gave me the push to go see my recruiter yesterday and he advised the same. We won’t know for sure until I’m seen at MEPS but I’m relieved and encouraged it wasn’t an outright no. Thank you!
Just wanted to update to let you know I passed my MEPS and have officially sworn in! 😊

What is the aptitude area for Cyber operations? How about Intelligence?
Aye Jody is there any unspoken advantages to being extreme healthy?
I have dates from BMT and tech school. Can I change my AFSC before or is it too late?
Do you have to get all the shots at BMT?
Everybody goes to san antonio for basic?
I’m in sandiego area looking to join within the year, the only problem is that I don’t have a high school diploma I’m working on my ged and should be done in 3-4 months my question is should I start talking to a recruiter now or wait till I’m done with my ged? Thanks Jody love the vids you’ve helped me so much with this decision of change in my life
I would recommend reaching and take a practice asvab test to see where you are. If you have a GED you’ll need to score over a 50 to join, so that practice test will let you know if you’re on track.
@@Jodywithawhy thanks Jody!
What if I have my Driving permit can’t I focus on just joining now and work on my license after I leave tech school?
You can go to basic with it, however you won’t qualify for any jobs which require a driving license.
Very interested rn. 26, married, with a son. Trying to figure out if this is the right path for me. Thanks for the video.
No prob. I have a bunch of videos, hopefully they help you with your decision. 🤙🏽
Hey what’s up Jody…quick important question…will I need give up my foreign citizenship from where I was born In order to join US Air Force. I am not looking into any special
Secret job and yes I am permeant residential green card holder.
You wouldn’t. You can keep it.
So, is ADHD a disqualified situation? Or do they have a waiver for that?
Hey Brother I’m really looking forward to join the Air Force but my Eardrums are perforated, is that going to be an issue ?
It may be. It will all depend on your medical records, and how the Air Force doctors determine your qualifications. The only way to truly know is to try. I hope that helps.
Bro, sorry, but i can't find ur new reaction video of the Navy ?
I have a question… does a reservist needs to go to tech school?
How is basic training schedule? Do it depend on the state?
It depends on your job and it’s date for shipping to basic.
Leaving the 21st of February

No. They only start receiving pay when they go to basic training.

First thing mhs genesis needs to be unlocked first
Sir:
I have existing student loans and the Air Force Student Loan Repayment Program offered to attorneys.

Lol

Dude I'm in the army and you hype up joining the air force so much it makes me feel bad
Man you’re good. I’m just spreading awareness for my branch. But they’re all a good opportunity in my book.
