Board: E-White 7V
Board insulation: No PCB foam, no case foam, no tape mod, no PE foam.
Plate: None, build is plateless with gaskets only on top case as designed.
Keycaps: GMK Striker
Switches: 205g0 lubed banana splits with 0.15mm TX film
Stabilizers: Durock v2 stabilizers lubed with 205g0 on housings and XHT-BDZ on wire. Spacebar is holee modded with 205
Mat: King of LA Deskmat from Bolsa Supply
Alright, I was wrong about the 7v. I don't hate it. I just hate it with a plate. For some reason it sounds hollow in that config whether it be an aluminum plate or a polycarbonate plate.
The 7v plateless with the banana splits sounds as creamy as plateless builds can get. It's a bit quieter than it is with a plate but that is expected with the plateless.
I personally don't want to do the PE Foam mod because I want this board to sound like a 7v, not a Jelly Epoch.
Another recommendation was to use gaskets on the bottom case as well to make it sound fuller with a plate.
I don't like the idea of the TEMPE5T mod because it feels cheap to me, but it sounds good if you wanna take that route. Link here: • The tape mod
I would rather keep the 7V as is and use it plateless. But if you want to use a heavy tactile and use it with an aluminum plate, you're likely going to need to do one of these mods. I like the idea of the gasket top/bottom over all the options available.

Plateless is definitely the way to go with this one, it sounds great ! Also I love the new format !
Also I feel like the Tempest mod is good on cheaper boards but when it comes to high end it kind of mute the sound of the case and imo that's not what you want on a 500+ board. I've tried on my tofu and it definitely make it sound way better(I like to try new mods on that board bc it's cheap and it's difficult to make it sound worse).
@@PoguliPogalu I definitely agree man. There's a time and place for these mods and it's always a case by case.
@@AndyVNguyen lol case by case
I'm glad you went plateless too! I honestly was on the fence even with Gok's encouragement, but I'm very satisfied with my 7V
I've been busy with stuff man but I'm loving the new format!
hacker
really really really enjoying this new format. i like the descriptions of course, but hearing you say what u think just feels right.
plus i think this is concise enough so that it doesn’t feel like ur milking youtube watch time but also it’s long enough to keep me engaged!
Yessir striker on white strikes again
I C WHAT U DID THERE
I was so right about the 7V being better plateless, I'm glad you have different opinions about it now.
Sounds nutty, love the reviews at the end,
Well, this will most probably raise the aftermarket prices on the 7V. Thanks, Andy. As if it wasn't expensive enough.
To be fair I trashed it in the first two sound tests lol
That gmk striker hits different with that board!
Striker doesn’t really miss tho does it
Hey Andy, would you say this is the best keeb you can buy plateless reagardless of the price? Are Glacier80, Thera v1 and v2, Arc60 etc. not as good?
if i’m being honest, this is the golden standard of plateless keyboards. i’ve owned and typed on boards worth 4x 5x as much and none of those came close in terms of plateless. if you know plateless is what you want and you’re ok with the few cons that plateless has there’s not a better plateless board you can buy than the 7v. 🙂
@@noanimal Thank you)
Plateless is what gok prefers too! Glad it turned out well for you
it's like a night and day difference. so weird.
That thing sounding so clean
2:08 went gamer mode LOL his whole body tensed up
This sounds much better
But can't agree on hollowness factor - it is preference. Of course it shouldn't be drum but it can have some "good" hollowness
Andy desc r the best
no ur the best
plateless 7V is pure cream
That space bar sound 💦
SOO CREAMY love it
Wow this is very nice.
My banana split coming in this month, can't wait!
When you say tape mod feels cheap does it make the board feel cheap or sound cheap? I kinda wanna do it on my kbd67lite
makes the board look cheap (since 7v is expensive)
i'd try it on the kbd67 lite tho
@@AndyVNguyen ah I see. Imma do it on kbd67lite tho, might surprise me.
I got it in plateless with hyperglides. Clack city. Love the sound so much
Sounds great
Plateless so nice.
Striker on e-white 👌
Jelly Epoch Sounds and feel better in my opinion.. Happy with it
I’d say they sound different. I prefer the Jelly as well but the 7v has a nice clack, nothing amazing ofc but it’s nice. Jelly definitely does have a better feel though.
@@keagan5379 well said
Hey Andy, where would I buy non static PE foam?
what durock pom plateless sound test are you referring to?
hey mate, i have bought a 7v on the second hand market and i have bought some c3 Tangies and i was wondering will it sound similar to your build here if i built mine plateless?
c3 tangies and banana splits are different switches and sound different
How close would you say this sound test sounds compared to real life? Cuz I'm really having a hard time deciding between the banana splits and durock pom.
Very close to real life. Most of my clients of people who have built configurations that match mine have told me they get very close results
Can you explain more about applying the gaskets to bottom as well?
the board is designed with gaskets on top case only. someone mentioned that for theirs they put it on the bottom case too.
Yeah this sounds sweeeet
Are you gonna look into getting a Thera75? It's a hopefully upcoming GB for a plateless 75%.
pretty sure he got sent a proto
@@lostasian437 Awesome, he's one of the reviewers that I really wanted to get this board.
question
do you like the gmk striker set?
Answer
Yes
@@AndyVNguyen nice, just bought them and am waiting for them to come, wanted to know if they're any good
'good' is subjective since it's literally just color and design
i think keyboard market is tanking because of the amount of keyboard options
How thick is the pcb?
Can you do a video on how to properly lube stabs :(
i have a stab lubing video but the methods i have are a little updated. i'll keep in mind!
@@AndyVNguyen appreciate you’re response!
You mentioned that the keyboard market is tanking. I feel its to do with the delays and lead time of GMKs and the community is increasingly frustrated. Hard to buy when the ideal keycaps takes forever to come.
Aftermarket keycaps are still high, it's mostly the keyboards that are tanking
I like my jelly epoch ❤️
so which pe foam that we can use in a keyboard? the antistatic one thats colored black or the white one?
go for black anti static
@@mikeybroe1 isn't the black anti static one conductive? shouldn't that be the one which short the board?
@@albioncia u just contradicted urself with that phrase “anti static conductive”. i’m no electrical engineer but the black one is the one that won’t short or fry ur board and the white one will
It's okay we all make mistakes :)
Everybody has those days (Hannah Montana reference)
Was someone shouting in the background? lol
yes. there were people in the pool lol.
@@AndyVNguyen ahh fun time lmao
I honestly still don't think you're wrong
Yeah still too expensive like I mention
@@AndyVNguyen still love your videos! btw its my birthday!
very creamy
Cream over 9000
Ya know what imma keep an open mind and buy some machos see if I like the switches.
.
Keeb sounds nice but Andy breathing is v thocky
When you build plateless, would you leave out the included foam that’s typically sandwiched in between the pcb and plate?
Usually yea
he said the b word...
banana splits..
Nani?!?
I tried taping my gk68xs to see how it went - sound was amazing, but I used a masking tape that was slightly conductive lmao.
Bought some 3M electrician's tape and gona try it again, see if I cant reduce some of this case ping, already got some neoprene in the bottom, hope this helps. Got this as a budget first board, upgrading eventually, but want to mod it till it's really good.
that's definitely a board i'd run the mod on !
@@AndyVNguyen Yeah I also bought some PU foam tape to use as gaskets, instead of the loose bits of neoprene I'm using at the moment. It's getting to the point where I maybe should have just bought a better board LOL
so marbley
it's pretty good yeah..
let me buy that.
it's gonezoo already
tasty
Are you on your honeymoon or not? Wtf Andy
Lol I haven’t gotten married yet
creaaaammyyyy
s
still a mid sounding board and is hell expensive. this board is litterally gucci, it looks nice but only for the flex because the sound is just alright
yeah still expensive as hell but it hits the spot for some people
