I'm no where near a good mixer , but I definitely always eq , de-esser , and compress before adding any effects , soundgoodizer is great but you need to turn it down to about 15% otherwise it's too harsh.

I know this video is a few years old and youve probably done a tut on this but... record a second take rapping over your vocals, put almost the same mix on that take but with a high pass on it (not too much) then open up stereo enhancer and go the preset "for strings" and turn the volume on the mixer channels slightly lower than your main vocals. Now chop up certain parts, instead of running the whole thing. Bam.
also, put a limiter on your vocals and turn the threshold up until the bar is hitting the lowest point of your vocals (not the dead silence) and turn the gain all the way down. This will remove any hiss or background noise from the vocal take when you're not rapping. Or you could just use the cut tool in the playlist window and cut all the empty spaces out. Either way.
