    Im very quickly becoming a humbrol fan boy. After using the wearthing effects and Rust effects I have been telling all my model friends that they should only use those. lol

    note the inverted position of the "star" on the left wing.

    The aluminium one is just what I need for my US Korean War Sabre Jet! I love the bare metal look. Seeing old footage of shiny metal Cold War fighter jets on nicely aged 35mm film is what inspires me to build fighter jets of yesteryear.

    G'day Humbrol, Great products I'm going to buy some tomorrow. Your American customers, if they haven't already, will tell you that you've got the USAAF star roundel the wrong way round on the port wing (about 3:40 in the video). US modellers and, now, the USAF call this putting the star 'on its legs'. That is the roundel should be placed on the wing by rotating it, in this case, 90 degrees so that two points of the star seem to be 'sitting' towards the aft edge of the wing. You will notice what I mean because you have placed the star correctly on the fuselage. It has to be the same way on the wing too.The single point of the star has to always point up or forward on all aircraft. Cheers, BH (raafbloke)

    Once you’ve done the polished aluminium, is it advisable to then add a layer of enamel clear gloss spray? Will this damage it or enhance it?

    Can you mask Metalcote safely with Tamiya tape? I see something similar there, but I worry about it taking off the metal surface.

    How does the finish stand up to masking? The yellow stripe on the Mustang has probably been masked; what kind of masking tape is safe to use?

    Question! How do you go about polishing the primer? The same way you polish the metalcote? Do you have to sand first and then polish? Please let me know :)

    • @statoilbensin2190

      I think he is simply just sanding it in order for the metalcote to go on smoother.

    when you polish the paint after it has cured do you need to use a polish or just a soft cloth etc...?

    • @5springsadventure877
      @5springsadventure877 4 роки тому

      just a soft cloth. If you try to use any sort of "polish" you'll ruin the finish.

  • @gower1973

    How do you get the mirror shine, I tried some of this on a 1/48 Sabre and I`m struggling to get it to shine like in the video, Its shiny but not mirror shine, You didn`t say what grit sandpaper you used to polish the primer before the paint went on, I think that`s where I might of gone wrong because i just sprayed straight over the primer, you can see as soon as the paint goes on its shiny before even buffing, bit disappointed with this product, its not cheap either

    • @jamesfender6717
      @jamesfender6717 7 років тому +1

      You need to apply a black coat of paint, then use a good gloss coat. Finally use some of alclads chrome and you will get a reflective shine

    What's the difference between this "special" paint and normal metallic paints?
    Is there something in the paint? Or is it just regular silver paint that gets buffered?

    • @MrGggggggggggggjj

      +Alaskafish i think this one has lacquer so its somewhat equivalent to Alclad ii. you can only buff lacquer paints, you wont see a difference with enamel or acrylic

    Why do you still sell #11 silver? I dare say it`s obsolete by now.

    • @rurushu8094
      @rurushu8094 8 років тому

      mybluebelly
      Some people don't have the space, skill or tools required to use metalcote. And if metalcote is out of stock or unavailable in someone's area, a metallic paint may be their only option.

    • @mybluebelly
      @mybluebelly 8 років тому

      Crap. That #11 silver is utter crap.#191 is 11 times better. Even a silver magic marker is worth considering over the #11. Not everyone fathoms that there is anything better than #11 around, so they just stick to using it. My "retarded" friend is one such good example. It`s no good telling him to use anything else, Some people seems to enjoy living in the dark ages..

    • @mybluebelly
      @mybluebelly 8 років тому +1

      Oh no, i was merely referring to a friend of mine, not you me lord. What can i say, he is not too concerned about quality finishes and it saddens me to see that he still uses the #11. Did you know that you can actually achieve a really nice result with a silver marker?! The ones where you can hear the liquid silver paint shake about inside the pen. TRY IT !!! Aye, i am sure you`re every bit as special as you look. Cheers :)
