Andy Latimer thoroughly deserves this award and many more besides. His music has been with me throughout my life and I'm not ashamed to say that his beautiful lyrical playing of both the guitar and flute have often reduced me to tears.
A true giant and probably the most under-estimated guitarist of all time. I never understood why Gilmour was more infulential than Latimer. The amount of emotion Latimer put into his playing is surreal. Huge talent.
+Aris Alamanos To me, the larger question is why Pink Floyd seem more popular than Camel, but to me - they are both giants Two of my favorite bands of all time. Thank you Andrew.
Someone finally said it. Andy Latimer should have been as exposed as David Gilmore. Andy's guitar playing can never be replicated but inspire millions of people
I realised a 45 year ambition when I met Andy at the VIP guest event at the Royal Albert Hall show in Sept 2018. He's not only the best guitarist I've ever seen, but a really lovely, humble and funny human being. And the concert was nothing short of amazing. The DVD will be something truly special. No-one has ever deserved an award more than this.
Andy Latimer - progressive, emotive, humble, inspirational. And probably one of the truly great guitarists. One of those very special persons whose music can transport the listener through a roller coaster of emotions, leaving them in wonder at such artistry. Thanks Andy, lived with your music all my life (in my 70's now), never equaled, never bettered.
I've just read every single comment and I'm moved by all the love people from all the world feel for this kind man :) I'm one of them obviously, love you Andy, keep rocking the world!
Yes. Same here. I've always admired him both as a person and musician. Unfortunately not many people are familiar with his work. It seriously brings tears of joy to my eyes to see the out pouring of love and admiration for the great Mr. Andrew Latimer.
I don't understand why people keep saying that Andy Latimer is or was underrated, as he certainly was nothing of the kind where I came from. It was a toss up between Gilmour or Larimer, and most that I associated with gave it the the later by a short head, including myself. Both brought tears to my eyes, but Andy even more so. Camel were the most outstanding in their field as far as I was concerned, and always will be. Pure magic to the ears of every true Englishman.
Could not have been awarded to a nicer person. I have been a Camel fan from the very first album and Andrew Latimer must be the most emotional guitarist I have ever heard. Met him a few times and he thinks the world of the Camel fans. Great guy, well deserved.
Back in the mid '70's I was expecting to see Camel, in my hometown of Davenport, Iowa USA, open for Wishbone Ash. As luck would have it, it didn't happen. The rumors were that Wishbone were gun-shy after being blown off the stage by Camel on a few earlier dates. I'll never know the real truth to that story, as when I asked Martin Turner (at one of his recent MTWA dates) about the pairing, he conveniently had a memory lapse and didn't know who Camel were. So it took me 20 plus years before I could catch Andy in 1997 at the Great American Music Hall on March 9th and the Edge in Palo Alto on March 10th. I ventured half way across the states to catch both shows. On the 10th I went over to Palo Alto early to see the city and casually walked into the Edge as Camel were doing their sound check. After the sound check, I introduced myself to Andy and told him I'd come from Iowa to catch both shows. Andy kindly asked if I wanted to take a walk and we went to a small shop so Andy could grab a sandwich. He invited me back to the Edge and he ate his sandwich as we talked about a number of things (even my occupation as a fire fighter). After he ate, Andy changed his strings and like an awestruck kid I asked Andy if I could have the strings from the previous night. He kindly obliged. After that my wife and I returned to San Francisco for the Rajaz tour and were able to speak with both Andy and Susan after one of the shows. Then off to the Prog Fest in Trenton a few years later with my entire family (4 daughters included). Most recently, Amsterdam and Eindhoven on this last tour. Every time after the first meeting, Andy remembered me by first name. This man is not only one of the most melodic and tasteful guitarists ever to play any style of music, he is also the most genuine, sincere and kind man I've ever met.
Hi Kirk, Thanks for the great story. You have been very fortunate to get to speak with Martin Turner, Andy Powell and Andy Latimer. All great guys! I did get to speak to Andy Powell very briefly, right after they did a gig at a very small venue in Ft. Wayne Indiana last year. I told him that I had seen him and WA back in 1978 at the Hammersmith Odeon (London). he just smiled and said "those days were a lot of fun!". As for Came, I have seen them too, back in the 70's. They played at the Malvern Winter Gardens (England) on August 25, 1975 (I kept the ticket stub). This was a fantastic concert and I paid exactly 1 British Pound for the ticket!! I did get them to autograph a poster though. Great to see this video of Andy Latimer being awarded this Lifetime Achievement Award.
Indeed he deserved it. I would say from his beginnings, but he finally got it. Cheers to the best and most sensitive guitar player ever to step on this world. Andy, rock on. And keep the prog spirit alive.
An amazing guitarist, and from what I can tell, a wonderful human being. He signed my cheap-o Yamaha acoustic guitar at NEARfest years ago and it's a prized possession for me as a result.
I got to know about this award and event just because of the great name of this amazing musician and human being! Sometimes the awards are honored to be presented, and this is one of those for sure. Thanks to Prog Rock Award!
I did have the good fortune of seeing Camel open for Wishbone Ash in Houston, TX in the 70's and it remains one of the best concert memories I have. Both bands were absolutely brilliant playing live music the way it is meant to be. I also got the chance to see Camel in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall back in 2000 or '01 and it was another magical experience. Summer Lightning has been my favorite song since the first time I heard it over 35 years ago. (Ice takes an extremely close second!) I'm a huge fan of David Gilmour as well and I agree that Andy certainly deserves more attention than he has received through the years. I'm happy that he has been able to keep it together, gotten his health issues taken care of, and I hope to see the band again in the not too distant future. They (and he) have been and always will be my favorite artist.
Andy thank you for all your amazing Camel albums, your guitar playing is beautifully brilliant. Also your flute playing is great . You totally deserve this award.
I only got to see camel live in concert, in Palo Alto,Ca.at the keystone once.I also had an extra ticket, and none of my friends wanted to go.All I can say,is they missed a excellent show. This was around 1995.It was one of the best live shows, I have ever seen.Andy,..kicked ass playing the flute & guitar that nite.😎
My introduction to Camel has been Summer Lightning which I loved. Then I went to see them in Paris hoping they would play it. They did not :-( But as they were touring to promote “I can see your house from here”, Andy played Ice and my life has never been the same again. I remember to this day being close to the stage and listening to Ice which I did not know and being unable to speak for 5 minutes when it ended. It remains to this day my favourite piece of music
Andrew Latimer .. superb guitarist, all around musician, poetic song writer, singer, and humanitarian. He's my favorite musician, and Camel my favorite band.
I love to state that Andy latimer is the perfect blend between Carlos Santana e Dave Gilmour. He possesses that beautiful touch of Mr Gilmour, the lyric side of both, and the fury of Mr Santana when he wants to burn the house. In my opinion Andy Latimer is one of the greatest guitar player of all times.
Ho 65 anni! E sono cresciuto con la prog! Posso dire con certezza, che Andy è tra i giganti della musica! Suono anch'io! E capisco quando un musicista suona col ❤️! Lunga vita Andy! T'ascoltero x sempre! Anche dopo di noi!👍🎸
Anuj Mayapuri- Mainly because the band were musicians who concentrated on making some of the best music the world will ever hear while keeping out of the scandal and typical Rock n Roll money making factory. Back in the 60’s and 70’s the music industry wanted rock stars who lived on the edge such as Sid Barrett, Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and the list goes on because these people made the industry lots of money. Camel did not have that label due to the fact Andrew Latimer did not lead that stereotype lifestyle. I personally think on a fans point of view with being underrated has given us years of more music and passion from one of the greatest bands ever to have played. The same goes to bands like Marillion and also Steven Wilson who are amazing and both also vastly underrated. These are the musicians that dig so much deeper into the human soul.
Well deserved honour for one of the most under rated guitar players of our time.
Andy Latimer thoroughly deserves this award and many more besides. His music has been with me throughout my life and I'm not ashamed to say that his beautiful lyrical playing of both the guitar and flute have often reduced me to tears.
Latimer and Gilmour for ever
Hackett
...Only One...Jimi Hendrix.
@@ElektroMessTechnik and ROTHERY....
...don't forget Blackmore.
A true giant and probably the most under-estimated guitarist of all time. I never understood why Gilmour was more infulential than Latimer. The amount of emotion Latimer put into his playing is surreal. Huge talent.

Great Giants. Poet of the progrock.long live Camel

No-one has ever deserved an award more than this.
I'd say he's the most underrated musician ever
I am in tears now!! He is the best guitar player I've ever seen!!! Well deserved Andy!!...and please return to Mexico!
metoo ... Looking fwd. to RAH in Sept. Tour 'Moonmadness'
No-one has ever deserved an award more. Here's to seeing the band live in 2015

Certainly my fav guitarist.....”ice” is the reason I started playing guitar, this award is very deserved.
latimer and lifeson are like the underratedest of history of underrated guitarrist

My favourite guitarist.
He's mine too. He has been since 1974 when he totally transported me to another dimension. Truly the best guitar work I have ever seen.
Best guitarist in the world - thoroughly deserves this award
What an absolute class act. Well deserved honor.

Kirk Koster Absolutely the nicest man in all rock as well as one of the greatest guitarists of all time (if not THE greatest!).
Hi Kirk,

Andy a truly great player
Such grace and lyrical quality to his playing; still sounds damn fantastic
Indeed he deserved it. I would say from his beginnings, but he finally got it. Cheers to the best and most sensitive guitar player ever to step on this world. Andy, rock on. And keep the prog spirit alive.

Well done Andy - you're the greatest musician on this planet!

Fantastic player, his style reminds me very much of Carlos Santana. The riffs & solos in Lady Fantasy are fantastic.
I love to state that Andy latimer is the perfect blend between Carlos Santana e Dave Gilmour. Genio de la música, muy poco reconocido.
What song he was playing in the video?
i don't get it, why is camel so under rated?
One of life's great mysteries my friend!
