Thanks. I love my Evo 1. The board went bad after 6 months but they repaired with a new board and I'm back up & running. I have sent it out on a mission and freaked out when video signal was lost so I was flying blind without any control or video. Waited a couple min for it to return but no? 15min later it returned with all video captured to card, I sent it out 2.5mil and it finished mission even though I lost video link and control of drone. I bought new draws.
Bought an 8K recently and love it!! During the day 8K video is near as good as the Pro. Images taken as well. We have a fleet of the E2P and E2 8K at work, and those replaced the Evo 1st gen we had. I bought my own after flying these, and I could not pass up the deal last week ($1046 US for Evo2 8K). Also bought batteries on discount code for $144 each. I'm set for a while now!! The E2 version is bigger, heavier than Evo 1, or M2P we use. Stability is fantastic, but yes, the bigger part is even in the worst areas we get up in the air in under 45 seconds. No messing around with NFZ, no slow GPS aquiring. My favorite camera drone thus far. I plan on buying the 6K camera for this soon too. Great video demo as well. I like that you test camera on the ground side by side.
Just got my evo2 6k .... it is unbelievable! Have the evo 1 which is great but 2 is wild. Still trying to get the crystal sky to dork on the 2 great stuff Steve
I have the EVO II 8K and I love it. I specifically chose it because of the ability to change the camera which should make that airframe last for much longer than a Mavic drone that is stuck with the camera that it came with.
I bought an autell evo2 8k drone a year ago. After the 4th time it was sent for repair, it never came back! In the 3rd month of writing emails, they finally give me my money back! I had problems with smart flying, my battery got stuck and could not be pulled out, recording in the wrong direction, while recording visible propellers, ect...
Autel got it right with bright colours for their drones to be able to spot it in the sky far away. Skydio however got the colour wrong, hard to spot when you have the same sky contrast color.
Another great video! I enjoyed the comparison and the compassion for people who don’t have the money to drop on a 1,500 dollar drone. However, you did a much better job than others explaining it to people who are new to the drone world or just getting into expensive drones. It’s soo cold! Lol. I love it.

Hi Captain, stopped by to say thank you for your reviews and videos. The Evo is an incredible drone and takes phenomenal videos and pictures. I recently had mine stolen, so a word of advice for everyone if you buy a drone of this price point. Get insurance! I lost mine in a smash and grab on my truck (along with $4,000 worth of other equipment) while I was out of town for a wedding. Insurance covered most but I still can't afford to get the drone back (after deductibles and all). Hopefully, I'll get another one next year :(
Very detailed comparison.. thanks for the attention towards the video... love your upbeat personality. Do you think you can do a comparison of the photo imagery difference between the 6 and 8K? I'm a photographer and very interested in the Evo Pros' photographic capabilities. Thanks
This is an excellent video! No way I would spend $1800 on a drone as a mere hobbyist, but if aerial videos ever became important for me, it is highly important to see what these drones can do. Thanks, Steve, for going large!

Looks like you finally got your snow Steve! Harharhar! The west is still green! Vancouver Island is where I am. Still beautiful but we feel for you in the nation’s Capital. My god those Autels are a wicked, the evo 2 is so nice and I can’t believe all of the sensors. I often dream of having such sweet kit.
Thank you very much for your clear and concise video. I was looking at buying one of these but couldn't decide whether the 6K or the 8K was a better fit for me. After watching your video I've decided the 6K is the better of the two for my purposes. Thank you so very much. Yes, I have a Mavic 2 Pro also, even with the No limit Drones mod on it to remove the No flight zones. But I saw another drone operator with one of these drones yesterday and it caught my attention. Thank you for your humorous style and all the work you put into making these videos enjoyable.
It seems the 8K video is a bit "choppy" compared to the 6K. Assuming that's so, is it in the processing, i.e. downsampling from 8K to 4K, or does it appear that way in the native video too?
Great video, I enjoyed the Evo video a few days ago too. I want to get one of these real badly but money is the cog in the wheel. I have an idea for a future video. I am curious about what drone can lift what weight or payload.
Curious to know whether you will be getting Autel's Smart Controller? Seems to be a significantly larger controller with a large screen albeit it is expensive.
Autel is having so many problems lately that the first generation smart controllers are being discontinued, and we now wait for the 2nd generation... if they show up at all.
the 6k just looks better to me, the 8k washes out a little like playing a PS5 game on a PS4, cant' beat that 1 inch sensor. Thanks for the comparison, ordering now.
Between the Autel 6K or the Mavic 2 Pro...which one would you recommend? The use will be for real estate videos and some filmmaking when needed. I have no previous experience with any drones at all. In doing some research I have read where the Autel's software has some issues and there seems to be more flyaways with them. Not something I want to see. However the images coming from them do seem better so that's where I am perplexed. Better images with less stability...or more stability with images that are good, just not great. Thanks for your thoughts and great video!
Watching on big 4k sony screen at 6.30 swapping between 6k a 8k in 8k some of the lead that runs up the front of your jacket disappears. Make me wonder if something naught is being done in processing on the 8k. I have ordered the pro 6k a few days ago
So it's obvious that the 6K version is the better one, just that 1 inch sensor is all what makes it worth choosing it over the 8K which does not do well in the dark.. See that's why I love my Mavic Mini so much, just a lil baby drone that flies so well and films like it's bigger brothers and sisters.. Sweet Keep well and be safe everyone!
Very interesting Steve and good comparison. I noticed that the 8k version video stuttered and was quite noticeable. Having been a DJI owner since the first Phantoms I’ve never really looked at a competitor but the 6k model is worth a looking at I believe. How do they fly compared to the Mavic or Phantom lines? I wasn’t overly impressed with the Fisher Price looking Transmitter and would like to use an iPad Mini, is their provisions for a tablet? I’m mainly a stills photographer but also do some videography and the lack of geofencing is a big plus. Be interested in your thoughts...
8k video at 24 FPS shoved into a Video timeline of 4K at 30 FPS will cause stutter (as you've noted). On your home computer (if you have a state of the art computer... it is super smooth and looks amazing). The EVO II drones fly different than the MAVIC drones. If you have been flying MAVICS all your life you will notice a difference and after a few flights you'll no longer notice a difference (i.e. you move the joysticks less). The transmitter is small but such a great item due to the display which can feed back the video signal and make the use of a phone/tablet not needed if in a hurry to film.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks Steve for your reply and it made total sense. I just made a short 4K video here in Alberta with my Mini 2 but UA-cam butchered it after it uploaded. How do you get 4K video to look so good on YT? I’m using premier pro and exporting as UA-cam 4K. Cheers👍🏻

Awesome video Steve. Hey Steve do you have any idea if there's another app we could use to fly the autel evo's ? Like the litchi app to the dji drones?
Yep love that color Steve! I am still flying the CSJ-X7 Pro 2 and saving for the Mavic 2 Pro but I also want the Evo 6K, Phantom 4 V2.0, Mavic Mini 2, Inspire 2, etc.....oh my!
The aperture control on the Pro is the difference. If you care about manipulating your images on the fly you need the Pro. If you are just taking footage, the Evo II is fine.
The 8K does look the best hands down to my eyes and stands out footage wise....sharper crisper more vibrant. Imagine 8K with 1” sensor. Can u slow down gimbal and movements like tripod mode for example with these Autel drones?
All i understood from the intro about people requesting drone reviews is that CD needs to review everything and more :) i quite like the diversity even if a long while back its probably the budget drone that brought me here
Thanks lol this is very good information hope they come up for sale ! Probably going to get my part 107 permit first.....learning there is allot more to drones than just drones.
So good to see this review. Even better to hear that you like the EVO. I remember a discussion you had about a year ago when you said with the impending inflation due to the pandemic that Autel might fold up their drone production. DJI is a fantastic drone. Autel Evo, Evo2 are also excellent platforms. I like them both. Having to pick only one, I'd go with the EVO2 8K. I simply could not discern a difference. I must say your comparisons are always informative, comprehensive and well produced. 👍 Thanks for your efforts!
Both drones work very well and produce a great image so you'd be happy with either. The reason I was saying Autel was doomed was due to not having an under 250 gram drone in their lineup. However, Autel survived in part due to the US Government placing a ban on DJI and the fact that DJI dropped the ball on launching the MAVIC 3. I'm pretty sure we are going to see an under 250 gram drone from them late this year or at CES next year.
Thank you Captain! As always - the overview is excellent! I will add on my own - I bought myself Autel Evo 2 Pro 6K and Mavic 2 Pro, this set of drones covers almost all tasks for aviation work. The Autel Evo 2 Pro is a great photogrammetry drone, as it has better image clarity compared to the Mavic 2 Pro. Mavic 2 Prois a great drone for aero filming. Full set! I look forward to the Mavic 3 Pro and put the money aside to buy it - I really hope it will be great! Good luck Captain!
Does the 6K sensor crop when shooting at 4K natively? (IOW are the extra pixels processed into improving the light gathering or are they tossed?) Thanks!
@@ivaneberle3972 No. 6K is processed in software. (according to the manufacturer's information - I can't give a link, I lost it, try it yourself) Good luck!
@@aircamdrone3727 It makes no sense that it would discard pixels... Worse light gathering at 4K capture than native 4K 1" sensor would result. (Shooting at 6K and downconverting to 4K would prove a time-consuming burden, so shooting at 4K in-camera is greatly preferable) Hoping someone can jump in this discussion with conclusive answer or link
Regardless the size of the sensor. Autel can record 8k cos it has enough pixels to do so. Your Canon has much larger sensor but less pixels, yet they are huge pixel so will do well in low light. Still cool review.
Last time I was in Prague minus 20 still managed to drink lager in a heated beer tent. Expecting snow here in Scotland any time soon, hopefully SG 906 pro 2 will arrive next week first drone for me.
Great vídeo Steve. The Autel Evo is my favorite drone. A year ago I ordered a V-CPTR from Zero Robotics. After 6 months asking for a refund, it just got it. We will not see that drone on the air but I will keep watching your great reviews.
The DJI SMART CONTROLLER is rather old in technology terms and not what I would consider new. It shows up now and then in my videos but I've never bothered to do a full review.
Good morning from a sunny Athens with 15c temperature. One small question to all the people who read this. How many people have a real TV 4K cost at least 1000 euros to see the difference of a 4K to 8K video? I love the marketing. Even, most of the movies they make for the cinema its in 2K, very few movies are in 4k. By the way i have a LG OLED 4K and only with my blue ray i see some movies in real 4K or when i take a video with my camera which is 4K SONY, drones can not approach this quality because of their censor and lens. By the way Steve you made me to go into the drone and FPV hobby and i thank you so much for this !!!!!!
Looking to get the EVO II Pro(6K) later. Any recommendations for a $150-250 beginner drone to start out with…. Something that has similar controls to prepare me for the Autel 6K??
I watch youtube on 40' TV but the highest resolution I can choose is 4K so sadly I can't compare the differences. Anyway they both are obviously great and I hope that some day (after several years) I will be able to buy it and fly it :)
I have been flying drones for years mostly DJI from a Mavic Pro to an Inspire 2 with the X4S camera and by far the EVO 2 Pro has given me the best footage that I have ever seen. Just curious what SD card are you using for your EVO 2 Pro when shooting 6K?
Captain Drone i really like the way you explain all in the evo 2. But please make a video show how you can used the voice comands of the evo 2 because nobody do it at this time. From my country Guatemala i send you my best blessing. Send me a Hello when you make the video. Thank you very much. God bless you 🤗👍
Thanks for the amazing review i was actually thinking to grab one of them am yet to decide on which one, however why to my eyes i feel the motion of the 8K is not smooth? is that due to processing?
Capt Drone... I feel your pain, that’s why currently I live in Florida... it’s a balmy 76 degrees (24c). Just giving you a hard time for the hard times you give us when I watch your videos and drool wanting to have one of those Evos drones... 🥲. Nice video...
Autel has done a amazing job with this Drone. Since Firmware 2:5:12 came out if the Drone is Calibrated correctly there is no possible way to get a more perfect Drone. Thanks Captain
The only problem with 6K & 8K recordings is needing new apps to edit these video files, and the faster CPUs needed to handle them, and the faster network needed to upload them, and the faster memory cards to record them. It's a never ending technology race.
Hello Cap.Im a big fan .😁😁 Thank you for this video. I love it.watch it maybe 10 or more times 🥰 When I watch your video in eachine ex5. I bought ex5 right away 😆 its my first drone actually. But when I watch this. Oh My I told myself I want to buy this evo II its my dream drone😆😁 . The problem is it would take me a year or more to actually buying it. 😅🤕.

Did I see a car roof in the river ? I can tell your on the Prairies somewhere but I think the ice I saw in Winterpeg anytime there was snow must have averaged 2 to 4 Hundred feet thick after it reached Minus Maz Earth, lol. I am not joking when I say this but when it warmed up to about -25 we would all be wandering in and out in T Shirts. Thanks for the video's I'm going with the 6K but I did think at times the color was a little more real on the 8K.
Hi Steve very good review, I got 8K but when I downloaded it to computer it plays back jurky not smooth like yours any ideas please ray Somerset England
That is due to the editing software. Stuffing an 8K file in with 4K files at different frame rates messes things up. Also, if you stream 8K off of UA-cam, you need extra size bandwidth.
None. I never mess with the image when doing comparisons.... that's cheating (i.e., correcting for something the drone didn't figure out in the situation).
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 so all in auto then? With all the evos 1 and 2 there is a bit of a relish or pink tone. I have to set mine to 5300-5500 kelvin. Our beaches are white, pinkish cream looking colour. Unfortunately if I leave on auto it gives a goldish colour which is not very nice Evo 1 had no luck in auto had to always shoot in LOG then adjust in post to get the correct colour in real view. They have improved on the Evo 2 series but for it again the auto is not correct. Your videos look good with the snow. Ive watched all your videos. Other drones that suffer this problem are the Fimi x8 and Anafi. The skin colour face tone gives a more yellowish colour. I really hope Autel improves on their colour science just like Dji. Sadly my Evo 1 is no longer in service with a bad camera. Evo 2 pro is still new so I use it for more expensive jobs that pay good money. This way I can get back money in time. Its an expensive drone but worth it
The 6k gave ultra-smooth video; the 8k did not. Do you thing this was a post production problem or the drone itself? Loe your channel; always as entertaining as it is informative 😊
Love your Channel! Thank you for all you do! Question: I am new to Autel Evo II and want to hand launch and catch but am not seeing any videos with truly good information. Can you hand launch and catch without boat mode being on?
It's honestly a real nice drone. I love my Evo 2 pro 6k so much. The only thing that bothers me is that you don't get any sound with the videos you record, the videos are all mute. It's just kind of nice to look back at the videos and hear some noise instead of them being mute. Other than that, it's super nice. You should do more videos on the 6k version. Maybe best settings for photos and videos, how to use to d-log and what apps I can use to edit it, and some other features in the drone. Another thing, do you know where to buy batteries from. They are $300 on Amazon. I found some on Ali express for $195.11 and free shipping from a seller called EasyFly Store, what do you think about them?
It seems as though the Pro 6K sensor when shooting "natively" at 4K is cropping the field of view and not using the entire sensor (no pixel binning). Do I have that right?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 So either 5.5K or 4K out of the camera, the Evo II Pro 6K camera maintains the same framing? (Not throwing away pixels to shoot at 4K natively?). That's great news and likely closes the deal for me if someone can please confirm.
@@ivaneberle3972 Oh, I'm sure they toss pixels away since I can't see the full sensor being used for different resolutions...but a human would never be able to tell without special equipment to confirm.
If they're discarding excess pixels and not binning at 4K, the 6K Pro camera would effectively have a much smaller than 1" sensor at 4K capture. (To get to 5.5K, the pixel pitch is necessarily smaller so the denser pixels individually gather less light than a 4K native resolution 1" sensor-- all else being equal.

All i understood from the intro about people requesting drone reviews is that CD needs to review everything and more :) i quite like the diversity even if a long while back its probably the budget drone that brought me here
Great Review, really answers all my questions, thank you for your hard work making it
Glad to help!
Best looking Drones. Easy on the eyes, cooler looking that any other brand!
The 6K is just Phenomenal 😳👍. Come on Lottery !
Can you do a review of the go pro karma in 2020?
Thanks for your efforts!
Can you please review the new dji mavic 3
Hi you scould try the new low noise propeller on the evo 2 lower pitch and 1min more flight time about
Love your videos
Hey capt., you know I was gonna ask you about that snow....if you can make a cone snow! Lol
Autel Evo II is awesome and if i could afford it, would not hesitate buying one. So for now, it's a Bugs life 😁. Great video and scenery, Steve.👍👍
Amazing! I remember back in the day when 1080p was a big deal!

I don’t have a budget for a drone . Wish Autel made a drone under 250 grams . That’s the only requirement I have for a drone .
The V-COPTR is very much a lost cause it would appear.
Thanks for your video @CAPTAIN DRONE. What is the max range on those drones?
9 Km range.
Great review. Definitely on my list. I have the Magic 2 Zoom but the no fly zones has impacted me a bit
The evo 2 pro hands down, a killer also in lowlight, and full night.
Quality vid love the orange color very good on covering everything about these two drones very very interesting good job bud.
Dear Captain drone can u do a review or a video on the new DJI Smart controller?
I have a Parrot Bebop 2 now. Thinking about purchasing either a DJI Mavic pro 2 or Autel Evo 2. Any advise on this issue?
Looking to get the EVO II Pro(6K) later. Any recommendations for a $150-250 beginner drone to start out with…. Something that has similar controls to prepare me for the Autel 6K??
Thanks for the comparison cap't. Since I don't do much cropping or zooming. I'm gonna stick with my Evo1. Autel in general makes a good camera.
Yes the bright green Evo drone is really good if you're colorblind.
It took me about five seconds but I got it, that was funny. Lol
I watch youtube on 40' TV but the highest resolution I can choose is 4K so sadly I can't compare the differences. Anyway they both are obviously great and I hope that some day (after several years) I will be able to buy it and fly it :)
8k is pumped as 48mpix is pumped from real 12 mpix, which is true optical resolution of the sensor ;) see quadbayer specs ;)
I have been flying drones for years mostly DJI from a Mavic Pro to an Inspire 2 with the X4S camera and by far the EVO 2 Pro has given me the best footage that I have ever seen. Just curious what SD card are you using for your EVO 2 Pro when shooting 6K?
Both have a 128 Gig sandisk extreme U3
Captain Drone i really like the way you explain all in the evo 2.
But please make a video show how you can used the voice comands of the evo 2 because nobody do it at this time.
From my country Guatemala i send you my best blessing. Send me a Hello when you make the video.
Thank you very much. God bless you 🤗👍
Another really informative and funny video. I'm thinking the 6k is the way to go. Thanks Steve.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the amazing review i was actually thinking to grab one of them am yet to decide on which one, however why to my eyes i feel the motion of the 8K is not smooth? is that due to processing?
8K is so very hard to edit on a computer (takes plenty of processing power)
Capt Drone... I feel your pain, that’s why currently I live in Florida... it’s a balmy 76 degrees (24c). Just giving you a hard time for the hard times you give us when I watch your videos and drool wanting to have one of those Evos drones... 🥲. Nice video...
Autel has done a amazing job with this Drone. Since Firmware 2:5:12 came out if the Drone is Calibrated correctly there is no possible way to get a more perfect Drone.
Thanks Captain
Dji is going to show up and tell you to hold their beer. Dji is king and won’t let this last long.
is it me, that i like the 6k more? 8k is bit softer on the output
I'm really looking forward to the autel evo lite coming soon
Sir please can you do a review of the WLtoys xk x1s drone it is the improved version of the WLtoys xk x1 drone please🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The only problem with 6K & 8K recordings is needing new apps to edit these video files, and the faster CPUs needed to handle them, and the faster network needed to upload them, and the faster memory cards to record them.
It's a never ending technology race.
Hello Cap.Im a big fan .😁😁
Thank you for this video. I love it.watch it maybe 10 or more times 🥰
When I watch your video in eachine ex5. I bought ex5 right away 😆 its my first drone actually. But when I watch this. Oh My I told myself I want to buy this evo II its my dream drone😆😁 .
The problem is it would take me a year or more to actually buying it. 😅🤕.
This drone is awesome. If Autel can make it as light as DJI Mavic air 2, I would buy it for traveling without the car.
Love ur reviews . Lol. U crack me up. Thank u for ur amazing channel my man.
Glad you like them!
Can you review Flypie Drone 6K Pro ?
White dandruff !! I nearly spat my tea all over the keyboard and monitor. Thanks for a great review. It's usually dull & overcast here in England so I went for the EVO 2 Pro.
I love my Mavic Mini so much it's ridiculous really, also my Mini 2 Fly More Combo with 1 year DJI Care Refresh package is already chillin under the Christmas tree!
Yeeeeeeeeey!!!
Sweet
Keep well and be safe everyone!!!
I'm waiting for the 50k.
Did you manually adjust the exposure for the bright snow background, or did the drone handle it automatically? The exposure seemed very accurate.
To be fair I let all 3 cameras automatically adjust for the snow which is a difficult thing to do for any camera (most cameras turn snow purple)
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Hey... they have purple rain ☔️ just ask prince. Oh on second thought. You can’t ask prince 😎
Wow. That video is super quality. 👍
Curious to know what white balance were you using with the Evo 2 pro please?
Great video
Unfortunately if I leave on auto it gives a goldish colour which is not very nice
Evo 1 had no luck in auto had to always shoot in LOG then adjust in post to get the correct colour in real view.
My computer is extremely powerful, but processing 8K and 6K on the same timeline has its challenges.
you got the 6k camera!
Love your Channel! Thank you for all you do! Question: I am new to Autel Evo II and want to hand launch and catch but am not seeing any videos with truly good information. Can you hand launch and catch without boat mode being on?
I have never tried a hand launch with the EVO II
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you! If you ever do try please post a video. ;)
Can you review the icat7 pro drone
Was that a car sunk in the creek? Sure looked like one :)
"Cool" Review Steve, Much appreciated... Stay warm
It seems as though the Pro 6K sensor when shooting "natively" at 4K is cropping the field of view and not using the entire sensor (no pixel binning). Do I have that right?
To be honest, I have never noticed. The FOV is similar at all resolutions.
(To get to 5.5K, the pixel pitch is necessarily smaller so the denser pixels individually gather less light than a 4K native resolution 1" sensor-- all else being equal.
great video cant believe how quickly the temp drops where you are.
How cold was it?
