I'm glad you pointed that out about the batteries because 2 other drone channels said the batteries are compatible with each other but you showed there not.
Bought it for my wife she started with jjrc x11 and she loved it. Mini 2 has no sensors but the dji mini 2 has awesome features and the controller is great. She has what I like to call just send it. She did got scared because it was so far away. Told her just push return to home she was very impressed it came back and landed next to our take off point. I love my mavic air I don't worry as much flying my dji drones used to that's a lot of money to loose no strings to pull it back. Dji drones give me a great sense of confidence with my zino pro not so much. Thank you for your videos learning a lot and trying fpv with my tinygo fpv beginners kit. Thanks again and hope to see more videos on your website
Come on Captain. You live in Canada. Your coat should never be in storage. 😜We did try the Mini 2 but returned it. After owning the Mavic Air 2 you can't get away from the toy-like feel of it. So we got another Mavic Air 2. It's really cool flying two Mavic Air 2 drones together, Me and my son. A fun hobby for sure! 👊
Just got the mini 2 in today and they are all charged and ready to go in the morning... perfect timing since I closed on my first house by the beach!!!
I just bought a used Mini 1 with two batteries for $400CAD... too good a deal to pass up. I might upgrade at some time in the future but for now, wow what a great drone!

The review I was waiting for... Thank you for such knowledgeable and insightful information. Captain Drone is not only knowledgeable, he’s also non biased, and enthusiastic. Best drone content on UA-cam hands down 💪 Getting my Mini 2 today, gave the Mini 1 I had to my brother and he’s really stoked.
Captain Drone I've been fortunate lately. To be able to buy anything you review on your channel. I like both unit's. I have the Mavic Air 2. So I don't see no need to purchased them. I'm feeling good with what I already have. Let somebody else get the opportunity to join our DJi "Club Of Drone's". Thanks!!!! Captain Drone for everything you do in that Canadian Winter!!! You are the Man of Drone's!!!!
Pro Tip: If you hold the function key in the upper left top face of the controller and use the gimbal wheel on the upper edge of the controller, you can do smooth zooming without it being jittery or jumpy. I don't have a mini or a mini 2, for now, it's just my Yuniq 500 ST and my DJI Spark.
Wow Steve, great job 👏, You are a amazing Man ,that explained everything very well, I just purchased my First DJI product, I purchased the Mini 2 at best buy, and I bought the Om 4 for my wifes new I phone 12 pro max, it's a little overwhelming for her to learn everything at first. Thank you Captain Drone, Your the Best. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless you and your family
At 22min in, being a photographer, I think the 1 is clearer than the 2. You don't need raw if you don't use photoshop. Do like the li po power though, especially for Welsh windy mountains. I had the 1, but may consider getting the 2. Great, thorough review as always , thank you.
Captain Drone great video, as always. I heard that Xiaomi is planning on releasing a quadcopter in the category. There is still nothing like these 2 top notch mini quads today, 6 months after the DJI Mini 2 launch. For those who want a hobby grade quadcopter, there are so few options under 250 grams. For photography grade quality, only DJI has an offering here. Parrot, Yuneec, and others seem to be focused on their own niches. For those who are looking for a DJI alternative, the options are VERY few. Here are the minimum things I specifications was considering: -Under 250g -Brushless motors -SD card slot -Minimum 1080p camera -20+ minute flight time -GPS, RTH, stable flight You can find all kind of toys out there, and you can find plenty mini drones with brushed motors and no SD card slot under 250 grams (.55 lbs or 8.8 oz). If it isn't DJI, this category will basically put you in "budget drone" territory. So if you want a mini drone that is not made by DJI which meets these requirements, you have even fewer options. The best hobby grade options that meet these requirements are as follows: 1. DJI Mini 2: foldable, best in class 30-31 minute flight time, best in class 4K camera, best in class radio link technology. about $450-590 USD 2. DJI Mavic Mini: foldable, 30 minute flight time, 2.7K camera, for about $400 USD. 3. JJRC X9PS: not foldable, 21 minute flight time, 2 axis gimbal stabilization, DJI Spark-like design with folding props. 25 FPS max?? All for about $225 USD if you opt for 2 batteries. **4. Syma/Cheerwing W1 Pro (about $150 USD for 2 batteries, decent images, no gimbal) [Honorable mention] ** only has 15-18 minute flight time, and no gimbal or image stabilization Captain drone has a great review on the JJRC X9PS as well, but I have not found anything else that comes close!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I’ve been watching your videos for about a year and now I’m gonna be 12 yrs old. Thanks for introducing me to the wonderful world of drones !!!
I sold my Mini 1 on eBay when the Mini 2 came out. I live in an area that has interference and my Mini 1 and I couldn’t get more than 3 blocks away before losing connection and the drone would auto return. Occusync 2 was the tipping point for me.

Hey Cap. Thanks to your original review I got into a Mavic Mini after being interested in drones for years. The kicker was when you went out on your bike and took your Mini with you. I ride too and having a motorcycle friendly drone is awesome. It's been a constant companion, on outings with two wheels and four, even now that it is beginning to freeze in Northern, NY. So far I've put 31 hours on my Mini and flown 227 km and have no regrets. I even got my FAA license here in the states. I'm a frequent viewer of your channel and love your content. I wish the Mini 2 hadn't come out quite so soon after having gotten into the 1, but I love my drone nonetheless.
This year in june after watching your reviews of BUGS 4W, now I have four drones in very short of time. LOL... Mavic Pro/Air2/Mini2. I LOVE WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL!!!

Thanks Steve . Your reviews are always amazing. Unwrapped the mini 2 for Christmas and I can’t wait to get out for a flight. If only these snow squalls would end here in Penetanguishene Ontario.
Love how much input you put into your videos, to show the public and first time drone buyers the true differences between the two amazing Mini’s. Being a Mini owner I look to you before making quick decisions and spending my hard earned money. I’m a little let down with my pre-formed opinion of Occu Sync, for in my head 6 miles, and a unstoppable RC signal!! Thanks for all your info, tips, tutorials, please keep sharing and stay flying my Mavic Friends,😎 P.S. after recent events here in the U.S.A, I find myself dreaming a bit of your beautiful home( Canada). Capt Drone... I was thinking that I was the only one trying to land my drone on my hood... fortunately mine didn’t crash and I was able to save it as it’s started to slide on my hood, but when I saw yours and the angle of your hood I freaked out when I saw the mini 2 sliding down the hood, fender and sadly the concrete. Good video as usual. 👍🏼
The remote is what has me sold on getting the Mini 2 as I don't like removing my case to mount my phone. The 4k, better wind resistance, and extra minute of flight time is not so much a big deal to me. Also just noticed, you got a Gladiator...
Excellent presentation. Very good and thought-out compilation of the different talking points drone buyers are having and exactly what's we needed to differentiate these two products. "DJI has permitted the Mini 2 to record in 4k" - very succinct & sums up it up perfectly ! especially considering the Sensor and Image processor (Amberalla H22) is exactly the same.... Also from a marketing and sales perspective it opens up a new market for the Mini 1 making it more accessible to drone fliers looking to enter the hobby at a lower price point whilst moving up the Mini 2 into the "upsell" or premium category to capture discerning buyers looking for something more... (iphone 11 vrs iphone 11 pro) Clever strategy by DJI BTW too much "Wax" on the Jeep - "even a bug would skid right off"
I would like to have either but I have a fimi x8 se 2020 already on its way because your review on it was awesome and the price on sale couldn't be beat by anyone. Thanks capt.
I have a wall full of so called Budget Drones. Bugs, Holy Stone, Jjrc,Etc Etc. I have never got one of them off the wall since the first day I got the Mini. That little Drone changed everything.
Good to see the test of reception on both behind the school building. Like to see other tests with hills and trees and other things to see how reception differs between mini 1 and mini2.
Very well done! Question: Radio transmission is on 2.4GHz. Video transmission is using 5.8GHz. Is it possible to use my FatShark HDO2 goggles to pick up the video? OSD telemetry would be a plus, but not a deal breaker. THANKS!
Nope. In the old days FATSHARK made the DOMINIATOR V3 goggles that were for the DJI Phantom 3 drone, with head tracker unit. You had to use an HDMI cable out from the controller and into the goggles to get video. The same applies today.
Happy to see you did this comparison video. I have been feeling a little steamed at you for telling me last March that the magic mini was the best quality beginner drone and if I could get the flymore combo. When this came out and addressed my complaints by upping the power ,going 4K, more lighting and the controller upgrade. But then I had to remember all the cool shots I got etc. But man I find myself wishing I had waited but loved having mini this summer. Thanks for the comparison Steve. I am torn because I would need to sell my mini one now before all the sale prices kick in
Another difference that you missed is the Mavic Mini uses micro USB and the DJI Mini 2 uses USB-C. That goes for the drone and the charging station. Other than that you did a great job Steve at comparing them and showing the differences. 👍
Another great review. Thanks for pointing out the differences, and all the information you provided about the batteries between the two models, that is good stuff to know. Your videos are so well done! I have the Mini 2 but I thought the picture from the Mini 1 actually looked better in your video. I also have the Mavic Air 2, and I definitely think the Air 2 has more solid video than the Mini 2. But DJI likes to do updates, so I'm thinking they will improve the video on the Mini 2 down the road. Even as it currently is, the Mini 2 has really good video, and in the two weeks I've had it, I've been very impressed with it.
The comparison we have been waiting for !!!; I guess highlights how good the original Mini still is !! Video (assume standard settings on both?) on the Mini 1 looked less "saturated / dark" compared to the Mini 2 and thought the "detail / sharpness" on the 1 was pretty damn comparable !!!; great comparison Captain and loved the "cartoon segueing" of your good self !!! nice effect!
Oh Dear oh Dear Captain!; going through Captain Drone review withdrawal !!!!; revisited this as I picked up a Mini 1 today for $200 AUS (only 6 battery cycles) and compared the footage to the Mini 3 Pro; very surprising outcome; colour profile on the 3 Pro looks better however the overall image (sharpness in particular) looks very similar!!!; cant wait for that comparison between the Spark (and you made an interesting comment regards the sensor) and all DJI Mini Drones that have come after !!!
Thank you for the video. As a begining drone enthusiast I see that the Mini 1 will be a much better choice for me to get into using a quality drone. I have found that a bunch of people are trying to sell their mini 1's with a fly more combo for less than a mini 2 alone because they upgraded.
I'm a really old man, however after watching your videos I decided to get the mini 2 and I don't know how to fly one Hopefully it's not to difficult. Thanks for your reviews I love watching them
Thanks for doing such a thorough comparison, Cap'n, it was great to see the side-by-sid pics and video. As someone who just got the Mini 1 last month, it was nice to see that I'm really not missing out on much not having 4K (as I thought), but it was really interesting to see the penetration test, I hadn't thought about the fact that OccSync would have such an advantage. Just another fantastic review from the best in the game - keep safe!
Great, comprehensive video Steve. As a photographer I like the freedom that RAW images give me and never having owned any drone before, I think you've just made up my mind for me. Cheers.
Literally just got the first mini 3 days ago it's my first drone totally happy! I was able to get the fly more combo as well what a awesome experience. Would love the mini 2 just for the occu sync 2.0 but I'm still super happy!
Wonderful and concise review. I wished that they had a sale on the Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2 on DJI's website. Their big deals are for the action and handheld cameras :( Waving from The Bahamas :)
Love the video, I've noticed in a lot of videos that they don't cover what phone they use. I no that's trivial but when you are just starting it would be nice to know.
In the Netherlands we don't have the TS version of the mavic mini 1 but the european version so the range is in an open field 2 km max with the CE version and with wifi interference spaces you might be glad if you reach 400 meters then ocusync is a huge deal in Europe
Hi Steve! Glad you're good. The Mini 2 was announced the day after I bought the Mini 1 Fly More Combo 😁 It's a great drone, but I may exchange it just to get that controller that comes with the Mini 2. I didn't know about that LED headlight! The more I learn about the Mini 2, the better it looks. This is the best side-by-side comparison on UA-cam. Thanks always for what you do! Best wishes, always, from Rochester, New York :) Cheers!
This review just confirmed that the mavic mini 1 is still a great drone. I went to the dji website as you recommended and it’s on sale right now. I’ll be buying it for my daughter as a Christmas gift. :-)
Since updating my Google Pixel 3XL I'm no longer able to fly my DJI mini Mavic. And now my DJI app doesn't work ... Any ideas how to get me flying again ??
I heard about that issue with the brand new PIXEL but was not aware it affected the older versions. DJI will have to put out a fix in their apps so that the sofware is compatible.
Great video! I was disappointed that I got a Mavic mini hardly a month before the mini 2 was released. I am happy that the difference is very little. Thanks again.
The lower you go the less signal, that's why when you landed behind the school it lost signalz completely the Mini 2.. Lol once landed the drone will not initiate RTH unless you do it from the controller while it has connection to the drone.. Sweet Keep well and be safe bro!
Nice comparisons, particularly the explanation of the different batteries and very good post production. I own both the Mavic Mini and the Mini 2. DJI is working on firmware updates to solve issues that owners are having. Hopefully, all will be resolved soon. Both drones are great.
Didn’t see much of a difference between the videos from each as would be expected, but the new Mini certainly one more step up. Zoom function nice too. One note however; 0 C not really cold here in Canada, but it does mean that shorts can now be put away! Another great video!
Just got my DJI Mini-2 yesterday. Even after watching and reading dozens of reviews and reading DJI's material I found out today that the Fly App does not give you a choice of charging or not charging your android smartphone when connected to the controller nor does it allow you to choose to toggle the customizable button between recentering the gimbal and map view if you have an android device.
I just bought the Holy Stone 700e. I like it except for the fact that the transmitter is sporadic and the weak link of the kit. Very often the Drone does not respond, tho when it responds, it flies well. I am wondering if the Mini 2 will be better or the same? Any Mini 2 users find it loses contact with the remote often? Thanks all. Love this channel.
Thank you for all your hard work on top of your day job. You have been my number one drone 'go to' since lockdown as i wrestled with buying a drone which really is a luxury item on my meagre council wage! Black Friday and the discount on the mini 1 equates to me owning a drone..Could have pushed to the 2, but, with your help, understand the 1 is sufficient for my needs. Will continue to follow your channel as it is entertaining as well as informative! Thank you, and to you and all of your subscribers, have a great Christmas and a happy healthy 2021, with love and thanks from Eastbourne England!
I had my mini 2 for a few days. I had to return mine back to Amazon. It had a camera malfunction and sensor error. Very expensive. Not very reliable. I flew.it a couple of times. I didn't crash it or it anything. Flys very smoothly and great quality video and photos.
Awesome review/video! I'm doing a kind of wood rack over my Kona roof rack, because when I'm going on trails with it(yes with a Kona) I always film/take pictures of my crew, and since the metal of the car isn't to close, I don't have any issue!!!
I'm just glad no one snatched up that drone when it was landed behind the school! You Canadians are truly good people lol
I'm glad you pointed that out about the batteries because 2 other drone channels said the batteries are compatible with each other but you showed there not.
Finally took my Mini2 out today! So incredible to see this little guy do so much! Such a blast! Can't wait to get the drone out again!

But isn’t 5.8GHz, 5.8GHz? How is it prioritized only for DJI? Shouldn’t any 5.8GHz receiver pick up the signal?
I watched a lot of mini 2 reviews and you really got in depth and hit on some things that really matter and I want to thank you
The light on the mini 2 was supposed to be an obstacle avoidance sensor but they change their mind and installed a light instead. That’s what I think.
Love the video, I've noticed in a lot of videos that they don't cover what phone they use. I no that's trivial but when you are just starting it would be nice to know.
Great work on that video Captain ,that is top notch editing and lots of work ,you are very good at what you do ,thanks buddy.
Thanks 👍
Capital, the best review and comparison explained. Thanks
You NAILED this video👍... you really did a GREAT JOB in COMPARISON between the Mini 1 & 2...you REALLY EDIT the video very well!... HATS OFF SIR!
Thank you!
In the Netherlands we don't have the TS version of the mavic mini 1 but the european version so the range is in an open field 2 km max with the CE version and with wifi interference spaces you might be glad if you reach 400 meters then ocusync is a huge deal in Europe
Thanks, nice look at the two offerings, and the Mini 2's additional features over the 1. Great video!
Cool 👍
I scored a mavic mini for $100 from someone on Facebook market, best purchase ever these drones are amazing.
This review just confirmed that the mavic mini 1 is still a great drone. I went to the dji website as you recommended and it’s on sale right now. I’ll be buying it for my daughter as a Christmas gift. :-)
I love my mavic mini, the mini 2 would be a great buy.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ... I certainly hope so, otherwise I'll be swapping brands for a more reliable one !! 😶
@@catbreath007 LOL good luck.
1.5.0 should support android 12
@@Matanumi .. got it sorted now, I had to download another app which enabled the DJI app to open up & work 👍
Excellent comparison and information on both drones. Really helpful, thanks.
Which city are you in? Aren't Canadian drone laws very restrictive? I've been thinking of buying but even provincial parks are off limits.
The drone is under 250 grams.... Canadian Drone laws apply very little.
CAPTAIN DRONE i live in the GTA and it's mostly a no fly which I believe still apply to under 250 gram drones.
Great video! I was disappointed that I got a Mavic mini hardly a month before the mini 2 was released. I am happy that the difference is very little. Thanks again.
Great comprehensive comparison between the Mini 1 & Mini 2. 👍👍
Great job capt. Really nice review !!
The lower you go the less signal, that's why when you landed behind the school it lost signalz completely the Mini 2.. Lol once landed the drone will not initiate RTH unless you do it from the controller while it has connection to the drone..
Sweet
Keep well and be safe bro!
17:19 really slick paint job
Your a true Canadian, great review out in the cold again. Answered many questions here. I need that ocusync for my bush trail videos.
Nice comparisons, particularly the explanation of the different batteries and very good post production. I own both the Mavic Mini and the Mini 2. DJI is working on firmware updates to solve issues that owners are having. Hopefully, all will be resolved soon. Both drones are great.
Even though I'm not interested in the Mavic Mini, this still contains very interesting info about the Mini 2 :)
WoW... very very very long review video Steve. I like it👍 Hopefully next year DJI will come out with a Mini Plus (+) with obstacle avoidance.
very nice review and accurate, now I can choose which drone I will buy. thanks, Captain Drone
Got a good deal on a mini 2 and WoW is it impressive. Looks like a indoor toy drone at first compared to my 550g drone. But does it ever have power!
Favourite video! Learned a lot about drones in general! Soon to be flyer!
Thank you!
I have the air conditioning on here in Phoenix, Arizona USA. Temps are in the upper 80f’s
Didn’t see much of a difference between the videos from each as would be expected, but the new Mini certainly one more step up. Zoom function nice too. One note however; 0 C not really cold here in Canada, but it does mean that shorts can now be put away! Another great video!
Awesome video today. What drone is the best (but affordable) that has the “follow me” option?
Best bang for buck would be HolyStone HS720E
Will never get HolyStone. Had 2 and both sucked so much they gave me a free one which sucked even more. Sold them all.
@@teamsaunz oh sorry to hear that
All of the low cost drones in this video have a FOLLOW function: ua-cam.com/video/6_kqvZSVWCw/v-deo.html
Which phone are you using?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I contacted DJI Support and was told this is normal for now.
Get a Mini 2, it will be like night and day from what you have now.
thank you for sharing all the tools used for the test
Thank you for all your hard work on top of your day job. You have been my number one drone 'go to' since lockdown as i wrestled with buying a drone which really is a luxury item on my meagre council wage! Black Friday and the discount on the mini 1 equates to me owning a drone..Could have pushed to the 2, but, with your help, understand the 1 is sufficient for my needs. Will continue to follow your channel as it is entertaining as well as informative! Thank you, and to you and all of your subscribers, have a great Christmas and a happy healthy 2021, with love and thanks from Eastbourne England!
I would love to see you make a video flying the Mavic Mini 1 using the Litchi app to see what it can do!
I love the Drone Stickers where can I get one for my mini 2? In the States.
best feature of the mini 2 is the rainbow mode on the light :)) i have that on all the time
You got me to buy the mini se with your love of the mini's
Capt., Another great video! Stay with the jeep landings but take it to the body shop and have them put 90° corners on the hood!
I had my mini 2 for a few days. I had to return mine back to Amazon. It had a camera malfunction and sensor error. Very expensive. Not very reliable. I flew.it a couple of times. I didn't crash it or it anything. Flys very smoothly and great quality video and photos.
Nothing beats boosted every quad I own gets boosted no worries about penetration. Nice jeep!
Awesome review/video! I'm doing a kind of wood rack over my Kona roof rack, because when I'm going on trails with it(yes with a Kona) I always film/take pictures of my crew, and since the metal of the car isn't to close, I don't have any issue!!!
