Great to see the improvements. Am I crazy or is the horizon terribly crooked on the video at about 12:10 to 12:15? Please tell me Autel has fixed the past horzon issues!
All drones have a bit of "horizon tilt" no matter how expensive they are. There are always firmware updates to fix such but in most cases the only fix is a quick gimble calibration.
Hi Cap. Just a question from the main drone authority (in my book💪): should I pick up a used DJI Mavic Mini (1) Fly More combo or an autel Evo Nano (Standart)? I know that the Autel has a superior camera and range, but given it will be my starting drone, I think the 3 batteries will be important... If you could spread some wisdom, I greatly appreciate your help👍👍👍
The original MAVIC Mini is very barebones with limited features, but it is reliable, although not really supported anymore due to age. The Autel Nano had two versions… one with a great camera and one with an average camera. I think you are looking at the one with the average camera. If you could find a used DJI MINI 2 (not the SE version) then that would be a great option.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for the input. I believe that the Autel I'm refering to is the cheapest one. Being the first drone I will fly (besides a mini X4 from hubsan, almost a decade ago), I guess that for less than 200$ I can't really go wrong with the Mini 1 (full extras)... Thanks again. Mini 2 would be amazing, but out of my budget (for now)👍
AUTO. The 180 rule was designed for olden day film cameras with manual apertures and filming at 24 FPS providing the smoothing/blurring effect of natural eyesight. Camera drones do not work well with the 180 rule due to the drone flying high and always changing direction (lighting). The only time the 180 rule works on a camera drone with a fixed aperture & non-removable lens is when flying low to the ground and a good speed.
Looks like it improved a lot Steve! Finally got my Nano+ in after some shipping mix up! Would love to repurpose old Parrot hard case for the Nano premium package, but can't find new foam liner at reasonable price. (12x9x4) Any ideas? Thanks
i thought this drone did quite well, maybe the price would be decisive as everyone seems to compare it with DJI - as far as camera drones go i am eyeballing that crazy 360 drone reviewed not long ago - no RC snowblower ?! !
Mini 3 Pro is here! Camera quality is matched with great flight performance which seems to be missing in Autel. They tend to focus too much on image quality and needs to improve more on other aspects.
Always enjoyable videos. I love my Nano plus. It may need some updates along with time for autel to get this little guy where it's supposed to be. Thank you. 😊
I don’t know much about drones. Does the drone use GPS derived speed to limit how fast it can go? That is even in a strong tail wind it will only do 15 m/s across the ground? If that’s correct why? Is it just to make it easier to control? Thanks
Drones have to tilt on an angle to move in any direction. Drone speed is limited to the angle because it affects the movement of the camera. The higher the angle, the faster the speed but then the camera angle is now less and no longer usable to look forward.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks, I got confused I was watching a channel called Idaho quadcopter and he flew an Autel Nano plus with the wind and against the wind. My impression was in fastest mode the drone did not go faster than 15 metres/second with the wind and would only go about 6 to 7 metres per second against the wind. So that’s why I wondered if for some reason the drone firmware limited the drone speed to 15 metres/second across the ground rather than allowing the drone to achieve air speed plus wind speed movement. Looking again, and it’s a bit tedious the drone seemed to be angled sideways most of the time so it was not travelling directly into or with the wind and that plus maybe the operator decided to take the power off once the drone hit 15 metres/second limited the drone speed. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me. I am thinking of buying an Autel nano plus as my first drone once the initial issues are resolved. Thanks again.
The last firmware I installed did not have the BYPASS option, unless the drone was in TRACK mode, but even then it was not near as good as the DJI BYPASS.
We had a "once in 10 years" snow storm around Christmas in Vancouver... city shuts down when it happens LOL- we aren't equipped to handle it as well because it rarely happens here compared to other Canadian regions...
Those ND filters are definitely invaluable. This drone is probably the best for most enthusiasts in Canada and many other places as it's under 250 grams and has an awesome camera. Is DJI going to top this?
I think for those people who only know DJI, then whatever DJI makes can do know wrong. Same is true from those people who left DJI and moved to AUTEL and now no matter what AUTEL makes, that is their brand. Kind of like APPLE phone users vs ANDROID phone users. You stick with what you are familiar with. I'm sure the DJI MINI 3 with obstacle avoidance, although very late to the market, will be very good.
When we talk about overall flight perfromance, I really do think DJI is ahead in the game. And now with the release of the Mini 3 Pro, I think a lot will still opt to spend extra money on it than the Nano+. DJI seems to have established that they’re a more reliable brand than others when it comes to drones especially on flight performance. But of course, to each their own.
You are thinking of the HUBSAN ZINO PRO perhaps? And that is because the HUBSAN ZINO PRO has no FAN and can overheat. The EVO NANO has a fan, so no issue. To keep the sensors cool when the props are not running, the NANO reduces the vid signal/resolution until you take off.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I make tractor UA-cam content so the drone will be used to film epic aerial footage, and this replaces my Parrot BeBop 2. Have a great week.
From what I have seen in some of your videos, the sensors stop you from getting closer than 5 meters to an object. Can the sensors be turned off? Also, can the voice alerts be muted?
Great video. I think I’m going to grab one of these. I have been going back and fourth between the Nano+ and the Mini 2. I was wondering, have u ever considered doing a remote/software review on the different units? That’s like up there in the lvl of importance to me when looking at a drone. How ease to use and see the remote and remote software of the drone is.
All GPS Camera Drones on the market for consumers are all designed with the beginner in mind, so the interface on all drones is designed for a first time user. If you can figure out 40% of the interface, that is usually enough to get flying.
Hard to beat the success of the Mini 2 when we’re talking about mini drones, price and performance wise. All the more I know Mini 3 is going to be more successful. I’m going to wait for its launch before I decide. Keeping my Mini 2 in the meantime.
Now that the Mini 3 is out, which one would you pick: Autel Evo Nano + or Mini 3 Pro? (Or even another drone in this weight segment?) -of course, the mini 3 Pro has better features- but if one wants to spend less than 700€ Euros..?
Hey Steve like always another good video talking about drones and how they changed a few things and made them better all that kind of stuff and I’m always envious of you having all the cool toys keep doing what you do man
Hi Boy it’s been warm Ha ha i find all of your video’s quite informative for me this drone is a bit out of my price range. I am getting pretty good at tackling the wind with these lighter drones i test wind when i first put them up and get upwind kinda hard to lose it that way , i have a fimi x 8 2022 on the way a question this precision landing does the target have to be round or can it be square? I kinda figure it will be within a yard or two of take off like most drones.
Hi, when I connect the remote control Nano+ to my mobile phone, it charges continuously. The remote control then discharges in an hour. How do I turn off cell phone charging?
I also saw the Jello even through your screen recording ... I've seen others with the latest updates that didn't have Jello.. guess autel said the update fixed it or if it still exists then send it back and they'll change out the old for new dampers .. idk..
Great video, thanks for the update on the improvements. Very interested in buying this drone and I’m also from Ontario. Can you share where you got your Auto from? By coincidence also a Gladiator owner.
Hi Capt.! Stumbled across you whilst researching this drone, great video - I've subscribed! I have a question; I've asked Autel directly and await their response but would appreciate your unbiased and real world answer - I noticed in your video when you were scrolling through the screen menu that it said "50MP photo only supports single shot and the photo format is JPG" What is the max resolution photo this camera will capture in DNG format? I can't find the answer on the Autel spec pages. Thanks in advance.
Correct. Only in JPG and it is a software enhanced 50 no vice optical, which means if you zoom way into the photo it looks digitized. Can’t recall what the native resolution is but if you go watch my first review on this drone from early January, I show it.
The USA Government is not impressed with DJI drones and has banned them for business and government use, which allows companies like AUTEL to gain some ground.
@@mad547s8 Canada is too busy with other issues to pay much attention to drones. Transport Canada looks at that portion. So Canadian governments can buy DJI drones if they wish.
Lol. Nice Drone. Stuttery video. I prefer my old Mavic 2 Zoom. Buttersmooth video controll and zooming. This is all “digital” garbage. Stay mechanical. You won’t regret it!
Hello, I was just wondering if you could tell me why Autel Evo Namo Plus is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper on Ebay than anywhere else. The package with 3 batteries etc is under $600.00. I want to purchase, but am very skeptical. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You!
Unfortunately I don’t follow the various stores and prices so can’t be of help. My advice is to simply look at the price at a several stores in your country, then on eBay look which country the item is sold from & make sure the listings are for the same item. Then if you have doubt contact the seller.
That’s a nice improvement. I heard the hubsan had released their firmware update for zino mini pro’s smart features and filming. Maybe you can test that.
How much does this little aircraft weigh with a ND filter installed? Also I wonder how much weight can be saved/added by utilizing half charged batteries vs fully charged, and a 64gig SD card vs. 256 gig? NO ONE has ever covered this topic to my knowledge...
ND filter would send it to 250 grams. In all countries, the weight of a commercially produced drone is based on the weight that was provided to the government to register the drone on the commerce market for sale, thus if you buy a drone noted to be 249 grams (certified) then if you add different props to it, nd filters, snow flakes, rain drops, dirt stuck to the legs, etc.... The drone is still then permitted to fly within the 249 gram national flight spectrum.
You are buying a flying camera and this drone is the best money can buy today. I always recommend ND filters no matter if you have Jello or not to avoid playback problems. Yes, with a little bit of color grading in AE I can make it’s image look better or the same as the Mavic 3. Image quality of the video and photos are impressive. The small factor, best remote format, video quality and great at night recording you can really use this drone for TV commercials today.
Was wondering if you did a full calibration after the update. Is that something a person should do after an update? For a sub mini drone. I think it does great. Would definitely not fly in winds like you would with the captain drone, drone....LOL Now it's just a matter of time waiting for Mini 3 to come out. Great video as always.........🎥
That snow is massive! I have been watching your channel for a few years now (its just gets better and better - loved the Lite+ series by the way. Have one of those on order) In the years I have been watching I don't think I have ever seen that much snow! Is this a particularly bad year? In New Zealand we are really seeing the impacts of Climate change and snow and winter temperatures are not what they used to be, weather is a lot more moderate (we are surrounded by oceans) are you seeing any changes there or is the snow just getting thicker!!? :-) Cheers Andrew P.S. For a little drone that quality is amazing!
The drone was scheduled to launch in mid February 2023, however due to demand, Autel did like DJI and launched it before it was ready, but told everyone that all features would be added by end February. Some reviewers and early buyers unfortunately ignore that information and instead put out reviews complaining about the features not working.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 probably should of ignored the demand , waited and got their features working or at least have it performing as it was advertised because now their brand has been bashed. It’s all well and good waiting for features but this is different, it wasn’t performing as per its specifications and flight characteristics. It was essentially false advertising
@@mharro88 Yup, this is exactly why the DJI MAVIC 3 has so much hate… exact same reasons. I would not be surprised if we see the same thing with the Mini 3 (early launch with not all features working and specs changing). DJI just did the same with the Ronin 4D… specs received are not what was originally advertised. This is now the new normal.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 fair enough I didn’t know DJI were bringing their latest products to the market with specs changing … I thought it was just features that hadn’t arrived yet. I wouldn’t be spending 3k AUD for their flagship drones if that’s the the case.

Hey Captain drone can you review the kf102 drone?it has gimbal on it
Keeping cool is your New motto. Good stuff. 👍👍
Looks like it improved a lot Steve!
Finally got my Nano+ in after some shipping mix up! Would love to repurpose old Parrot hard case for the Nano premium package,
but can't find new foam liner at reasonable price. (12x9x4)
Any ideas? Thanks
The case for my NANO+ in this video is repurposed. I just chopped up a piece of hard foam. Check AMAZON for foam inserts that you can cut to size.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you!
Good morning great video enjoy the. Weekend
Great drone and camera on it. One thing I can't wait for Autel to update is HDR and 10bit color,as that would be top
i thought this drone did quite well, maybe the price would be decisive as everyone seems to compare it with DJI - as far as camera drones go i am eyeballing that crazy 360 drone reviewed not long ago - no RC snowblower ?! !
Looks like Autel is getting ready too for the coming of the Mini 3! I can't wait to see comparisons of the 2 drones!
Mini 3 Pro is here! Camera quality is matched with great flight performance which seems to be missing in Autel. They tend to focus too much on image quality and needs to improve more on other aspects.
Great video! Sweet drone, wish I could afford it, lol. Remarkably stable, great picture quality. You’re a great pilot, thanks! 👍👍
Always enjoyable videos. I love my Nano plus. It may need some updates along with time for autel to get this little guy where it's supposed to be. Thank you. 😊
Top flight review. Lovely images (even with the jello). I am loving the explanatory effects.
Captain, Do you think Autel firmware updates will work on the Nano plus ability to bypass obstacles better?
The last firmware I installed did not have the BYPASS option, unless the drone was in TRACK mode, but even then it was not near as good as the DJI BYPASS.
You should come visit (us in) Arizona in winter, so your drones and yourself don't freeze!
Great improvements but still leaving some issues. This will give DJI a good benchmark for the Mini 3.
You are correct. Once the Mini 3 is launched, the camera of the mini 3 will be compared to that of the Nano+.
Just a thought, for when you need to mention wind, maybe use a chalk puffer or just grass or dirt. It might help visualise for us viewers.
The improvements keep coming. Very nice review
Thanks Captain
You mentioned in the last video there was no fpv until take off has this changed?
You are thinking of the HUBSAN ZINO PRO perhaps? And that is because the HUBSAN ZINO PRO has no FAN and can overheat. The EVO NANO has a fan, so no issue. To keep the sensors cool when the props are not running, the NANO reduces the vid signal/resolution until you take off.
Nice one..just curious to knw do u ever go out of your town or country to fly drones???
Yes, watch my older vids prior to COVID
Do you know if the regular nano has obstacle avoidance? Some say say some say no. I’m so confused. Great video
Regular NANO is the same as the NANO+.... Only difference is the camera. The NANO camera is not as amazing in low light or night.
Nice job Steve DJI will have to up there next Mini 3 model.
What SD Card do you you recommend for the Nano Plus? Mine arrives next week. Thank You for the reviews.
I use a SANDISK U3 64 gig with no issues
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks very much. I'm in Ottawa nice to have found your channel.
@@RossOnTheLand Always nice to have a local neighbour visiting the channel
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I make tractor UA-cam content so the drone will be used to film epic aerial footage, and this replaces my Parrot BeBop 2. Have a great week.
From what I have seen in some of your videos, the sensors stop you from getting closer than 5 meters to an object. Can the sensors be turned off?
Also, can the voice alerts be muted?
Voice alerts are muted by turning the volume off on your phone (I don't recall if there is an on/off option). Sensors can be turned off.
Thanks!
If you can figure out 40% of the interface, that is usually enough to get flying.
when will dynamic track come out? And does it have something like spotlight ?
End February is the expected launch
Can you add some sample raw pics and videos for cloud to check out quality?
Just email me, and I'll send you the JPG photo I took in this video.
How to buy this evo autel
I like your video... Have a question any solutions to using a Tripltek 8" with the autel nano controller ?
You'd need to get yourself the PGYTECH tablet mount
Hard to beat the success of the Mini 2 when we’re talking about mini drones, price and performance wise. All the more I know Mini 3 is going to be more successful. I’m going to wait for its launch before I decide. Keeping my Mini 2 in the meantime.
Now that the Mini 3 is out, which one would you pick: Autel Evo Nano + or Mini 3 Pro? (Or even another drone in this weight segment?) -of course, the mini 3 Pro has better features- but if one wants to spend less than 700€ Euros..?
@@niklasl4942 Im curious too!
Hey Steve like always another good video talking about drones and how they changed a few things and made them better all that kind of stuff and I’m always envious of you having all the cool toys keep doing what you do man
Thank you
Hi Boy it’s been warm Ha ha i find all of your video’s quite informative for me this drone is a bit out of my price range.
The FIMI is looking for a ROUND CIRCLE target that is visible compare to the ground
Does it go around objects as it's flying?
Only when DYNAMIC TRACK is active
Hi, when I connect the remote control Nano+ to my mobile phone, it
charges continuously. The remote control then discharges in an hour. How
do I turn off cell phone charging?
You must have an ANDROID phone right? it is an ANDROID operating system issue.
I'm in Ottawa so one of the many Jeep/Chrysler dealers
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 lol sorry I meant where did you buy your AUTEL drone from. I think Siri changed my first comment from AUTEL to Auto…
@@jeepmancam4205 My NANO+ came from RCGOING way back in early January. They were one of the first to have them in stock and plentiful.
So which is best... the new Mavic 3 or the Autel? That's the big question surely?
Mavic 3 CINE for certain.... Now get your wallet out and fork over the $5000 US for it. :-)
I feel like it is fair to say that Dji is no longer the obvious choice in drones !! :) Great vids man keep it up :))!!!
The USA Government is not impressed with DJI drones and has banned them for business and government use, which allows companies like AUTEL to gain some ground.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ohh wow so how about Canada, how are these companies doing in Canada (cause I’m Canadian)
@@mad547s8 Canada is too busy with other issues to pay much attention to drones. Transport Canada looks at that portion. So Canadian governments can buy DJI drones if they wish.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that’s so cool thanks man you’re amazing
Lol. Nice Drone. Stuttery video. I prefer my old Mavic 2 Zoom. Buttersmooth video controll and zooming. This is all “digital” garbage. Stay mechanical. You won’t regret it!
Are there aftermarket lights i could add to the arms, or body?
Yes, but that may affect the sub 250 grams weight
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 any you recommend?
I wish to have that kind of drone very cool!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you so much, absolutely love your channel!!

That’s a nice improvement. I heard the hubsan had released their firmware update for zino mini pro’s smart features and filming. Maybe you can test that.
Excellent follow up review!
Wish I have one.
Nice, funny and informative video! Go, go Captain Drone!
It’s a great camera no doubt, but Mavic 3. Nah.
great video again - THX! - Any chance to get a comparison of Nano and Nano plus camera?
I have asked AUTEL to send me the base NANO.... If one shows up, I'll show the comparison.
Always great reviews and again thanks for freezing your nuts off to bring us theses 💯 percent reviews 👍👍👍👍👍
No calibration was done to any part of the drone after the updates. It may help.
Didn't you hear? All that huge amount of thick snow is global warming, LOL
@@retromodernart4426 this is the enigma isn't it :-)
Are the evo drones hand catchable? I don't surface land unless its windy
Yes, any drone with props shorter than arm length is hand catchable.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 awesome! I gotta save up
Where did you get that Autel nano case?
It is just a repurposed case from another product. I just cut out the internal foam to make a spot for the Nano items.
It had to keep improving . It wasn’t working as advertised out of the box and they deserved criticism for it
The drone was scheduled to launch in mid February 2023, however due to demand, Autel did like DJI and launched it before it was ready, but told everyone that all features would be added by end February.
How come all the drones I buy have drift (sometimes fixable w/trim), but all the drones in your videos hover in place?
This is because you are buying your drones from WALMART for $20. GPS Camera Drones don't drift and you NEVER use TRIM on a drone. TRIM is for the RC Plane hobby.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798
