Mansion Revitalization: Expanding the Bunker

- Between May and October 2023, work began at Mount Vernon to expand the current mechanical systems bunker as part of the Mansion Revitalization Project.
The expansion was dug next to the existing bunker to provide additional space for mechanical systems that will supply more capacity for environmental control of zones with the new HVAC system. This will include, for the first time, climate control in the Mansion’s cellar.
Thank you for taking such efforts to protect the mansion.. artifacts from pending disaster and to provide a comfortable environment for visitors to enjoy... Also.. for doing it in such a way as to preserve the historic view...
The video is void of info. Why are they doing this? What exactly is this bunker? Some background would be helpful to the lay public.
it's clearly a central utility plant. it gets the existing MEP/FLS out of historic mansion spaces and into a new structure so that the mansion (see: the basement) can be restored and preserved for future generations. frankly, i can't wait to see the mansion without the massive HVAC units, pumps, feeders, etc.
Why can't you just leave the property as it is? Why do you have to keep adding and adding??
I believe it's to house HVAC systems to update climate control of the mansion so it SURVIVES through the century from weather-related degradation. Proactively investing in the mansion's upkeep for future generations ARE what George would approve, trust me 🇺🇸
I agree. Historical preservation is just that. Conservation is fine to keep something from deteriorating but expanding on the monument is like adding the Mona Lisa painting by a master painter.
Perhaps fire suppression systems to save the mansion and climate control systems so children and elderly folk won't be sweating into their shoes in August or freezing in January would be nice... Not to mention climate control to preserve the priceless artifacts in the mansion... This is a no brainer...
@@WildwoodCastle what I see here is much more than fire suppression and climate control systems. I've seen those put put in the Vatican and Tower of Pisa but they didn't destroy the look of those original structures.
