- Anime title: Vinland Saga Season 2
Episode: 20
Premiere: January 10, 2023
Ketil and his men are helplessly defeated by the overwhelming power of Canute’s army.
However, Thorgil, who looks for Canute’s head, launches an independent surprise attack and the battle is temporarily interrupted.
Thorfinn and Einar headed for the ship, but Arnheid regains consciousness and expresses her gratitude to them.
#VinlandSaga
I feel so bad for Arnheid. She was raped by Ketil, lost a child twice. Still she never stopped smiling, and making the best of such a tragic situation. She was a victim.
“What is left for me to live for” saddest line ever.
She also lost Gardar twice... Once when he went mad only for him to die not long after they're reunited. Like these two deserve better.
I feel so bad for the people who said this season was bad. They really missed out on an amazing story
They said that because they only like fights
The people who thought this was bad didn't grow up enough to appreciate how much Thorfin has grown.
It's not a matter of opinion or taste; it's a matter of maturity.
@@Thescott16not really a matter of maturity. Some people just find constant talking boring. I don’t wanna watch a lecture every episode. It’s not exciting or fun.
@@godschild4332what’s crazy to me was (as someone who is not a big anime head and DID start watching vinland for the action sequences) i did not find S2 that jarring. i loved it. and there was action!
Those are just shounen brainrots who can't go an episode without action scene, they should keep watching their MHA, Demon Slayer JJK or whatever
When Arnheid says that there is no reason for her to go on living since everyone she loves has died really made Thorfin understand more the pain that he has caused to the families of the people he has killed… this scene was so sad but an amazing scene.
Really disrespectful of Netflix to make Einar say, "I really like you a lot!" Instead of "I love you!" Kind of completely screwed up that entire scene.
Netflix does has some weird translations lines. I feel like they see what Crunchyroll has and switches them so they are not the same as them
Crunchyroll subs are better imo
I actually didn’t mind that at all
It's when they mirror translate Japanese instead of putting the meaning into context.
@@rinber13 talking about Netflix translation?
For an anime that isnt a romance this is the most tragic yet romantic scene ive watched
Thorfinn telling Arnheid his father's words, like he did in s1 to the slave girl who he talked to saying "if I were a slave I'd kill everyone chasing after me, but I'll never be one" will always be one of my favourite parallels in manga
@Notícias do Flamengo com Flamenguista Sincerão you should still try to watch it anyways. It's hard to get past the pain and suffering, but once you do, you can see how truly beautiful this piece of work is.
Personally, I think that's what makes this arc so good, moreso the dialogue + character building but I'm glad that the author highlights how horrible slavery was for victims of Pillaging/War (it was definitely 1000x worse than depicted but it's an anime so yeah). I'm not a smart person but it really had me thinking a lottt about how i view or react to things while also getting me interested in learning more about history outside of my culture.
You know Thors would’ve been so proud of him at this moment
I think its disgusting that there are some people who say she deserved it all because she tried to abandon a man what was 'kind' to her, yet they forget that she was forced to be there as a slave and was raped by that "kind man" she was not happy, she had to go through the pain of loosing a child twice, i understand this was a different time period but it doesn't change the tragedy of her life
Ketil was a a mentally unstable man.
I keep reading this thing in the comment section regarding Arnheid and I still never find the supposed comments you keep repeating about. Literally noone said she deserves this, wtf?
@luigil8439 Oh trust him there were definitely comments about her being in the wrong. I don't blame you for not believing it at first.

I wish I could learn to manage my anger like Thorofin. I want to.
Thorfinn went through hell to learn
you can do it
You'll have to suffer a lot. Break down you psyche to the point of tireness and disgust at the mere thought of violence. Make all the traumatic experience and shadows of the past work for you. This is how Thorfin has acquired it. And it still won't be pretty when you will be done.
I am not saying I would be as violent as Thorofin was in the past, I want to reach a better state of mind before I inflict hell on others rather. Is not about me but not harming the people around e
You can lol. You need to tell yourself anger is bad at your weakest state , whenever state you are in. Reject anger. Stay quiet. Do something else. It helps me lol.
Holy shit. This entire scene hurts physically and mentally.
It's so terribly sad. She suffered so much.
I have just come back to watch this scene, it still hurts physically and mentally.

The unfairness of it all, in regards to Arnheid's story, really hits like a brick. Although I knew they wouldn't, a part of me hoped she'd live in the anime, because reading the manga was heart breaking enough.
This anime hits harder than Thorfin's punches I swear it... Can everyone in the world please start watching this masterpiece? Even the word masterpiece falls short with Vinland Saga.
Only if you ask it nicely. You are too angry right now
@@visitante-pc5zc I thought his request was firm but fair. It was emphatic due to the urgency.
He even said please.
Have you seen an angry person before? They yell and curse. Shit i probably sound angry. Maybe i'm frustrated - I'm sorry man. The important thing is we get word out about this.
Then, maybe... just MAYBE, we can learn what it means to be a TRUE warrior.
They really shouldn't, not everyone can grasp the idea that just because a show doesn't have much action, that doesn't mean it's not good. There are also those that misinterpret the message of the show, or just straight up not understand it, like they're watching it, but all of the words that the characters are saying just passes from one ear to another without their brains processing them. I would rather have people who can actually enjoy and understand the show to watch it, than a bunch of randos to watch and not enjoy it afterwards. Granted, vinland saga is not perfect by any means, no show is. But most of the lessons that were displayed in the show can be applied in real life.
nah the second season anime is objectevly bad though. season 1 was good but dont bother with second season anime it really is low budget and lazy with bad animations and voice acting
manga much better
So which is worse the slave master of that woman or Potiphar(Bible/Dreamworks)?
I just saw this clip. No idea what is going on.
Loved how Thorfinn loved Chest compression from his dad in first episode whenever he tried to save the slave that escape from Halfdan.
More proof Thordfinn is becoming like Thors, bringing back people from death instead of killing them
Everyone gangster, till someone says “far to the west…”
"Across The sea"
When Einar was expressing his love for Arnheid while the music was playing was absolute perfection. So emotional and real. I get chills when I watch this
I straight up broke down at that part. 😢
@@danwright4384 it was such a powerful scene !
Gardar & Arnheid's deaths hit my feels harder than any death in fiction. No other tragic death made me feel that
I can't tell if I cried more here or in Million Dollar Baby, but I could fill a bathub with my tears for sure😆
I was glad when garder finally died bro took up too much screen time
not only her death, but her fate before the death as well. Her traumatic experience with losing her child, her almost joyless life on the farm, her being a mistress to her master who was emotionally attached to her. Her meeting her husband again, opening all her wounds and having to make peace with his death, and experiencing a bit of hope of gaining freedom with her husband and a new kid on the way, only to lose it again....I don´t think anything I watched touched me more than Arheid´s story
All my homies hate Ketil
“Should’ve let einar do it. It would’ve been satisfying.” That’s the problem. It ain’t solving things. It’ll just be momentary satisfaction. Killing ketil is like granting him mercy. “Let’s off ketil so he won’t have to pay debt and bear burden for the rest of his life! Because momentary satisfaction is more important than anything!”
“Those who live by the sword will die by the sword.”
Sometimes you gotta take the bad apples away from the healthy ones. In this time period revenge was one of the few ways to do that.
(The manga vinland saga talks about that specifically not sure if they will cover that in the anime)
I'm pretty sure he would prefer to be alive and just to pay off debts and deal with burdens.
The point it seems to be heading towards becoming a true warrior by having something to protect
@@def3ndr887that’s the thing: ketil NEVER lived by the sword. He was an old fool who let his ego become his undoing.
@@KingSlimeProductions but once you kill someone you don’t get to walk away without suffering the consequences. Thorfinn is a great example of that.

Honestly if it’s pain einars looking to inflict, killing ketil is the easy way out for him. With ketil alive he gets to see everything he worked for fall apart and live with the guilt of killing the one of the few people who he loved
It's not, have you not been paying attention to the message of the show? Violence begets more violence.
If someone hits you in the face, then you give flowers to him.
Yeah. That sounds about right
Ketil deserves to live destitute, broken, and without any workers left. He deserves to live with the guilt.
Death would be too easy on him. Snake also says this.

I am dedicating my life to helping the poor, weak and the oppressed. I have helped people before but as I ponder recently, the way to change the world is to create a system where people work, love, take care and help each other. Make a community of God fearing, loving people. I'm saving some money again to apply to make a church based on prayer and works, where we make livelihood for every member and bring them closer to God by living a holy and loving life.
Nah garbage people will always exist whatever you do.
@@zekeyeager8574 True, but there would be less evil people if you give people hope, love and livelihood. All we want in life is peace, harmony, livelihood and a worthwile goal. 2:41 in my eyes this scene truly represents that areheid really did love einar. Both lost their families and homes to war and Vikings, both almost gave up on freedom, both found love and joy talking to each other and expressing themselves each morning. The viking age is truly cruel time period. Einar and Arnheid forever💔😭
Realmente arnehid amaba a gardar Einar merece algo mejor aunque el personaje de arnehid me gusta
Einar is such a good reflection of who thorfinn used to be
The way the music swelled at 4:05 to 5:10 was POWERFUL! The amount of weight it added to the scene of her dying was incredible.
I was breathing heavily at that moment, it felt like i lost my mother once again 😭
The best episode of the series along with season 1 last episode
Killing that bastard would just be giving him mercy. No…I want him to suffer from the guilt.
yeah when i first saw this i was thinking maybe waking his ass off and show him what he had just done and rubbed it in his face is enough...even if he'll do later on he'll still suffer for it anyway....
poor Arnheid first her son Hjalti is dead, second her husband Gardar dies and third her unborn child dies from miscarriage through the beating she sustained from Ketil and herself too damn things are in fact being taken away from her this woman deserved a better life even if she did lived to see vinland herself she would not be the same as she once was because of everything she lost herself and possibly she would have allowed her friends Thorfinn and Einar to build a village after her regardless but for her unborn child to be born in this world on that land then pretty much she could've had a second chance at living a better life it would've been a start thought but no things that are most important to her are being taken away just to make herself look miserable to anyone else around her she deserved better than this hell hole she's been put through.
I hate Ketil with passion

Arnheid's VA really did a great job in this scene, it's like i witness her dying moment myself. It seems like she rarely doing VA job tho

@@claymalthus9534 i mean technically those farmers chose their path. they owed money to Ketil. He didnt force them to fight. Alls he said was he will clear the debt. Thats on them for choosing that path. If anything, the only real crimes Ketil has done was killing Arnheid and raping her. But yea dying is a mercy for him.
I mean Snake was right there. Worst case is Einar gets killed before even laying a hand on him. What Thorfinn did was the right call
It's time...for Thorfinn😭
One of the most iconic and memorable anime scenes of all time. Vinland saga is truly a classic!
I've never seen anything like it. I'm so glad I found this masterpiece
Now i really understand why thors insisted on freeing that slave while he knew that he's gonna die 💔
She wasn't given a choice in the matter, yet she possessed a gentle soul right from the beginning. When I discovered she was carrying Ketil's child, I thought Einar would've moved on, but instead of being devastated, he looked beyond his own heartache and realized that none of it was her fault and she had no control over the circumstances. Not once did she display anger or remorse; she embodied qualities that Thorfinn and Einar wished they possessed from the start. They want to fight for people that are like her, which is why I think she is regarded as "The Symbol of Tranquility".
I remember when thorfinn asked what’s the point in living and now it gets said back to him. Just hits
So do you like spoilers?

Thorkell is going to avenge us all. Thorkell is the best. Thorkell is GOD
To be honest I don't know what to think about Arnheid as a character or the message Yukimura tries to tell through her.
We see a young a preatty woman, in a terrible place (we must not forget she is a slave), whose house was once destroyed, his only child murdered, because slave women were more valuables like that, separated from his husband, forced to work, beaten by Ketil's wife, and forced to be a sexual slave too, which probably is the most disturbing thing; and despite all that she tries to live without hate and the best she can. Ok, you can think, this is a lesson to Einar who is still trapped by his past, a very similar one that Einar himself suffered. "Just move on", seems to tell Arnheid with her submissive behavior, but at the same time (in the manga is more explicit) you can see clearly that empty expression while she is naked (portraying her vulnerability) and listening to Ketil's most intimate feelings. The girl clearly doesn't want to be there but as a slave has no choice; she only does what she is command to, submissive and even trying to be "happy" with that, she tries to survive without hurting anyone but deep down she knows the truth of her reality ""I felt like I was wandering through a terrible nightmare all alone" are almost her last words. And at the end for what?, beaten to death by the same man who raped her when he pleases and for a escape she didn't even plan. Was Gardar's, his husband trying to free her.
I know Einar loves her and he wants to keep her memory in Vinland but I am not quite sure if she is a good example for living or developing a new world. Thorfinn inner fight is really touching but I hope the author is not telling that wars and slavery are terrible and the only "choice" is to be like Arnheid or Thorfinn, because in reality that's terrible, basically is to say "ok, the force is the only thing that matters at the end and if you lose, deal with it, don't even try to fight back because is gonna be worse".
In that case, I preffer Canute inner battle, much more darker but at least he knows to be good, have a golden heart or to pray is not enough.
I don't think Arnheid is meant to be "the right way" - she dies after all. She's another example of viking life destroying someone's happiness, one more person for who Thorfinn will go to Vinland and try another way. If there's any lesson here, I feel it's this: this life, this system will crush you, even if you accept it/submit to it. If you fight back you're perpetuing it (they will answer with more violence), if you accept it you'll suffer.
I don't know if you're anime only, so I won't say too much. But Thorfinn does come up with a solution for this whole dilemna.
@@mio2466 That's a really good answer Arnheid represents the acceptance of the injustice but I am worried but like you said that is not the solution.
War and slaveryare terrible and Canute is just as bad a his father.
@@mray4784 Well I still believe there is still some of Ragnar and Willibald inside his heart. His father gived a shit if Canute had to die to avoid inner conflicts in Denmark, Canute in the other side feels regrets and his father’s head hauted him like Thorfinn’s nightmares from the past. He represents a change from the old ways but that doesn’t mean he is going to be able to change the world with a clap of his fingers, he can’t. The speech about stopping the waves (which is based in a “real” Canute story) serves to portrait that. He needs to get his hands dirty to get the goal in that system and he knows it.
The real Canute, called The Great, was indeed the uniter between England, Vikings Kingoms and an powerful ally with Rome. His historical figure is key of the disolution of the old Vikings world. And I think this is Canute’s destiny in Vinland Saga, to end the circle of invasions and slavery but from the opposite perspective than Thorfinn. And probably he is going to suffer for that.
Her situation puts Ketil's character into a whole different light, without her people would perceive him as the happy-go-lucky landowner who allows slaves to buy themselves freedom because he's "nice". Imo Arnheid and Gardar's story is the reality check that these people's lives were really this horrible. They had no options, no free will at all, it was just pure exploitation. She's a catalyst at further motivating Thorfinn and Einar towards looking for a peaceful land. I think this is also the reason why they name their Vinland settlement after her.
Anyone know the OST that plays at 5:42 ??
Chick had all the simps
To think it Arnheid just didn't step out of that tent that night none of this would have happened
I am glad she did that! Mean gardar is her husband! And. Nobody love slavery
You mean by lying to herself about the feelings she clearly still had for her husband and by shutting up and allowing Ketil and Snake's men to run her life forever...yeah none of this would have happened but it would have perpetuated an unjust system that made her life a nightmare.
Could have aleast let him get a few shots in that would have been satisfying
