This is the absolute perfect sport - it has everything...unbelievably skill, incredible courage, honesty (no diving or cheating), character, sportsmanship and loyalty...you play for the team where you're born and never for money. All these guys are amateur and have day jobs but train 5 or 6 times a week - the commitment is astonishing. This is the way sport should be. Brilliant video too! Fair play to ya Eamonn.

Aerosmith The best if you pay them u take away the pride and love of playing. we have 32 counties its all about the pride of playing for your county once you start buying players they wont be playing for their counties anymore and what supporters would watch a game where they arent even their own real teamates from that county because for the supporters theres no real pride in winning after that

This is one of the best videos on UA-cam. Excellently edited and compiled, with music that matches the pace and enough commentary to show the urgency. In all my years of trying to explain hurling to the uninitiated worldwide, nothing has summarised it as well as this video.

I have to say I am not much into modern music, but the sound track is superb with this video.
It helps make the game fluid and alive. It takes me back to my younger days. Playing, watching, and dreaming of going to the all Ireland finals. No other game compares. Playing or watching is a thrill that connects me with my heritage. its a pity I am older and will never see that dream come true.Still I love to watch every minute of every match at any level.

The main rules centre on handling the ball
.First one is the ball can not be touched on the ground with the hand or lifted with the hand
.The second is you can only handle the ball twice in the one possession
Thirdly you can run with ball in hand for more than 4 steps after that you can either pass it or carry the ball on the stick all the way.
You can hand pass providing its not the third handling of the ball and its slapped not thrown with the hand
the taking of frees which the ball is placed on the ground then lifted with the stick and thrown upwards with out the hands and struck with the hurley
.They last rule is no offside except the goal square. There are many more but these are the key ones

In Senior County Hurling, there are two half's of 35 minutes each (Full match 70 mins plus 1 or 2 mins injury time added), in other matches two half's of 30 mins (60 mins total plus injury time)
The stick is a Hurley (Camán) or Hurl for short (made from an ash tree), the ball is a Sliotar (the inside used to be made of horse hair & the outer skin calf leather, but now the Sliotar is has a cork centre and white tanned pig skin outer). The women (& girls) play Camogie, they are called Camog's. The men (& boys) are called Hurlers.
The Senior All Ireland Hurling Final is usually held on the first Sunday in September (two weeks before the All Ireland Football Final).

To anyone outside Ireland who's interested, hurling semi-final on Sunday 5th August (Clare v Galway), and final on Sunday 19th.
The All-Ireland Final will be between the winner of Sunday's (replay) match, and Limerick.
Find an Irish bar near you (with real Irish people, I mean), and they'll either be showing the matches themselves or will be able to give you information.
Or do an Internet search for "GAA hurling" plus your location.
Most big cities around the world with Irish communities, especially the English-speaking world, have GAA clubs where you'll be welcome to watch.

We do play in the U.S., even if it's not televised. All amateur, but the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) is the main sanctioning bodies. In Flagstaff, Arizona, for instance, we have a team of former high school football players, rugby, soccer, baseball, etc. players that have morphed their skills and do the best we can. The guys in this video are phenomenal, but the GAA has different divisions (we're in C) and it's an absolute blast.
