To anyone outside Ireland who's interested, hurling semi-final on Sunday 5th August (Clare v Galway), and final on Sunday 19th. The All-Ireland Final will be between the winner of Sunday's (replay) match, and Limerick. Find an Irish bar near you (with real Irish people, I mean), and they'll either be showing the matches themselves or will be able to give you information. Or do an Internet search for "GAA hurling" plus your location. Most big cities around the world with Irish communities, especially the English-speaking world, have GAA clubs where you'll be welcome to watch.
We do play in the U.S., even if it's not televised. All amateur, but the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) is the main sanctioning bodies. In Flagstaff, Arizona, for instance, we have a team of former high school football players, rugby, soccer, baseball, etc. players that have morphed their skills and do the best we can. The guys in this video are phenomenal, but the GAA has different divisions (we're in C) and it's an absolute blast.

@nirvanafan7777 It's about the same size, weight and hardness as a baseball. It has a cork core, surrounded by layers of string and with a leather cover.
There is no Time for placing Adds in the game. And the the playtime is too long for the american audience. I think thats why it will never get the attention like baseball or other american games.
Man, I wish this game took off in Australia instead of boring cricket and field hockey. And I wish gaelic football took off here instead of Aussie Rules. That way, we would need no ovals, only an abundance of Football sized fields to play loads of Football, Rugby, Rugby League, Gaelic Football and Hurling. We also have the Irish heritage. Hurling: the only other sport that Canadian hockey players can respect.

So much in fact that a lot of the rules are the same/similar to hockey.
this is rad and if i ever go to Ireland i am 100% going to see it
Hurling, rugby, and Australian rules football all need to be televised in America.
You can leave rugby and aussie rules out, just hurling and gaelic football. Not that i have anything against those sports just doing my patriotic duty as an irishman
Hell yeah
AFL is on in America now on fox sports one. Problem is games start at 10:30 pm at the earliest. Most at 1 am or later. There's a new US rugby league called the NRL, just completed its first season.

First time I saw hurling was back when ESPN was a real sports channel, I thought it was awesome . . . and bloody dangerous. Wish we could watch it here in USA.
That looks like fun but super intense.
Great Video, depicts all the skills, pace and brilliance of the game... lovely compilation, well done-
Played hurling and gaelic football growing up, better at the latter but hurling is my favourite sport. Skill, coordination and bravery and it's all amateur. Hope it stays that way. C'mon Cork!
Up the Rebels!
Go Dublin!
I guess the Irish are old fashioned and stuck on the past. This sport should be banned
@@ruadhansavage2738 it's very dangerous. for neandrathals. i guess some people don't want to evolve.
@@nofurtherwest3474 please stop talking. Children play this sport and basically never get hurt. As long as you are wearing a helmet you would be fine. Sure you would get hurt every once in a while. But that's part of every sport.
I'm playing this for the first time today! I'm pumped.
Best game in the world
Bar none
Wish that game was here in the states when I was young - I would have loved to have played it.
Wow, and I thought the NHL was fast and dangerous, and demanding!!
And these guys are amateur. They do it for love of the sport and pride in the village/town/county they come from. Wonderful game.
captainbackflash Wow, you really took my comment out of context. It was NOT a comparison.
Ok, then I am sorry for my comment.
Cú Chulainn Thank you and yes, I was referring to ice hockey ... NHL specifically, but it is a very tough sport no matter the league. Lifelong NHL fan here.
Angel Deville They are both unique, difficult, and tough in their respective ways, and the rules haven't been softened too much over the years compared to others.
Hurling is a mad game played by madmen ...but we all love it ...there's nothing to compare with a good hurling match....followed by a heartfelt Sliabh na mBan, Rose of Mooncoin, Boolavogue or ''The Banks''. ...these players give us so much ..for small reward......that they may never die!!
"Hurling hasn't been toned down or tamed "
I'm pretty sure it was tone down when the rules were introduced.
Coolest game ever! Love from KY in the USA from Londonderry in 16-- something.
Derry
Derry
I've often seen fellas come out of a farmers field playing this game with broken fingers and bruised ribs, and then I see crazy bastards playing this with no helmets...
Helmets where optional but now u have to
Sean O'Donoghue hate wearing it
+Feidhelm Ó Foghladha in fairness ya should be used to it by now, been compulsery for like 3 years...
IrishRed 10
When I played barely no one wore a helmet. I don't know but I think it would take a while getting used to playing with a helmet.
This game is insanely cool.
thats like rugby, martial arts and quidditch 😂
Wow, Have been seeing alot of this in recent weeks. Looks like an amazing sport.
Goodbye to a great hurler
Henry Shefflin.
Now Retired
He’s still spoken about in Kilkenny where I am
Hurling is the game of the gods Brad. The greatest of all.
Skills of baseball = catching a ball with an ungloved hand. Makes sense
+zc630 thecreator of this video was trying to make appealing to ye soft bastards
+Zombie Jesus exactly
Thurman Merman you what
Great video. I knew nothing about this sport, or that it even existed 5:22 ago. Now I get the gist of it.
hockey on 'roids, I dig it
@87images1 no, its pretty different from field hockey bc its mostly played in the air (where field hockey is played mostly on the grass)
Just trying to learn about my Irish heritage✌️
Your ancestors would’ve played this in training for war during the Celtic period although it’s obviously not gonna be played like it was during Celtic times they had been safety added cus too many people were getting killed
@kwarren8
I wish you all the best, in promoting the most majestic game on the planet. I am getting on now and not as fit as i used to be, when I was in my teens i was involved in many sports . Fencing, running, swimming, cycling, boxing, and many more but the only team sport I loved was hurling. All other team sports come a poor second in my opinion. Also as sport to watch, it never mattered which teams were playing, it was always glorious, and still my favorite of all sports.
Best Fucking Sport In The World
Ned Fitz I agree plus I'm irish
do you play it?
Tiarnan Bonnes yeah
what team
I play for tir na Og
Still the best Hurling video on Utube , AWESOME !!!!
looks like a lot of potential for extreme pain from that ball.
you dont get hit with the ball that often but you always get a whack in the shin and thats what hurts
you kinda learn to take it
I met this guy in Mendoza, Argentina that was carrying one on his backback. I've never seen one before being Canadian, Thought it was pretty bad ass. After seeing the video. He is so much more badass.
Those are some NBA three steps those players are taking
+Ronnie Strickland Yes the three step rule is very loosely enforced generally speaking.
+Ronnie Strickland lol it's actually 4 steps the vid is wrong, but even so, there is over-carrying alright. A good ref will keep the game flowing they say :)
I am here because I was playing trivia om my phone and received a question about what is the fastest game on grass, and it is hurling, but I hear this for the very first time. It looks really cool and dangerous. these guys have balls to play this.
Cool looking sport. My only criticism is that I think a nice heavy metal riff would better capture the intensity of the sport rather than the cheesy techno.
Paul TheSkeptic but the goalkeeper... he has the most pointless job in the world
@nirvanafan7777 It's about the same size, weight and hardness as a baseball. It has a cork core, surrounded by layers of string and with a leather cover.
I would imagine this sport sees a lot of broken hand and finger bones, probably noses as well.
No broken noses because we have to wear a helmet with a face guard now but lots of broken fingers
This is so cool! I wish we had this sport where I live.
God I wish theyd bring this to the US....
There are clubs all over the US, most of which encourage newcomers to come out and try the game.
There is no Time for placing Adds in the game. And the the playtime is too long for the american audience. I think thats why it will never get the attention like baseball or other american games.
captainbackflash a hurling game is 70 minutes. How is that long compared to american football?
2-3 hours for American Football
"the playtime is too long for the american audience."
How?
always thought it was the best game in the world but having seen your video, now I'm convinced
@floppyhoop You're right. It's such a fast paced game that I think I was missing the quick transfers from stick to hand...even in slow motion.
Thanks for your reply.
they should give the goalies some padding because that ball looks like it would hurt like hell if it hit you.
it does hurt like hell, i got knocked out by a hurling ball that my friend hit at me from like 20 yards lol
***** well there is rule now that every player must wear a helmet because a very serious accident happened as u may already know.
***** i guess its down to luck
***** It does hurt like hell, I speak from personal experience but trust me Hurling is a fantastic sport, not for the faint hearted!
Jonathan Po True Dat
This looks awesomely brutal
