    How can a hospital deny a woman who is in labor? Labor is an emergency. It's life and death. This is unbelievable.

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 7 років тому +14

      Probably they wouldn't send them away if they showed up at the hospital and they were already visibly near the end of labour but there would be no staff specially trained. It would be just the emergency room staff I guess?

      Too painful to sit like that during the contractions that slowly open the cervix. Just get onto your knees in loose clothing without underwear.

      My entire labor was spent sitting in the car... I was going into the hos[ital for a checkup appointment at 3:30 and she was born at 3:27, ten minutes after arriving at the hospital. I went into labor basically as we were leaving and it was a 2 hour drive. If not for having the appointment my baby would have been born at home or in the car.,

    This happens here in Norway too. My mum had to go in an ambulance for 2 1/2 hours to the nearest hospital. She nearly died the one time from extreme blood loss... They call the hospital the slaughter house... Says it all really. Not only that but from September to late May you can expect extreme snow storms over the mountains, and they therefore close roads for some time! They are still denying to build a hospital closer to the area.

    Some women can give birth up to 1 hour or quicker before they start going into labor...I started around 930...he came at 10.40 he was a day from a month early...it could have went terrible...I didn't even make it to a hospital because I didn't exactly know what was happening because it it was my first time and my mom could never have kids...I was adopted...I barley made it 2 miles to my doctors office I was there for like 10 minuets 5 pushes and he came...I almost had him in the car....this is a terrible situation to put a mother in or anyone in..

    This happened in my town in America, they closed the maternity ward after the new hospital was built . Most births now have to be scheduled ahead of time and induced in nearby towns/city. Ambulance drivers deliver more babies now because they don't make it in time.

      Mandi Mine as well, as did all the surrounding rural hospitals. Almost 2 hours to get to a maternity ward. They don't actually have much left in our rural hospitals. They have the ER and a few beds due to a mandate of how many miles can be in between emergency rooms. Basically they evaluate patients and send them elsewhere if it is anything serious.

    This is super crazy smh... to hope to make it to your perferred/assigned hospital before a baby arrives is one thing but to close down the already limited maternity wards is just dumb... when i was about to have our 4th baby i barely made it to the hospital(i had her in less than 20 mins after arrival) and we lived less than 15 mins away. If my hubby had to drive me almost 2 hrs she definately wouldve been born in the car.

    Why they don't ask for a clinic i don't know what to call the mini hospital that offers basic health care.. But a clinic for delivery in their own town..? Only 2 delivery rooms and 3 couveuse, you'll need one doctor and 2 midwife or 1 not more, we had such thing in faraway countries that suffered from the same problem.. The mini hospital has nurses and doctors , ER first line treatment too is provided such as suturing and stopping a bleed.. Really saved time and money and lives.

      D S This is not "normal" in the U.S. In the U.S. couples don't get a course on how to deliver a baby in a car. In the U.S. a woman might hive birth in a car if she is rushing to the hospital. There are maternity wards in every hospital. There is a wide support system in the U.D. for pregnant women. I am surprised that Sweden is so backward in this respect. Shame on Sweden.

    Time to start being smart about it & planning home births. If problems arise fight the government to pay for the helicopter/ambulance. Once the government has to pay $250,0000.00 per flight that _might_ wake them up.

    Shocking they report on this in sweeden but it's happening here in the uk. A lot of expectant mothers in the Highlands of Scotland have to go to inverness to receive any kind of maternity care which extends beyond the basic. This means if there is an emergency you have to travel in an ambulence for two hours! Lord knows what happens in a emergency which doesn't have that time.
    We're running a similar risk here in the uk.

    This is deplorable! They need yo rethink providing maternity care in the most rural areas. Women in larger communities can probably rely on midwives more then women in rural communities where travel time alone creates a much more dangerous situation. I think the government is assuming that new mothers have hours to get to a hospital- not necessarily true! Not to mention how nervous the new dad whose driving his wife in labour pains is distracting him, is not the safest driver on the road!

I am American and if you’ve gone to university and taken courses on what the world’s society is really about then you know that Sweden in fact is the best country to live in. Very modern in their ways of thinking and ahead of the rest of the world socially. Basically if you live in Sweden then you will probably have a good life and be taken care of if needed.

    Two hour drive is nothing. Try being a Fijian living on an island with no doctor, catches a boat the the main island a few months prior to due date, to give birth in a hospital. After the birth they often can’t return to their home for months until the baby has had their immunization. Easy for these Europeans to stay in the city with the hospital before her due date, if they really want to avoid a car birth, simple and they have the money to afford it. Yes, try to change the system, but it is manageable.

      You_Don't_ Know_Me
      It shouldn't be about birth rates. It's about basic services at all hospitals. A hospital should not be allowed to remain open if they can not provide for the basic needs of the citizens in the community.
      Of course, there are cases like heart attack or stroke where you need access to tools and equipment that not all hospitals have or can afford but it should be expected that the staff at the hospital can diagnose, triage, and provide basic care for you until you can be safely transported.
      I work at a Level 2 trauma center/hospital. If someone comes in and is a higher level of care (e.g. Level 1 trauma), we still stabilize that person while we work on setting up the appropriate type of transportation (ambulance vs Life Flight). We don't say "sorry you're too sick and injured and we can't deal with you" and send them on their way.
      Closing down maternity wards is essentially doing this. You are denying access to care and refusing to provide basic care to all patients who arrive at your facility. It doesn't take much to have qualified and trained staff available at all times. Chances are there are still staff there that are trained and can do this job, it's simply a cost-cutting mechanism that harms the community.

    OMG what is up with BBC, i dont even know why the maternity wards are closing down, all i know is they are and people are protesting, come on BBC. why is the government closing them down there has got to be a reason, is it financing or is it that due to the low birthrate it's not economical for them to put and entire maternity ward in a place where they may only have a handful of pregnancy for the years. you guys have to do better than this, even if you did include it and i missed it somehow its still your fault cause that means you did not highlight the main pionts. this is why new media will take over cases if you gave me a camera i would have been able to get the real information and not just a few people and their experiences

    In the car, kneel on the Back Seat. Don't sit in the front seat; there's no way to 'open up' in that position. Stay home & give birth on your knees against the wall, having covered the floor. Wait until the umbilical cord stops pulsating before cutting it.

    You're showing this as a fatality, this happens a lot in my country, since there is not enough doctors, and the midwifes seem to forget how to deliver women 😏😏, they don't want to take any risk because of the enormous amount of law suits they are dragged into... so, they convey women ballading when in labor...

    • @shammydammy2610

      It says the city/town/township/village/county...wherever the child is born. The same as children born at home, there is no requirement to have a hospital name on it.

    • @irinabalduzzi3509
      @irinabalduzzi3509 7 років тому +7

      Kimberly Yang do you think private healthcare means better health care? You are absolutely wrong. You are more likely to not receive care if healthcare is private. Private hospitals can deny you life saving surgeries or treatments just because your chances of not making it are low. They can deny you attention or charge you in deby for your ENTIRE life. This women reached the hospital and she wasnt charged a DIME. What if you are poor and cant afford going to a hospital to give birth? People like you make me sick. I work in hospitals, in PUBLIC, FREE, hospitals, and you cant imagine how good it does to society that healthcare is free. Unfortunately, im in a 3rd world country, and our resources are not enough. But im afraid of the day that our government could shut down public healthcare. Many many many people would have their lifes shattered.

      Anja Fourie these ppl learn english since 1st grade and has it as ome of the main subjects all the way through all the schoolyears. However, my comment came out ruder than i intended to and for that i apologize. I simply mean just whenever i hear someone from sweden speak english the accent (that every swede has) is just really annoying me, but that could be because i'm from sweden too, idk. Sorry
