Sounds interesting! I'd also enjoy seeing a followup to this particular documentary, finding the couple married in this show, and seeing what their thoughts are now on bride kidnapping -- it's been over a decade since this documentary first aired.
Wtf!!!!! This’s straight up lies!!! I’m from Saudi Arabia there’s 0% of SA in our schools bcuz IT’S NOT MIXED we only have all girls or all boys school
This’s shocking how u ppl would shamelessly accuse islam of the things that happens routinely in ur non muslim countries in my muslim country it’s a CRIM to even cat call women even asking for a woman’s number is considered illegal us muslim women feel the safest in our countries unlike the women in western and non muslim countries the statistics of sexual assault are over the roof yet u have the audacity to make these videos against islam i mean we know it’s a propaganda but unfortunately many ignorants believe it
actually inform yourself before assuming something idiotic. The horrid sexual assualt is forbiden and seen as a major sin to do with Islam because you are harming someone's well being. Disrespect to a religion because you cant tell the difference is real ignorant. I mean how can the historian be more informed about the reality than you?
it's even scarier when you realize that someone could actually be kidnapping a girl in plain sight with no intention of marrying her and people would just think that it's the tradition.
I'm from Kyrgyzstan. I am Kyrgyz. This is a very wild tradition that is disappearing because girls and women no longer want to tolerate it in our country! And I'm glad of that. They also tried to steal me, but I fought with everyone and still left. I am confident that this cruel tradition will soon disappear.
The girl being kidnapped and then 3 men holding her, her yelling mom. My heart broke, I felt so helpless like how she was feeling at that moment. Almost cried.

No. They kiddnapp only women they know. Not strangers. Cmon a little bit of common sens. A tradition is something that belong to them and they societies. i actually ended up showing middle finger at phone screen when she cried... she totally listened to society when she should've stood by her side specially when the child said that the man was not a good person. but she chose to go with the society. i so much would've wanted to punch her face if she was doing that drama near me.
She got kidnapped, then they found her, AND THEN SHE GAVE HER BACK WILLINGLY. to be raped and held hostage. Then you know he just kidnapped another bride.. Disgusting. Maybe she should have thought twice as a mother doing that to her baby girl.... That poor fucking girl. I feel bad for HER, not the mother that fucking GAVE HER TO HIM.
@@Supermaninpyjama What do you expect to happen when, as was stated in the video, a society works so hard to make girls obedient from the moment they can probably communicate. Peer pressure, cultural pressure, are things that have effected all people at some point to some degree, unfortunatelythe ramifications can be severe and devastating. How hypocritical and ignorant of you to imbue yourself with so much superiority when you'd stoop so low as to kick someone while they're down. She's going to feel guilty for the rest of her life, no keyboard-coward has the right to pretend to be more upset about something she actually *has* to survive.
The Little Blerdmaid I bet you she wasn’t crying when they took her, a mother should always be protecting her kids at all costs no matter what culture or religion bs you deal with. She let them take her away knowing she didn’t want to, she failed as a parent in my opinion.
You’re wrong. In my country they also used to kidnap brides but nowadays they do it less because they pay a fine for that now, which most of them can not afford, although some pay it willingly. Anyways, you’re wrong about what you said about her mother, she probably didn’t think it was necessary or good for her daughter when they gave her back to the kidnapper. She says in the video, the cousins etc put pressure on them, telling the « it’s tradition ! You’re wrong you shouldn’t take her back ! ». She didn’t develop it but as it was also in my country’s tradition to kidnap brides I can tell you for sure that she didn’t want to give her daughter back but couldn’t do otherwise because she’s a woman and she has to OBEY. So when the male cousins / older men in the family got angry about them bringing their daughter back, when they scolded the girl’s dad for doing so, when they brought up « it’s tradition! » the girl’s dad probably felt ashamed in front of the elder men (cousins, uncles..) and in those societies you HAVE TO respect older men and DO what they tell you to do, the dad probably decided to give the girl back to the kidnaper and the mom couldn’t do anything about it but accept it because SHE IS A WOMAN and she CAN NOT argue with her husband and other men in the family. If she talks back or disobeys she can be beaten or anyways, the men can just bring the girl back to the kidnaper’s house forcefully even if the mother is against. Anyways, I can guarantee you that this mom wasn’t happy about giving her daughter back autherwise they wouldn’t have even brought her home in first place. She just had to accept it because she’s a woman and she can not do anything because men decide and she has to obey. No one can understand her sorrow except those who went through the same thing. That thing happened to my aunt, she was kidnapped and run away but her uncle forced her to get married to her kidnapper whom she didn’t even knew.
no one's gonna talk about her "friend"? she knew her friend's dream to finish school and become a lawyer yet she lured her into that marriage. And please, the way the grooms men was touching the bride to keep her from moving.
Malacki655 2.0 literally!!! A certain belief or an action having a lot of followers or believers doesn’t make it moral or ethical. The what are you gonna do it’s their tradition comments are cancerous
But when society normalizes the act, be it cruel or not, then it does become a "tradition" and culture. Same way crazy cults are formed that torture humans.
Kyrgyzstan has changed a lot in 2015 after a big scandal. The police stopped ignoring these crimes and imprisoning people. Both on TV and at school they began to tell people that this was a bad custom and to make films about it.
@@wisteriafleur3522 I think he is talking about that case when girl got killed in the process. I also recommend y'all to take VICE info with a grain of salt since they like to make scandalous things from each country and present it like it is very common thing when it's not. For 48,500 marriages in 2022 there were 500 kidnappings that year. That thing being illegal cannot be en masse.
'Your a girl, all girls get married.' imagine being kidnapped by a bunch of men, all your family watching and laughing, being held down in a car, and being told that. Jesus.
My mother was also a victim of this kidnapping, she still tells us how she was mistreated and how my biological father beat her when he was in a bad mood, but thank goodness now we live separately
:( I'm so sorry to hear that. ... Your mother might be a strong woman. Most of the victims can't do this. They just give up. Like the girl from the video.
@@artemkh8944 This tradition existed for example in Georgia too. It still does, but mostly in villages and not often anymore, fortunately. Very rarely. Georgians have developed.
Unless somebody here is from that culture, nobody can really talk about it. You can't speak about things unless you are versed in them. Otherwise you don't know what the hell you are talking about. I can only speak about it from an American perspective, and an American perspective on a Kyrgyzstan tradition is irrelevant
I imagine the “kidnapping” where the presenter was witness to was consensual (in the video, the men are seen to instruct the woman how the kidnapping will unfold and that she can beat them if she likes) but she is putting up some resistance to keep the appearances I guess (so that it does not seem to be preplanned to the rest of the community). I cannot imagine the camera crew being willful participants in an actual kidnapping of a stranger as it happens in other cases, just for filming purposes.

@Number wa an A tradition that no woman wants to follow, as seen in some of these cases, if they don't believe in these traditions than why would she follow it? Is thet hard to understand? or are you stupid
The worst thing is the fact that those old grandmas besides her are taking it as a some sort of joke even though they've felt the same feeling of being kidnapped without you knowing anything about it before.
I don't think they were married the same way since, as it was mentioned in the video, due to communism such traditional/religious practises were forbidden. Although, I think they actually knew that girl wanted to marry him in the end (since they were already a couple) and she was just pretending to not want to get kidnapped in order to not let others believe that she was desperate to get married by complying from the start (again I'm not entirely sure that is 100% sure about this but, in the end, I think the girl was smiling and accepting the whole thing...)
The fact that nobody in this video really cared about her and just laughed at her for being kidnapped and taken away everyone laughed at her in the whole entire video which is very sad.
“All girls must get married” “Calm down, you’ll be happy” Words cannot describe how thankful I am to not have to go through this. I feel so so bad for her.😭
Right? I have no idea what I'd do if I was in that situation. But at least that girl did want to marry that man, even if it wasn't right there and then. I feel worse for the others who are kidnapped by men they don't want and forcefully married and raped.
Kixi They have no choice but to agree. They are shunned by their entire community if the disgusting ritual is completed and they refuse to play happy families. It was one because she eventually gave up and found no point in fighting back, or two the nice treats and gestures by the new family around her manipulated her in a way to try and feel happy, almost like a tactic they use when the girl is brought into the place after the kidnapping, Truly disgusting
She gave up cuz she knew she had no choice but to agree to it. It's sort of like how people get recruited into cults. They tire you so much to the point where your brain gets all jumbled up so you can't think clearly resulting in you agreeing to join them.
if she comes back to her family she will be shunned by her family and by society. after the kidnapped spend a night at the captor's house, most bride's families refuse to take her back because she's been "tainted" (even if she's still a virgin) and that theres "no point" in taking her back because shes been "taken". she knows that escape is futile and she doesnt want to dissapoint her family. she's given up. women in kyrgyzstan are raised to be complient, obedient, always helping around the house, selfless, etc. women aren't raised to stand up for themselves or to feel they have the power to leave.

Nope. Everyone can have their own beliefs but no one can force their own beliefs on others in actions that affect them like this. Nations don’t matter. Otherwise, if the man’s tradition is kidnapping the bride, then the bride can say that her tradition is killing the man who kidnapped her.
@Yunus Hailey You can continue your tradition in a way that affects only yourself and those who wants to be affected. Just because you care about your national identity doesn't mean others in your country do, and they have a right not to subscribe to the identity and abandon the culture. I know I don't care about my country and its culture, and other people in other countries can also choose to feel the same way if they want. No one should be identified by their country anyways, unless they as an individual wants to.
@Yunus Hailey Your tradition is cruel and evil. Every tradition is just an idea that began in the past. Once we used to put black cats in a wooden box, and smash the box and the cat because of superstition. That nonsense was repeated for hundreds of years, and it even lives on today, but the wooden box is now painted and the content is candy. Still utterly stupid. Just because an idea is old, it doesn't make it good. On the contrary, it's stupid not to take old ideas up to revision. That is how a society and a people improve themselves. That is the very reason every country - including yours - has extinct traditions in the first place. Otherwise, we would still perform some stupid nonsense going back to the stone-age, simply because "Well it's tradition".

A lot of women choose to quit their jobs and stay at home to raise their kids,in which case they are trusting their husbands to take care of them financially. Now if the man decided he wanted to divorce his wife, but the wife had not been to work in years cause she was busy taking care of him and his wife, she would not have the financial stability to live a normal life. The first instinct to call for mum is always devastating and heart wrenching to hear. Especially knowing the mum can’t do anything to help out, when there own family members brainwash them into this “tradition”.
See one way to get this tradition stop is to twist into something similar. Where instead of kidnapping, the wife gets picked up in a nice vehicle and she voluntarily gets in. Making the Guy look like the biggest badass in the village and making it go viral. Essentially, the man courts the woman so much so to the point she that does want to get married to him. So they both plan it out. Then the guy simply arrives to, "steal the bride", but everybody will be in awe as the guy sings a song or something and she voluntarily gets in happily with no assistance. The whole town will be like no F*cking way and all the guys will want to do the same as a sort of subliminal dick measuring contest. The problem is that she needs to go into hiding until the time they planned out to stop the chance of having some guy actually kidnap her.
Imagine this, all the these women were kidnapped, they got older with time... and these same older women joining the tradition and still continue doing it to young girls. They know the pain, but they still do it, even tho it happen to them too. And those young girls you saw kidnapped in the video, will eventually get old... and they will do it for their son too. Amazing!!!
I live in this country. older women think that it is necessary that this is a tradition. They do not even think it could be otherwise. The young generation of girls now does not want to be abducted. People who live in the capital are very modern especially the younger generation. in 2013 a law was passed on the illegality of the abduction. Nowadays, there are less and less abductions. But there are still people who think that this is a tradition. The girl and the boy are introduced to the parents before the wedding. If they like each other they marry. We will not be able to become such an open and tolerant country as the United States and European countries. But progress is the younger generation wants to change.
@@Comebackherein2050 I think a solution might the leaving of the younger generations to capital cities at a young age for example for school or work, so they can't abduct the girls. (I'm sure that bride kidnapping is a real and serious issue in Kyrgyzstan; but a great many of them are actually staged by the agreement of the young men and women because the brides' families do not approve of their daughters' choices in fiances. In other words, many of these "kidnappings" are ritualized elopements, and there's no particular incentive on the part of the brides to admit this to anyone -- including foreign film crews. ....The only solution is for civil society groups in Kyrgyzstan to more aggressively promote the idea of grown women being able to OPENLY choose their own husbands and more generally to pursue romantic relationships without being slut-shamed.)

I am a KYRGYZ GIRL, I am 19. Yes, unfortunately we have such a tradition and it is a pity that it is considered normal. The fact is that people with a traditional mindset simply CAN'T understand that this is wrong. Also, many girls from traditional families remain in the family of the "husband", because after you have been stolen, you are given into the hands of various aunts to prepare you and if you are going to leave, then the oldest grandmother will lie in front of you and many girls will simply cannot step over her because of their upbringing. And then it is already difficult for them to leave because it will be considered a shame, no matter how ABSURD it may sound. fortunately, sometimes the girls' parents manage to pick them up. But modern advanced Kyrgyz youth are constantly fighting this phenomenon and we hope that soon this tradition WILL NO LONGER BE. Fun fact: there was one case when a girl managed to escape, but before leaving, she cut off the genitals of her "husband". P.S. I wrote almost the same comment under other video about kidnapping, because I wanted to say people that's yes, it's horrible tradition, normal people in my country hate it, but nothing is lost and I hope that soon my people will forget about the existence of this tradition. it's even scarier when you realize that someone could actually be kidnapping a girl in plain sight with no intention of marrying her and people would just think that it's the tradition.
thats what I WAS THINKING like omg how do you differentiate between a wedding tradition and a possible gangrape???
I mean I would also consider this actually kidnapping a girl but true
Probably kidnapping with no intention of marrying is against the law

Its not that she had ‘accepted’ her fate when she gave in and ate whatever the mothers had offered. She was exhausted
@Yunus Hailey shut tf up it’s disgusting
@Yunus Hailey I don't think that's how you got your whole population from Asian looking people into European

If they have finished school and got married with their consent, they can consider going back to their village.
